سرادق
Attested forms : سُرَادِقُهَا 1
Core meaning
The enclosure that surrounds on every side, like the wall of a tent pitched around a space.
Uses
سُرَادِق → "the enclosure" : the wall of the fire, which shuts in those it encompasses.
- «نَارًا أَحَاطَ بِهِمْ سُرَادِقُهَا» — "a fire whose enclosure encompasses them" (18:29)
Evidence from the text
The word has a single use. The enclosure belongs to the fire, and the verb that carries it, أَحَاطَ, says that it surrounds: no way out. The rest of the verse confirms it: those who call to be rescued receive a water "like molten metal, which scalds the faces" (18:29).
