ضمم

Sealed dmm 2 occurrences

2 occurrences · 2 suras · first occurrence 20:22

Attested forms : ٱضْمُمْ 2

Core meaning

To press to oneself: to bring a limb back against the body.

Uses

  1. ٱضْمُمْ → "press" : the command addressed to Moussa, for the hand or for the wing.

    • «وَٱضْمُمْ يَدَكَ إِلَىٰ جَنَاحِكَ» — "And press your hand to your wing" (20:22)
    • «وَٱضْمُمْ إِلَيْكَ جَنَاحَكَ مِنَ ٱلرَّهْبِ» — "and press your wing to yourself, against reverence" (28:32)

Evidence from the text

Both uses carry the same imperative, addressed to Moussa. In 20:22, the hand pressed to the wing comes out white, without harm: it is a sign. In 28:32, the wing pressed to oneself holds against reverence: the same gesture gathers the one whom awe seizes. The gesture stays the same; what it produces depends on the scene.
