Sourate Al-Anfal (8) vowelled

In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. They ask you about the surpluses [of war].i 1

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلْأَنفَالِ

Say: "The surpluses belong to God and the Messenger. 1

قُلِ ٱلْأَنفَالُ لِلَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِ

So guard yourselves toward God, and set right [what is] between you, 1

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَصْلِحُوا۟ ذَاتَ بَيْنِكُمْ

and obey God and His Messenger, if you are believers." 1

وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥٓ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

The believers are only those whose cores tremble when God is remembered, whose faith increases when His signs are recited to them, and who rely upon their Guardian, 2

إِنَّمَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِرَ ٱللَّهُ وَجِلَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَإِذَا تُلِيَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَٰتُهُۥ زَادَتْهُمْ إِيمَٰنًۭا وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ

who maintain the Contact, and who spend from what We have provided them as sustenance — those are the true believers. 4

ٱلَّذِينَ يُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَٰهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ حَقًّۭا

They have degrees with their Guardian, a forgiveness, and a generous provision. 4

لَّهُمْ دَرَجَٰتٌ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ وَمَغْفِرَةٌۭ وَرِزْقٌۭ كَرِيمٌۭ

As when your Guardian brought you out of your dwelling in truth, while a group of believers were averse to it, disputing with you about the truth once it had become clear, as if they were being driven toward death, their eyes open. 6

كَمَآ أَخْرَجَكَ رَبُّكَ مِنۢ بَيْتِكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّ فَرِيقًۭا مِّنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ لَكَٰرِهُونَ يُجَٰدِلُونَكَ فِى ٱلْحَقِّ بَعْدَمَا تَبَيَّنَ كَأَنَّمَا يُسَاقُونَ إِلَى ٱلْمَوْتِ وَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ

شعبة قالون البزي قنبل الدوري السوسي

And when God promised you that one of the two groups would be yours, while you wished it would be the one without arms. 7

وَإِذْ يَعِدُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ إِحْدَى ٱلطَّآئِفَتَيْنِ أَنَّهَا لَكُمْ وَتَوَدُّونَ أَنَّ غَيْرَ ذَاتِ ٱلشَّوْكَةِ تَكُونُ لَكُمْ

But God wanted, by His words, to make the truth prevail and to cut off, to the last remnant, those who deny-disown so as to make the truth prevail and to nullify falsehood, however much the severed detest it.i 8

وَيُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن يُحِقَّ ٱلْحَقَّ بِكَلِمَٰتِهِۦ وَيَقْطَعَ دَابِرَ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ لِيُحِقَّ ٱلْحَقَّ وَيُبْطِلَ ٱلْبَٰطِلَ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ

When you implored the help of your Guardian, and He answered you: "I reinforce you with a thousand Agents, following one another."i 9

إِذْ تَسْتَغِيثُونَ رَبَّكُمْ فَٱسْتَجَابَ لَكُمْ أَنِّى مُمِدُّكُم بِأَلْفٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ مُرْدِفِينَ

And God made it only a good tiding, and so that your cores might find ease in it. 10

وَمَا جَعَلَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا بُشْرَىٰ وَلِتَطْمَئِنَّ بِهِۦ قُلُوبُكُمْ

But victory comes only from God. 10

وَمَا ٱلنَّصْرُ إِلَّا مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ

God is All-Powerful, Wise. 10

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ

When He enveloped you in drowsiness, as a security from Himself, and sent down upon you, from the sky, water, to purify you with it, to remove from you the defilement of the Diverter, to bind your cores, and to make firm your steps with it.i 11

إِذْ يُغَشِّيكُمُ ٱلنُّعَاسَ أَمَنَةًۭ مِّنْهُ وَيُنَزِّلُ عَلَيْكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۭ لِّيُطَهِّرَكُم بِهِۦ وَيُذْهِبَ عَنكُمْ رِجْزَ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ وَلِيَرْبِطَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِكُمْ وَيُثَبِّتَ بِهِ ٱلْأَقْدَامَ

البزي قنبل الدوري السوسي

When your Guardian revealed to the Agents: "I am with you; so make firm those who have believed.i 12

إِذْ يُوحِى رَبُّكَ إِلَى ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ أَنِّى مَعَكُمْ فَثَبِّتُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟

I will cast terror into the cores of those who deny-disown. 12

سَأُلْقِى فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلرُّعْبَ

So multiply the captives beyond [their necessary number], and multiply among them those of the greatest exchange value.i 12

فَٱضْرِبُوا۟ فَوْقَ ٱلْأَعْنَاقِ وَٱضْرِبُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ كُلَّ بَنَانٍۢ

That is because they set themselves against God and His Messenger. 13

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ شَآقُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ

And whoever sets himself against God and His Messenger — God is indeed severe in punishment. 13

وَمَن يُشَاقِقِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ

That is for you: taste it, then! 14

ذَٰلِكُمْ فَذُوقُوهُ

And for those who deny-disown is reserved the punishment of the Fire. 14

وَأَنَّ لِلْكَٰفِرِينَ عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ

O you who have believed! when you meet those who deny-disown advancing [for battle], do not turn your backs to them. 15

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِذَا لَقِيتُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ زَحْفًۭا فَلَا تُوَلُّوهُمُ ٱلْأَدْبَارَ

And whoever, on that day, turns his back to them — except as a maneuver for battle, or a withdrawal toward a [allied] group — incurs God's anger, and his refuge will be Jahannam. 16

وَمَن يُوَلِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ دُبُرَهُۥٓ إِلَّا مُتَحَرِّفًۭا لِّقِتَالٍ أَوْ مُتَحَيِّزًا إِلَىٰ فِئَةٍۢ فَقَدْ بَآءَ بِغَضَبٍۢ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَمَأْوَىٰهُ جَهَنَّمُ

And what an evil destination! 16

وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ

So it was not you who killed them, 17

فَلَمْ تَقْتُلُوهُمْ

but it was God who killed them. 17

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَتَلَهُمْ

And you did not throw, when you threw, but it was God who threw, 17

وَمَا رَمَيْتَ إِذْ رَمَيْتَ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ رَمَىٰ

so as to test the believers with a good trial, from Himself. 17

وَلِيُبْلِىَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْهُ بَلَآءً حَسَنًا

God is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. 17

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌۭ

That is for you! And God weakens the scheming of those who deny-disown. 18

ذَٰلِكُمْ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مُوهِنُ كَيْدِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

If you sought a decisive judgment, the decisive judgment has already come to you;i 19

إِن تَسْتَفْتِحُوا۟ فَقَدْ جَآءَكُمُ ٱلْفَتْحُ

and if you cease, it will be better for you; 19

وَإِن تَنتَهُوا۟ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌۭ لَّكُمْ

but if you resume, We will resume, 19

وَإِن تَعُودُوا۟ نَعُدْ

and your group will not avail you at all, even if it is numerous; 19

وَلَن تُغْنِىَ عَنكُمْ فِئَتُكُمْ شَيْـًۭٔا وَلَوْ كَثُرَتْ

for God is with the believers. 19

وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

O you who have believed! obey God and His Messenger, 20

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ

and do not turn away from him, while you hear. 20

وَلَا تَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ وَأَنتُمْ تَسْمَعُونَ

And do not be like those who say: "We have heard", while they do not hear. 21

وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوا۟ سَمِعْنَا وَهُمْ لَا يَسْمَعُونَ

The worst of living beings, with God, are the deaf, the mute, those who do not reason. 22

إِنَّ شَرَّ ٱلدَّوَآبِّ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلصُّمُّ ٱلْبُكْمُ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ

Had God known any good in them, He would certainly have made them hear; 23

وَلَوْ عَلِمَ ٱللَّهُ فِيهِمْ خَيْرًۭا لَّأَسْمَعَهُمْ

and even had He made them hear, they would have turned away, evading. 23

وَلَوْ أَسْمَعَهُمْ لَتَوَلَّوا۟ وَّهُم مُّعْرِضُونَ

O you who have believed! respond to God and to the messenger, when he calls you to what gives you life, 24

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱسْتَجِيبُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُمْ لِمَا يُحْيِيكُمْ

and know that God interposes between the human being and his core, and that it is to Him that you will be gathered. 24

وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَحُولُ بَيْنَ ٱلْمَرْءِ وَقَلْبِهِۦ وَأَنَّهُۥٓ إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ

And guard yourselves against a trial that will not strike exclusively those among you who have done wrong, 25

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ فِتْنَةًۭ لَّا تُصِيبَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مِنكُمْ خَآصَّةًۭ

and know that God is severe in punishment. 25

وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ

And remember when you were few, reduced to weakness on the earth, fearing that people would snatch you away; He then granted you refuge, reinforced you with His help, and provided you with good things as sustenance — perhaps you will be grateful. 26

وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ إِذْ أَنتُمْ قَلِيلٌۭ مُّسْتَضْعَفُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ تَخَافُونَ أَن يَتَخَطَّفَكُمُ ٱلنَّاسُ فَـَٔاوَىٰكُمْ وَأَيَّدَكُم بِنَصْرِهِۦ وَرَزَقَكُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَٰتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ

O you who have believed! do not betray God and the messenger, and do not betray your trusts, while you know. 27

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَخُونُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلرَّسُولَ وَتَخُونُوٓا۟ أَمَٰنَٰتِكُمْ وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

And know that your possessions and your children are but a trial, and that with God there is an immense reward. 28

وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّمَآ أَمْوَٰلُكُمْ وَأَوْلَٰدُكُمْ فِتْنَةٌۭ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ عِندَهُۥٓ أَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌۭ

O you who have believed! if you guard yourselves toward God, He will grant you a Discernment, erase your evil deeds for you, and forgive you.i 29

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِن تَتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ يَجْعَل لَّكُمْ فُرْقَانًۭا وَيُكَفِّرْ عَنكُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ

God holds the immense favor. 29

وَٱللَّهُ ذُو ٱلْفَضْلِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

And when those who deny-disown were plotting against you, to immobilize you, kill you, or expel you. 30

وَإِذْ يَمْكُرُ بِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيُثْبِتُوكَ أَوْ يَقْتُلُوكَ أَوْ يُخْرِجُوكَ

They plotted, and God plotted [in return], 30

وَيَمْكُرُونَ وَيَمْكُرُ ٱللَّهُ

and God is the best of those who weave plots. 30

وَٱللَّهُ خَيْرُ ٱلْمَٰكِرِينَ

And when Our signs are recited to them, they say: "We have indeed heard; if we wished, we would say the same; 31

وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَٰتُنَا قَالُوا۟ قَدْ سَمِعْنَا لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَقُلْنَا مِثْلَ هَٰذَآ

these are nothing but legends of the ancients." 31

إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّآ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

And when they said: "O God! if this is indeed the truth from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky, or bring us a painful punishment." 32

وَإِذْ قَالُوا۟ ٱللَّهُمَّ إِن كَانَ هَٰذَا هُوَ ٱلْحَقَّ مِنْ عِندِكَ فَأَمْطِرْ عَلَيْنَا حِجَارَةًۭ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ أَوِ ٱئْتِنَا بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍۢ

But it was not for God to punish them while you were among them, 33

وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَأَنتَ فِيهِمْ

and it was not for God to punish them while they were asking forgiveness. 33

وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ

And what reason would they have for God not to punish them, while they turn [people] away from the inviolable place of prostration, without even being its protectors? 34

وَمَا لَهُمْ أَلَّا يُعَذِّبَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَهُمْ يَصُدُّونَ عَنِ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ وَمَا كَانُوٓا۟ أَوْلِيَآءَهُۥٓ

Its protectors are only those who guard themselves, 34

إِنْ أَوْلِيَآؤُهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ

but most of them do not know. 34

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

And their Contact, near the House, was nothing but a brawl mixed with a diversion [from the path of God].i 35

وَمَا كَانَ صَلَاتُهُمْ عِندَ ٱلْبَيْتِ إِلَّا مُكَآءًۭ وَتَصْدِيَةًۭ

Taste then the punishment, for having denied-disowned. 35

فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ

Those who deny-disown spend their wealth so as to turn [others] away from the path of God. 36

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ لِيَصُدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ

So they will spend it, then it will become for them a bitter regret, then they will be overcome. 36

فَسَيُنفِقُونَهَا ثُمَّ تَكُونُ عَلَيْهِمْ حَسْرَةًۭ ثُمَّ يُغْلَبُونَ

And those who deny-disown will be gathered toward Jahannam, so that God may distinguish the vile from the good, place the vile, part upon part, make of it a whole heap, and put it into Jahannam. 37

وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ جَهَنَّمَ يُحْشَرُونَ لِيَمِيزَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْخَبِيثَ مِنَ ٱلطَّيِّبِ وَيَجْعَلَ ٱلْخَبِيثَ بَعْضَهُۥ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍۢ فَيَرْكُمَهُۥ جَمِيعًۭا فَيَجْعَلَهُۥ فِى جَهَنَّمَ

Those are the losers. 37

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْخَٰسِرُونَ

Say to those who deny-disown: if they cease, what has already passed will be forgiven them; 38

قُل لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ إِن يَنتَهُوا۟ يُغْفَرْ لَهُم مَّا قَدْ سَلَفَ

but if they resume, the way [of acting] of the ancients is already well established. 38

وَإِن يَعُودُوا۟ فَقَدْ مَضَتْ سُنَّتُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

And fight them until there is no more trial, and the Law is entirely for God. 39

وَقَٰتِلُوهُمْ حَتَّىٰ لَا تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌۭ وَيَكُونَ ٱلدِّينُ كُلُّهُۥ لِلَّهِ

But if they cease, then God sees perfectly what they do. 39

فَإِنِ ٱنتَهَوْا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌۭ

And if they turn away, know then that God is your Protector. 40

وَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَوْلَىٰكُمْ

What an excellent Protector, 40

نِعْمَ ٱلْمَوْلَىٰ

and what an excellent Helper! 40

وَنِعْمَ ٱلنَّصِيرُ

And know that, of everything you take as spoils, a fifth belongs to God, to the Messenger, to relatives, to orphans, to the destitute, and to the stranded traveler — if you believe in God and in what We sent down upon Our obedient one, on the day of the Discernment, the day the two forces met. 41

وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّمَا غَنِمْتُم مِّن شَىْءٍۢ فَأَنَّ لِلَّهِ خُمُسَهُۥ وَلِلرَّسُولِ وَلِذِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَٱلْيَتَٰمَىٰ وَٱلْمَسَٰكِينِ وَٱبْنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ إِن كُنتُمْ ءَامَنتُم بِٱللَّهِ وَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَىٰ عَبْدِنَا يَوْمَ ٱلْفُرْقَانِ يَوْمَ ٱلْتَقَى ٱلْجَمْعَانِ

And God has power over all things. 41

وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدِيرٌ

When you were on the nearer side, and they were on the farther side, and the cavalry was lower than you.i 42

إِذْ أَنتُم بِٱلْعُدْوَةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَهُم بِٱلْعُدْوَةِ ٱلْقُصْوَىٰ وَٱلرَّكْبُ أَسْفَلَ مِنكُمْ

And had you made an appointment [to meet], you would have differed over that appointment; 42

وَلَوْ تَوَاعَدتُّمْ لَٱخْتَلَفْتُمْ فِى ٱلْمِيعَٰدِ

but [it happened thus] so that God might accomplish a matter already decreed, so that whoever was to perish might perish upon clear evidence, and whoever was to live might live upon clear evidence. 42

وَلَٰكِن لِّيَقْضِىَ ٱللَّهُ أَمْرًۭا كَانَ مَفْعُولًۭا لِّيَهْلِكَ مَنْ هَلَكَ عَنۢ بَيِّنَةٍۢ وَيَحْيَىٰ مَنْ حَىَّ عَنۢ بَيِّنَةٍۢ

ورش

God is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. 42

وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَسَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

When God showed them to you, in your sleep, as few — 43

إِذْ يُرِيكَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِى مَنَامِكَ قَلِيلًۭا

and had He shown them to you as many, you would certainly have faltered, and you would certainly have disputed over the matter; 43

وَلَوْ أَرَىٰكَهُمْ كَثِيرًۭا لَّفَشِلْتُمْ وَلَتَنَٰزَعْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَمْرِ

but God preserved [you from that]. 43

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَلَّمَ

He knows perfectly what is in the chests. 43

إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ

And when He showed them to you, when you met, as few in your eyes, and made you appear few in their eyes, so that God might accomplish a matter already decreed. 44

وَإِذْ يُرِيكُمُوهُمْ إِذِ ٱلْتَقَيْتُمْ فِىٓ أَعْيُنِكُمْ قَلِيلًۭا وَيُقَلِّلُكُمْ فِىٓ أَعْيُنِهِمْ لِيَقْضِىَ ٱللَّهُ أَمْرًۭا كَانَ مَفْعُولًۭا

And it is to God that all matters return. 44

وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ تُرْجَعُ ٱلْأُمُورُ

O you who have believed! when you meet a [hostile] group, stand firm, and remember God abundantly — perhaps you will succeed. 45

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِذَا لَقِيتُمْ فِئَةًۭ فَٱثْبُتُوا۟ وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ كَثِيرًۭا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ

And obey God and His Messenger, 46

وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ

and do not dispute with one another, lest you falter and lose your momentum; 46

وَلَا تَنَٰزَعُوا۟ فَتَفْشَلُوا۟ وَتَذْهَبَ رِيحُكُمْ

and be patient. 46

وَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟

God is with the patient. 46

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ

And do not be like those who came out of their dwellings with insolence and for show before the people, and who turn [others] away from the path of God. 47

وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِينَ خَرَجُوا۟ مِن دِيَٰرِهِم بَطَرًۭا وَرِئَآءَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَيَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ

God encompasses perfectly what they do. 47

وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطٌۭ

And when the Diverter embellished their deeds for them, and said: "None, today, among the people, can overcome you, and I am your neighboring protector";i 48

وَإِذْ زَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ وَقَالَ لَا غَالِبَ لَكُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ مِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَإِنِّى جَارٌۭ لَّكُمْ

but when the two forces saw one another, he turned back on his heels, and said: "I disavow you; I see what you do not see; I fear God." 48

فَلَمَّا تَرَآءَتِ ٱلْفِئَتَانِ نَكَصَ عَلَىٰ عَقِبَيْهِ وَقَالَ إِنِّى بَرِىٓءٌۭ مِّنكُمْ إِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰ مَا لَا تَرَوْنَ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ ٱللَّهَ

God is severe in punishment. 48

وَٱللَّهُ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ

When the hypocrites, and those in whose cores is a sickness, said: "Their Law has indeed deceived these people." 49

إِذْ يَقُولُ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقُونَ وَٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ غَرَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ دِينُهُمْ

But whoever relies upon God — God is indeed All-Powerful, Wise. 49

وَمَن يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌۭ

And if you could see, when the Self is taken from those who denied-disowned,i 50

وَلَوْ تَرَىٰٓ إِذْ يَتَوَفَّى ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟

the Agents multiply their haul of them, whether they face forward or turn away in flight: "Taste the punishment of the Blaze!"i 50

ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ يَضْرِبُونَ وُجُوهَهُمْ وَأَدْبَٰرَهُمْ وَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلْحَرِيقِ

That is what your hands have prepared; and God is not at all unjust toward His the constrained. 51

ذَٰلِكَ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَيْسَ بِظَلَّٰمٍۢ لِّلْعَبِيدِ

Like the conduct of the clan of Fir'awn,i 52

كَدَأْبِ ءَالِ فِرْعَوْنَ

and of those before them, who denied-disowned the signs of God; God then seized them for their offenses. 52

وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِذُنُوبِهِمْ

God is strong, severe in punishment. 52

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَوِىٌّۭ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ

That is because God never alters a blessing He has granted a people, so long as they do not alter what is in themselves; and God is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. 53

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَمْ يَكُ مُغَيِّرًۭا نِّعْمَةً أَنْعَمَهَا عَلَىٰ قَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا۟ مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌۭ

Like the conduct of the clan of Fir'awn,i 54

كَدَأْبِ ءَالِ فِرْعَوْنَ

and of those before them, who denied the signs of their Guardian; We then destroyed them for their offenses, 54

وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَهْلَكْنَٰهُم بِذُنُوبِهِمْ

and We drowned the clan of Fir'awn.i 54

وَأَغْرَقْنَآ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ

All were unjust. 54

وَكُلٌّۭ كَانُوا۟ ظَٰلِمِينَ

The worst of living beings, with God, are those who denied-disowned and who, henceforth, do not believe — those with whom you made a pact, and who, every time, break their pact, and who do not guard themselves. 56

إِنَّ شَرَّ ٱلدَّوَآبِّ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ عَٰهَدتَّ مِنْهُمْ ثُمَّ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَهُمْ فِى كُلِّ مَرَّةٍۢ وَهُمْ لَا يَتَّقُونَ

So if you overtake them in war, scatter them, along with them, those who follow them, that they may take heed. 57

فَإِمَّا تَثْقَفَنَّهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَرْبِ فَشَرِّدْ بِهِم مَّنْ خَلْفَهُمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَذَّكَّرُونَ

And if you fear treachery from a people, denounce [the pact] toward them, on equal terms. 58

وَإِمَّا تَخَافَنَّ مِن قَوْمٍ خِيَانَةًۭ فَٱنۢبِذْ إِلَيْهِمْ عَلَىٰ سَوَآءٍ

God does not love the treacherous. 58

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْخَآئِنِينَ

And let those who deny-disown by no means think that they have gotten ahead. 59

وَلَا يَحْسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ سَبَقُوٓا۟

🖼 ورش شعبة قالون البزي قنبل الدوري السوسي

They cannot render [God] powerless. 59

إِنَّهُمْ لَا يُعْجِزُونَ

And prepare, against them, whatever you can of force and of steeds held ready for battle, 60

وَأَعِدُّوا۟ لَهُم مَّا ٱسْتَطَعْتُم مِّن قُوَّةٍۢ وَمِن رِّبَاطِ ٱلْخَيْلِ

so as to strike terror thereby into the enemy of God and your enemy, and others, besides them, whom you do not know: 60

تُرْهِبُونَ بِهِۦ عَدُوَّ ٱللَّهِ وَعَدُوَّكُمْ وَءَاخَرِينَ مِن دُونِهِمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَهُمُ

God, He, knows them. 60

ٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُهُمْ

And whatever you spend in the way of God will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged. 60

وَمَا تُنفِقُوا۟ مِن شَىْءٍۢ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ يُوَفَّ إِلَيْكُمْ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تُظْلَمُونَ

And if they incline toward peace, incline toward it also, and rely upon God. 61

وَإِن جَنَحُوا۟ لِلسَّلْمِ فَٱجْنَحْ لَهَا وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ

He is, indeed, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. 61

إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ

And if they want to deceive you, then God suffices you. 62

وَإِن يُرِيدُوٓا۟ أَن يَخْدَعُوكَ فَإِنَّ حَسْبَكَ ٱللَّهُ

It is He who reinforced you with His help and with the believers, and who reconciled their cores. 63

هُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَيَّدَكَ بِنَصْرِهِۦ وَبِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَأَلَّفَ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِهِمْ

Had you spent all that is on earth, you would not have reconciled their cores, 63

لَوْ أَنفَقْتَ مَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًۭا مَّآ أَلَّفْتَ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِهِمْ

but it is God who reconciled them. 63

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ أَلَّفَ بَيْنَهُمْ

He is All-Powerful, Wise. 63

إِنَّهُۥ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌۭ

O Prophet! God suffices you, 64

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ حَسْبُكَ ٱللَّهُ

ورش قالون

and so do those of the believers who follow you. 64

وَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

O Prophet! urge the believers to combat. 65

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ حَرِّضِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلَى ٱلْقِتَالِ

ورش قالون

If there are, among you, twenty patient men, they will overcome two hundred [men]; 65

إِن يَكُن مِّنكُمْ عِشْرُونَ صَٰبِرُونَ يَغْلِبُوا۟ مِا۟ئَتَيْنِ

and if there are a hundred among you, they will overcome a thousand of those who deny-disown, for they are a people who do not understand. 65

وَإِن يَكُن مِّنكُم مِّا۟ئَةٌۭ يَغْلِبُوٓا۟ أَلْفًۭا مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌۭ لَّا يَفْقَهُونَ

Now, God has lightened [your burden], and He has known that there was weakness in you. 66

ٱلْـَٰٔنَ خَفَّفَ ٱللَّهُ عَنكُمْ وَعَلِمَ أَنَّ فِيكُمْ ضَعْفًۭا

So if there are a hundred among you, patient, they will overcome two hundred; 66

فَإِن يَكُن مِّنكُم مِّا۟ئَةٌۭ صَابِرَةٌۭ يَغْلِبُوا۟ مِا۟ئَتَيْنِ

ورش قالون البزي قنبل الدوري السوسي

and if there are a thousand among you, they will overcome two thousand, with God's permission. 66

وَإِن يَكُن مِّنكُمْ أَلْفٌۭ يَغْلِبُوٓا۟ أَلْفَيْنِ بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ

God is with the patient. 66

وَٱللَّهُ مَعَ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ

It was not for a prophet to have captives, until he had fully subdued the land. 67

مَا كَانَ لِنَبِىٍّ أَن يَكُونَ لَهُۥٓ أَسْرَىٰ حَتَّىٰ يُثْخِنَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ

ورش قالون الدوري السوسي

You wanted the fleeting goods of the present life, 67

تُرِيدُونَ عَرَضَ ٱلدُّنْيَا

while God wants the last life. 67

وَٱللَّهُ يُرِيدُ ٱلْءَاخِرَةَ

God is All-Powerful, Wise. 67

وَٱللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌۭ

Had it not been for a prior register from God, an immense punishment would have touched you for what you took.i 68

لَّوْلَا كِتَٰبٌۭ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ سَبَقَ لَمَسَّكُمْ فِيمَآ أَخَذْتُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌۭ

So eat of what you have taken as spoils, lawful and good, 69

فَكُلُوا۟ مِمَّا غَنِمْتُمْ حَلَٰلًۭا طَيِّبًۭا

and guard yourselves toward God. 69

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ

God is Most-Forgiving, full of benevolence. 69

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ

O Prophet! say to those of the captives in your hands: "If God knows any good in your cores, He will give you better than what was taken from you, and He will forgive you." 70

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ قُل لِّمَن فِىٓ أَيْدِيكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَسْرَىٰٓ إِن يَعْلَمِ ٱللَّهُ فِى قُلُوبِكُمْ خَيْرًۭا يُؤْتِكُمْ خَيْرًۭا مِّمَّآ أُخِذَ مِنكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ

God is Most-Forgiving, full of benevolence. 70

وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ

And if they want to betray you, they have already betrayed God before, and He has given you power over them. 71

وَإِن يُرِيدُوا۟ خِيَانَتَكَ فَقَدْ خَانُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مِن قَبْلُ فَأَمْكَنَ مِنْهُمْ

God is All-Knowing, Wise. 71

وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ

Those who have believed, emigrated, and striven with their possessions and their Selves in the way of God, and those who gave refuge and helped — those are allies of one another. 72

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَهَاجَرُوا۟ وَجَٰهَدُوا۟ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَاوَوا۟ وَّنَصَرُوٓا۟ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَآءُ بَعْضٍۢ

And those who believed without emigrating — you have, of their protection, no responsibility, until they emigrate. 72

وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَلَمْ يُهَاجِرُوا۟ مَا لَكُم مِّن وَلَٰيَتِهِم مِّن شَىْءٍ حَتَّىٰ يُهَاجِرُوا۟

And if they ask you for help in the name of the Law, help is incumbent upon you, except against a people between whom and you there is a covenant. 72

وَإِنِ ٱسْتَنصَرُوكُمْ فِى ٱلدِّينِ فَعَلَيْكُمُ ٱلنَّصْرُ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ قَوْمٍۭ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُم مِّيثَٰقٌۭ

God sees perfectly what you do. 72

وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌۭ

And those who deny-disown are allies of one another. 73

وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَآءُ بَعْضٍ

If you do not do this, there will be a trial on earth, and immense corruption. 73

إِلَّا تَفْعَلُوهُ تَكُن فِتْنَةٌۭ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَفَسَادٌۭ كَبِيرٌۭ

And those who have believed, emigrated, and striven in the way of God, and those who gave refuge and helped — those are the true believers. 74

وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَهَاجَرُوا۟ وَجَٰهَدُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَاوَوا۟ وَّنَصَرُوٓا۟ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ حَقًّۭا

They have a forgiveness, and a generous provision. 74

لَّهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌۭ وَرِزْقٌۭ كَرِيمٌۭ

And those who believed afterward, emigrated, and strove with you — those are among you. 75

وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدُ وَهَاجَرُوا۟ وَجَٰهَدُوا۟ مَعَكُمْ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ مِنكُمْ

And the possessors of kinship ties have, toward one another, greater right according to God's Code.i 75

وَأُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَرْحَامِ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلَىٰ بِبَعْضٍۢ فِى كِتَٰبِ ٱللَّهِ

God is All-Knowing of all things. 75

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌۢ
