شوظ
Attested forms : شُوَاظٌۭ 1
Core meaning
The sheaf of fire: a fire that bursts out and is thrown toward its target.
Uses
شُوَاظ → "sheaf of fire" : the fire sent upon the two kinds of beings.
- «يُرْسَلُ عَلَيْكُمَا شُوَاظٌۭ مِّن نَّارٍۢ وَنُحَاسٌۭ» — "Upon you both will be sent a sheaf of fire and molten copper" (55:35)
Evidence from the text
The single use is a threat addressed to the two, humans and the Occulted (55:33-35): the fire that bursts out is sent upon them with the copper, "and you will not be able to help each other" (55:35). The word says fire thrown, turned toward a target, not fire burning in place.
Distinctions
- لهب — the flame: fire that burns and rises, whereas شُوَاظ is thrown
