Sourate Az-Zumar (39) vowelled

In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. The descent of the Scripture comes from God, the All-Powerful, the All-Wise.i 1

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ تَنزِيلُ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ

We have sent down to you the Scripture in truth; so obey God, devoting the Law exclusively to Him.i 2

إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَٱعْبُدِ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصًۭا لَّهُ ٱلدِّينَ

In truth, the pure and exclusive Law belongs to God.i 3

أَلَا لِلَّهِ ٱلدِّينُ ٱلْخَالِصُ

And those who take protectors besides Him [say]: "We only obey them so that they may bring us nearer to God"; 3

وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ أَوْلِيَآءَ مَا نَعْبُدُهُمْ إِلَّا لِيُقَرِّبُونَآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ زُلْفَىٰٓ

God will judge between them concerning that in which they differ. 3

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَهُمْ فِى مَا هُمْ فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ

God does not guide one who is a liar, a great denier [of the truth].i 3

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِى مَنْ هُوَ كَٰذِبٌۭ كَفَّارٌۭ

Had God wanted to take a child, He would have chosen what He wills from what He creates; 4

لَّوْ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ أَن يَتَّخِذَ وَلَدًۭا لَّٱصْطَفَىٰ مِمَّا يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُ

glory be to Him — 4

سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ

He is God, the One, the Overpowering. 4

هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْوَٰحِدُ ٱلْقَهَّارُ

He created the heavens and the earth in truth; 5

خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ بِٱلْحَقِّ

He wraps the night around the day, and wraps the day around the night; 5

يُكَوِّرُ ٱلَّيْلَ عَلَى ٱلنَّهَارِ وَيُكَوِّرُ ٱلنَّهَارَ عَلَى ٱلَّيْلِ

He has subjected the sun and the moon, 5

وَسَخَّرَ ٱلشَّمْسَ وَٱلْقَمَرَ

each running to an appointed term. 5

كُلٌّۭ يَجْرِى لِأَجَلٍۢ مُّسَمًّى

Is He not the All-Powerful, the Great Forgiver?i 5

أَلَا هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْغَفَّٰرُ

He created you from a single Self, then brought forth from it its spouse;i 6

خَلَقَكُم مِّن نَّفْسٍۢ وَٰحِدَةٍۢ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا

and He sent down for you, among the livestock, eight pairs; 6

وَأَنزَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ ثَمَٰنِيَةَ أَزْوَٰجٍۢ

He creates you in the wombs of your mothers, creation after creation, in three darknesses; 6

يَخْلُقُكُمْ فِى بُطُونِ أُمَّهَٰتِكُمْ خَلْقًۭا مِّنۢ بَعْدِ خَلْقٍۢ فِى ظُلُمَٰتٍۢ ثَلَٰثٍۢ

that is God, your Guardian; to Him belongs the dominion; 6

ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمْ لَهُ ٱلْمُلْكُ

there is no god but Him; 6

لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ

how then are you turned away? 6

فَأَنَّىٰ تُصْرَفُونَ

If you deny, God has no need of you;i 7

إِن تَكْفُرُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَنِىٌّ عَنكُمْ

and He does not approve of denial for His obedient ones;i 7

وَلَا يَرْضَىٰ لِعِبَادِهِ ٱلْكُفْرَ

but if you are grateful, He approves it for you. 7

وَإِن تَشْكُرُوا۟ يَرْضَهُ لَكُمْ

No bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another; 7

وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌۭ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ

then to your Guardian is your return, and He will inform you of what you used to do. 7

ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُم مَّرْجِعُكُمْ فَيُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

He knows what is in the chests.i 7

إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ

When harm touches the human being, he calls upon his Guardian, turning back to Him; 8

وَإِذَا مَسَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ ضُرٌّۭ دَعَا رَبَّهُۥ مُنِيبًا إِلَيْهِ

then, when He grants him a favor from Himself, he forgets what he used to call upon before, and sets up equals to God, to lead astray from His path. 8

ثُمَّ إِذَا خَوَّلَهُۥ نِعْمَةًۭ مِّنْهُ نَسِىَ مَا كَانَ يَدْعُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ مِن قَبْلُ وَجَعَلَ لِلَّهِ أَندَادًۭا لِّيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ

Say: "Enjoy your denial a little; you are indeed among the companions of the Fire."i 8

قُلْ تَمَتَّعْ بِكُفْرِكَ قَلِيلًا إِنَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَٰبِ ٱلنَّارِ

He who is devoted through the hours of the night, prostrating and standing, fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the benevolence of his Guardian — 9

أَمَّنْ هُوَ قَٰنِتٌ ءَانَآءَ ٱلَّيْلِ سَاجِدًۭا وَقَآئِمًۭا يَحْذَرُ ٱلْءَاخِرَةَ وَيَرْجُوا۟ رَحْمَةَ رَبِّهِۦ

say: "Are those who know equal to those who do not know?" 9

قُلْ هَلْ يَسْتَوِى ٱلَّذِينَ يَعْلَمُونَ وَٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

Only those endowed with reason take heed. 9

إِنَّمَا يَتَذَكَّرُ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ

Say: "O My obedient ones who believe, be mindful of your Guardian; 10

قُلْ يَٰعِبَادِ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّقُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ

for those who do good in the present life there is a fine share; 10

لِلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ فِى هَٰذِهِ ٱلدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةٌۭ

and God's earth is vast; 10

وَأَرْضُ ٱللَّهِ وَٰسِعَةٌ

the patient will be given their reward in full, without count. 10

إِنَّمَا يُوَفَّى ٱلصَّٰبِرُونَ أَجْرَهُم بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍۢ

Say: "I have been commanded to obey God, devoting the Law exclusively to Him, and I have been commanded to be the first of those true to Him alone."i 12

قُلْ إِنِّىٓ أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصًۭا لَّهُ ٱلدِّينَ وَأُمِرْتُ لِأَنْ أَكُونَ أَوَّلَ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ

Say: "I fear, should I disobey my Guardian, the punishment of a tremendous day." 13

قُلْ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ إِنْ عَصَيْتُ رَبِّى عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍۢ

Say: "It is God I obey, devoting my Law exclusively to Him;i 14

قُلِ ٱللَّهَ أَعْبُدُ مُخْلِصًۭا لَّهُۥ دِينِى

so obey whatever you wish besides Him." 15

فَٱعْبُدُوا۟ مَا شِئْتُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ

Say: "The losers are those who will have lost themselves and their families on the Day of Appearance;i 15

قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْخَٰسِرِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَأَهْلِيهِمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ

is that not the manifest loss?" 15

أَلَا ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْخُسْرَانُ ٱلْمُبِينُ

They will have, above them, canopies of fire, and beneath them, likewise; 16

لَهُم مِّن فَوْقِهِمْ ظُلَلٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلنَّارِ وَمِن تَحْتِهِمْ ظُلَلٌۭ

it is by this that God frightens His obedient ones: 16

ذَٰلِكَ يُخَوِّفُ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦ عِبَادَهُۥ

"O My obedient ones, be mindful of Me!" 16

يَٰعِبَادِ فَٱتَّقُونِ

And those who avoid obeying the Tyrant, and turn back to God, will have the good news.i 17

وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱجْتَنَبُوا۟ ٱلطَّٰغُوتَ أَن يَعْبُدُوهَا وَأَنَابُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ لَهُمُ ٱلْبُشْرَىٰ

So give good news to My obedient ones who listen to the word and follow the best of it; 18

فَبَشِّرْ عِبَادِ ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْتَمِعُونَ ٱلْقَوْلَ فَيَتَّبِعُونَ أَحْسَنَهُۥٓ

those are the ones God has guided, 18

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ هَدَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ

and those are the ones endowed with reason. 18

وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمْ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ

He against whom the word of punishment has been fulfilled — will you save him who is in the Fire? 19

أَفَمَنْ حَقَّ عَلَيْهِ كَلِمَةُ ٱلْعَذَابِ أَفَأَنتَ تُنقِذُ مَن فِى ٱلنَّارِ

But those who were mindful of their Guardian will have high chambers, above which other chambers are built, beneath which rivers flow; 20

لَٰكِنِ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوْا۟ رَبَّهُمْ لَهُمْ غُرَفٌۭ مِّن فَوْقِهَا غُرَفٌۭ مَّبْنِيَّةٌۭ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ

a promise of God — 20

وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ

God does not fail His promise. 20

لَا يُخْلِفُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمِيعَادَ

Have you not seen that God sends down water from the sky, and channels it as springs in the earth, then brings forth with it crops of varying colors; then they wither, and you see them yellowed; then He turns them to debris? 21

أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ أَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۭ فَسَلَكَهُۥ يَنَٰبِيعَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ يُخْرِجُ بِهِۦ زَرْعًۭا مُّخْتَلِفًا أَلْوَٰنُهُۥ ثُمَّ يَهِيجُ فَتَرَىٰهُ مُصْفَرًّۭا ثُمَّ يَجْعَلُهُۥ حُطَٰمًا

There is indeed in that a reminder for those endowed with reason. 21

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَذِكْرَىٰ لِأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ

He whose chest God has opened to true adherence [to Him], so that he is upon a light from his Guardian —i 22

أَفَمَن شَرَحَ ٱللَّهُ صَدْرَهُۥ لِلْإِسْلَٰمِ فَهُوَ عَلَىٰ نُورٍۢ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ

so woe to those whose cores are hardened against the remembrance of God!i 22

فَوَيْلٌۭ لِّلْقَٰسِيَةِ قُلُوبُهُم مِّن ذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ

Those are in manifest error. 22

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ فِى ضَلَٰلٍۢ مُّبِينٍ

God has sent down the most beautiful of discourse, a Scripture of verses corresponding to one another, repeated in cycles,i 23

ٱللَّهُ نَزَّلَ أَحْسَنَ ٱلْحَدِيثِ كِتَٰبًۭا مُّتَشَٰبِهًۭا مَّثَانِىَ

at which the skins of those who fear their Guardian shiver; then their skins and their cores soften toward the remembrance of God;i 23

تَقْشَعِرُّ مِنْهُ جُلُودُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ ثُمَّ تَلِينُ جُلُودُهُمْ وَقُلُوبُهُمْ إِلَىٰ ذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ

that is the guidance of God, by which He guides whom He wills; 23

ذَٰلِكَ هُدَى ٱللَّهِ يَهْدِى بِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ

and whoever God sends astray has no guide. 23

وَمَن يُضْلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِنْ هَادٍ

He who shields himself with his face from the worst punishment on the Day of Appearance —i 24

أَفَمَن يَتَّقِى بِوَجْهِهِۦ سُوٓءَ ٱلْعَذَابِ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ

and it will be said to the wrongdoers: "Taste what you used to earn." 24

وَقِيلَ لِلظَّٰلِمِينَ ذُوقُوا۟ مَا كُنتُمْ تَكْسِبُونَ

Those before them denied, and the punishment came to them from where they did not perceive; 25

كَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَأَتَىٰهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ

God made them taste disgrace in the present life, 26

فَأَذَاقَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْخِزْىَ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا

and the punishment of the Hereafter is greater still, if only they knew. 26

وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ

We have certainly multiplied for mankind, in this recitation, every kind of example, that they may take heed — a flawless recitation, without the slightest crookedness, that they may be mindful.i 28

وَلَقَدْ ضَرَبْنَا لِلنَّاسِ فِى هَٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانِ مِن كُلِّ مَثَلٍۢ لَّعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ قُرْءَانًا عَرَبِيًّا غَيْرَ ذِى عِوَجٍۢ لَّعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ

God multiplies an example: a man belonging to quarrelling partners, and a man belonging wholly to one man —i 29

ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًۭا رَّجُلًۭا فِيهِ شُرَكَآءُ مُتَشَٰكِسُونَ وَرَجُلًۭا سَلَمًۭا لِّرَجُلٍ

البزي قنبل الدوري السوسي

are they equal, as an example? 29

هَلْ يَسْتَوِيَانِ مَثَلًا

Praise belongs to God! 29

ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

But most of them do not know. 29

بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

You will die, and they will die; then, on the Day of Appearance, you will dispute before your Guardian.i 31

إِنَّكَ مَيِّتٌۭ وَإِنَّهُم مَّيِّتُونَ ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ عِندَ رَبِّكُمْ تَخْتَصِمُونَ

Who then is more unjust than one who lies about God and denies the truth when it has come to him? 32

فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّن كَذَبَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلصِّدْقِ إِذْ جَآءَهُۥٓ

Is there not, in Jahannam, a dwelling for those who deny?i 32

أَلَيْسَ فِى جَهَنَّمَ مَثْوًۭى لِّلْكَٰفِرِينَ

And he who came with the truth, and confirmed it, those are the ones who are mindful [of God]. 33

وَٱلَّذِى جَآءَ بِٱلصِّدْقِ وَصَدَّقَ بِهِۦٓ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ

They will have whatever they wish, with their Guardian; 34

لَهُم مَّا يَشَآءُونَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ

such is the reward of those who do good: God covers for them the worst of what they did, and repays them according to the best of what they used to do.i 35

ذَٰلِكَ جَزَآءُ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ لِيُكَفِّرَ ٱللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ أَسْوَأَ ٱلَّذِى عَمِلُوا۟ وَيَجْزِيَهُمْ أَجْرَهُم بِأَحْسَنِ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ

ورش قالون

Is God not sufficient for His obedient one? 36

أَلَيْسَ ٱللَّهُ بِكَافٍ عَبْدَهُۥ

They seek to frighten you with those they obey besides Him; 36

وَيُخَوِّفُونَكَ بِٱلَّذِينَ مِن دُونِهِۦ

and whoever God sends astray has no guide. 36

وَمَن يُضْلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِنْ هَادٍۢ

And whoever God guides has no one to lead him astray; 37

وَمَن يَهْدِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن مُّضِلٍّ

is God not All-Mighty, possessor of retribution? 37

أَلَيْسَ ٱللَّهُ بِعَزِيزٍۢ ذِى ٱنتِقَامٍۢ

And if you ask them who created the heavens and the earth, they will surely say: "God"; 38

وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّنْ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ لَيَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُ

say: "Have you considered, then, what you invoke besides God? If God willed harm for me, could they remove His harm? Or if He willed benevolence for me, could they withhold His benevolence?" 38

قُلْ أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ إِنْ أَرَادَنِىَ ٱللَّهُ بِضُرٍّ هَلْ هُنَّ كَٰشِفَٰتُ ضُرِّهِۦٓ أَوْ أَرَادَنِى بِرَحْمَةٍ هَلْ هُنَّ مُمْسِكَٰتُ رَحْمَتِهِۦ

Say: "God is sufficient for me; 38

قُلْ حَسْبِىَ ٱللَّهُ

it is Him that those who take a trustee take as their trustee."i 38

عَلَيْهِ يَتَوَكَّلُ ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ

Say: "O my people, act according to your position; I am acting [according to mine]; 39

قُلْ يَٰقَوْمِ ٱعْمَلُوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِكُمْ إِنِّى عَٰمِلٌۭ

شعبة

you will soon know upon whom a punishment will fall that disgraces him, and upon whom a lasting punishment will settle." 40

فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ مَن يَأْتِيهِ عَذَابٌۭ يُخْزِيهِ وَيَحِلُّ عَلَيْهِ عَذَابٌۭ مُّقِيمٌ

We have sent down to you the Scripture for mankind, in truth;i 41

إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ لِلنَّاسِ بِٱلْحَقِّ

whoever is guided, it is for his own Self;i 41

فَمَنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ فَلِنَفْسِهِۦ

and whoever strays, strays only against his own Self;i 41

وَمَن ضَلَّ فَإِنَّمَا يَضِلُّ عَلَيْهَا

and you are not a trustee over them.i 41

وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيْهِم بِوَكِيلٍ

God takes back the Selves at the time of their death, and those that have not died, during their sleep;i 42

ٱللَّهُ يَتَوَفَّى ٱلْأَنفُسَ حِينَ مَوْتِهَا وَٱلَّتِى لَمْ تَمُتْ فِى مَنَامِهَا

He retains those for whom He has decreed death, and sends back the others until an appointed term; 42

فَيُمْسِكُ ٱلَّتِى قَضَىٰ عَلَيْهَا ٱلْمَوْتَ وَيُرْسِلُ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍۢ مُّسَمًّى

there is indeed in that signs for a people who reflect. 42

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍۢ لِّقَوْمٍۢ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

Have they taken intercessors besides God? 43

أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ شُفَعَآءَ

Say: "Even though they have no power over anything and do not reason?" 43

قُلْ أَوَلَوْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ شَيْـًۭٔا وَلَا يَعْقِلُونَ

Say: "Intercession belongs entirely to God; 44

قُل لِّلَّهِ ٱلشَّفَٰعَةُ جَمِيعًۭا

to Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; 44

لَّهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ

then to Him you will be returned." 44

ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ

And when God alone is mentioned, the cores of those who do not believe in the Hereafter shrink with revulsion; 45

وَإِذَا ذُكِرَ ٱللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ ٱشْمَأَزَّتْ قُلُوبُ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْءَاخِرَةِ

but when those they obey besides Him are mentioned, at once they rejoice. 45

وَإِذَا ذُكِرَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ إِذَا هُمْ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ

Say: "O God, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of what escapes our presence and of what is manifest, You alone will judge between Your obedient ones concerning that in which they used to differ."i 46

قُلِ ٱللَّهُمَّ فَاطِرَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ عَٰلِمَ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَٰدَةِ أَنتَ تَحْكُمُ بَيْنَ عِبَادِكَ فِى مَا كَانُوا۟ فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ

If those who did wrong possessed all that is on earth, and its like besides, they would offer it as ransom from the worst punishment on the Day of Appearance;i 47

وَلَوْ أَنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًۭا وَمِثْلَهُۥ مَعَهُۥ لَٱفْتَدَوْا۟ بِهِۦ مِن سُوٓءِ ٱلْعَذَابِ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ

and there will appear to them, from God, what they had not accounted for. 47

وَبَدَا لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَمْ يَكُونُوا۟ يَحْتَسِبُونَ

The evil consequences of what they earned will appear to them, 48

وَبَدَا لَهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتُ مَا كَسَبُوا۟

and what they used to mock will envelop them. 48

وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ

When harm touches the human being, he calls upon Us; then, when We grant him a favor from Us, he says: "This was only given to me because of some knowledge [I possess]." 49

فَإِذَا مَسَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ ضُرٌّۭ دَعَانَا ثُمَّ إِذَا خَوَّلْنَٰهُ نِعْمَةًۭ مِّنَّا قَالَ إِنَّمَآ أُوتِيتُهُۥ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍۭ

Rather, it is a trial, 49

بَلْ هِىَ فِتْنَةٌۭ

but most of them do not know. 49

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

Those before them said the same thing, and what they used to earn availed them nothing. 50

قَدْ قَالَهَا ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ

The evil consequences of what they earned struck them; 51

فَأَصَابَهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتُ مَا كَسَبُوا۟

and those among these who do wrong will be struck by the evil consequences of what they earn, and they will not escape. 51

وَٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مِنْ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ سَيُصِيبُهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتُ مَا كَسَبُوا۟ وَمَا هُم بِمُعْجِزِينَ

Do they not know that God extends provision for whom He wills, and restricts it? 52

أَوَلَمْ يَعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَبْسُطُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَقْدِرُ

السوسي

There is indeed in that signs for a people who believe. 52

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍۢ لِّقَوْمٍۢ يُؤْمِنُونَ

Say: "O My obedient ones who have been excessive against yourselves, do not despair of the benevolence of God;i 53

قُلْ يَٰعِبَادِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا۟ مِن رَّحْمَةِ ٱللَّهِ

God forgives all wrongs; 53

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ ٱلذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا

He is the All-Forgiving, the Benevolent." 53

إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

Turn back to your Guardian, and be true to Him alone, before the punishment comes to you; then you will not be helped.i 54

وَأَنِيبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمْ وَأَسْلِمُوا۟ لَهُۥ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَكُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ ثُمَّ لَا تُنصَرُونَ

And follow the best of what has been sent down to you from your Guardian, before the punishment comes to you suddenly, without your realizing it — lest a Self should say: "What regret, for having neglected my duty toward God, and for having been among the mockers!" or should say: "Had God guided me, I would have been among those who are mindful"; or should say, upon seeing the punishment: "If only I had another chance, I would be among those who do good."i 58

وَٱتَّبِعُوٓا۟ أَحْسَنَ مَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُم مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَكُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ بَغْتَةًۭ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَشْعُرُونَ أَن تَقُولَ نَفْسٌۭ يَٰحَسْرَتَىٰ عَلَىٰ مَا فَرَّطتُ فِى جَنۢبِ ٱللَّهِ وَإِن كُنتُ لَمِنَ ٱلسَّٰخِرِينَ أَوْ تَقُولَ لَوْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هَدَىٰنِى لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ أَوْ تَقُولَ حِينَ تَرَى ٱلْعَذَابَ لَوْ أَنَّ لِى كَرَّةًۭ فَأَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

Indeed! My signs certainly came to you, but you denied them, grew arrogant, and were among those who deny.i 59

بَلَىٰ قَدْ جَآءَتْكَ ءَايَٰتِى فَكَذَّبْتَ بِهَا وَٱسْتَكْبَرْتَ وَكُنتَ مِنَ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

And on the Day of Appearance, you will see those who lied about God, their faces blackened.i 60

وَيَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ تَرَى ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَبُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ وُجُوهُهُم مُّسْوَدَّةٌ

Is there not, in Jahannam, a dwelling for the arrogant? 60

أَلَيْسَ فِى جَهَنَّمَ مَثْوًۭى لِّلْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ

And God saves those who were mindful, by their triumph; no harm will touch them, nor will they grieve. 61

وَيُنَجِّى ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوْا۟ بِمَفَازَتِهِمْ لَا يَمَسُّهُمُ ٱلسُّوٓءُ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

شعبة

God is the creator of all things; 62

ٱللَّهُ خَٰلِقُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ

and He is, over all things, a trustee.i 62

وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ وَكِيلٌۭ

To Him belong the charges of the heavens and the earth; 63

لَّهُۥ مَقَالِيدُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and those who deny the signs of God, those are the losers.i 63

وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْخَٰسِرُونَ

Say: "Do you then command me to obey other than God, O ignorant ones?" 64

قُلْ أَفَغَيْرَ ٱللَّهِ تَأْمُرُوٓنِّىٓ أَعْبُدُ أَيُّهَا ٱلْجَٰهِلُونَ

It has certainly been revealed to you, and to those before you: "If you associate, your work will surely come to nothing, and you will surely be among the losers." 65

وَلَقَدْ أُوحِىَ إِلَيْكَ وَإِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكَ لَئِنْ أَشْرَكْتَ لَيَحْبَطَنَّ عَمَلُكَ وَلَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْخَٰسِرِينَ

So obey God, and be among the grateful. 66

بَلِ ٱللَّهَ فَٱعْبُدْ وَكُن مِّنَ ٱلشَّٰكِرِينَ

They did not measure God with His true measure; the whole earth will be in His grasp on the Day of Appearance, and the heavens will be folded in His right hand.i 67

وَمَا قَدَرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِۦ وَٱلْأَرْضُ جَمِيعًۭا قَبْضَتُهُۥ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ وَٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتُ مَطْوِيَّٰتٌۢ بِيَمِينِهِۦ

Glory be to Him! He is far above what they associate. 67

سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ

The trumpet will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will collapse, thunderstruck, except whom God wills; 68

وَنُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَصَعِقَ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ إِلَّا مَن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ

then it will be blown a second time, and at once they will stand up, looking on. 68

ثُمَّ نُفِخَ فِيهِ أُخْرَىٰ فَإِذَا هُمْ قِيَامٌۭ يَنظُرُونَ

The earth will shine with the light of its Guardian; the record will be set down; the prophets and the witnesses will be brought forward; it will be judged between them in truth, and they will not be wronged.i 69

وَأَشْرَقَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ بِنُورِ رَبِّهَا وَوُضِعَ ٱلْكِتَٰبُ وَجِا۟ىٓءَ بِٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ وَٱلشُّهَدَآءِ وَقُضِىَ بَيْنَهُم بِٱلْحَقِّ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ

قالون

Every Self will be paid in full for what it did, and He knows best what they do. 70

وَوُفِّيَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ مَّا عَمِلَتْ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَفْعَلُونَ

Those who deny will be driven toward Jahannam, in troops,i 71

وَسِيقَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ جَهَنَّمَ زُمَرًا

until, when they reach it, its gates will open, and its keepers will say to them: "Did messengers from among you not come to you, reciting to you the signs of your Guardian and warning you of the meeting of this your day?" 71

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءُوهَا فُتِحَتْ أَبْوَٰبُهَا وَقَالَ لَهُمْ خَزَنَتُهَآ أَلَمْ يَأْتِكُمْ رُسُلٌۭ مِّنكُمْ يَتْلُونَ عَلَيْكُمْ ءَايَٰتِ رَبِّكُمْ وَيُنذِرُونَكُمْ لِقَآءَ يَوْمِكُمْ هَٰذَا

They will say: "Indeed!" but the word of punishment will have been fulfilled against those who denied.i 71

قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ وَلَٰكِنْ حَقَّتْ كَلِمَةُ ٱلْعَذَابِ عَلَى ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

It will be said: "Enter the gates of Jahannam, to remain therein forever." 72

قِيلَ ٱدْخُلُوٓا۟ أَبْوَٰبَ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا

How wretched is the dwelling of the arrogant! 72

فَبِئْسَ مَثْوَى ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ

And those who were mindful of their Guardian will be led toward the Garden, in troops, 73

وَسِيقَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوْا۟ رَبَّهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْجَنَّةِ زُمَرًا

until, when they reach it, and its gates open, its keepers will say to them: "Peace be upon you, you have been good — enter it, to remain therein forever." 73

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءُوهَا وَفُتِحَتْ أَبْوَٰبُهَا وَقَالَ لَهُمْ خَزَنَتُهَا سَلَٰمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ طِبْتُمْ فَٱدْخُلُوهَا خَٰلِدِينَ

They will say: "Praise belongs to God, who has kept His promise to us, and made us inherit the earth, that we may settle in the Garden wherever we wish; how excellent is the reward of those who work!" 74

وَقَالُوا۟ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى صَدَقَنَا وَعْدَهُۥ وَأَوْرَثَنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ نَتَبَوَّأُ مِنَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ حَيْثُ نَشَآءُ فَنِعْمَ أَجْرُ ٱلْعَٰمِلِينَ

And you will see the Agents surrounding the Edifice, glorifying their Guardian with praise;i 75

وَتَرَى ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ حَآفِّينَ مِنْ حَوْلِ ٱلْعَرْشِ يُسَبِّحُونَ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّهِمْ

it will be judged between them in truth, 75

وَقُضِىَ بَيْنَهُم بِٱلْحَقِّ

and it will be said: "Praise belongs to God, Guardian of all beings."i 75

وَقِيلَ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
