Al-Muzzammil
The Night and the Heavy Word
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. O you who are wrapped up! Stand the night, except a little — half of it, or subtract from it a little, or add to it — and recite the Recitation with measured, distinct recitation.
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُزَّمِّلُ قُمِ ٱلَّيْلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًۭا نِّصْفَهُۥٓ أَوِ ٱنقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ تَرْتِيلًاIndeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word.
إِنَّا سَنُلْقِى عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًۭا ثَقِيلًاIndeed, the rising of the night is firmer in impact and more upright in speech.
إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ ٱلَّيْلِ هِىَ أَشَدُّ وَطْـًۭٔا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًاIndeed, you have during the day a long sailing [to and fro].
إِنَّ لَكَ فِى ٱلنَّهَارِ سَبْحًۭا طَوِيلًۭاAnd remember the name of your Guardian and devote yourself to Him with complete devotion.
وَٱذْكُرِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًۭاGuardian of the East and the West;
رَّبُّ ٱلْمَشْرِقِ وَٱلْمَغْرِبِthere is no deity except Him;
لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَso take Him as a trustee.
فَٱتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًۭاAnd be patient over what they say
وَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَand avoid them with gracious avoidance.
وَٱهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْرًۭا جَمِيلًۭاAnd leave Me with the deniers, those of ease, and allow them respite a little.
وَذَرْنِى وَٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ أُو۟لِى ٱلنَّعْمَةِ وَمَهِّلْهُمْ قَلِيلًاIndeed, with Us are shackles and a Blaze, and food that chokes, and a painful punishment — on the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse, and the mountains will become a heap of poured-out sand.
إِنَّ لَدَيْنَآ أَنكَالًۭا وَجَحِيمًۭا وَطَعَامًۭا ذَا غُصَّةٍۢ وَعَذَابًا أَلِيمًۭا يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَثِيبًۭا مَّهِيلًاIndeed, We have sent to you a messenger as a witness upon you, just as We sent to Fir'awn a messenger. But Fir'awn disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure.
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولًۭا شَٰهِدًا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ رَسُولًۭا فَعَصَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ ٱلرَّسُولَ فَأَخَذْنَٰهُ أَخْذًۭا وَبِيلًۭاThen how, if you disown, will you guard yourselves on a Day that will turn children gray-haired, a Day the heaven will break apart therefrom?
فَكَيْفَ تَتَّقُونَ إِن كَفَرْتُمْ يَوْمًۭا يَجْعَلُ ٱلْوِلْدَٰنَ شِيبًا ٱلسَّمَآءُ مُنفَطِرٌۢ بِهِۦHis promise is ever bound to be fulfilled.
كَانَ وَعْدُهُۥ مَفْعُولًاIndeed, this is a reminder.
إِنَّ هَٰذِهِۦ تَذْكِرَةٌۭSo whoever wills may take, toward his Guardian, a way.
فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِيلًا- 73:20ورش
Indeed, your Guardian knows that you stand a little less than two-thirds of the night, and of half of it, and of a third of it, as do a group of those with you.
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدْنَىٰ مِن ثُلُثَىِ ٱلَّيْلِ وَنِصْفَهُۥ وَثُلُثَهُۥ وَطَآئِفَةٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مَعَكَ And God determines the night and the day.
وَٱللَّهُ يُقَدِّرُ ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ- 73:20الدوريالسوسي
He knows that you will never count it, so He has turned toward you with clemency.
عَلِمَ أَن لَّن تُحْصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ So recite what is feasible of the Recitation.
فَٱقْرَءُوا۟ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ ٱلْقُرْءَانِHe knows that there will be among you sick, and others traveling throughout the land seeking of the favor of God, and others fighting in the cause of God.
عَلِمَ أَن سَيَكُونُ مِنكُم مَّرْضَىٰ وَءَاخَرُونَ يَضْرِبُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ يَبْتَغُونَ مِن فَضْلِ ٱللَّهِ وَءَاخَرُونَ يُقَٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِSo recite what is feasible from it,
فَٱقْرَءُوا۟ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُand maintain the Contact and give the purifying alms,
وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَand lend to God a goodly loan.
وَأَقْرِضُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًۭاAnd whatever good you put forth for yourselves, you will find it with God, better and greater in reward.
وَمَا تُقَدِّمُوا۟ لِأَنفُسِكُم مِّنْ خَيْرٍۢ تَجِدُوهُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ هُوَ خَيْرًۭا وَأَعْظَمَ أَجْرًۭاAnd seek forgiveness of God;
وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَindeed, God is Most-Forgiving, Benevolent.
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۢ
