Core meaning
To get out of trouble: the escape, which the text names only to deny it.
Uses
مَحِيص → "escape" : the way by which one would get out of trouble; always denied or questioned.
Evidence from the text
The word appears only denied or questioned. Those whom the Diverter has deluded will find "no escape from it" (4:121); the weak and the arrogant acknowledge it together, "whether we panic or are patient" (14:21); those whose invoked ones have strayed and those who argue about the signs know it too (41:48, 42:35). After the generations destroyed, the question falls alone: "Was there any escape?" (50:36).
Distinctions
- فرر — to flee: flight itself, whereas the escape is the way out that would allow one to get away
