Sourate As-Saffat (37) vowelled

In the name of God, the benevolent, the Kind. By the ranks drawn up in order, by those who drive back with force, by those who recite the Reminder: your god is indeed one,i 4

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ وَٱلصَّٰٓفَّٰتِ صَفًّۭا فَٱلزَّٰجِرَٰتِ زَجْرًۭا فَٱلتَّٰلِيَٰتِ ذِكْرًا إِنَّ إِلَٰهَكُمْ لَوَٰحِدٌۭ

Guardian of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, and Guardian of the risings [of the sun]. 5

رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ ٱلْمَشَٰرِقِ

We have adorned the nearest heaven with the ornament of the stars, 6

إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ ٱلْكَوَاكِبِ

and guarded it from every rebellious Diverter,i 7

وَحِفْظًۭا مِّن كُلِّ شَيْطَٰنٍۢ مَّارِدٍۢ

who cannot listen to the sublime assembly, and are pelted from every side, 8

لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى ٱلْمَلَإِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍۢ

driven off violently; 9

دُحُورًۭا

and they have an unceasing punishment — except him who snatches a fleeting glimpse: a piercing flame then pursues him. 10

وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌۭ وَاصِبٌ إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ ٱلْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌۭ ثَاقِبٌۭ

Ask them then: are they harder to create, or those We have created? 11

فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَم مَّنْ خَلَقْنَآ

We created them from a clinging clay. 11

إِنَّا خَلَقْنَٰهُم مِّن طِينٍۢ لَّازِبٍۭ

But you marvel, while they mock; 12

بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ

and when they are reminded, they do not remember; 13

وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ لَا يَذْكُرُونَ

and when they see a sign, they redouble their mockery, 14

وَإِذَا رَأَوْا۟ ءَايَةًۭ يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ

and say: "This is nothing but a plain illusion. When we are dead, earth and bones, shall we be resurrected — we, or our earliest forefathers?" 17

وَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌۭ مُّبِينٌ أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًۭا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ

شعبة قالون البزي قنبل الدوري السوسي

Say: "Yes, and you will be humbled." 18

قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنتُمْ دَٰخِرُونَ

It will be but a single rumbling blast, and there they are, looking on, 19

فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌۭ وَٰحِدَةٌۭ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنظُرُونَ

saying: "Woe to us, this is the Day of Retribution!" 20

وَقَالُوا۟ يَٰوَيْلَنَا هَٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ

"This is the Day of Separation, which you used to deny." 21

هَٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ

"Gather those who did wrong, their spouses, and what they used to obey besides God, then guide them to the path of the Blaze, 23

ٱحْشُرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ وَأَزْوَٰجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَٱهْدُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

and hold them: they are to be questioned." 24

وَقِفُوهُمْ إِنَّهُم مَّسْـُٔولُونَ

"What is wrong with you, that you do not help one another?" 25

مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ

No, that day, they are utterly submissive. 26

بَلْ هُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ

And they turn to one another, questioning each other. 27

وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍۢ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ

They say: "It was you who used to come at us from the right." 28

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ

They answer: "No, it was you who were not believers; 29

قَالُوا۟ بَل لَّمْ تَكُونُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَ

and we had no authority over you — you were rather a tyrannical people. 30

وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُم مِّن سُلْطَٰنٍۭ بَلْ كُنتُمْ قَوْمًۭا طَٰغِينَ

So our Guardian's word has justly come due against us: we shall indeed taste [the punishment]. We led you astray — we ourselves were astray." 32

فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَآ إِنَّا لَذَآئِقُونَ فَأَغْوَيْنَٰكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَٰوِينَ

That day, they are all partners in the punishment. 33

فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ

This is how We deal with the severed. 34

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

Indeed, whenever it was said to them, "There is no god but God," they would swell with arrogance and say: "Shall we abandon our gods for a deranged beguiling rhetorician?"i 36

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوٓا۟ إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُوٓا۟ ءَالِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍۢ مَّجْنُونٍۭ

No, he came with the truth, and confirmed the messengers. 37

بَلْ جَآءَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

You will surely taste the painful punishment, 38

إِنَّكُمْ لَذَآئِقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْأَلِيمِ

and you will be repaid only for what you used to do — except the purified obedient ones of God: 40

وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

those have a known provision, fruits, 42

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٌۭ مَّعْلُومٌۭ فَوَٰكِهُ

and they are honored in the Gardens of Bliss, on couches facing one another. 44

وَهُم مُّكْرَمُونَ فِى جَنَّٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍۢ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ

A cup will be passed among them from a [pure] spring, white, delightful for those who drink it, causing no headache and no intoxication, 47

يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِكَأْسٍۢ مِّن مَّعِينٍۭ بَيْضَآءَ لَذَّةٍۢ لِّلشَّٰرِبِينَ لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌۭ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنزَفُونَ

and beside them will be companions of reserved, clear gaze, as though they were closely guarded eggs. 49

وَعِندَهُمْ قَٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرْفِ عِينٌۭ كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيْضٌۭ مَّكْنُونٌۭ

And they turn to one another, questioning each other. 50

فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍۢ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ

One of them says: "I had a companion who used to say: 'Are you truly one of those who hold this to be true? When we are dead, earth and bones, shall we truly be judged?'"i 53

قَالَ قَآئِلٌۭ مِّنْهُمْ إِنِّى كَانَ لِى قَرِينٌۭ يَقُولُ أَءِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُصَدِّقِينَ أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًۭا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَ

He says: "Do you wish to look?" So he looked, and saw him in the midst of the Blaze. 55

قَالَ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَ فَٱطَّلَعَ فَرَءَاهُ فِى سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

He says: "By God, you nearly caused my ruin; and were it not for my Guardian's favor, I would have been among those brought forth [for punishment]. 57

قَالَ تَٱللَّهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرْدِينِ وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّى لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ

Are we not dead, except our first death, and shall we not be punished?" 59

أَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ إِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ

This is indeed the immense triumph! 60

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ

It is for such an outcome that those who act should act. 61

لِمِثْلِ هَٰذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ ٱلْعَٰمِلُونَ

Is that a better welcome, or the tree of Zaqqoum?i 62

أَذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌۭ نُّزُلًا أَمْ شَجَرَةُ ٱلزَّقُّومِ

We have made it a trial for the wrongdoers: 63

إِنَّا جَعَلْنَٰهَا فِتْنَةًۭ لِّلظَّٰلِمِينَ

it is a tree that grows at the root of the Blaze, whose fruits resemble the heads of Diverters.i 65

إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌۭ تَخْرُجُ فِىٓ أَصْلِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُۥ رُءُوسُ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينِ

They will eat from it and fill their bellies with it; then on top of it they will have a mixture of scalding water. 67

فَإِنَّهُمْ لَءَاكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لَشَوْبًۭا مِّنْ حَمِيمٍۢ

Then their return will indeed be to the Blaze. 68

ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَإِلَى ٱلْجَحِيمِ

They found their ancestors astray, and rushed headlong in their footsteps.i 70

إِنَّهُمْ أَلْفَوْا۟ ءَابَآءَهُمْ ضَآلِّينَ فَهُمْ عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَٰرِهِمْ يُهْرَعُونَ

And indeed, before them, most of the earlier peoples had gone astray, 71

وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

and We had certainly sent warners among them. 72

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِم مُّنذِرِينَ

So see what became of those who were warned — except the purified obedient ones of God. 74

فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

And Nuh indeed called upon Us,i 75

وَلَقَدْ نَادَىٰنَا نُوحٌۭ

and what an excellent Responder We are! 75

فَلَنِعْمَ ٱلْمُجِيبُونَ

We saved him and his household from the great distress, 76

وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

and We made his offspring the ones who endured. 77

وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥ هُمُ ٱلْبَاقِينَ

And We left upon him, among later generations: 78

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْءَاخِرِينَ

"Peace upon Nuh, among all beings!"i 79

سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٍۢ فِى ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

This is how We reward those who excel [in good]. 80

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

He was among Our believing obedient ones. 81

إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Then We drowned the others. 82

ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا ٱلْءَاخَرِينَ

And Ibrahim was indeed of his [spiritual] line, when he came to his Guardian with a sound Core, when he said to his father and his people: "What do you obey?i 85

وَإِنَّ مِن شِيعَتِهِۦ لَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ إِذْ جَآءَ رَبَّهُۥ بِقَلْبٍۢ سَلِيمٍ إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦ مَاذَا تَعْبُدُونَ

Is it a lie — do you desire gods besides God? 86

أَئِفْكًا ءَالِهَةًۭ دُونَ ٱللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَ

What then do you think of the Guardian of all beings?" 87

فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

He cast a glance at the stars, and said: "I am unwell"; so they turned away from him, departing. 90

فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةًۭ فِى ٱلنُّجُومِ فَقَالَ إِنِّى سَقِيمٌۭ فَتَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ مُدْبِرِينَ

Then he stole away to their gods, and said: "Do you not eat? What is wrong with you, that you do not speak?" 92

فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنطِقُونَ

Then he turned upon them, striking with his right hand; then [his people] came rushing toward him.i 94

فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضَرْبًۢا بِٱلْيَمِينِ فَأَقْبَلُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَ

He said: "Do you obey what you carve, when God created you and what you make?" 96

قَالَ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَ وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَ

They said: "Build him a structure, and cast him into the Blaze!" They intended a scheme against him, but We made them the lowest. 98

قَالُوا۟ ٱبْنُوا۟ لَهُۥ بُنْيَٰنًۭا فَأَلْقُوهُ فِى ٱلْجَحِيمِ فَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ كَيْدًۭا فَجَعَلْنَٰهُمُ ٱلْأَسْفَلِينَ

And he said: "I am going to my Guardian; He will guide me. 99

وَقَالَ إِنِّى ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّى سَيَهْدِينِ

My Guardian, grant me [a child] among the righteous." 100

رَبِّ هَبْ لِى مِنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ

So We gave him the good news of a reflective boy.i 101

فَبَشَّرْنَٰهُ بِغُلَٰمٍ حَلِيمٍۢ

And when he reached the age of walking with him, he said: "O my son, I see in a dream that I am sacrificing you; consider, then, what you think." 102

فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ ٱلسَّعْىَ قَالَ يَٰبُنَىَّ إِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰ فِى ٱلْمَنَامِ أَنِّىٓ أَذْبَحُكَ فَٱنظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَىٰ

He said: "O my father, do what you are commanded; 102

قَالَ يَٰٓأَبَتِ ٱفْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ

you will find me, if God wills, among the steadfast." 102

سَتَجِدُنِىٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ

And when both of them had rendered themselves integral toward God, and he had laid him down on his forehead, We called out to him: "O Ibrahim, you have indeed confirmed the vision."i 105

فَلَمَّآ أَسْلَمَا وَتَلَّهُۥ لِلْجَبِينِ وَنَٰدَيْنَٰهُ أَن يَٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُ قَدْ صَدَّقْتَ ٱلرُّءْيَآ

السوسي

This is how We reward those who excel [in good]. 105

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

This was indeed the manifest trial. 106

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْبَلَٰٓؤُا۟ ٱلْمُبِينُ

And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice. 107

وَفَدَيْنَٰهُ بِذِبْحٍ عَظِيمٍۢ

And We left upon him, among later generations: 108

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْءَاخِرِينَ

"Peace upon Ibrahim!"i 109

سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

This is how We reward those who excel [in good]. 110

كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

He was among Our believing obedient ones. 111

إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

And We gave him the good news of Ishaq, a prophet among the righteous, and We blessed him and Ishaq.i 113

وَبَشَّرْنَٰهُ بِإِسْحَٰقَ نَبِيًّۭا مِّنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ وَبَٰرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَىٰٓ إِسْحَٰقَ

And among their offspring is one who excels [in good], and one who is manifestly unjust toward his own Self. 113

وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحْسِنٌۭ وَظَالِمٌۭ لِّنَفْسِهِۦ مُبِينٌۭ

And We indeed favored Moussa and Harun, and saved them and their people from the great distress;i 115

وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُمَا وَقَوْمَهُمَا مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

We aided them, and they were the ones who prevailed. 116

وَنَصَرْنَٰهُمْ فَكَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْغَٰلِبِينَ

And We gave them both the clear Scripture,i 117

وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُمَا ٱلْكِتَٰبَ ٱلْمُسْتَبِينَ

and We guided them both to the straight path. 118

وَهَدَيْنَٰهُمَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ

And We left upon them both, among later generations: 119

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِمَا فِى ٱلْءَاخِرِينَ

"Peace upon Moussa and Harun!"i 120

سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ

This is how We reward those who excel [in good]. 121

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

They were both among Our believing obedient ones. 122

إِنَّهُمَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

And Elias was indeed among the messengers, when he said to his people: "Will you not guard yourselves? Do you call upon Ba'l, forsaking the best of creators,i 125

وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ أَتَدْعُونَ بَعْلًۭا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحْسَنَ ٱلْخَٰلِقِينَ

God, your Guardian and the Guardian of your earliest forefathers?" 126

ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمْ وَرَبَّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

But they denied him; so they will indeed be among those brought forth [for punishment] — except the purified obedient ones of God. 128

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

And We left upon him, among later generations: 129

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْءَاخِرِينَ

"Peace upon Ilyasin!"i 130

سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِلْ يَاسِينَ

This is how We reward those who excel [in good]. 131

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

He was among Our believing obedient ones. 132

إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

And Lut was indeed among the messengers, when We saved him and his household, all of them, except an old woman among those left behind; then We destroyed the others.i 136

وَإِنَّ لُوطًۭا لَّمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ إِذْ نَجَّيْنَٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَ إِلَّا عَجُوزًۭا فِى ٱلْغَٰبِرِينَ ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا ٱلْءَاخَرِينَ

And you indeed pass by them in the morning, 138

وَإِنَّكُمْ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهِم مُّصْبِحِينَ وَبِٱلَّيْلِ

and at night — do you not reason? 138

أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ

And Younes was indeed among the messengers, when he fled to the laden ship; he took part in the drawing of lots, and was among those who lost; then the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy.i 142

وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ إِذْ أَبَقَ إِلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِ فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُدْحَضِينَ فَٱلْتَقَمَهُ ٱلْحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌۭ

Had he not been among those who glorify, he would indeed have remained in its belly until the day they are resurrected. 144

فَلَوْلَآ أَنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُسَبِّحِينَ لَلَبِثَ فِى بَطْنِهِۦٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ

So We cast him onto a bare shore, while he was unwell, 145

فَنَبَذْنَٰهُ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌۭ

and We caused a soft, cotton-like plant to grow over him.i 146

وَأَنۢبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةًۭ مِّن يَقْطِينٍۢ

We then sent him to a hundred thousand [people], or more, 147

وَأَرْسَلْنَٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِا۟ئَةِ أَلْفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُونَ

and they believed; so We let them enjoy [life] for a while. 148

فَـَٔامَنُوا۟ فَمَتَّعْنَٰهُمْ إِلَىٰ حِينٍۢ

Ask them then: does your Guardian have daughters, while they have sons? 149

فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَلِرَبِّكَ ٱلْبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ ٱلْبَنُونَ

Or did We create the Agents female, while they witnessed it?i 150

أَمْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ إِنَٰثًۭا وَهُمْ شَٰهِدُونَ

Is it not that, out of their own falsehood, they say: "God has begotten"? They are indeed liars. 152

أَلَآ إِنَّهُم مِّنْ إِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَ وَلَدَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَٰذِبُونَ

Would He have preferred daughters over sons? 153

أَصْطَفَى ٱلْبَنَاتِ عَلَى ٱلْبَنِينَ

What is wrong with you? 154

مَا لَكُمْ

How do you judge in this way? 154

كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ

Will you not then take heed? 155

أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ

Or do you have a clear authority? Then bring your book, if you are truthful.i 157

أَمْ لَكُمْ سُلْطَٰنٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ فَأْتُوا۟ بِكِتَٰبِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ

And they have set up a kinship between Him and the Occulted;i 158

وَجَعَلُوا۟ بَيْنَهُۥ وَبَيْنَ ٱلْجِنَّةِ نَسَبًۭا

and these entities well know that they themselves will indeed be brought forth [for punishment] — 158

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَتِ ٱلْجِنَّةُ إِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ

glory be to God, above what they describe! 159

سُبْحَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ

Except the purified obedient ones of God. 160

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

Neither you, nor what you obey, can lead anyone astray against Him, except him who is destined to burn in the Blaze. 163

فَإِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مَآ أَنتُمْ عَلَيْهِ بِفَٰتِنِينَ إِلَّا مَنْ هُوَ صَالِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

"There is not one among us who does not have a known place, 164

وَمَا مِنَّآ إِلَّا لَهُۥ مَقَامٌۭ مَّعْلُومٌۭ

and we are indeed those who stand in ranks, and we are indeed those who glorify." 166

وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلصَّآفُّونَ وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلْمُسَبِّحُونَ

And they indeed used to say: "If only we had a reminder from the earlier peoples, we would have been the purified obedient ones of God." 169

وَإِن كَانُوا۟ لَيَقُولُونَ لَوْ أَنَّ عِندَنَا ذِكْرًۭا مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

But they denied [it] when it came; 170

فَكَفَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ

they will soon know. 170

فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ

And Our word has indeed gone forth in favor of Our messengers, the obedient ones: they are indeed the ones who are helped, and it is indeed Our army that prevails. 173

وَلَقَدْ سَبَقَتْ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ إِنَّهُمْ لَهُمُ ٱلْمَنصُورُونَ وَإِنَّ جُندَنَا لَهُمُ ٱلْغَٰلِبُونَ

So turn away from them for a while, 174

فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍۢ

and watch them: they will soon see. 175

وَأَبْصِرْهُمْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ

Is it Our punishment that they seek to hasten? 176

أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

When it descends into their courtyard, how evil will be the morning of those who were warned! 177

فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمْ فَسَآءَ صَبَاحُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ

So turn away from them for a while, 178

وَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍۢ

and watch: they will soon see. 179

وَأَبْصِرْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ

Glory be to your Guardian, the Guardian of might, above what they describe! 180

سُبْحَٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ ٱلْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ

And peace upon the messengers! 181

وَسَلَٰمٌ عَلَى ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

And praise be to God, Guardian of all beings! 182

وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
