Evidence from the text
The verb states crushing by weight: an army on the march tramples the ants without sensing it (27:18). The noun states its result, at the end of the plant cycle: the crop withers, yellows, then God "turns them to debris" (39:21); the image holds for the whole present life (57:20) and for the harvest God could break (56:67).
The intensive form names the punishment by what it does: the Crusher, which the following question sets as unknown (104:5) before the text gives its definition.
