سورة 69
۞
Al-Haqqa
-
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Benevolent. The Reality! What is the Reality?i 2
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ٱلْحَآقَّةُ مَا ٱلْحَآقَّةُ -
And what will make you know what the Reality is? 3
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْحَآقَّةُ -
the Depleters [Thamud] and the Recidivists [Aad] denied the Calamity that strikes. 4
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ وَعَادٌۢ بِٱلْقَارِعَةِ -
As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the overwhelming blast. 5
فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ -
And as for Aad, they were destroyed by a furious, roaring wind, which He unleashed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, 7
وَأَمَّا عَادٌۭ فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ بِرِيحٍۢ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍۢ سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍۢ وَثَمَٰنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومًۭا -
so that you would have seen the people lying prostrate, as if they were hollow trunks of uprooted palm trees. 7
فَتَرَى ٱلْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍۢ -
Do you see any remnant of them? 8
فَهَلْ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّنۢ بَاقِيَةٍۢ -
And Fir'awn, and those before him, and the overturned cities committed the offense; they disobeyed the messenger of their Guardian, so He seized them with an ever-intensifying seizure.i 10
وَجَآءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَن قَبْلَهُۥ وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَٰتُ بِٱلْخَاطِئَةِ فَعَصَوْا۟ رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ أَخْذَةًۭ رَّابِيَةً -
When the water overflowed, We carried you on the vessel, so as to make it a reminder for you, and so that a retaining ear might retain it. 12
إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا ٱلْمَآءُ حَمَلْنَٰكُمْ فِى ٱلْجَارِيَةِ لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةًۭ وَتَعِيَهَآ أُذُنٌۭ وَٰعِيَةٌۭ -
When the trumpet is blown with a single blast, and the earth and the mountains are lifted and crushed with a single blow, on that day the Event will occur, and the heaven will split apart and be, on that day, frail, with the Agent at its edge,i 17
فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ نَفْخَةٌۭ وَٰحِدَةٌۭ وَحُمِلَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢ وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَهِىَ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ وَاهِيَةٌۭ وَٱلْمَلَكُ عَلَىٰٓ أَرْجَآئِهَا -
and eight [of them] will bear, on that day, the Edifice of your Guardian above them. On that day you will be exposed, and nothing about you will remain hidden.i 18
وَيَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبِّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ ثَمَٰنِيَةٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ تُعْرَضُونَ لَا تَخْفَىٰ مِنكُمْ خَافِيَةٌۭ -
As for the one who is given his record in his right hand, he will say: 'Here, read my record!i 19
فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ هَآؤُمُ ٱقْرَءُوا۟ كِتَٰبِيَهْ -
I knew that I would meet my reckoning.' 20
إِنِّى ظَنَنتُ أَنِّى مُلَٰقٍ حِسَابِيَهْ -
He will be in a pleasing life, in an elevated garden, whose fruit clusters are within reach. 23
فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍۢ رَّاضِيَةٍۢ فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍۢ قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةٌۭ -
'Eat and drink 24
كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ -
in ease, for what you sent forth in the days gone by.' 24
هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَآ أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَيَّامِ ٱلْخَالِيَةِ -
But as for the one who is given his record in his left hand, he will say: 'Oh, would that I had not been given my record,i 25
وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِشِمَالِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى لَمْ أُوتَ كِتَٰبِيَهْ -
and that I had not known what my reckoning was! 26
وَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهْ -
Would that it had been the final end! My wealth has not availed me, 28
يَٰلَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ ٱلْقَاضِيَةَ مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنِّى مَالِيَهْ -
my authority has vanished from me.' 29
هَلَكَ عَنِّى سُلْطَٰنِيَهْ -
'Seize him, then bind him, then expose him to the Blaze, then insert him into a chain seventy cubits in length. 32
خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ ثُمَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ ثُمَّ فِى سِلْسِلَةٍۢ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعًۭا فَٱسْلُكُوهُ -
He did not believe in God, the Immense, nor did he urge the feeding of the destitute.i 34
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لَا يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ -
So today he has here no close friend, nor any food except a foul discharge, which only the sinners eat.' 37
فَلَيْسَ لَهُ ٱلْيَوْمَ هَٰهُنَا حَمِيمٌۭ وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ غِسْلِينٍۢ لَّا يَأْكُلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْخَٰطِـُٔونَ -
I swear by what you see and what you do not see: this is indeed the word of a noble messenger, and it is not the word of a beguiling rhetorician — little do you believe — nor the word of a soothsayer.i 42
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍۢ كَرِيمٍۢ وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَاعِرٍۢ قَلِيلًۭا مَّا تُؤْمِنُونَ وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٍۢ البزي قنبل -
Little do you take heed. 42
قَلِيلًۭا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ البزي قنبل -
It is a revelation sent down from the Guardian of all beings.i 43
تَنزِيلٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ -
And had he attributed to Us some fabricated sayings, We would have seized him by the right hand, then severed his aorta, and not one of you could have shielded him from Us. 47
وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ ٱلْأَقَاوِيلِ لَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِٱلْيَمِينِ ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ ٱلْوَتِينَ فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَٰجِزِينَ -
And this is indeed a reminder for those who are mindful [of God]. 48
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَذْكِرَةٌۭ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ -
And We indeed know that among you are deniers. 49
وَإِنَّا لَنَعْلَمُ أَنَّ مِنكُم مُّكَذِّبِينَ -
And this is indeed a bitter regret for those who deny.i 50
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَسْرَةٌ عَلَى ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ -
And this is indeed the truth of certainty. 51
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ -
So glorify the name of your Guardian, the Immense. 52
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
