When you read the Recitation وإذا قرأت القرآن
Summary and links in the frieze
In the frieze He reads the Recitation behind a veil, was nearly shaken out of the land, and receives the commands of wisdom.
Read just before, 18 leads here: I am only a human, he says; sura 17 has him answer the same to those who demand wonders. 18
It leads to 16: When he reads the Recitation, a veil separates him from those who do not believe; sura 16 commands him to seek refuge with God. 16
Closes on “These are the signs of the Scripture full of wisdom”
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Glory be to the One who made His obedient one travel by night, from the inviolable place of prostration to the farthest place of prostration, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him some of Our signs;
بِسْمِ اِ۬للَّهِ اِ۬لرَّحْمَٰنِ اِ۬لرَّحِيمِ سُبْحَٰنَ اَ۬لذِےٓ أَسْر۪ىٰ بِعَبْدِهِۦ لَيْلاٗ مِّنَ اَ۬لْمَسْجِدِ اِ۬لْحَرَامِ إِلَى اَ۬لْمَسْجِدِ اِ۬لَاقْصَا اَ۬لذِے بَٰرَكْنَا حَوْلَهُۥ لِنُرِيَهُۥ مِنَ اٰيَٰتِنَآۖ
for it is He, the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.
إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ اَ۬لسَّمِيعُ اُ۬لْبَصِيرُۖ
And We gave Moussa the Scripture, and made it a guidance for the Sons of Israel: "Take no one, besides Me, as a trustee" — descendants of those We carried with Nuh;
وَءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى اَ۬لْكِتَٰبَ وَجَعَلْنَٰهُ هُدىٗ لِّبَنِےٓ إِسْرَآءِيلَ أَلَّا تَتَّخِذُواْ مِن دُونِے وَكِيلاٗ ذُرِّيَّةَ مَنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُوحٍۖ
for he was a grateful obedient one.
اِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَبْداٗ شَكُوراٗۖ
And We decreed to the Sons of Israel, in the Scripture: "You will surely sow corruption on the earth twice, and you will surely rise with great haughtiness."
وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ بَنِےٓ إِسْرَآءِيلَ فِے اِ۬لْكِتَٰبِ لَتُفْسِدُنَّ فِے اِ۬لَارْضِ مَرَّتَيْنِ وَلَتَعْلُنَّ عُلُوّاٗ كَبِيراٗۖ
When the promise of the first of these two came, We raised up against you obedient ones of Ours, possessed of severe rigor, who ranged through the abodes in every direction —
فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعْدُ أُول۪يٰهُمَا بَعَثْنَا عَلَيْكُمْ عِبَاداٗ لَّنَآ أُوْلِے بَأْسٖ شَدِيدٖ فَجَاسُواْ خِلَٰلَ اَ۬لدِّي۪ارِۖ
and it was a promise, a thing done.
وَكَانَ وَعْداٗ مَّفْعُولاٗۖ
Then We gave you back the upper hand over them, and reinforced you with goods and sons, and made you more numerous in ranks.
ثُمَّ رَدَدْنَا لَكُمُ اُ۬لْكَرَّةَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَأَمْدَدْنَٰكُم بِأَمْوَٰلٖ وَبَنِينَ وَجَعَلْنَٰكُمُۥٓ أَكْثَرَ نَفِيراًۖ
If you do well, you do well for yourselves,
اِنَ اَحْسَنتُمُۥٓ أَحْسَنتُمْ لِأَنفُسِكُمْۖ
and if you do ill, it is against yourselves.
وَإِنَ اَسَأْتُمْ فَلَهَاۖ
Then, when the promise of the second time comes, for them to stamp vexation upon your faces, to enter the place of prostration as they entered it the first time, and to devastate utterly whatever they have seized.
فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعْدُ اُ۬لَاخِرَةِ لِيَسُـُٔواْ وُجُوهَكُمْ وَلِيَدْخُلُواْ اُ۬لْمَسْجِدَ كَمَا دَخَلُوهُ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٖ وَلِيُتَبِّرُواْ مَا عَلَوْاْ تَتْبِيراًۖ
It may be that your Guardian will show you benevolence;
عَس۪ىٰ رَبُّكُمُۥٓ أَنْ يَّرْحَمَكُمْۖ
but if you repeat it, We will repeat it.
وَإِنْ عُدتُّمْ عُدْنَاۖ
And We have made Jahannam, for those who disown, an enclosure.
وَجَعَلْنَا جَهَنَّمَ لِلْكٰ۪فِرِينَ حَصِيراًۖ
This Recitation indeed guides to what is most upright, and gives the believers who do sound deeds the glad tidings that they will have a great reward, and that those who do not believe in the last life — We have made ready for them a painful punishment.
اِنَّ هَٰذَا اَ۬لْقُرْءَانَ يَهْدِے لِلتِے هِيَ أَقْوَمُ وَيُبَشِّرُ اُ۬لْمُومِنِينَ اَ۬لذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ اَ۬لصَّٰلِحَٰتِ أَنَّ لَهُمُۥٓ أَجْراٗ كَبِيراٗ وَأَنَّ اَ۬لذِينَ لَا يُومِنُونَ بِالَاخِرَةِ أَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَاباً اَلِيماٗۖ
And the human being calls for ill as he calls for good,
۞ وَيَدْعُ اُ۬لِانسَٰنُ بِالشَّرِّ دُعَآءَهُۥ بِالْخَيْرِۖ
for the human being is hasty.
وَكَانَ اَ۬لِانسَٰنُ عَجُولاٗۖ
And We have made the night and the day two signs; We blotted out the sign of the night and made the sign of the day fit for seeing clearly, so that you might seek a favor from your Guardian and know the number of years and the reckoning.
وَجَعَلْنَا اَ۬ليْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ ءَايَتَيْنِ فَمَحَوْنَآ ءَايَةَ اَ۬ليْلِ وَجَعَلْنَآ ءَايَةَ اَ۬لنَّه۪ارِ مُبْصِرَةٗ لِّتَبْتَغُواْ فَضْلاٗ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَلِتَعْلَمُواْ عَدَدَ اَ۬لسِّنِينَ وَالْحِسَابَۖ
And everything, We have set out in detail.
وَكُلَّ شَےْءٖ فَصَّلْنَٰهُ تَفْصِيلاٗۖ
And every human being, We have made him liable for his own omen; and We shall bring forth for him, on the Day of Appearance, a register which he will meet deployed:
وَكُلَّ إِنسَٰنٍ اَلْزَمْنَٰهُ طَٰٓئِرَهُۥ فِے عُنُقِهِۦ وَنُخْرِجُ لَهُۥ يَوْمَ اَ۬لْقِيَٰمَةِ كِتَٰباٗ يَلْق۪يٰهُ مَنشُوراًۖ
"Read your register: today, it suffices that you be your own reckoner."
اِ۪قْرَأْ كِتَٰبَكَ كَف۪ىٰ بِنَفْسِكَ اَ۬لْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكَ حَسِيباٗۖ
Whoever lets himself be guided lets himself be guided only for himself,
مَّنِ اِ۪هْتَد۪ىٰ فَإِنَّمَا يَهْتَدِے لِنَفْسِهِۦۖ
and whoever strays only strays against himself.
وَمَن ضَلَّ فَإِنَّمَا يَضِلُّ عَلَيْهَاۖ
And no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another.
وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٞ وِزْرَ أُخْر۪ىٰۖ
And We never punish until We have raised up a messenger.
وَمَا كُنَّا مُعَذِّبِينَ حَتَّىٰ نَبْعَثَ رَسُولاٗۖ
And when We wish to annihilate a city, We address Our commands to its affluent ones, but they overstep within it; so the saying proves true against it, and We destroy it utterly.
وَإِذَآ أَرَدْنَآ أَن نُّهْلِكَ قَرْيَةً اَمَرْنَا مُتْرَفِيهَا فَفَسَقُواْ فِيهَا فَحَقَّ عَلَيْهَا اَ۬لْقَوْلُ فَدَمَّرْنَٰهَا تَدْمِيراٗۖ
How many generations have We annihilated after Nuh!
وَكَمَ اَهْلَكْنَا مِنَ اَ۬لْقُرُونِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ نُوحٖۖ
And your Guardian suffices as Intimately Acquainted and All-Seeing regarding the offenses of His obedient ones.
وَكَف۪ىٰ بِرَبِّكَ بِذُنُوبِ عِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيراَۢ بَصِيراٗۖ
Whoever wants the immediate life, We hasten for him in it what We will, to whom We want; then We assign him Jahannam, where he will burn, reproved, driven away.
مَّن كَانَ يُرِيدُ اُ۬لْعَاجِلَةَ عَجَّلْنَا لَهُۥ فِيهَا مَا نَشَآءُ لِمَن نُّرِيدُ ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَا لَهُۥ جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَيٰهَا مَذْمُوماٗ مَّدْحُوراٗۖ
And whoever wants the last life and endeavours for it with the effort it deserves, while being a believer — those are the ones whose effort will be acknowledged.
وَمَنَ اَرَادَ اَ۬لَاخِرَةَ وَسَع۪ىٰ لَهَا سَعْيَهَا وَهُوَ مُومِنٞ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ كَانَ سَعْيُهُم مَّشْكُوراٗۖ
To all, We grant —
كُلّاٗ نُّمِدُّۖ
to these as to those — from your Guardian's endowment,
هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَهَٰٓؤُلَآءِ مِنْ عَطَآءِ رَبِّكَۖ
and your Guardian's endowment is never restricted.
وَمَا كَانَ عَطَآءُ رَبِّكَ مَحْظُوراًۖ
Look how We have favored some over others;
اُ۟نظُرْ كَيْفَ فَضَّلْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٖۖ
and the last life is indeed greater in degrees, and greater in favor.
وَلَلَاخِرَةُ أَكْبَرُ دَرَجَٰتٖ وَأَكْبَرُ تَفْضِيلاٗۖ
Do not place, alongside God, another deity, or you would find yourself reproved, abandoned.
لَّا تَجْعَلْ مَعَ اَ۬للَّهِ إِلَٰهاً اٰخَرَ فَتَقْعُدَ مَذْمُوماٗ مَّخْذُولاٗۖ
And your Guardian has decreed that you obey none but Him,
۞ وَقَض۪ىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوٓاْ إِلَّآ إِيَّاهُۖ
and beneficence toward one's two parents.
وَبِالْوَٰلِدَيْنِ إِحْسَٰناًۖ
If either of them, or both, reach old age with you, do not say to them "fie!" and do not rebuke them,
اِمَّا يَبْلُغَنَّ عِندَكَ اَ۬لْكِبَرَ أَحَدُهُمَآ أَوْ كِلَاهُمَا فَلَا تَقُل لَّهُمَآ أُفّٖ وَلَا تَنْهَرْهُمَاۖ
but speak to them a noble saying.
وَقُل لَّهُمَا قَوْلاٗ كَرِيماٗۖ
And lower for them the wing of docility, out of benevolence,
وَاخْفِضْ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ اَ۬لذُّلِّ مِنَ اَ۬لرَّحْمَةِۖ
and say: "My Guardian, have benevolence on them as they brought me up when I was small."
وَقُل رَّبِّ اِ۪رْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَٰنِے صَغِيراٗۖ
Your Guardian knows best what is in your Self.
رَّبُّكُمُۥٓ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا فِے نُفُوسِكُمُۥٓۖ
If you are sound, He is indeed, toward those ever-returning to Him, Most-Forgiving.
إِن تَكُونُواْ صَٰلِحِينَ فَإِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِلَاوَّٰبِينَ غَفُوراٗۖ
And give to the close relative his due, and to the destitute and the passing traveler,
وَءَاتِ ذَا اَ۬لْقُرْب۪ىٰ حَقَّهُۥ وَالْمِسْكِينَ وَابْنَ اَ۬لسَّبِيلِۖ
and do not squander wastefully,
وَلَا تُبَذِّرْ تَبْذِيراًۖ
for those who squander are the brothers of the Diverters,
اِنَّ اَ۬لْمُبَذِّرِينَ كَانُوٓاْ إِخْوَٰنَ اَ۬لشَّيَٰطِينِۖ
and the Diverter is, toward his Guardian, a great disowner.
وَكَانَ اَ۬لشَّيْطَٰنُ لِرَبِّهِۦ كَفُوراٗۖ
And if you must turn away from them, seeking a benevolence from your Guardian that you hope for, then speak to them an easy saying.
وَإِمَّا تُعْرِضَنَّ عَنْهُمُ اُ۪بْتِغَآءَ رَحْمَةٖ مِّن رَّبِّكَ تَرْجُوهَا فَقُل لَّهُمْ قَوْلاٗ مَّيْسُوراٗۖ
And do not keep your hand shackled to your neck, nor stretch it out completely, or you would find yourself censured, drained by desolation;
وَلَا تَجْعَلْ يَدَكَ مَغْلُولَةً اِلَىٰ عُنُقِكَ وَلَا تَبْسُطْهَا كُلَّ اَ۬لْبَسْطِ فَتَقْعُدَ مَلُوماٗ مَّحْسُوراًۖ
for your Guardian extends provision to whom He wills, and measures it;
اِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَبْسُطُ اُ۬لرِّزْقَ لِمَنْ يَّشَآءُ وَيَقْدِرُۖ
for He is, toward His obedient ones, Intimately Acquainted and All-Seeing.
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيراَۢ بَصِيراٗۖ
And do not kill your children for dread of penury:
وَلَا تَقْتُلُوٓاْ أَوْلَٰدَكُمْ خَشْيَةَ إِمْلَٰقٖۖ
it is We who provide for them, as for you,
نَّحْنُ نَرْزُقُهُمْ وَإِيَّاكُمُۥٓۖ
for killing them is a great fault.
إِنَّ قَتْلَهُمْ كَانَ خِطْـٔاٗ كَبِيراٗۖ
And do not approach fornication, for it is an indecency, and what an evil way!
وَلَا تَقْرَبُواْ اُ۬لزِّن۪ىٰٓ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فَٰحِشَةٗ وَسَآءَ سَبِيلاٗۖ
And do not kill the Self that God has made inviolable, except by right.
وَلَا تَقْتُلُواْ اُ۬لنَّفْسَ اَ۬لتِے حَرَّمَ اَ۬للَّهُ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّۖ
And whoever is killed wrongfully, We have appointed for his legal custodian an authority; but let him not be excessive in taking life,
وَمَن قُتِلَ مَظْلُوماٗ فَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا لِوَلِيِّهِۦ سُلْطَٰناٗ فَلَا يُسْرِف فِّے اِ۬لْقَتْلِۖ
for he will be helped.
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ مَنصُوراٗۖ
And do not approach the goods of the orphan, except in the most beautiful way, until he reaches his full maturity,
وَلَا تَقْرَبُواْ مَالَ اَ۬لْيَتِيمِ إِلَّا بِالتِے هِيَ أَحْسَنُ حَتَّىٰ يَبْلُغَ أَشُدَّهُۥۖ
and be faithful to the pact,
وَأَوْفُواْ بِالْعَهْدِۖ
for the pact will be questioned.
إِنَّ اَ۬لْعَهْدَ كَانَ مَسْـُٔولاٗۖ
And give the measure faithfully when you measure, and weigh with the straight scale:
وَأَوْفُواْ اُ۬لْكَيْلَ إِذَا كِلْتُمْ وَزِنُواْ بِالْقُسْطَاسِ اِ۬لْمُسْتَقِيمِۖ
that is better, and of more beautiful interpretation.
ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٞ وَأَحْسَنُ تَاوِيلاٗۖ
And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge,
۞ وَلَا تَقْفُ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلْمٌۖ
for hearing, sight, and the Conscience — each of them will be questioned.
اِنَّ اَ۬لسَّمْعَ وَالْبَصَرَ وَالْفُؤَادَ كُلُّ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ كَانَ عَنْهُ مَسْـُٔولاٗۖ
And do not walk upon the earth strutting,
وَلَا تَمْشِ فِے اِ۬لَارْضِ مَرَحاًۖ
for you will never make a hole in the earth, nor reach the mountains in height.
اِنَّكَ لَن تَخْرِقَ اَ۬لَارْضَ وَلَن تَبْلُغَ اَ۬لْجِبَالَ طُولاٗۖ
All that, its evil is, with your Guardian, detestable.
كُلُّ ذَٰلِكَ كَانَ سَيِّئَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَ مَكْرُوهاٗۖ
That is what your Guardian has revealed to you of wisdom.
ذَٰلِكَ مِمَّآ أَوْح۪ىٰٓ إِلَيْكَ رَبُّكَ مِنَ اَ۬لْحِكْمَةِۖ
And do not place, alongside God, another deity, or you would be cast into Jahannam, censured, driven away.
وَلَا تَجْعَلْ مَعَ اَ۬للَّهِ إِلَٰهاً اٰخَرَ فَتُلْق۪ىٰ فِے جَهَنَّمَ مَلُوماٗ مَّدْحُوراًۖ
Has your Guardian then reserved sons for you, and taken, among the Agents, daughters?
اَفَأَصْف۪يٰكُمْ رَبُّكُم بِالْبَنِينَ وَاتَّخَذَ مِنَ اَ۬لْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِنَٰثاًۖ
You are surely saying an immense saying.
اِنَّكُمْ لَتَقُولُونَ قَوْلاً عَظِيماٗۖ
We have indeed diversified the examples in this Recitation, so that they might remember; but it only increases their recoil.
وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا فِے هَٰذَا اَ۬لْقُرْءَانِ لِيَذَّكَّرُواْ وَمَا يَزِيدُهُمُۥٓ إِلَّا نُفُوراٗۖ
Say: "If there were, with Him, deities, as they say, they would then have sought a way to the Holder of the Edifice."
قُل لَّوْ كَانَ مَعَهُۥٓ ءَالِهَةٞ كَمَا تَقُولُونَ إِذاٗ لَّابْتَغَوِاْ اِلَىٰ ذِے اِ۬لْعَرْشِ سَبِيلاٗۖ
Glory be to Him, and He is far above what they say, in great exaltation.
سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰل۪ىٰ عَمَّا يَقُولُونَ عُلُوّاٗ كَبِيراٗۖ
The seven heavens glorify Him, as do the earth and those within it;
يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ اُ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتُ اُ۬لسَّبْعُ وَالَارْضُ وَمَن فِيهِنَّۖ
there is nothing that does not glorify Him in praise,
وَإِن مِّن شَےْءٍ اِلَّا يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِهِۦۖ
but you do not understand their glorification,
وَلَٰكِن لَّا تَفْقَهُونَ تَسْبِيحَهُمُۥٓۖ
for He is Forbearing, Most-Forgiving.
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ حَلِيماً غَفُوراٗۖ
And when you read the Recitation, We place between you and those who do not believe in the last life a hidden veil,
وَإِذَا قَرَأْتَ اَ۬لْقُرْءَانَ جَعَلْنَا بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَ اَ۬لذِينَ لَا يُومِنُونَ بِالَاخِرَةِ حِجَاباٗ مَّسْتُوراٗۖ
and We place over their cores coverings, so that they do not understand it, and in their ears a deafness.
وَجَعَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمُۥٓ أَكِنَّةً اَنْ يَّفْقَهُوهُ وَفِےٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَقْراٗۖ
And when you mention your Guardian in the Recitation, Him alone, they turn their backs in recoil.
وَإِذَا ذَكَرْتَ رَبَّكَ فِے اِ۬لْقُرْءَانِ وَحْدَهُۥ وَلَّوْاْ عَلَىٰٓ أَدْبٰ۪رِهِمْ نُفُوراٗۖ
We know best what they listen for, when they listen to you, and when they are in secret talk, when the wrongdoers say: "You follow none but a man abused by illusion."
نَّحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَسْتَمِعُونَ بِهِۦٓ إِذْ يَسْتَمِعُونَ إِلَيْكَ وَإِذْ هُمْ نَجْو۪ىٰٓ إِذْ يَقُولُ اُ۬لظَّٰلِمُونَ إِن تَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا رَجُلاٗ مَّسْحُوراًۖ
Look how they have multiplied examples about you, and so gone astray:
اُ۟نظُرْ كَيْفَ ضَرَبُواْ لَكَ اَ۬لَامْثَالَ فَضَلُّواْۖ
so they cannot find a way.
فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ سَبِيلاٗۖ
And they said: "When we are bones and crumbled remains, shall we really be raised in a new creation?"
وَقَالُوٓاْ أَ۟ذَا كُنَّا عِظَٰماٗ وَرُفَٰتاً اِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ خَلْقاٗ جَدِيداٗۖ
Say: "Be stone, or iron, or any creation that looms great in your chests."
۞ قُلْ كُونُواْ حِجَارَةً اَوْ حَدِيداً اَوْ خَلْقاٗ مِّمَّا يَكْبُرُ فِے صُدُورِكُمْۖ
They will then say: "Who will bring us back?"
فَسَيَقُولُونَ مَنْ يُّعِيدُنَاۖ
Say: "He who originated you the first time."
قُلِ اِ۬لذِے فَطَرَكُمُۥٓ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٖۖ
Then they will shake their heads at you and say: "When will that be?"
فَسَيُنْغِضُونَ إِلَيْكَ رُءُوسَهُمْ وَيَقُولُونَ مَت۪ىٰ هُوَۖ
Say: "It may be that it is near.
قُلْ عَس۪ىٰٓ أَنْ يَّكُونَ قَرِيباٗۖ
The Day He calls you, you will respond in praise of Him, and you will presume you had remained only a little while."
يَوْمَ يَدْعُوكُمْ فَتَسْتَجِيبُونَ بِحَمْدِهِۦ وَتَظُنُّونَ إِن لَّبِثْتُمُۥٓ إِلَّا قَلِيلاٗۖ
And tell My obedient ones to say what is most beautiful:
وَقُل لِّعِبَادِے يَقُولُواْ اُ۬لتِے هِيَ أَحْسَنُۖ
the Diverter sows discord among them;
إِنَّ اَ۬لشَّيْطَٰنَ يَنزَغُ بَيْنَهُمُۥٓۖ
for the Diverter is, to the human being, a manifest enemy.
إِنَّ اَ۬لشَّيْطَٰنَ كَانَ لِلِانسَٰنِ عَدُوّاٗ مُّبِيناٗۖ
Your Guardian knows you best; if He wills, He shows you benevolence, and if He wills, He punishes you.
رَّبُّكُمُۥٓ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمُۥٓۖ إِنْ يَّشَأْ يَرْحَمْكُمُۥٓ أَوِ اِنْ يَّشَأْ يُعَذِّبْكُمْۖ
We have not sent you to be their trustee.
وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَكِيلاٗۖ
Your Guardian knows best those who are in the heavens and the earth.
وَرَبُّكَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن فِے اِ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالَارْضِۖ
We have indeed favored some informants above others, and We gave Dawud a Formulary.
وَلَقَدْ فَضَّلْنَا بَعْضَ اَ۬لنَّبِيٓـِٕۧنَ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٖ وَءَاتَيْنَا دَاوُۥدَ زَبُوراٗۖ
Say: "Invoke those you claim besides Him: they possess no power to remove harm from you, nor to shift it."
قُلُ اُ۟دْعُواْ اُ۬لذِينَ زَعَمْتُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ فَلَا يَمْلِكُونَ كَشْفَ اَ۬لضُّرِّ عَنكُمْ وَلَا تَحْوِيلاًۖ
Those very ones they invoke seek, toward their Guardian, the means of nearness — whichever of them is nearest — and hope for His benevolence and fear His punishment,
ا۟وْلَٰٓئِكَ اَ۬لذِينَ يَدْعُونَ يَبْتَغُونَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمُ اُ۬لْوَسِيلَةَ أَيُّهُمُۥٓ أَقْرَبُ وَيَرْجُونَ رَحْمَتَهُۥ وَيَخَافُونَ عَذَابَهُۥٓۖ
for your Guardian's punishment is one to beware of.
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ كَانَ مَحْذُوراٗۖ
And there is not a city but We shall annihilate it before the Day of Appearance, or punish it with a severe punishment:
وَإِن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ اِلَّا نَحْنُ مُهْلِكُوهَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ اِ۬لْقِيَٰمَةِ أَوْ مُعَذِّبُوهَا عَذَاباٗ شَدِيداٗۖ
that is recorded in the register.
كَانَ ذَٰلِكَ فِے اِ۬لْكِتَٰبِ مَسْطُوراٗۖ
Nothing has kept Us from sending the signs, except that the former peoples denied them.
وَمَا مَنَعَنَآ أَن نُّرْسِلَ بِالَايَٰتِ إِلَّآ أَن كَذَّبَ بِهَا اَ۬لَاوَّلُونَۖ
And We gave the Thamud the she-camel, plainly visible, but they wronged her.
وَءَاتَيْنَا ثَمُودَ اَ۬لنَّاقَةَ مُبْصِرَةٗ فَظَلَمُواْ بِهَاۖ
And We send the signs only to frighten.
وَمَا نُرْسِلُ بِالَايَٰتِ إِلَّا تَخْوِيفاٗۖ
And when We told you that your Guardian encompasses mankind —
وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لَكَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ أَحَاطَ بِالنَّاسِۖ
We made the vision that We showed you only a trial for mankind, as also the cursed tree in this Recitation.
وَمَا جَعَلْنَا اَ۬لرُّءْيَا اَ۬لتِےٓ أَرَيْنَٰكَ إِلَّا فِتْنَةٗ لِّلنَّاسِ وَالشَّجَرَةَ اَ۬لْمَلْعُونَةَ فِے اِ۬لْقُرْءَانِۖ
And We frighten them, but it only increases their great immoderation.
وَنُخَوِّفُهُمْ فَمَا يَزِيدُهُمُۥٓ إِلَّا طُغْيَٰناٗ كَبِيراٗۖ
And when We said to the Agents: "Prostrate before Adam", they prostrated,
۞ وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ اِ۟سْجُدُواْ لِأٓدَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓاْۖ
except Iblis: he said: "Shall I prostrate before one You created from clay?"
إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ قَالَ ءَآسْجُدُ لِمَنْ خَلَقْتَ طِيناٗۖ
He said: "Do You see this one You have honored above me? If You adjourn me until the Day of Appearance, I shall surely seize his descendants, except a few."
قَالَ أَرَٰٓيْتَكَ هَٰذَا اَ۬لذِے كَرَّمْتَ عَلَيَّ لَئِنَ اَخَّرْتَنِۦٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ اِ۬لْقِيَٰمَةِ لَأَحْتَنِكَنَّ ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓ إِلَّا قَلِيلاٗۖ
He said: "Go! Whoever among them follows you — Jahannam will indeed be your recompense, an abundant recompense.
قَالَ اَ۪ذْهَبْ فَمَن تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ فَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ جَزَآؤُكُمْ جَزَآءٗ مَّوْفُوراٗۖ
And shake, by your voice, whomever you can among them; muster against them your cavalry and your infantry; share with them in goods and children; and make them promises —
وَاسْتَفْزِزْ مَنِ اِ۪سْتَطَعْتَ مِنْهُم بِصَوْتِكَ وَأَجْلِبْ عَلَيْهِم بِخَيْلِكَ وَرَجْلِكَ وَشَارِكْهُمْ فِے اِ۬لَامْوَٰلِ وَالَاوْلَٰدِ وَعِدْهُمْۖ
but the Diverter promises them only delusion.
وَمَا يَعِدُهُمُ اُ۬لشَّيْطَٰنُ إِلَّا غُرُوراًۖ
Over My obedient ones, you indeed have no authority;
اِنَّ عِبَادِے لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَٰنٞۖ
and your Guardian suffices as trustee."
وَكَف۪ىٰ بِرَبِّكَ وَكِيلاٗۖ
Your Guardian is the One who makes the vessel glide for you on the sea, so that you may seek His favor,
رَّبُّكُمُ اُ۬لذِے يُزْجِے لَكُمُ اُ۬لْفُلْكَ فِے اِ۬لْبَحْرِ لِتَبْتَغُواْ مِن فَضْلِهِۦٓۖ
for He is, toward you, Benevolent.
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيماٗۖ
And when harm touches you at sea, those you invoke stray, except Him.
وَإِذَا مَسَّكُمُ اُ۬لضُّرُّ فِے اِ۬لْبَحْرِ ضَلَّ مَن تَدْعُونَ إِلَّآ إِيَّاهُۖ
Then, when He saves you to dry land, you turn away:
فَلَمَّا نَجّ۪يٰكُمُۥٓ إِلَى اَ۬لْبَرِّ أَعْرَضْتُمْۖ
the human being is a great disowner.
وَكَانَ اَ۬لِانسَٰنُ كَفُوراًۖ
Are you then sure We will not cause a part of the dry land to swallow you, or send upon you a storm of stones, leaving you then to find no trustee? Or are you sure We will not bring you back into it another time, to send upon you a shattering wind that drowns you, for your disowning, leaving you then to find no one to pursue Us on your behalf?
اَفَأَمِنتُمُۥٓ أَنْ يَّخْسِفَ بِكُمْ جَانِبَ اَ۬لْبَرِّ أَوْ يُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ حَاصِباٗ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُواْ لَكُمْ وَكِيلاً اَمَ اَمِنتُمُۥٓ أَنْ يُّعِيدَكُمْ فِيهِ تَارَةً ا۟خْر۪ىٰ فَيُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ قَاصِفاٗ مِّنَ اَ۬لرِّيحِ فَيُغْرِقَكُم بِمَا كَفَرْتُمْ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُواْ لَكُمْ عَلَيْنَا بِهِۦ تَبِيعاٗۖ
We have indeed honored the sons of Adam, carried them on land and sea, provided them with wholesome things, and markedly favored them above many of those We have created.
۞ وَلَقَدْ كَرَّمْنَا بَنِےٓ ءَادَمَ وَحَمَلْنَٰهُمْ فِے اِ۬لْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ وَرَزَقْنَٰهُم مِّنَ اَ۬لطَّيِّبَٰتِ وَفَضَّلْنَٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ كَثِيرٖ مِّمَّنْ خَلَقْنَا تَفْضِيلاٗۖ
The Day We call every group of men with their reference,
يَوْمَ نَدْعُواْ كُلَّ أُنَاسِۢ بِإِمَٰمِهِمْۖ
whoever is given his register in his right hand — those will read their register, and not be wronged a hair's breadth.
فَمَنُ ا۟وتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ يَقْرَءُونَ كِتَٰبَهُمْ وَلَا يُظْلَمُونَ فَتِيلاٗۖ
And whoever is blind in this life will be blind in the last life, and further astray as to the way.
وَمَن كَانَ فِے هَٰذِهِۦٓ أَعْم۪ىٰ فَهُوَ فِے اِ۬لَاخِرَةِ أَعْم۪ىٰ وَأَضَلُّ سَبِيلاٗۖ
And they have surely nearly turned you away, through trial, from what We revealed to you, so that you might invent against Us something else;
وَإِن كَادُواْ لَيَفْتِنُونَكَ عَنِ اِ۬لذِےٓ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ لِتَفْتَرِيَ عَلَيْنَا غَيْرَهُۥۖ
and then, they would have taken you as an intimate friend.
وَإِذاٗ لَّاتَّخَذُوكَ خَلِيلاٗۖ
And had We not made you firm, you would indeed nigh have leaned upon them, a little.
وَلَوْلَآ أَن ثَبَّتْنَٰكَ لَقَدْ كِدتَّ تَرْكَنُ إِلَيْهِمْ شَئْاٗ قَلِيلاًۖ
We would then have made you taste the double of life and the double of death; then you would have found, against Us, no help.
اِذاٗ لَّأَذَقْنَٰكَ ضِعْفَ اَ۬لْحَيَوٰةِ وَضِعْفَ اَ۬لْمَمَاتِ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُ لَكَ عَلَيْنَا نَصِيراٗۖ
And they have surely nearly shaken you out of this land, to expel you from it —
وَإِن كَادُواْ لَيَسْتَفِزُّونَكَ مِنَ اَ۬لَارْضِ لِيُخْرِجُوكَ مِنْهَاۖ
and then, they would not have remained after you, except a little.
وَإِذاٗ لَّا يَلْبَثُونَ خَلْفَكَ إِلَّا قَلِيلاٗۖ
Such is the norm concerning those We sent before you among Our messengers,
سُنَّةَ مَن قَدَ اَرْسَلْنَا قَبْلَكَ مِن رُّسُلِنَاۖ
and you will find no shift in Our norm.
وَلَا تَجِدُ لِسُنَّتِنَا تَحْوِيلاًۖ
Maintain the Contact from the sun's decline until the darkness of night, and the Recitation of dawn,
اَقِمِ اِ۬لصَّلَوٰةَ لِدُلُوكِ اِ۬لشَّمْسِ إِلَىٰ غَسَقِ اِ۬ليْلِ وَقُرْءَانَ اَ۬لْفَجْرِۖ
for the Recitation of dawn is witnessed.
إِنَّ قُرْءَانَ اَ۬لْفَجْرِ كَانَ مَشْهُوداٗۖ
And for part of the night, keep vigil with it, as an addition for you: it may be that your Guardian will raise you to a praised station.
وَمِنَ اَ۬ليْلِ فَتَهَجَّدْ بِهِۦ نَافِلَةٗ لَّكَ عَس۪ىٰٓ أَنْ يَّبْعَثَكَ رَبُّكَ مَقَاماٗ مَّحْمُوداٗۖ
And say: "My Guardian, cause me to enter by an entrance of veracity, and cause me to exit by an exit of veracity, and appoint for me, from Yourself, a helping authority."
وَقُل رَّبِّ أَدْخِلْنِے مُدْخَلَ صِدْقٖ وَأَخْرِجْنِے مُخْرَجَ صِدْقٖ وَاجْعَل لِّے مِن لَّدُنكَ سُلْطَٰناٗ نَّصِيراٗۖ
And say: "The truth has come, and falsehood has vanished:
وَقُلْ جَآءَ اَ۬لْحَقُّ وَزَهَقَ اَ۬لْبَٰطِلُۖ
falsehood is indeed bound to vanish."
إِنَّ اَ۬لْبَٰطِلَ كَانَ زَهُوقاٗۖ
And We send down, from this Recitation, that which is healing and benevolence for the believers,
وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ اَ۬لْقُرْءَانِ مَا هُوَ شِفَآءٞ وَرَحْمَةٞ لِّلْمُومِنِينَۖ
but it only increases the wrongdoers in loss.
وَلَا يَزِيدُ اُ۬لظَّٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا خَسَاراٗۖ
And when We favor the human being with blessings, he turns away and draws away to his side;
وَإِذَآ أَنْعَمْنَا عَلَى اَ۬لِانسَٰنِ أَعْرَضَ وَنَـ۪ٔا بِجَانِبِهِۦۖ
and when ill touches him, he is hopeless.
وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ اُ۬لشَّرُّ كَانَ يَـُٔوساٗۖ
Say: "Each one acts according to his own manner; your Guardian knows best who is best guided as to the way."
قُلْ كُلّٞ يَعْمَلُ عَلَىٰ شَاكِلَتِهِۦ فَرَبُّكُمُۥٓ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ هُوَ أَهْد۪ىٰ سَبِيلاٗۖ
And they ask you about the Influx.
۞ وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ اِ۬لرُّوحِۖ
Say: "The Influx is of my Guardian's command; and you have been given of knowledge only a little."
قُلِ اِ۬لرُّوحُ مِنَ اَمْرِ رَبِّے وَمَآ أُوتِيتُم مِّنَ اَ۬لْعِلْمِ إِلَّا قَلِيلاٗۖ
And if We willed, We would surely take away what We have revealed to you; then you would find, against Us, no trustee for it — except a benevolence from your Guardian;
وَلَئِن شِئْنَا لَنَذْهَبَنَّ بِالذِےٓ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُ لَكَ بِهِۦ عَلَيْنَا وَكِيلاً اِلَّا رَحْمَةٗ مِّن رَّبِّكَۖ
for His favor toward you is great.
إِنَّ فَضْلَهُۥ كَانَ عَلَيْكَ كَبِيراٗۖ
Say: "If humans and the Occulted united to bring the equal of this Recitation, they would not bring its equal, even were they mutual support to one another."
قُل لَّئِنِ اِ۪جْتَمَعَتِ اِ۬لِانسُ وَالْجِنُّ عَلَىٰٓ أَنْ يَّاتُواْ بِمِثْلِ هَٰذَا اَ۬لْقُرْءَانِ لَا يَاتُونَ بِمِثْلِهِۦ وَلَوْ كَانَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٖ ظَهِيراٗۖ
We have indeed diversified for mankind, in this Recitation, every kind of example; but most men refused everything except disowning.
وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا لِلنَّاسِ فِے هَٰذَا اَ۬لْقُرْءَانِ مِن كُلِّ مَثَلٖ فَأَب۪ىٰٓ أَكْثَرُ اُ۬لنَّاسِ إِلَّا كُفُوراٗۖ
And they said: "We will not give you credit until you make a spring gush forth for us from the earth, or you have a garden of palm trees and vines in which you make rivers gush forth abundantly, or you make the sky tumble upon us in pieces as you claim, or you bring God and the Agents before us, or you have a house of gilding, or you ascend to the sky — and we will not give credit even to your ascent until you bring down upon us a Scripture we can read."
وَقَالُواْ لَن نُّومِنَ لَكَ حَتَّىٰ تُفَجِّرَ لَنَا مِنَ اَ۬لَارْضِ يَنۢبُوعاً اَوْ تَكُونَ لَكَ جَنَّةٞ مِّن نَّخِيلٖ وَعِنَبٖ فَتُفَجِّرَ اَ۬لَانْهَٰرَ خِلَٰلَهَا تَفْجِيراً اَوْ تُسْقِطَ اَ۬لسَّمَآءَ كَمَا زَعَمْتَ عَلَيْنَا كِسَفاً اَوْ تَاتِيَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ قَبِيلاً اَوْ يَكُونَ لَكَ بَيْتٞ مِّن زُخْرُفٍ اَوْ تَرْق۪ىٰ فِے اِ۬لسَّمَآءِ وَلَن نُّومِنَ لِرُقِيِّكَ حَتَّىٰ تُنَزِّلَ عَلَيْنَا كِتَٰباٗ نَّقْرَؤُهُۥۖ
Say: "Glory be to my Guardian! Am I anything but a human, a messenger?"
قُلْ سُبْحَٰنَ رَبِّے هَلْ كُنتُ إِلَّا بَشَراٗ رَّسُولاٗۖ
And nothing prevented mankind from believing, when guidance came to them, except that they said: "Would God have raised up a human as a messenger?"
وَمَا مَنَعَ اَ۬لنَّاسَ أَنْ يُّومِنُوٓاْ إِذْ جَآءَهُمُ اُ۬لْهُد۪ىٰٓ إِلَّآ أَن قَالُوٓاْ أَبَعَثَ اَ۬للَّهُ بَشَراٗ رَّسُولاٗۖ
Say: "Had there been on earth Agents walking about calmly, We would have sent down to them, from the sky, an Agent, as messenger."
قُل لَّوْ كَانَ فِے اِ۬لَارْضِ مَلَٰٓئِكَةٞ يَمْشُونَ مُطْمَئِنِّينَ لَنَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ اَ۬لسَّمَآءِ مَلَكاٗ رَّسُولاٗۖ
Say: "God suffices as witness between me and you,
قُلْ كَف۪ىٰ بِاللَّهِ شَهِيداَۢ بَيْنِے وَبَيْنَكُمُۥٓۖ
for He is, toward His obedient ones, Intimately Acquainted and All-Seeing."
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيراَۢ بَصِيراٗۖ
And whoever God guides, he lets himself be guided,
وَمَنْ يَّهْدِ اِ۬للَّهُ فَهُوَ اَ۬لْمُهْتَدِۦۖ
and whoever He leads astray, you will never find for them allies besides Him.
وَمَنْ يُّضْلِلْ فَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُمُۥٓ أَوْلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِهِۦۖ
And We shall gather them, on the Day of Appearance, upon their faces, blind, mute, and deaf:
وَنَحْشُرُهُمْ يَوْمَ اَ۬لْقِيَٰمَةِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ عُمْياٗ وَبُكْماٗ وَصُمّاٗۖ
their resort will be Jahannam:
مَّأْو۪يٰهُمْ جَهَنَّمُۖ
every time it dies down, We increase for them the inferno.
كُلَّمَا خَبَتْ زِدْنَٰهُمْ سَعِيراٗۖ
That is their recompense, for having disowned Our signs and said: "When we are bones and crumbled remains, shall we really be raised in a new creation?"
ذَٰلِكَ جَزَآؤُهُم بِأَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا وَقَالُوٓاْ أَ۟ذَا كُنَّا عِظَٰماٗ وَرُفَٰتاً اِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ خَلْقاٗ جَدِيداًۖ
Have they not seen that God, who created the heavens and the earth, is able to create their like, and that He has appointed for them a term about which there is no doubt?
۞ اَوَلَمْ يَرَوَاْ اَنَّ اَ۬للَّهَ اَ۬لذِے خَلَقَ اَ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالَارْضَ قَادِرٌ عَلَىٰٓ أَنْ يَّخْلُقَ مِثْلَهُمْ وَجَعَلَ لَهُمُۥٓ أَجَلاٗ لَّا رَيْبَ فِيهِۖ
But the wrongdoers refused everything except disowning.
فَأَبَى اَ۬لظَّٰلِمُونَ إِلَّا كُفُوراٗۖ
Say: "If you possessed the treasuries of my Guardian's benevolence, you would then hold them back, for dread of spending."
قُل لَّوَ اَنتُمْ تَمْلِكُونَ خَزَآئِنَ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّيَ إِذاٗ لَّأَمْسَكْتُمْ خَشْيَةَ اَ۬لِانفَاقِۖ
The human being is stingy.
وَكَانَ اَ۬لِانسَٰنُ قَتُوراٗۖ
We have indeed given Moussa nine clear signs:
وَلَقَدَ اٰتَيْنَا مُوس۪ىٰ تِسْعَ ءَايَٰتِۢ بَيِّنَٰتٖۖ
so ask the Sons of Israel: when he came to them, Fir'awn said to him: "I presume you are surely abused by illusion, O Moussa."
فَسْـَٔلْ بَنِےٓ إِسْرَآءِيلَ إِذْ جَآءَهُمْ فَقَالَ لَهُۥ فِرْعَوْنُ إِنِّے لَأَظُنُّكَ يَٰمُوس۪ىٰ مَسْحُوراٗۖ
He said: "You indeed know that none but the Guardian of the heavens and the earth has sent down these enlightening proofs,
قَالَ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَآ أَنزَلَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ الَّا رَبُّ اُ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالَارْضِ بَصَآئِرَۖ
and I presume you are surely ruined, O Fir'awn."
وَإِنِّے لَأَظُنُّكَ يَٰفِرْعَوْنُ مَثْبُوراٗۖ
He then wanted to shake them out of that land; but We drowned him, and all those with him.
فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَّسْتَفِزَّهُم مِّنَ اَ۬لَارْضِ فَأَغْرَقْنَٰهُ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥ جَمِيعاٗۖ
And We said after him to the Sons of Israel: "Dwell in this land,
وَقُلْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ لِبَنِےٓ إِسْرَآءِيلَ اَ۟سْكُنُواْ اُ۬لَارْضَۖ
then, when the promise of the second time comes, We shall bring you all together, intertwined."
فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعْدُ اُ۬لَاخِرَةِ جِئْنَا بِكُمْ لَفِيفاٗۖ
And with truth We sent it down,
وَبِالْحَقِّ أَنزَلْنَٰهُۖ
and with truth it descended;
وَبِالْحَقِّ نَزَلَۖ
and We have sent you only as a bearer of good tidings and a warner.
وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّراٗ وَنَذِيراٗۖ
And a Recitation that We have divided, so that you read it to mankind gradually,
وَقُرْءَاناٗ فَرَقْنَٰهُ لِتَقْرَأَهُۥ عَلَى اَ۬لنَّاسِ عَلَىٰ مُكْثٖۖ
and We have sent it down by successive stages.
وَنَزَّلْنَٰهُ تَنزِيلاٗۖ
Say: "Believe in it, or do not believe:
قُلَ اٰمِنُواْ بِهِۦٓ أَوْ لَا تُومِنُوٓاْۖ
those to whom knowledge was given before it, when it is recited to them, fall prostrate on their chins, saying: 'Glory be to our Guardian! Our Guardian's promise is surely a thing done.'
إِنَّ اَ۬لذِينَ أُوتُواْ اُ۬لْعِلْمَ مِن قَبْلِهِۦٓ إِذَا يُتْل۪ىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ يَخِرُّونَ لِلَاذْقَانِ سُجَّداٗ وَيَقُولُونَ سُبْحَٰنَ رَبِّنَآ إِن كَانَ وَعْدُ رَبِّنَا لَمَفْعُولاٗۖ
And they fall on their chins, weeping, and it increases their humility."
وَيَخِرُّونَ لِلَاذْقَانِ يَبْكُونَ وَيَزِيدُهُمْ خُشُوعاٗۖ۩
Say: "Invoke God, or invoke the All-Benevolent:
قُلُ اُ۟دْعُواْ اُ۬للَّهَ أَوُ اُ۟دْعُواْ اُ۬لرَّحْمَٰنَۖ
whichever you invoke, to Him belong the most beautiful attributes."
أَيّاٗ مَّا تَدْعُواْ فَلَهُ اُ۬لَاسْمَآءُ اُ۬لْحُسْن۪ىٰۖ
And do not speak too loudly in your Contact, nor say it in an undertone either: seek, between the two, a way.
وَلَا تَجْهَرْ بِصَلَاتِكَ وَلَا تُخَافِتْ بِهَا وَابْتَغِ بَيْنَ ذَٰلِكَ سَبِيلاٗۖ
And say: "Praise be to God, who has not taken a child, who has no associate in the dominion, and who has no protector against humiliation,"
وَقُلِ اِ۬لْحَمْدُ لِلهِ اِ۬لذِے لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ وَلَداٗ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ شَرِيكٞ فِے اِ۬لْمُلْكِ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ وَلِيّٞ مِّنَ اَ۬لذُّلِّۖ
and proclaim His greatness, fully.
وَكَبِّرْهُ تَكْبِيراًۖ
