سورة 60
۞
Al-Mumtahana
-
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Benevolent. O you who believe! Do not take My enemy and your enemy as allies,i 1
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ عَدُوِّى وَعَدُوَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَآءَ -
showing them affection, while they have denied the truth that has come to you, 1
تُلْقُونَ إِلَيْهِم بِٱلْمَوَدَّةِ وَقَدْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِمَا جَآءَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْحَقِّ -
driving out the Messenger and yourselves, [only] because you believe in God, your Guardian. 1
يُخْرِجُونَ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَإِيَّاكُمْ أَن تُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ رَبِّكُمْ -
If you went forth to strive in My way and seek My pleasure, [do not ally with them] confiding your affection to them secretly, while I know best what you conceal and what you reveal. 1
إِن كُنتُمْ خَرَجْتُمْ جِهَٰدًۭا فِى سَبِيلِى وَٱبْتِغَآءَ مَرْضَاتِى تُسِرُّونَ إِلَيْهِم بِٱلْمَوَدَّةِ وَأَنَا۠ أَعْلَمُ بِمَآ أَخْفَيْتُمْ وَمَآ أَعْلَنتُمْ -
And whoever among you does this has strayed from the right path. 1
وَمَن يَفْعَلْهُ مِنكُمْ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ سَوَآءَ ٱلسَّبِيلِ -
If they gain the upper hand over you, they will be enemies to you, and extend against you their hands and their tongues with evil, 2
إِن يَثْقَفُوكُمْ يَكُونُوا۟ لَكُمْ أَعْدَآءًۭ وَيَبْسُطُوٓا۟ إِلَيْكُمْ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَلْسِنَتَهُم بِٱلسُّوٓءِ -
and they wish that you would deny. 2
وَوَدُّوا۟ لَوْ تَكْفُرُونَ -
Neither your kinship nor your children will benefit you at all — 3
لَن تَنفَعَكُمْ أَرْحَامُكُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَٰدُكُمْ -
on the Day of Appearance He will separate you.i 3
يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَكُمْ -
And God is Perfectly Seeing of what you do. 3
وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌۭ -
You have had a good example in Ibrahim and those with him, when they said to their people: We disavow you and what you obey besides God; we disown you, and there has appeared between us and you enmity and hatred forever, until you believe in God alone — except the saying of Ibrahim to his father: I will surely ask forgiveness for you, though I have no power for you against God.i 4
قَدْ كَانَتْ لَكُمْ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌۭ فِىٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥٓ إِذْ قَالُوا۟ لِقَوْمِهِمْ إِنَّا بُرَءَٰٓؤُا۟ مِنكُمْ وَمِمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَفَرْنَا بِكُمْ وَبَدَا بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْعَدَٰوَةُ وَٱلْبَغْضَآءُ أَبَدًا حَتَّىٰ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَحْدَهُۥٓ إِلَّا قَوْلَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ لِأَبِيهِ لَأَسْتَغْفِرَنَّ لَكَ وَمَآ أَمْلِكُ لَكَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن شَىْءٍۢ -
Our Guardian, in You we place our trust, and to You we turn, and to You is the final return. 4
رَّبَّنَا عَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ -
Our Guardian, do not make us a trial for those who deny, 5
رَبَّنَا لَا تَجْعَلْنَا فِتْنَةًۭ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ -
and forgive us, our Guardian. 5
وَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا رَبَّنَآ -
You are indeed the All-Powerful, the Wise.i 5
إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ -
You have indeed had in them a good example, for whoever hopes for God and the Last Day. 6
لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِيهِمْ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌۭ لِّمَن كَانَ يَرْجُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلْءَاخِرَ -
And whoever turns away — indeed God is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy. 6
وَمَن يَتَوَلَّ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْغَنِىُّ ٱلْحَمِيدُ -
It may be that God will place affection between you and those you have held as enemies among them, 7
عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن يَجْعَلَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ ٱلَّذِينَ عَادَيْتُم مِّنْهُم مَّوَدَّةًۭ -
and God is Powerful, 7
وَٱللَّهُ قَدِيرٌۭ -
and God is Forgiving, benevolent. 7
وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ -
God does not forbid you from being kind and just to those who did not fight you concerning the Law and did not expel you from your homes. 8
لَّا يَنْهَىٰكُمُ ٱللَّهُ عَنِ ٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يُقَٰتِلُوكُمْ فِى ٱلدِّينِ وَلَمْ يُخْرِجُوكُم مِّن دِيَٰرِكُمْ أَن تَبَرُّوهُمْ وَتُقْسِطُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِمْ -
Indeed, God loves those who are just. 8
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُقْسِطِينَ -
God only forbids you from taking as allies those who fought you concerning the Law, expelled you from your homes, and supported your expulsion. 9
إِنَّمَا يَنْهَىٰكُمُ ٱللَّهُ عَنِ ٱلَّذِينَ قَٰتَلُوكُمْ فِى ٱلدِّينِ وَأَخْرَجُوكُم مِّن دِيَٰرِكُمْ وَظَٰهَرُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ إِخْرَاجِكُمْ أَن تَوَلَّوْهُمْ -
And whoever allies with them — those are the wrongdoers. 9
وَمَن يَتَوَلَّهُمْ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ -
O you who believe! When believing women come to you as emigrants, test them. 10
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِذَا جَآءَكُمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتُ مُهَٰجِرَٰتٍۢ فَٱمْتَحِنُوهُنَّ -
God knows best their faith. 10
ٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِإِيمَٰنِهِنَّ -
If you know them to be believers, do not return them to those who deny. 10
فَإِنْ عَلِمْتُمُوهُنَّ مُؤْمِنَٰتٍۢ فَلَا تَرْجِعُوهُنَّ إِلَى ٱلْكُفَّارِ -
They are not lawful for them, nor are they lawful for them. 10
لَا هُنَّ حِلٌّۭ لَّهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحِلُّونَ لَهُنَّ -
And give them what they have spent. 10
وَءَاتُوهُم مَّآ أَنفَقُوا۟ -
There is no blame upon you in marrying them when you give them their due compensation. 10
وَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ أَن تَنكِحُوهُنَّ إِذَآ ءَاتَيْتُمُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ -
And do not hold to the marriage ties of those who conceal [the truth]. 10
وَلَا تُمْسِكُوا۟ بِعِصَمِ ٱلْكَوَافِرِ -
Ask for what you have spent, and let them ask for what they have spent. 10
وَسْـَٔلُوا۟ مَآ أَنفَقْتُمْ وَلْيَسْـَٔلُوا۟ مَآ أَنفَقُوا۟ -
That is the judgment of God; He judges between you. 10
ذَٰلِكُمْ حُكْمُ ٱللَّهِ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ -
And God is Knowing, Wise. 10
وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌۭ -
And if any of your wives escape from you to those who deny, and you obtain compensation, then give those whose wives have gone the equivalent of what they had spent. 11
وَإِن فَاتَكُمْ شَىْءٌۭ مِّنْ أَزْوَٰجِكُمْ إِلَى ٱلْكُفَّارِ فَعَاقَبْتُمْ فَـَٔاتُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ذَهَبَتْ أَزْوَٰجُهُم مِّثْلَ مَآ أَنفَقُوا۟ -
And guard yourselves before God, in whom you believe.i 11
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنتُم بِهِۦ مُؤْمِنُونَ -
O Prophet! When believing women come to you to pledge allegiance to you that they will not associate anything with God, not steal, not commit adultery, not kill their children, not bring forth slander they have invented between their hands and feet, and not disobey you in what is recognized, accept their pledge and ask God's forgiveness for them.i 12
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ إِذَا جَآءَكَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتُ يُبَايِعْنَكَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن لَّا يُشْرِكْنَ بِٱللَّهِ شَيْـًۭٔا وَلَا يَسْرِقْنَ وَلَا يَزْنِينَ وَلَا يَقْتُلْنَ أَوْلَٰدَهُنَّ وَلَا يَأْتِينَ بِبُهْتَٰنٍۢ يَفْتَرِينَهُۥ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِنَّ وَأَرْجُلِهِنَّ وَلَا يَعْصِينَكَ فِى مَعْرُوفٍۢ فَبَايِعْهُنَّ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُنَّ ٱللَّهَ ورش قالون -
Indeed, God is Forgiving, benevolent. 12
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ -
O you who believe! Do not take as allies a people with whom God is angry, who have despaired of the Hereafter, just as those who deny have despaired of the companions of the graves. 13
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَوَلَّوْا۟ قَوْمًا غَضِبَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ قَدْ يَئِسُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ كَمَا يَئِسَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مِنْ أَصْحَٰبِ ٱلْقُبُورِ
