سند

Sealed snd 1 occurrences

1 occurrences · 1 suras · first occurrence 63:4

Attested forms : مُّسَنَّدَةٌۭ 1

Core meaning

To be propped against a support: to stand by something other than oneself.

Uses

  1. مُسَنَّدَة → "propped-up" : pieces of wood that hold only by what supports them.

    • «كَأَنَّهُمْ خُشُبٌۭ مُّسَنَّدَةٌۭ» — "they are like propped-up pieces of wood" (63:4)

Evidence from the text

The single use describes the hypocrites: their bearing dazzles, their speech is listened to, but "they are like propped-up pieces of wood" (63:4). The passive participle says a borrowed stance: remove the prop, and nothing stands. The verse at once adds that they think every cry is against them: outward assurance hides inward fear.

Distinctions

  • قوم — to stand by oneself, whereas سند is standing by a prop
