Al-Mu'minun

  • In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. The believers have attained success,i 1
  • those who, in their Contact, are humble, 2
  • and those who turn away from frivolity, 3
  • and those who fulfill the purifying alms,i 4
  • and those who guard their private parts, except with their spouses or those bound by pledge — for then they are not blameworthy; 6
  • whoever seeks beyond that — those are the transgressors. 7
  • and those who are watchful over their trusts and their covenant,i 8
  • And those who, toward their Contacts, are watchful — those are the inheritors, who will inherit Paradise,i 11
  • abiding therein forever.i 11
  • We created the human being from an extract of clay, 12
  • then We made him a drop in a secure receptacle, 13
  • then We created from the drop a clinging form, then We created from the clinging form a lump, then We created from the lump bones, then We clothed the bones with flesh, then We brought it forth as another creation. 14
  • Blessed is God, the best of creators! 14
  • Then, after that, you are destined to die, 15
  • then, on the Day of Appearance, you will be raised.i 16
  • We created above you seven passages, 17
  • and We have never been heedless of creation. 17
  • We sent down from the sky water in due measure, and We settled it in the earth — 18
  • and We are indeed able to take it away. 18
  • We thus brought forth for you, through it, gardens of palms and vines, wherein you have abundant fruits and from which you eat, and a tree that comes out of Mount Sinai, producing oil and a condiment for those who eat. 20
  • And there is indeed, for you, a lesson in the livestock: 21
  • We give you drink from what is in their bellies, 21
  • and you have in them many benefits, and you eat from them, and upon them as well as upon ships you are carried. 22
  • We sent Nuh to his people, and he said: O my people, obey God, you have no deity other than Him.i 23
  • Will you not then guard yourselves? 23
  • The court of his people, those who denied, then said: This is nothing but a human being like you, who wants to gain superiority over you; had God willed, He would have sent down Agents; we have not heard this among our first ancestors. He is nothing but a man afflicted with derangement — so wait concerning him for a while.i 25
  • He said [Nuh]: My Guardian, help me, for they have denied me.i 26
  • We then revealed to him: Build the ark under Our eyes and by Our revelation. 27
  • Then, when Our command comes and the oven boils over, put into it a pair of every kind, along with your family, except him among them against whom the word has already been pronounced; 27
  • and do not address Me concerning those who have done injustice, for they are to be drowned. 27
  • And when you are settled, you and those with you, upon the ark, say: Praise be to God who has saved us from the unjust people. 28
  • And say: My Guardian, grant me a blessed dwelling, for You are the best of those who grant a dwelling.i 29
  • There are indeed signs in that, 30
  • and We were indeed putting [that people] to the test. 30
  • Then We brought forth, after them, another generation, and We sent among them a messenger, [one] of themselves: Obey God, you have no deity other than Him. 32
  • Will you not then guard yourselves? 32
  • The court of his people, those who denied and treated the meeting of the hereafter as a lie, and to whom We had given ease in the present life, said: This is nothing but a human being like you, who eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink; and if you obey a human being like you, you will then indeed be losers. Does he promise you that, once dead and become dust and bones, you will be raised up? Far, far indeed is what you are promised! There is nothing but our present life, we die and we live, and we will not be raised up! He is nothing but a man who has invented a lie against God, and we will not believe him. 38
  • He said [the messenger]: My Guardian, help me, for they have denied me. 39
  • He said [God]: A little while yet, and they will surely become full of regret. 40
  • The cry then seized them in all truth, and We made them into debris [scattered on the surface]. 41
  • Far removed then be the unjust people! 41
  • Then We brought forth, after them, other generations. 42
  • No community precedes its term, nor does it delay it.i 43
  • Then We sent Our messengers, one after another. 44
  • Every time a messenger came to a community, it treated him as a liar; 44
  • We thus made them follow one another, and We made them into narrated tales. 44
  • Far removed then be a people that does not believe! 44
  • Then We sent Moussa and his brother Harun, with Our signs and a clear authority, to Fir'awn and his court; but they swelled with pride and were a haughty people,i 46
  • and they said: Shall we believe in two human beings like ourselves, while their people are in our service? 47
  • They treated them as liars, and were thus among those destroyed. 48
  • We gave Moussa the Scripture, that they might be guided.i 49
  • And We made the son of Maryam and his mother a sign,i 50
  • and We sheltered them toward a height endowed with stability and a spring.i 50
  • O messengers, eat of the good things and act righteously — 51
  • I am, of what you do, fully informed. 51
  • And this community of yours is a single community, 52
  • and I am your Guardian: so guard yourselves toward Me. 52
  • But they split, concerning their affair, into divided factions, 53
  • each faction rejoicing in what it holds. 53
  • So leave them in their [state of] daze, for a while. 54
  • Do they think that, what We grant them of wealth and children, We hasten toward them with good things? 56
  • No, they do not perceive. 56
  • Those who, out of reverent awe of their Guardian, are watchful, and those who believe in the signs of their Guardian, and those who associate nothing with their Guardian, and those who give what they give, their core trembling [at the thought] that they are returning to their Guardian — those hasten toward good things, 61
  • and they are foremost in that. 61
  • And We do not burden a Self beyond its capacity, 62
  • and We have a record that speaks with truth, and they will not be wronged.i 62
  • But their core is in a [dark] blindness about this, 63
  • and they have, apart from that, deeds 63
  • which they will continue to commit — 63
  • until, when We seize their privileged ones with punishment, there they are, crying out in distress. 64
  • Do not cry out today, 65
  • you will not be helped by Us. 65
  • My signs were indeed recited to you, and you turned back on your heels, swelling with pride about them, 67
  • conversing by night [about them], speaking ill of it. 67
  • Have they then not pondered the word, or has there come to them what did not come to their first ancestors? 68
  • Or did they not recognize their messenger, to the point that they disown him? 69
  • Or do they say that he is afflicted with derangement? 70
  • No, he has come to them with the truth, 70
  • but most of them have an aversion to the truth. 70
  • And had the truth followed their emotions, the heavens, the earth, and those therein would have been corrupted. 71
  • No, We have brought them their own Reminder, 71
  • but they turn away from their Reminder. 71
  • Or do you ask them for a tribute? 72
  • The tribute of your Guardian is better, 72
  • and He is the best of providers. 72
  • And you indeed call them toward a straight path; 73
  • but those who do not believe in the hereafter indeed deviate from that path. 74
  • And if We had benevolence on them and removed from them the harm that afflicts them, they would persist, blinded, in their tyranny. 75
  • We did seize them with punishment, yet they did not submit to their Guardian, nor did they humbly plead, 76
  • until, when We open upon them a gate of severe punishment, there they are, in despair. 77
  • And He is the One who brought forth for you hearing, sight, and Conscience. 78
  • How little you are grateful! 78
  • And He is the One who has scattered you upon the earth, and it is to Him that you will be gathered. 79
  • And He is the One who gives life and gives death, 80
  • and to Him belongs the alternation of night and day. 80
  • Will you not then reason? 80
  • But they said the same thing that the ancients used to say; they said: Is it that, once dead and become dust and bones, we will be raised up? 82
  • We were promised this, we and our ancestors, before already; 83
