فند
Attested forms : تُفَنِّدُونِ 1
Core meaning
To charge with dotage: to judge that age has led someone's judgment astray.
Uses
تُفَنِّدُونِ → "to think one a dotard" : the reproach addressed to an old man who asserts what others do not see.
- «لَوْلَآ أَن تُفَنِّدُونِ» — "if you do not think me a dotard" (12:94)
Evidence from the text
The only use is the father's word, as the caravan moves away: "I surely sense the scent of Youssof, if you do not think me a dotard" (12:94). He forestalls the reproach; it comes at once (12:95). The tunic laid on his face gives him back his sight (12:96), and the judgment passed on him falls.
