Four Women as Examples
- 66:1ورشقالون
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. O Prophet! Why do you forbid what God has made lawful for you, seeking the approval of your wives?
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ لِمَ تُحَرِّمُ مَآ أَحَلَّ ٱللَّهُ لَكَ تَبْتَغِى مَرْضَاتَ أَزْوَٰجِكَ And God is Most-Forgiving, Benevolent.
وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭGod has prescribed for you the release from your oaths,
قَدْ فَرَضَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ تَحِلَّةَ أَيْمَٰنِكُمْand God is your nearest Guarantor.
وَٱللَّهُ مَوْلَىٰكُمْAnd He is the All-Knowing, the Wise.
وَهُوَ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ- 66:3ورشقالون
And when the Prophet confided a matter in secret to one of his wives,
وَإِذْ أَسَرَّ ٱلنَّبِىُّ إِلَىٰ بَعْضِ أَزْوَٰجِهِۦ حَدِيثًۭا and she disclosed it, and God made it known to him, he made known part of it and passed over another part.
فَلَمَّا نَبَّأَتْ بِهِۦ وَأَظْهَرَهُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ عَرَّفَ بَعْضَهُۥ وَأَعْرَضَ عَنۢ بَعْضٍۢThen, when he told her of it, she said: 'Who informed you of this?' He said: 'The All-Knowing, the Informed informed me.'
فَلَمَّا نَبَّأَهَا بِهِۦ قَالَتْ مَنْ أَنۢبَأَكَ هَٰذَا قَالَ نَبَّأَنِىَ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ٱلْخَبِيرُIf you two turn to God in repentance — for your cores have indeed swerved —
إِن تَتُوبَآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ فَقَدْ صَغَتْ قُلُوبُكُمَاbut if you support one another against him, then God is his nearest Guarantor, and Gabriel, and the righteous among the believers,
وَإِن تَظَٰهَرَا عَلَيْهِ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ مَوْلَىٰهُ وَجِبْرِيلُ وَصَٰلِحُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَand the Agents, moreover, are his support.
وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ ظَهِيرٌIt may be that his Guardian, if he divorces you, will give him in exchange wives better than you: true to God alone, believing, devoted, repentant, obedient, free in their movement, previously married or virgins.
عَسَىٰ رَبُّهُۥٓ إِن طَلَّقَكُنَّ أَن يُبْدِلَهُۥٓ أَزْوَٰجًا خَيْرًۭا مِّنكُنَّ مُسْلِمَٰتٍۢ مُّؤْمِنَٰتٍۢ قَٰنِتَٰتٍۢ تَٰٓئِبَٰتٍ عَٰبِدَٰتٍۢ سَٰٓئِحَٰتٍۢ ثَيِّبَٰتٍۢ وَأَبْكَارًۭاO you who have believed! Guard your Selves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are Agents, harsh and severe, who do not disobey God in what He commands them, and who do what they are commanded.
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ قُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًۭا وَقُودُهَا ٱلنَّاسُ وَٱلْحِجَارَةُ عَلَيْهَا مَلَٰٓئِكَةٌ غِلَاظٌۭ شِدَادٌۭ لَّا يَعْصُونَ ٱللَّهَ مَآ أَمَرَهُمْ وَيَفْعَلُونَ مَا يُؤْمَرُونَO you who disowned! Do not make excuses today: you are only being recompensed for what you used to do.
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَا تَعْتَذِرُوا۟ ٱلْيَوْمَ إِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ- 66:8ورشقالون
O you who have believed! Turn to God in sincere repentance. It may be that your Guardian will cover your misdeeds and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow, on the day when God will not disgrace the Prophet nor those who believed with him; their light will run before them and on their right.
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ تُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوْبَةًۭ نَّصُوحًا عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمْ أَن يُكَفِّرَ عَنكُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْ وَيُدْخِلَكُمْ جَنَّٰتٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ يَوْمَ لَا يُخْزِى ٱللَّهُ ٱلنَّبِىَّ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ نُورُهُمْ يَسْعَىٰ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَبِأَيْمَٰنِهِمْ They will say: 'Our Guardian, complete our light for us and forgive us.'
يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ أَتْمِمْ لَنَا نُورَنَا وَٱغْفِرْ لَنَآYou are capable of all things.
إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدِيرٌۭ- 66:9ورشقالون
O Prophet! Strive against those who disown and the hypocrites, and be firm with them.
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ جَٰهِدِ ٱلْكُفَّارَ وَٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ وَٱغْلُظْ عَلَيْهِمْ Their refuge is Jahannam,
وَمَأْوَىٰهُمْ جَهَنَّمُand what an evil destination!
وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَصِيرُGod multiplies examples for those who disowned: the wife of Nuh and the wife of Lut.
ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًۭا لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱمْرَأَتَ نُوحٍۢ وَٱمْرَأَتَ لُوطٍۢthey were under two of Our righteous obedient ones, yet they betrayed them, so those two were of no avail to them against God,
كَانَتَا تَحْتَ عَبْدَيْنِ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا صَٰلِحَيْنِ فَخَانَتَاهُمَا فَلَمْ يُغْنِيَا عَنْهُمَا مِنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيْـًۭٔاand it was said: 'Enter, both of you, the Fire with those who enter.'
وَقِيلَ ٱدْخُلَا ٱلنَّارَ مَعَ ٱلدَّٰخِلِينَAnd God multiplies examples for those who believe: the wife of Fir'awn, when she said: 'My Guardian, build for me, near You, a home in the Garden, and save me from Fir'awn and his doing, and save me from the wrongdoing people.'
وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًۭا لِّلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱمْرَأَتَ فِرْعَوْنَ إِذْ قَالَتْ رَبِّ ٱبْنِ لِى عِندَكَ بَيْتًۭا فِى ٱلْجَنَّةِ وَنَجِّنِى مِن فِرْعَوْنَ وَعَمَلِهِۦ وَنَجِّنِى مِنَ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ- 66:12ورششعبةقالونالبزيقنبل
And Maryam, daughter of Imran, who protected her intimacy; We breathed into it of Our Influx. She declared true the words of her Guardian and His scriptures, and was among the devoted.
وَمَرْيَمَ ٱبْنَتَ عِمْرَٰنَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا فَنَفَخْنَا فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِنَا وَصَدَّقَتْ بِكَلِمَٰتِ رَبِّهَا وَكُتُبِهِۦ وَكَانَتْ مِنَ ٱلْقَٰنِتِينَ
