لقب
Attested forms : بِٱلْأَلْقَٰبِ 1
Core meaning
The nickname applied to someone to belittle him.
Uses
ٱلْأَلْقَٰب → "nicknames" : names given to wound, exchanged in addressing one another.
- «وَلَا تَنَابَزُوا۟ بِٱلْأَلْقَٰبِ» — "and do not call each other by nicknames" (49:11)
Evidence from the text
The only use follows the prohibition of disparaging by insinuation: "And do not disparage yourselves by insinuation, and do not call each other by nicknames" (49:11). The verb تَنَابَزُوا۟ says the mutual exchange; لقب says what is exchanged: a name that belittles.
