ميز
Attested forms :
Core meaning
To separate into distinct parts: to sort the vile from the good, to stand apart, to split.
Uses
يَمِيزَ, لِيَمِيزَ → "to distinguish" : God separates the vile from the good.
وَٱمْتَٰزُوا۟ → "to stand apart" : the order given to the severed to separate from the others.
And stand apart today, O severed!" (36:59)
تَمَيَّزُ → "to split" : to separate into parts under the thrust of rage.
Evidence from the text
The same formula occurs twice: distinguishing the vile from the good (3:179, 8:37). God does not forsake the believers in the state they are in; the sorting separates what was together, and in 8:37 the vile is then gathered, "part upon part". In 36:59, separation becomes an order addressed to the severed: "And stand apart today".
In 67:8, Form V says the separation that happens of itself: the Fire boils, almost splitting with fury, like a mass that breaks into parts under the thrust.
