صوف

Sealed swf 1 occurrences

1 occurrences · 1 suras · first occurrence 16:80

Attested forms : أَصْوَافِهَا 1

Core meaning

Wool: the fibre given by the beasts of the flock, from which furnishings and use are drawn.

Uses

  1. أَصْوَاف → "wool" : the first of the three materials drawn from the beasts, before fur and hair.

    • «وَمِنْ أَصْوَافِهَا وَأَوْبَارِهَا وَأَشْعَارِهَآ أَثَٰثًۭا وَمَتَٰعًا إِلَىٰ حِينٍۢ» — "and, from their wool, their fur, and their hair, furnishings and use for a time" (16:80)

Evidence from the text

The single occurrence is a list of favours. Wool heads a triad, with fur and hair: three materials named separately, drawn from the same beasts, and all meant for furnishings and use "for a time". The next verse continues the list of shelters and garments that God gives (16:81).

Distinctions

  • وبر — fur: the finer fibre, named beside wool
  • شعر — hair: the coarser fibre
