The book opens with a request, then reads in twelve sections. Each opens with one or two families of isolated letters (the exposition), followed by suras without letters (the continuation); some close on a sura of praise (the closing). For each sura: its original name, a name drawn word for word from the sura, and its number; the indent of the line shows its role in the section. A mark points out the sura that serves as the threshold of a family of letters.
