ودق

Sealed wdq 2 occurrences

2 occurrences · 2 suras · first occurrence 24:43

Attested forms : ٱلْوَدْقَ 2

Core meaning

The rain that comes out of the cloud, at the end of its forming.

Uses

  1. ٱلْوَدْق → "the shower" : the water seen coming out of the gathered cloud.

    • «فَتَرَى ٱلْوَدْقَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ خِلَٰلِهِۦ» — "then you see the shower come forth from their midst" (30:48)
    • «فَتَرَى ٱلْوَدْقَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ خِلَٰلِهِۦ» — "and you see the shower come out from within it" (24:43)

Evidence from the text

Both occurrences describe the same sequence: God makes the clouds glide, joins them, makes them into a mass (24:43), or spreads them in the sky and breaks them into fragments (30:48); then "you see the shower come forth from their midst". الوَدْق is the water born of this work of the cloud, seen as it comes out.

Distinctions

  • مطر — rain in general; ودق, the water seen coming out of the cloud
