Ar-Rahman

The All-Benevolent taught the Recitation.

ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ عَلَّمَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ

He created the human being, He taught him clear expression.

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ عَلَّمَهُ ٱلْبَيَانَ

The sun and the moon, by a precise reckoning.

ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ بِحُسْبَانٍۢ

And the stemless plant and the tree bow down.

وَٱلنَّجْمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ يَسْجُدَانِ

And the sky, He elevated it, and He set up the balance — so that you would not be immoderate in the balance: maintain the weighing with equity and do not cause loss to the balance.

وَٱلسَّمَآءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلْمِيزَانَ أَلَّا تَطْغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْمِيزَانِ وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلْوَزْنَ بِٱلْقِسْطِ وَلَا تُخْسِرُوا۟ ٱلْمِيزَانَ

And the earth, He set it down for the creatures; therein are savoury fruits, the palm with its enclosed spathes, the grain with its husk, and the fragrant plant.

وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلْأَنَامِ فِيهَا فَٰكِهَةٌۭ وَٱلنَّخْلُ ذَاتُ ٱلْأَكْمَامِ وَٱلْحَبُّ ذُو ٱلْعَصْفِ وَٱلرَّيْحَانُ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

He created the human being from resonant clay like pottery, and He created the Occulted from a pure flame of fire.

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍۢ كَٱلْفَخَّارِ وَخَلَقَ ٱلْجَآنَّ مِن مَّارِجٍۢ مِّن نَّارٍۢ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Guardian of the two risings and Guardian of the two settings.

رَبُّ ٱلْمَشْرِقَيْنِ وَرَبُّ ٱلْمَغْرِبَيْنِ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

He made the two seas flow together, meeting; between them a barrier; they do not encroach on each other.

مَرَجَ ٱلْبَحْرَيْنِ يَلْتَقِيَانِ بَيْنَهُمَا بَرْزَخٌۭ لَّا يَبْغِيَانِ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

From them both are brought forth the pearl and the coral.

يَخْرُجُ مِنْهُمَا ٱللُّؤْلُؤُ وَٱلْمَرْجَانُ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

And to Him belong the vessels built up at sea, like raised landmarks.

وَلَهُ ٱلْجَوَارِ ٱلْمُنشَـَٔاتُ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ كَٱلْأَعْلَٰمِ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Everything upon it is transient, and only the direction of your Guardian remains, holder of majesty and nobility.

كُلُّ مَنْ عَلَيْهَا فَانٍۢ وَيَبْقَىٰ وَجْهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلْجَلَٰلِ وَٱلْإِكْرَامِ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Those in the heavens and on the earth ask of Him; every day He is engaged in some matter.

يَسْـَٔلُهُۥ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ هُوَ فِى شَأْنٍۢ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

He shall attend to you, O you two burdened ones.

سَنَفْرُغُ لَكُمْ أَيُّهَ ٱلثَّقَلَانِ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

You will not bore through them except with an authority.

لَا تَنفُذُونَ إِلَّا بِسُلْطَٰنٍۢ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Upon you both will be sent a sheaf of fire and molten copper, and you will not be able to help each other.

يُرْسَلُ عَلَيْكُمَا شُوَاظٌۭ مِّن نَّارٍۢ وَنُحَاسٌۭ فَلَا تَنتَصِرَانِ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

And when the sky splits open and becomes rose-colored like tinted leather — which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny? — on that day, neither human nor Occulted will be asked about his offense.

فَإِذَا ٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ وَرْدَةًۭ كَٱلدِّهَانِ فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢ لَّا يُسْـَٔلُ عَن ذَنۢبِهِۦٓ إِنسٌۭ وَلَا جَآنٌّۭ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

The severed will be recognized by their marks, and they will be seized by their forelocks and their feet.

يُعْرَفُ ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ بِسِيمَٰهُمْ فَيُؤْخَذُ بِٱلنَّوَٰصِى وَٱلْأَقْدَامِ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

This is Jahannam, which the severed used to deny; they will circulate between it and boiling water at its peak.

هَٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِى يُكَذِّبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ يَطُوفُونَ بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ حَمِيمٍ ءَانٍۢ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

And for whoever feared standing before his Guardian, two gardens — which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny? — with abundant branches.

وَلِمَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ جَنَّتَانِ فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ذَوَاتَآ أَفْنَانٍۢ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

In them both, two springs flowing.

فِيهِمَا عَيْنَانِ تَجْرِيَانِ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

In them both, of every savoury fruit, a pair.

فِيهِمَا مِن كُلِّ فَٰكِهَةٍۢ زَوْجَانِ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Reclining upon couches lined with thick brocade, the picking of the two gardens within reach.

مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ فُرُشٍۭ بَطَآئِنُهَا مِنْ إِسْتَبْرَقٍۢ وَجَنَى ٱلْجَنَّتَيْنِ دَانٍۢ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Therein are beings of reserved gaze, untouched by any human or Occulted before them.

فِيهِنَّ قَٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرْفِ لَمْ يَطْمِثْهُنَّ إِنسٌۭ قَبْلَهُمْ وَلَا جَآنٌّۭ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

As though they were the ruby and the coral.

كَأَنَّهُنَّ ٱلْيَاقُوتُ وَٱلْمَرْجَانُ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Is the recompense of good conduct anything but good conduct?

هَلْ جَزَآءُ ٱلْإِحْسَٰنِ إِلَّا ٱلْإِحْسَٰنُ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

And besides these two, two other gardens — which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny? — deep green.

وَمِن دُونِهِمَا جَنَّتَانِ فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ مُدْهَآمَّتَانِ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

In them both, two gushing springs.

فِيهِمَا عَيْنَانِ نَضَّاخَتَانِ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

In them both, savoury fruits, palm trees, and pomegranates.

فِيهِمَا فَٰكِهَةٌۭ وَنَخْلٌۭ وَرُمَّانٌۭ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Companions of listening, kept within the tents.

حُورٌۭ مَّقْصُورَٰتٌۭ فِى ٱلْخِيَامِ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Untouched by any human or Occulted before them.

لَمْ يَطْمِثْهُنَّ إِنسٌۭ قَبْلَهُمْ وَلَا جَآنٌّۭ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Reclining upon green drapes and exceptional carpets, beautiful.

مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ رَفْرَفٍ خُضْرٍۢ وَعَبْقَرِىٍّ حِسَانٍۢ

Which then of your Guardian's blessings do you both deny?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Blessed is the name of your Guardian, holder of majesty and nobility.

تَبَٰرَكَ ٱسْمُ رَبِّكَ ذِى ٱلْجَلَٰلِ وَٱلْإِكْرَامِ
