Sourate Qaf (50) vowelled

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Benevolent. Qaf.i 1

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ قٓ

By the glorious Recitation! They marveled instead that a warner, one of their own, had come to them. Those who deny said: "This is a strange thing. When we are dead and become earth...? That return is far-fetched."i 3

وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ٱلْمَجِيدِ بَلْ عَجِبُوٓا۟ أَن جَآءَهُم مُّنذِرٌۭ مِّنْهُمْ فَقَالَ ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا شَىْءٌ عَجِيبٌ أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًۭا ذَٰلِكَ رَجْعٌۢ بَعِيدٌۭ

We know what the earth diminishes of them, and We have a record that keeps everything.i 4

قَدْ عَلِمْنَا مَا تَنقُصُ ٱلْأَرْضُ مِنْهُمْ وَعِندَنَا كِتَٰبٌ حَفِيظٌۢ

They rather denied the truth when it came to them; so they are in a confused state. 5

بَلْ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ فَهُمْ فِىٓ أَمْرٍۢ مَّرِيجٍ

Have they not looked at the sky above them: how We built it and adorned it, without a single crack in it? 6

أَفَلَمْ يَنظُرُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَوْقَهُمْ كَيْفَ بَنَيْنَٰهَا وَزَيَّنَّٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجٍۢ

And the earth, We spread it out, placed firm anchors in it, and caused every kind of splendid pair to grow in it — a means of insight and a reminder for every repentant the obedient one. 8

وَٱلْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍۭ بَهِيجٍۢ تَبْصِرَةًۭ وَذِكْرَىٰ لِكُلِّ عَبْدٍۢ مُّنِيبٍۢ

And We sent down from the sky a blessed water, by which We caused gardens to grow, and the grain of harvest, and the tall palm trees with layered clusters, as sustenance for the obedient ones. 11

وَنَزَّلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۭ مُّبَٰرَكًۭا فَأَنۢبَتْنَا بِهِۦ جَنَّٰتٍۢ وَحَبَّ ٱلْحَصِيدِ وَٱلنَّخْلَ بَاسِقَٰتٍۢ لَّهَا طَلْعٌۭ نَّضِيدٌۭ رِّزْقًۭا لِّلْعِبَادِ

And by it We gave life to a dead land. 11

وَأَحْيَيْنَا بِهِۦ بَلْدَةًۭ مَّيْتًۭا

Such will be the coming forth [from the earth]. 11

كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْخُرُوجُ

Before them, the people of Nuh denied, as did the people of the Well, Thamud, the Recidivists [Aad], Fir'awn, the brothers of Lut, the people of the Thicket, and the people of Tubba'.i 14

كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍۢ وَأَصْحَٰبُ ٱلرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُ وَعَادٌۭ وَفِرْعَوْنُ وَإِخْوَٰنُ لُوطٍۢ وَأَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْأَيْكَةِ وَقَوْمُ تُبَّعٍۢ

All of them denied the messengers, and My threat proved true. 14

كُلٌّۭ كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ وَعِيدِ

Were We then exhausted by the first creation? 15

أَفَعَيِينَا بِٱلْخَلْقِ ٱلْأَوَّلِ

They are rather in confusion about a new creation. 15

بَلْ هُمْ فِى لَبْسٍۢ مِّنْ خَلْقٍۢ جَدِيدٍۢ

We have indeed created the human being, and We know what his [own] Self whispers to him; and We are closer to him than the jugular vein. 16

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ وَنَعْلَمُ مَا تُوَسْوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفْسُهُۥ وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَبْلِ ٱلْوَرِيدِ

When the two receivers receive, one on the right, one on the left, seated.i 17

إِذْ يَتَلَقَّى ٱلْمُتَلَقِّيَانِ عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ قَعِيدٌۭ

He does not utter a word without an observer, ready [to record], being at his side. 18

مَّا يَلْفِظُ مِن قَوْلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٌۭ

And the agony of death has come with the truth: 19

وَجَآءَتْ سَكْرَةُ ٱلْمَوْتِ بِٱلْحَقِّ

This is what you used to turn away from. 19

ذَٰلِكَ مَا كُنتَ مِنْهُ تَحِيدُ

And the Trumpet will be blown: 20

وَنُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ

this is the Day of the Threat. 20

ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْوَعِيدِ

And every Self will come, accompanied by a driver and a witness. 21

وَجَآءَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ مَّعَهَا سَآئِقٌۭ وَشَهِيدٌۭ

You were indeed heedless of this; so We removed your veil, and your sight today is piercing. 22

لَّقَدْ كُنتَ فِى غَفْلَةٍۢ مِّنْ هَٰذَا فَكَشَفْنَا عَنكَ غِطَآءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ ٱلْيَوْمَ حَدِيدٌۭ

And his companion will say: 'Here is what I have, ready [to present].' 23

وَقَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ هَٰذَا مَا لَدَىَّ عَتِيدٌ

Cast into Jahannam, both of you, every [being] who persistently denies, obstructive of good, an aggressor, a sower of doubt, who set up, alongside God, another deity — cast him then into the severe punishment.i 26

أَلْقِيَا فِى جَهَنَّمَ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ عَنِيدٍۢ مَّنَّاعٍۢ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍۢ مُّرِيبٍ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَأَلْقِيَاهُ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلشَّدِيدِ

His companion will say: 'Our Guardian, I did not make him transgress, but he was in deep error.' 27

قَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ رَبَّنَا مَآ أَطْغَيْتُهُۥ وَلَٰكِن كَانَ فِى ضَلَٰلٍۭ بَعِيدٍۢ

He will say: 'Do not dispute before Me, for I had already warned you with the threat.' 28

قَالَ لَا تَخْتَصِمُوا۟ لَدَىَّ وَقَدْ قَدَّمْتُ إِلَيْكُم بِٱلْوَعِيدِ

The word does not change with Me, and I am not unjust to the constrained at all. 29

مَا يُبَدَّلُ ٱلْقَوْلُ لَدَىَّ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ بِظَلَّٰمٍۢ لِّلْعَبِيدِ

The day We will say to Jahannam: 'Are you full?' and it will say: 'Is there more?'i 30

يَوْمَ نَقُولُ لِجَهَنَّمَ هَلِ ٱمْتَلَأْتِ وَتَقُولُ هَلْ مِن مَّزِيدٍۢ

ورش شعبة قالون

And the Garden will be brought near to the [people who are] mindful, not far off. 31

وَأُزْلِفَتِ ٱلْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ

This is what you are promised, for every repentant, watchful [being].i 32

هَٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِكُلِّ أَوَّابٍ حَفِيظٍۢ

البزي قنبل

Whoever feared the Most Gracious without seeing Him and came with a repentant core: "Enter it in peace."i 34

مَّنْ خَشِىَ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنَ بِٱلْغَيْبِ وَجَآءَ بِقَلْبٍۢ مُّنِيبٍ ٱدْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَٰمٍۢ

This is the Day of eternity. 34

ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْخُلُودِ

They will have therein what they wish, 35

لَهُم مَّا يَشَآءُونَ فِيهَا

and with Us there is even more. 35

وَلَدَيْنَا مَزِيدٌۭ

How many generations have We destroyed before them, mightier than them in strike, who had scoured the land [in every direction]! 36

وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّن قَرْنٍ هُمْ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُم بَطْشًۭا فَنَقَّبُوا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَٰدِ

Was there any escape? 36

هَلْ مِن مَّحِيصٍ

There is indeed a reminder in that for whoever has a core, or lends an ear while being present [of mind]. 37

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَذِكْرَىٰ لِمَن كَانَ لَهُۥ قَلْبٌ أَوْ أَلْقَى ٱلسَّمْعَ وَهُوَ شَهِيدٌۭ

We have indeed created the heavens and the earth, and what is between them, in six days, without any fatigue touching Us. 38

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍۢ وَمَا مَسَّنَا مِن لُّغُوبٍۢ

So be patient over what they say, 39

فَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ

and glorify, with praise, your Guardian, before the rising of the sun and before its setting, 39

وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ ٱلشَّمْسِ وَقَبْلَ ٱلْغُرُوبِ

and glorify Him during part of the night, and after the prostrations. 40

وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَأَدْبَٰرَ ٱلسُّجُودِ

And listen, the day the Caller will call from a near place, the day they will hear the Cry in all truth — 42

وَٱسْتَمِعْ يَوْمَ يُنَادِ ٱلْمُنَادِ مِن مَّكَانٍۢ قَرِيبٍۢ يَوْمَ يَسْمَعُونَ ٱلصَّيْحَةَ بِٱلْحَقِّ

this is the Day of the emergence. 42

ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْخُرُوجِ

It is We, indeed, who give life and cause death, and to Us is the final destination. 43

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَإِلَيْنَا ٱلْمَصِيرُ

The day the earth will split open from them, in haste — 44

يَوْمَ تَشَقَّقُ ٱلْأَرْضُ عَنْهُمْ سِرَاعًۭا

that is a gathering easy for Us. 44

ذَٰلِكَ حَشْرٌ عَلَيْنَا يَسِيرٌۭ

We know best what they say, 45

نَّحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ

and you have no compulsion to impose upon them. 45

وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيْهِم بِجَبَّارٍۢ

So remind, by the Recitation, whoever fears My threat. 45

فَذَكِّرْ بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ مَن يَخَافُ وَعِيدِ
