شحم

Core meaning

Uses

1. شُحُوم → "fats" : the fat of cattle and sheep, prohibited to the Reoriented, with a few exceptions.

   • «حَرَّمْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ شُحُومَهُمَآ» — "We prohibited to them their fats" (6:146)

Evidence from the text

The only use (6:146) itself delimits the word: the prohibition bears on the fats, "except what their backs carry, or the entrails, or what is mixed with a bone". The list of exceptions places the fat within the animal's body: it is fatty tissue, taken in the concrete sense.
