Forme attestate : تَبِيدَ 1
Core meaning
To fade away: to cease to be, to the point of vanishing.
Uses
تَبِيدَ → "to fade away" : the end of a good its owner believed lasting.
- «مَآ أَظُنُّ أَن تَبِيدَ هَٰذِهِۦٓ أَبَدًۭا» — "I do not presume this will ever fade away" (18:35)
Evidence from the text
The word appears only once, in the mouth of the owner of the two gardens, sure of his wealth: he does not think his garden will fade away, nor that the Hour will rise (18:35). The account answers soon after: his wealth is surrounded, and he turns his palms over in every direction over what he had spent on it (18:42). What he believed lasting has ceased to be.
Distinctions
