An Amazing Recitation
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Say, "It has been revealed to me that a group of the Occulted listened, and they said: Indeed, we have heard an amazing recitation, that guides to rectitude, so we have believed in it, and we will never associate anyone with our Guardian.
And exalted is the majesty of our Guardian; He has not taken a consort nor a child.
And the foolish among us used to speak, against God, excessive words.
And we thought that mankind and the Occulted would never speak against God a lie.
And there were men among mankind who took refuge in men among the Occulted, and they only increased them in burden.
And they thought, as you thought, that God would never raise anyone up.
And we touched the sky and found it filled with mighty guards and burning stars.
And we used to sit in stations for listening, but whoever listens now will find a burning star lying in wait for him.
And we do not know whether evil is intended for those on earth, or whether their Guardian intends for them rectitude.
And among us are the righteous, and among us are others not so:
وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلصَّٰلِحُونَ وَمِنَّا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ we were of divided ways.
And we thought that we would never cause failure to God upon earth, nor by fleeing could we cause Him failure.
And when we heard the guidance, we believed in it,
وَأَنَّا لَمَّا سَمِعْنَا ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦ and whoever believes in his Guardian will fear neither loss nor burden.
And among us are those true to God alone, and among us are the deviant:
وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلْمُسْلِمُونَ وَمِنَّا ٱلْقَٰسِطُونَ and whoever is true to God alone, those have sought rectitude,
فَمَنْ أَسْلَمَ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ تَحَرَّوْا۟ رَشَدًۭاbut as for the deviant, they became firewood for Jahannam.
And that, if they had remained straight on the path, We would have given them abundant water to drink, that We might try them thereby.
And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Guardian, He will put him into an ever-mounting punishment.
And that the places of prostration belong to God, so do not invoke besides God anyone.
And that when the obedient one of God stood up calling upon Him, they almost crowded him in dense multitude.
Say, "I only invoke my Guardian and do not associate with Him anyone."
Say, "I hold for you neither harm nor rectitude."
Say, "No one can protect me from God, and I will never find besides Him a refuge — except a transmission from God and His messages."
And whoever disobeys God and His messenger, indeed, for him is the fire of Jahannam, abiding therein forever.
Until, when they see that which they are promised, they will know who is weaker in helpers and less in number.
Say, "I do not know whether what you are promised is near, or whether my Guardian will set for it a term."
[He is] Knower of what escapes the senses, and He discloses none of it to anyone, except a messenger He has approved of. He then sends before him and behind him a watch, so that He may know that they have conveyed the messages of their Guardian; and He encompasses whatever is with them and enumerates all things with exactness.
