سورة 65
۞
At-Talaq
-
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Benevolent. O Prophet! When you divorce women, divorce them with regard to their prescribed waiting period, and count that period precisely.i 1
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ إِذَا طَلَّقْتُمُ ٱلنِّسَآءَ فَطَلِّقُوهُنَّ لِعِدَّتِهِنَّ وَأَحْصُوا۟ ٱلْعِدَّةَ ورش قالون -
And be mindful of God, your Guardian. 1
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمْ -
Do not make them leave their homes, 1
لَا تُخْرِجُوهُنَّ مِنۢ بُيُوتِهِنَّ -
nor should they leave, unless they commit a flagrant indecency. 1
وَلَا يَخْرُجْنَ إِلَّآ أَن يَأْتِينَ بِفَٰحِشَةٍۢ مُّبَيِّنَةٍۢ -
Those are the limits set by God. 1
وَتِلْكَ حُدُودُ ٱللَّهِ -
And whoever transgresses the limits of God has wronged his own Self. 1
وَمَن يَتَعَدَّ حُدُودَ ٱللَّهِ فَقَدْ ظَلَمَ نَفْسَهُۥ -
You do not know: perhaps God will bring about, after that, a new turn of events. 1
لَا تَدْرِى لَعَلَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحْدِثُ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ أَمْرًۭا -
Then, when they reach their term, retain them in a recognized manner or part from them in a recognized manner,i 2
فَإِذَا بَلَغْنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ فَارِقُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍۢ -
and take as witnesses two just persons among you, 2
وَأَشْهِدُوا۟ ذَوَىْ عَدْلٍۢ مِّنكُمْ -
and give that testimony for God's sake. 2
وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلشَّهَٰدَةَ لِلَّهِ -
This is what whoever believes in God and the Last Day is exhorted by. 2
ذَٰلِكُمْ يُوعَظُ بِهِۦ مَن كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِ -
And whoever is mindful of God, He grants him a way out, and provides for him from where he does not expect. 3
وَمَن يَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ يَجْعَل لَّهُۥ مَخْرَجًۭا وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ -
And whoever places his trust in God, He is sufficient for him. 3
وَمَن يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهُۥٓ -
God accomplishes His purpose. 3
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بَٰلِغُ أَمْرِهِۦ -
God has set a measure for everything. 3
قَدْ جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لِكُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدْرًۭا -
As for those of your women who no longer expect menstruation, if you are in doubt, their waiting period is three months, and likewise for those who have not yet menstruated. 4
وَٱلَّٰٓـِٔى يَئِسْنَ مِنَ ٱلْمَحِيضِ مِن نِّسَآئِكُمْ إِنِ ٱرْتَبْتُمْ فَعِدَّتُهُنَّ ثَلَٰثَةُ أَشْهُرٍۢ وَٱلَّٰٓـِٔى لَمْ يَحِضْنَ ورش قالون -
And for pregnant women, their term is when they deliver. 4
وَأُو۟لَٰتُ ٱلْأَحْمَالِ أَجَلُهُنَّ أَن يَضَعْنَ حَمْلَهُنَّ -
And whoever is mindful of God, He makes his affair easy for him. 4
وَمَن يَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ يَجْعَل لَّهُۥ مِنْ أَمْرِهِۦ يُسْرًۭا -
That is God's command, which He has sent down to you. 5
ذَٰلِكَ أَمْرُ ٱللَّهِ أَنزَلَهُۥٓ إِلَيْكُمْ -
And whoever is mindful of God, He effaces his misdeeds and increases his reward. 5
وَمَن يَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ يُكَفِّرْ عَنْهُ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِۦ وَيُعْظِمْ لَهُۥٓ أَجْرًا -
House them where you yourselves dwell, according to your means, 6
أَسْكِنُوهُنَّ مِنْ حَيْثُ سَكَنتُم مِّن وُجْدِكُمْ -
and do not harass them so as to distress them. 6
وَلَا تُضَآرُّوهُنَّ لِتُضَيِّقُوا۟ عَلَيْهِنَّ -
And if they are pregnant, provide for them until they deliver. 6
وَإِن كُنَّ أُو۟لَٰتِ حَمْلٍۢ فَأَنفِقُوا۟ عَلَيْهِنَّ حَتَّىٰ يَضَعْنَ حَمْلَهُنَّ -
Then, if they take charge of the child for you, give them their due payment, and consult together honorably.i 6
فَإِنْ أَرْضَعْنَ لَكُمْ فَـَٔاتُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ وَأْتَمِرُوا۟ بَيْنَكُم بِمَعْرُوفٍۢ -
And if you have difficulty, then another woman will take charge of the child for him. 6
وَإِن تَعَاسَرْتُمْ فَسَتُرْضِعُ لَهُۥٓ أُخْرَىٰ -
Let the affluent spend according to his affluence, 7
لِيُنفِقْ ذُو سَعَةٍۢ مِّن سَعَتِهِۦ -
and let whoever's provision is restricted spend from what God has given him. 7
وَمَن قُدِرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقُهُۥ فَلْيُنفِقْ مِمَّآ ءَاتَىٰهُ ٱللَّهُ -
God does not burden a Self beyond what He has given it. 7
لَا يُكَلِّفُ ٱللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا مَآ ءَاتَىٰهَا -
God will bring ease after hardship. 7
سَيَجْعَلُ ٱللَّهُ بَعْدَ عُسْرٍۢ يُسْرًۭا -
How many a town rebelled against the command of its Guardian and His messengers! We called it to a strict account and punished it with a dreadful punishment, and it tasted the grave consequence of its conduct. 9
وَكَأَيِّن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ عَتَتْ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهَا وَرُسُلِهِۦ فَحَاسَبْنَٰهَا حِسَابًۭا شَدِيدًۭا وَعَذَّبْنَٰهَا عَذَابًۭا نُّكْرًۭا فَذَاقَتْ وَبَالَ أَمْرِهَا -
And the outcome of its conduct was ruin. 9
وَكَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ أَمْرِهَا خُسْرًا -
God has prepared for them a severe punishment. 10
أَعَدَّ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمْ عَذَابًۭا شَدِيدًۭا -
So be mindful of God, O you who possess understanding, 10
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ يَٰٓأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ -
you who believe; God has sent down to you a Reminder, 10
ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ قَدْ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَيْكُمْ ذِكْرًۭا -
a messenger who recites to you God's clarifying signs, so as to bring those who believe and do righteous deeds out of the darknesses into the light. 11
رَّسُولًۭا يَتْلُوا۟ عَلَيْكُمْ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ مُبَيِّنَٰتٍۢ لِّيُخْرِجَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ مِنَ ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ -
And whoever believes in God and does righteous deeds, He will admit him into gardens beneath which rivers flow, to abide there forever; God has indeed granted him a goodly provision.i 11
وَمَن يُؤْمِنۢ بِٱللَّهِ وَيَعْمَلْ صَٰلِحًۭا يُدْخِلْهُ جَنَّٰتٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًۭا قَدْ أَحْسَنَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُۥ رِزْقًا ورش قالون -
God is the One who created seven heavens, and of the earth their like. 12
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ سَبْعَ سَمَٰوَٰتٍۢ وَمِنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ مِثْلَهُنَّ -
The command descends among them, so that you may know that God is capable of all things, and that God encompasses all things in knowledge. 12
يَتَنَزَّلُ ٱلْأَمْرُ بَيْنَهُنَّ لِتَعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدِيرٌۭ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَدْ أَحَاطَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عِلْمًۢا
