Sourate Al-Ahzab (33) vowelled

In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. O Prophet, guard yourself before God,i 1

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ ٱتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ

ورش قالون

and do not obey those who deny nor the hypocrites. 1

وَلَا تُطِعِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ وَٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ

God is certainly All-Knowing, Wise. 1

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًۭا

And follow what is revealed to you from your Guardian. 2

وَٱتَّبِعْ مَا يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ

God is certainly aware of what you do.i 2

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرًۭا

الدوري السوسي

And rely upon God: 3

وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ

God suffices as an agent. 3

وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ وَكِيلًۭا

God has not assigned to any man two cores within his chest.i 4

مَّا جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لِرَجُلٍۢ مِّن قَلْبَيْنِ فِى جَوْفِهِۦ

Nor has He made your wives — those from whom you distance yourselves [through zihar] — your mothers, 4

وَمَا جَعَلَ أَزْوَٰجَكُمُ ٱلَّٰٓـِٔى تُظَٰهِرُونَ مِنْهُنَّ أُمَّهَٰتِكُمْ

ورش قالون البزي قنبل الدوري السوسي

nor has He made your adopted sons your [true] sons. 4

وَمَا جَعَلَ أَدْعِيَآءَكُمْ أَبْنَآءَكُمْ

That is only your saying, [uttered] by your mouths; 4

ذَٰلِكُمْ قَوْلُكُم بِأَفْوَٰهِكُمْ

and God speaks the truth, and it is He who guides to the way. 4

وَٱللَّهُ يَقُولُ ٱلْحَقَّ وَهُوَ يَهْدِى ٱلسَّبِيلَ

Call them by their fathers' names: that is more equitable with God. 5

ٱدْعُوهُمْ لِءَابَآئِهِمْ هُوَ أَقْسَطُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ

And if you do not know their fathers, then they are your brothers in the Law, and your allies. 5

فَإِن لَّمْ تَعْلَمُوٓا۟ ءَابَآءَهُمْ فَإِخْوَٰنُكُمْ فِى ٱلدِّينِ وَمَوَٰلِيكُمْ

And there is no fault upon you in what you may have gotten wrong, 5

وَلَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌۭ فِيمَآ أَخْطَأْتُم بِهِۦ

but rather in what your cores have premeditated. 5

وَلَٰكِن مَّا تَعَمَّدَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْ

And God is a Great Forgiver, Benevolent. 5

وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورًۭا رَّحِيمًا

The Prophet has, over the believers, more right than they have over themselves, 6

ٱلنَّبِىُّ أَوْلَىٰ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ

ورش قالون

and his wives are their mothers. 6

وَأَزْوَٰجُهُۥٓ أُمَّهَٰتُهُمْ

And those bound by kinship have, toward one another, more right under God's Code than the [unrelated] believers and the emigrants — except that you do a kindness toward your allies.i 6

وَأُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَرْحَامِ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلَىٰ بِبَعْضٍۢ فِى كِتَٰبِ ٱللَّهِ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُهَٰجِرِينَ إِلَّآ أَن تَفْعَلُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَوْلِيَآئِكُم مَّعْرُوفًۭا

That was recorded in the Scripture.i 6

كَانَ ذَٰلِكَ فِى ٱلْكِتَٰبِ مَسْطُورًۭا

And [recall] when We took from the prophets their pledge, and from you, and from Nuh, Ibrahim, Moussa, and Issa, son of Maryam —i 7

وَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِنَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ مِيثَٰقَهُمْ وَمِنكَ وَمِن نُّوحٍۢ وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ وَعِيسَى ٱبْنِ مَرْيَمَ

and We took from them a solemn pledge, so that He might question the truthful about their truthfulness; 8

وَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُم مِّيثَٰقًا غَلِيظًۭا لِّيَسْـَٔلَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ عَن صِدْقِهِمْ

and He has prepared for those who deny a painful punishment. 8

وَأَعَدَّ لِلْكَٰفِرِينَ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًۭا

O you who believe, remember God's favor upon you, when armies came against you, and We sent against them a wind and armies you did not see. 9

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذْ جَآءَتْكُمْ جُنُودٌۭ فَأَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًۭا وَجُنُودًۭا لَّمْ تَرَوْهَا

And God sees all that you do.i 9

وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرًا

الدوري السوسي

remember when they came upon you from above you and from below you, 10

إِذْ جَآءُوكُم مِّن فَوْقِكُمْ وَمِنْ أَسْفَلَ مِنكُمْ

and when eyes turned aside, and cores reached the throats, and you entertained about God all manner of assumptions. 10

وَإِذْ زَاغَتِ ٱلْأَبْصَٰرُ وَبَلَغَتِ ٱلْقُلُوبُ ٱلْحَنَاجِرَ وَتَظُنُّونَ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلظُّنُونَا۠

There the believers were tested, and shaken with a violent shaking. 11

هُنَالِكَ ٱبْتُلِىَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَزُلْزِلُوا۟ زِلْزَالًۭا شَدِيدًۭا

And when the hypocrites, and those in whose cores is a sickness, said, "God and His messenger promised us nothing but delusion," 12

وَإِذْ يَقُولُ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقُونَ وَٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌۭ مَّا وَعَدَنَا ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥٓ إِلَّا غُرُورًۭا

and when a party among them said, "O people of Yathrib, there is no place for you [here]; go back," 13

وَإِذْ قَالَت طَّآئِفَةٌۭ مِّنْهُمْ يَٰٓأَهْلَ يَثْرِبَ لَا مُقَامَ لَكُمْ فَٱرْجِعُوا۟

and a party among them was asking the Prophet's leave, saying, "Our houses lack privacy" — when they did not:i 13

وَيَسْتَـْٔذِنُ فَرِيقٌۭ مِّنْهُمُ ٱلنَّبِىَّ يَقُولُونَ إِنَّ بُيُوتَنَا عَوْرَةٌۭ وَمَا هِىَ بِعَوْرَةٍ

they wanted nothing but to flee. 13

إِن يُرِيدُونَ إِلَّا فِرَارًۭا

And if [the city] had been entered from all its sides, and they had then been asked to betray, they would have done it, and would have hesitated but a little. 14

وَلَوْ دُخِلَتْ عَلَيْهِم مِّنْ أَقْطَارِهَا ثُمَّ سُئِلُوا۟ ٱلْفِتْنَةَ لَءَاتَوْهَا وَمَا تَلَبَّثُوا۟ بِهَآ إِلَّا يَسِيرًۭا

And they had certainly made a pact with God before, not to turn their backs [in battle]; 15

وَلَقَدْ كَانُوا۟ عَٰهَدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مِن قَبْلُ لَا يُوَلُّونَ ٱلْأَدْبَٰرَ

and for God's pact one will be held to account. 15

وَكَانَ عَهْدُ ٱللَّهِ مَسْـُٔولًۭا

Say, "Flight will not benefit you if you flee from death or killing, 16

قُل لَّن يَنفَعَكُمُ ٱلْفِرَارُ إِن فَرَرْتُم مِّنَ ٱلْمَوْتِ أَوِ ٱلْقَتْلِ

and then you would only enjoy [life] a little." 16

وَإِذًۭا لَّا تُمَتَّعُونَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًۭا

Say, "Who is it that could shield you from God, should He intend for you harm, or intend for you benevolence?" 17

قُلْ مَن ذَا ٱلَّذِى يَعْصِمُكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ إِنْ أَرَادَ بِكُمْ سُوٓءًا أَوْ أَرَادَ بِكُمْ رَحْمَةًۭ

And they will find, besides God, neither ally nor helper. 17

وَلَا يَجِدُونَ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِيًّۭا وَلَا نَصِيرًۭا

God certainly knows those among you who obstruct, and those who say to their brothers, "Come to us," and who come to the fight only a little, being stingy toward you. 19

قَدْ يَعْلَمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُعَوِّقِينَ مِنكُمْ وَٱلْقَآئِلِينَ لِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْ هَلُمَّ إِلَيْنَا وَلَا يَأْتُونَ ٱلْبَأْسَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا أَشِحَّةً عَلَيْكُمْ

Then, when fear comes, you see them looking at you, their eyes rolling like one overcome by fainting from death. 19

فَإِذَا جَآءَ ٱلْخَوْفُ رَأَيْتَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ تَدُورُ أَعْيُنُهُمْ كَٱلَّذِى يُغْشَىٰ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْمَوْتِ

Then, when the fear departs, they assail you with sharp tongues, stingy over any good. 19

فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ ٱلْخَوْفُ سَلَقُوكُم بِأَلْسِنَةٍ حِدَادٍ أَشِحَّةً عَلَى ٱلْخَيْرِ

Those have not believed, so God has voided their deeds, 19

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا۟ فَأَحْبَطَ ٱللَّهُ أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ

and that is, for God, an easy thing. 19

وَكَانَ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ يَسِيرًۭا

They think the confederates have not gone; 20

يَحْسَبُونَ ٱلْأَحْزَابَ لَمْ يَذْهَبُوا۟

and were the confederates to come [again], they would wish they had withdrawn among the notables,i 20

وَإِن يَأْتِ ٱلْأَحْزَابُ يَوَدُّوا۟ لَوْ أَنَّهُم بَادُونَ فِى ٱلْأَعْرَابِ

asking about your news; and were they among you, they would have fought only a little. 20

يَسْـَٔلُونَ عَنْ أَنۢبَآئِكُمْ وَلَوْ كَانُوا۟ فِيكُم مَّا قَٰتَلُوٓا۟ إِلَّا قَلِيلًۭا

You have certainly had, in the messenger of God, a beautiful example for whoever hopes for [the meeting with] God and the Last Day, and remembers God much. 21

لَّقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِى رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌۭ لِّمَن كَانَ يَرْجُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلْءَاخِرَ وَذَكَرَ ٱللَّهَ كَثِيرًۭا

And when the believers saw the confederates, they said, "This is what God and His messenger promised us, and God and His messenger spoke truly," 22

وَلَمَّا رَءَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ٱلْأَحْزَابَ قَالُوا۟ هَٰذَا مَا وَعَدَنَا ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَصَدَقَ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ

and it only increased them in faith and [trusting] submission. 22

وَمَا زَادَهُمْ إِلَّآ إِيمَٰنًۭا وَتَسْلِيمًۭا

Among the believers are men who have been true to what they pledged to God: 23

مِّنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ رِجَالٌۭ صَدَقُوا۟ مَا عَٰهَدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ عَلَيْهِ

some of them have fulfilled their vow [unto death], and some of them are waiting, 23

فَمِنْهُم مَّن قَضَىٰ نَحْبَهُۥ وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَنتَظِرُ

and they have not changed in the least — so that God may reward the truthful for their truthfulness, and punish the hypocrites, if He wills, or turn to them [in forgiveness]. 24

وَمَا بَدَّلُوا۟ تَبْدِيلًۭا لِّيَجْزِىَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ بِصِدْقِهِمْ وَيُعَذِّبَ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ إِن شَآءَ أَوْ يَتُوبَ عَلَيْهِمْ

God is certainly a Great Forgiver, Benevolent. 24

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ غَفُورًۭا رَّحِيمًۭا

And God turned back those who denied, in their rage, without their obtaining any good; 25

وَرَدَّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِغَيْظِهِمْ لَمْ يَنَالُوا۟ خَيْرًۭا

and God spared the believers the fight. 25

وَكَفَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٱلْقِتَالَ

And God is Strong, All-Powerful. 25

وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ قَوِيًّا عَزِيزًۭا

And He brought down from their strongholds those, among the People of the Scripture, who had supported them, and cast terror into their cores:i 26

وَأَنزَلَ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَٰهَرُوهُم مِّنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ مِن صَيَاصِيهِمْ وَقَذَفَ فِى قُلُوبِهِمُ ٱلرُّعْبَ

one party you were killing, and another party you were taking captive; 26

فَرِيقًۭا تَقْتُلُونَ وَتَأْسِرُونَ فَرِيقًۭا

and He made you inherit their land, their homes, and their wealth, and a land you had not trodden. 27

وَأَوْرَثَكُمْ أَرْضَهُمْ وَدِيَٰرَهُمْ وَأَمْوَٰلَهُمْ وَأَرْضًۭا لَّمْ تَطَـُٔوهَا

And God has full power over all things. 27

وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدِيرًۭا

O Prophet, say to your wives, "If you desire the present life and its adornment, come, I will grant you provision and release you with a fitting release; 28

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ قُل لِّأَزْوَٰجِكَ إِن كُنتُنَّ تُرِدْنَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَزِينَتَهَا فَتَعَالَيْنَ أُمَتِّعْكُنَّ وَأُسَرِّحْكُنَّ سَرَاحًۭا جَمِيلًۭا

ورش قالون

but if you desire God, His messenger, and the abode of the Hereafter, then God has prepared, for those among you who do good, a great reward." 29

وَإِن كُنتُنَّ تُرِدْنَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَٱلدَّارَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةَ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ أَعَدَّ لِلْمُحْسِنَٰتِ مِنكُنَّ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًۭا

O wives of the Prophet, whoever among you commits a manifest indecency, the punishment would be doubled for her, twice over;i 30

يَٰنِسَآءَ ٱلنَّبِىِّ مَن يَأْتِ مِنكُنَّ بِفَٰحِشَةٍۢ مُّبَيِّنَةٍۢ يُضَٰعَفْ لَهَا ٱلْعَذَابُ ضِعْفَيْنِ

and that is, for God, an easy thing. 30

وَكَانَ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ يَسِيرًۭا

And whoever among you devoutly submits to God and His messenger and does righteousness, We will give her reward twice, and We have prepared for her a generous provision. 31

وَمَن يَقْنُتْ مِنكُنَّ لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَتَعْمَلْ صَٰلِحًۭا نُّؤْتِهَآ أَجْرَهَا مَرَّتَيْنِ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لَهَا رِزْقًۭا كَرِيمًۭا

O wives of the Prophet, you are not like any other of women, if you guard yourselves [before Him].i 32

يَٰنِسَآءَ ٱلنَّبِىِّ لَسْتُنَّ كَأَحَدٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلنِّسَآءِ إِنِ ٱتَّقَيْتُنَّ

ورش قالون

So do not be complaisant in speech, lest he in whose core is a sickness should covet; and speak a recognized word, and remain in your homes,i 33

فَلَا تَخْضَعْنَ بِٱلْقَوْلِ فَيَطْمَعَ ٱلَّذِى فِى قَلْبِهِۦ مَرَضٌۭ وَقُلْنَ قَوْلًۭا مَّعْرُوفًۭا وَقَرْنَ فِى بُيُوتِكُنَّ

and do not flaunt yourselves as was flaunted in the former ignorance.i 33

وَلَا تَبَرَّجْنَ تَبَرُّجَ ٱلْجَٰهِلِيَّةِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ

Maintain the Contact, and give the purifying alms, 33

وَأَقِمْنَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتِينَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ

and obey God and His messenger. 33

وَأَطِعْنَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥٓ

God only intends to remove from you impurity, People of the House, and to purify you completely. 33

إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنكُمُ ٱلرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ ٱلْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًۭا

And remember what is recited in your homes of God's signs and wisdom. 34

وَٱذْكُرْنَ مَا يُتْلَىٰ فِى بُيُوتِكُنَّ مِنْ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلْحِكْمَةِ

God is certainly Subtle, Aware. 34

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ لَطِيفًا خَبِيرًا

Integral men toward God and integral women toward God, believing men and believing women, devout men and devout women, truthful men and truthful women, enduring men and enduring women, humble men and humble women, men who give alms and women who give alms, men and women who abstain from vain speech, men who guard their private parts and women who guard them, men who remember God much and women who remember Him — God has prepared for them forgiveness and an immense reward.i 35

إِنَّ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ وَٱلْمُسْلِمَٰتِ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ وَٱلْقَٰنِتِينَ وَٱلْقَٰنِتَٰتِ وَٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ وَٱلصَّٰدِقَٰتِ وَٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ وَٱلصَّٰبِرَٰتِ وَٱلْخَٰشِعِينَ وَٱلْخَٰشِعَٰتِ وَٱلْمُتَصَدِّقِينَ وَٱلْمُتَصَدِّقَٰتِ وَٱلصَّٰٓئِمِينَ وَٱلصَّٰٓئِمَٰتِ وَٱلْحَٰفِظِينَ فُرُوجَهُمْ وَٱلْحَٰفِظَٰتِ وَٱلذَّٰكِرِينَ ٱللَّهَ كَثِيرًۭا وَٱلذَّٰكِرَٰتِ أَعَدَّ ٱللَّهُ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةًۭ وَأَجْرًا عَظِيمًۭا

And it is not for any believing man or believing woman, when God and His messenger have decided a matter, to have the choice in their own affair.i 36

وَمَا كَانَ لِمُؤْمِنٍۢ وَلَا مُؤْمِنَةٍ إِذَا قَضَى ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥٓ أَمْرًا أَن يَكُونَ لَهُمُ ٱلْخِيَرَةُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِمْ

And whoever disobeys God and His messenger has strayed into manifest error. 36

وَمَن يَعْصِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ ضَلَٰلًۭا مُّبِينًۭا

And [recall] when you said to the one God had favored and you had favored, "Keep your wife and guard yourself before God," while concealing within yourself what God was going to make known, and fearing the people, when God is more deserving that you fear Him.i 37

وَإِذْ تَقُولُ لِلَّذِىٓ أَنْعَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِ أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ زَوْجَكَ وَٱتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ وَتُخْفِى فِى نَفْسِكَ مَا ٱللَّهُ مُبْدِيهِ وَتَخْشَى ٱلنَّاسَ وَٱللَّهُ أَحَقُّ أَن تَخْشَىٰهُ

Then when Zayd had ended all engagement toward her, We gave her to you in marriage, so that there would be no discomfort for the believers concerning the wives of their adopted sons, once they have ended all engagement toward them.i 37

فَلَمَّا قَضَىٰ زَيْدٌۭ مِّنْهَا وَطَرًۭا زَوَّجْنَٰكَهَا لِكَىْ لَا يَكُونَ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ حَرَجٌۭ فِىٓ أَزْوَٰجِ أَدْعِيَآئِهِمْ إِذَا قَضَوْا۟ مِنْهُنَّ وَطَرًۭا

And God's command is [always] carried out. 37

وَكَانَ أَمْرُ ٱللَّهِ مَفْعُولًۭا

There is no discomfort for the Prophet in what God has ordained for him — 38

مَّا كَانَ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِىِّ مِنْ حَرَجٍۢ فِيمَا فَرَضَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُۥ

such was God's norm with those who passed before. 38

سُنَّةَ ٱللَّهِ فِى ٱلَّذِينَ خَلَوْا۟ مِن قَبْلُ

And God's command is a decree determined. 38

وَكَانَ أَمْرُ ٱللَّهِ قَدَرًۭا مَّقْدُورًا

Those who deliver God's messages, and fear Him, and fear no one but God — 39

ٱلَّذِينَ يُبَلِّغُونَ رِسَٰلَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَخْشَوْنَهُۥ وَلَا يَخْشَوْنَ أَحَدًا إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ

and God suffices as a reckoner. 39

وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ حَسِيبًۭا

Muhammad is not the father of any of your men,i 40

مَّا كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ أَبَآ أَحَدٍۢ مِّن رِّجَالِكُمْ

but rather the messenger of God and the seal of the prophets. 40

وَلَٰكِن رَّسُولَ ٱللَّهِ وَخَاتَمَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ

And God is All-Knowing of all things. 40

وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمًۭا

O you who believe, remember God much, and glorify Him morning and evening. 42

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱذْكُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ذِكْرًۭا كَثِيرًۭا وَسَبِّحُوهُ بُكْرَةًۭ وَأَصِيلًا

It is He who makes contact with you, He and His Agents, so as to bring you out of the darknesses into the light;i 43

هُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُصَلِّى عَلَيْكُمْ وَمَلَٰٓئِكَتُهُۥ لِيُخْرِجَكُم مِّنَ ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ

and He is, toward the believers, Benevolent. 43

وَكَانَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَحِيمًۭا

Their greeting, the day they meet Him, will be, "Peace." 44

تَحِيَّتُهُمْ يَوْمَ يَلْقَوْنَهُۥ سَلَٰمٌۭ

And He has prepared for them a generous reward. 44

وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًۭا كَرِيمًۭا

O Prophet, We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of good news, and a warner, as one calling to God by His permission, and as an illuminating lamp. 46

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ شَٰهِدًۭا وَمُبَشِّرًۭا وَنَذِيرًۭا وَدَاعِيًا إِلَى ٱللَّهِ بِإِذْنِهِۦ وَسِرَاجًۭا مُّنِيرًۭا

ورش قالون

And give the believers the good news that they will have, from God, great favor. 47

وَبَشِّرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ بِأَنَّ لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ فَضْلًۭا كَبِيرًۭا

And do not obey those who deny nor the hypocrites, 48

وَلَا تُطِعِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ وَٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ

and disregard their harm, 48

وَدَعْ أَذَىٰهُمْ

and rely upon God: 48

وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ

God suffices as an agent. 48

وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ وَكِيلًۭا

O you who believe, when you marry believing women and then divorce them before you have touched them, you have no waiting period against them for you to count. 49

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِذَا نَكَحْتُمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ ثُمَّ طَلَّقْتُمُوهُنَّ مِن قَبْلِ أَن تَمَسُّوهُنَّ فَمَا لَكُمْ عَلَيْهِنَّ مِنْ عِدَّةٍۢ تَعْتَدُّونَهَا

So grant them provision, and release them with a fitting release. 49

فَمَتِّعُوهُنَّ وَسَرِّحُوهُنَّ سَرَاحًۭا جَمِيلًۭا

O Prophet, We have made lawful to you your wives to whom you have given their bridal gifts, she who is bound to you by pledge among what God has granted you, and the daughters of your paternal uncle, the daughters of your paternal aunts, the daughters of your maternal uncle, and the daughters of your maternal aunts who emigrated with you, and any believing woman if she gives herself to the Prophet — provided the Prophet wishes to marry her:i 50

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ إِنَّآ أَحْلَلْنَا لَكَ أَزْوَٰجَكَ ٱلَّٰتِىٓ ءَاتَيْتَ أُجُورَهُنَّ وَمَا مَلَكَتْ يَمِينُكَ مِمَّآ أَفَآءَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ وَبَنَاتِ عَمِّكَ وَبَنَاتِ عَمَّٰتِكَ وَبَنَاتِ خَالِكَ وَبَنَاتِ خَٰلَٰتِكَ ٱلَّٰتِى هَاجَرْنَ مَعَكَ وَٱمْرَأَةًۭ مُّؤْمِنَةً إِن وَهَبَتْ نَفْسَهَا لِلنَّبِىِّ إِنْ أَرَادَ ٱلنَّبِىُّ أَن يَسْتَنكِحَهَا

exclusively for you, and not for the [other] believers. 50

خَالِصَةًۭ لَّكَ مِن دُونِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

We certainly know what We have ordained for them concerning their wives and those bound to them by pledge, so that there may be no discomfort for you;i 50

قَدْ عَلِمْنَا مَا فَرَضْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ فِىٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ وَمَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَٰنُهُمْ لِكَيْلَا يَكُونَ عَلَيْكَ حَرَجٌۭ

and God is a Great Forgiver, Benevolent. 50

وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورًۭا رَّحِيمًۭا

You may defer whom you will of them, and take to yourself whom you will; 51

تُرْجِى مَن تَشَآءُ مِنْهُنَّ وَتُـْٔوِىٓ إِلَيْكَ مَن تَشَآءُ

and whomever you desire of those you had set aside, no blame attaches to you. 51

وَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَيْتَ مِمَّنْ عَزَلْتَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكَ

That is more fitting so that their gaze may settle, and they not grieve, and they be content, all of them, with what you give them.i 51

ذَٰلِكَ أَدْنَىٰٓ أَن تَقَرَّ أَعْيُنُهُنَّ وَلَا يَحْزَنَّ وَيَرْضَيْنَ بِمَآ ءَاتَيْتَهُنَّ كُلُّهُنَّ

And God knows what is in your cores; 51

وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا فِى قُلُوبِكُمْ

and God is All-Knowing, Thoughtful. 51

وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلِيمًا حَلِيمًۭا

It is not lawful for you [to marry other] women after this, nor to exchange them for other wives, even were their beauty to please you — except she who is bound to you by pledge.i 52

لَّا يَحِلُّ لَكَ ٱلنِّسَآءُ مِنۢ بَعْدُ وَلَآ أَن تَبَدَّلَ بِهِنَّ مِنْ أَزْوَٰجٍۢ وَلَوْ أَعْجَبَكَ حُسْنُهُنَّ إِلَّا مَا مَلَكَتْ يَمِينُكَ

الدوري السوسي

And God watches over all things. 52

وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ رَّقِيبًۭا

O you who believe, do not enter the houses of the Prophet unless permission is given you for a meal, without awaiting its readiness; 53

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَدْخُلُوا۟ بُيُوتَ ٱلنَّبِىِّ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤْذَنَ لَكُمْ إِلَىٰ طَعَامٍ غَيْرَ نَٰظِرِينَ إِنَىٰهُ

ورش

but when you are invited, enter; and when you have eaten, disperse, without lingering for conversation. 53

وَلَٰكِنْ إِذَا دُعِيتُمْ فَٱدْخُلُوا۟ فَإِذَا طَعِمْتُمْ فَٱنتَشِرُوا۟ وَلَا مُسْتَـْٔنِسِينَ لِحَدِيثٍ

That used to trouble the Prophet, though he felt shy toward you, 53

إِنَّ ذَٰلِكُمْ كَانَ يُؤْذِى ٱلنَّبِىَّ فَيَسْتَحْىِۦ مِنكُمْ

ورش قالون

whereas God is not shy of the truth. 53

وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَسْتَحْىِۦ مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ

And when you ask them for an item, ask them from behind a screen: 53

وَإِذَا سَأَلْتُمُوهُنَّ مَتَٰعًۭا فَسْـَٔلُوهُنَّ مِن وَرَآءِ حِجَابٍۢ

that is purer for your cores and their cores. 53

ذَٰلِكُمْ أَطْهَرُ لِقُلُوبِكُمْ وَقُلُوبِهِنَّ

And it is not for you to trouble the messenger of God, nor to marry his wives after him, ever; 53

وَمَا كَانَ لَكُمْ أَن تُؤْذُوا۟ رَسُولَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَآ أَن تَنكِحُوٓا۟ أَزْوَٰجَهُۥ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦٓ أَبَدًا

that is, with God, momentous. 53

إِنَّ ذَٰلِكُمْ كَانَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ عَظِيمًا

Whether you disclose a thing or conceal it, God is All-Knowing of all things. 54

إِن تُبْدُوا۟ شَيْـًٔا أَوْ تُخْفُوهُ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمًۭا

There is no blame upon them concerning their fathers, nor their sons, nor their brothers, nor their brothers' sons, nor their sisters' sons, nor the women of their own circle, nor those bound to them by pledge.i 55

لَّا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِنَّ فِىٓ ءَابَآئِهِنَّ وَلَآ أَبْنَآئِهِنَّ وَلَآ إِخْوَٰنِهِنَّ وَلَآ أَبْنَآءِ إِخْوَٰنِهِنَّ وَلَآ أَبْنَآءِ أَخَوَٰتِهِنَّ وَلَا نِسَآئِهِنَّ وَلَا مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَٰنُهُنَّ

And guard yourselves before God:i 55

وَٱتَّقِينَ ٱللَّهَ

God is, over all things, a witness. 55

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ شَهِيدًا

God and His Agents are in constant contact with the Prophet.i 56

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَمَلَٰٓئِكَتَهُۥ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِىِّ

O you who believe, connect with him, and greet him with a [peaceful] salutation. 56

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ صَلُّوا۟ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا۟ تَسْلِيمًا

Those who trouble God and His messenger — God has cursed them in the present life and the Hereafter, and has prepared for them a humiliating punishment. 57

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْذُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ لَعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْءَاخِرَةِ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمْ عَذَابًۭا مُّهِينًۭا

And those who trouble believing men and believing women for anything other than what they have earned bear the weight of slander and manifest transgression. 58

وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْذُونَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ بِغَيْرِ مَا ٱكْتَسَبُوا۟ فَقَدِ ٱحْتَمَلُوا۟ بُهْتَٰنًۭا وَإِثْمًۭا مُّبِينًۭا

O Prophet, tell your wives, your daughters, and the women of the believers to draw over themselves part of their outer garments: 59

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ قُل لِّأَزْوَٰجِكَ وَبَنَاتِكَ وَنِسَآءِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يُدْنِينَ عَلَيْهِنَّ مِن جَلَٰبِيبِهِنَّ

ورش قالون

that is more fitting so that they will be recognized and not be harmed. 59

ذَٰلِكَ أَدْنَىٰٓ أَن يُعْرَفْنَ فَلَا يُؤْذَيْنَ

And God is a Great Forgiver, Benevolent. 59

وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورًۭا رَّحِيمًۭا

If the hypocrites, those in whose cores is a sickness, and the rumor-mongers in the Capital do not cease, We will certainly incite you against them; then they will not remain your neighbors there except a little, being cursed. 61

لَّئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقُونَ وَٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌۭ وَٱلْمُرْجِفُونَ فِى ٱلْمَدِينَةِ لَنُغْرِيَنَّكَ بِهِمْ ثُمَّ لَا يُجَاوِرُونَكَ فِيهَآ إِلَّا قَلِيلًۭا مَّلْعُونِينَ

Wherever they are found, they will be seized and killed outright. 61

أَيْنَمَا ثُقِفُوٓا۟ أُخِذُوا۟ وَقُتِّلُوا۟ تَقْتِيلًۭا

[Such was] God's norm with those who passed before, 62

سُنَّةَ ٱللَّهِ فِى ٱلَّذِينَ خَلَوْا۟ مِن قَبْلُ

and you will never find in God's norm any change. 62

وَلَن تَجِدَ لِسُنَّةِ ٱللَّهِ تَبْدِيلًۭا

The people ask you about the Hour. 63

يَسْـَٔلُكَ ٱلنَّاسُ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ

Say, "Its knowledge is only with God, 63

قُلْ إِنَّمَا عِلْمُهَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ

and what would make you know? 63

وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ

Perhaps the Hour is near." 63

لَعَلَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ تَكُونُ قَرِيبًا

God has certainly cursed those who deny, and has prepared for them a Blaze in which they will abide forever, finding neither ally nor helper — 65

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَعَنَ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمْ سَعِيرًا خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًۭا لَّا يَجِدُونَ وَلِيًّۭا وَلَا نَصِيرًۭا

the day their direction is overturned in the Fire, they will say, "Would that we had obeyed God and obeyed the Messenger!"i 66

يَوْمَ تُقَلَّبُ وُجُوهُهُمْ فِى ٱلنَّارِ يَقُولُونَ يَٰلَيْتَنَآ أَطَعْنَا ٱللَّهَ وَأَطَعْنَا ٱلرَّسُولَا۠

And they will say, "Our Guardian, we obeyed our chiefs and our great ones, and they led us astray from the way. 67

وَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَآ إِنَّآ أَطَعْنَا سَادَتَنَا وَكُبَرَآءَنَا فَأَضَلُّونَا ٱلسَّبِيلَا۠

Our Guardian, give them double punishment, and curse them with a many-fold curse."i 68

رَبَّنَآ ءَاتِهِمْ ضِعْفَيْنِ مِنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ وَٱلْعَنْهُمْ لَعْنًۭا كَبِيرًۭا

ورش قالون البزي قنبل الدوري السوسي

O you who believe, do not be like those who troubled Moussa; God cleared him of what they said,i 69

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِينَ ءَاذَوْا۟ مُوسَىٰ فَبَرَّأَهُ ٱللَّهُ مِمَّا قَالُوا۟

and he was, with God, honorable. 69

وَكَانَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَجِيهًۭا

O you who believe, guard yourselves before God and speak a straight word: He will set right your deeds for you and forgive you your wrongs.i 71

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَقُولُوا۟ قَوْلًۭا سَدِيدًۭا يُصْلِحْ لَكُمْ أَعْمَٰلَكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ

And whoever obeys God and His messenger has attained a great triumph. 71

وَمَن يُطِعِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَقَدْ فَازَ فَوْزًا عَظِيمًا

We offered the trust to the heavens, the earth, and the mountains; they refused to bear it and were afraid of it, 72

إِنَّا عَرَضْنَا ٱلْأَمَانَةَ عَلَى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱلْجِبَالِ فَأَبَيْنَ أَن يَحْمِلْنَهَا وَأَشْفَقْنَ مِنْهَا

and man bore it: he was certainly deeply unjust, deeply ignorant — so that God may punish the hypocrite men and the hypocrite women, the idolatrous men and the idolatrous women, and turn in forgiveness to the believing men and the believing women. 73

وَحَمَلَهَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ ظَلُومًۭا جَهُولًۭا لِّيُعَذِّبَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ وَٱلْمُنَٰفِقَٰتِ وَٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ وَٱلْمُشْرِكَٰتِ وَيَتُوبَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ

And God is a Great Forgiver, Benevolent. 73

وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورًۭا رَّحِيمًۢا
