The Usurped Title
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. By those who tear away, submerging, those who release gently, those who glide swiftly, those who race ahead, those who govern the affair — the Day the first quaking quakes, followed by the one that comes after,
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم والنزعت غرقا والنشطت نشطا والسبحت سبحا فالسبقت سبقا فالمدبرت امرا يوم ترجف الراجفه تتبعها الرادفهcores, that Day, will tremble, their eyes humble.
قلوب يوميذ واجفه ابصرها خشعهThey say, "Are we indeed to be returned to our former state, once we have become decayed bones?"
يقولون انا لمردودون في الحافره اذا كنا عظما نخرهThey say, "That, then, would be a losing return!" Yet it will be but a single rumbling blast, and there they are, upon the surface of the earth.
قالوا تلك اذا كره خاسره فانما هي زجره وحده فاذا هم بالساهرهHas the story of Moussa reached you? When his Guardian called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa,
هل اتيك حديث موسي اذ ناديه ربه بالواد المقدس طوي"Go to Fir'awn; indeed, he has exceeded all measure. And say to him, 'Would you [be willing] to purify yourself, that I may guide you to your Guardian, so that you may hold Him in awe?'"
اذهب الي فرعون انه طغي فقل هل لك الي ان تزكي واهديك الي ربك فتخشيSo he showed him the greatest sign; but he denied and disobeyed. Then he turned his back, striving, and gathered [his people], and called out, and said, "I am your master, the Most High." So God seized him with the exemplary punishment of the last and the first.
فاريه الايه الكبري فكذب وعصي ثم ادبر يسعي فحشر فنادي فقال انا ربكم الاعلي فاخذه الله نكال الاخره والاوليIndeed, in that is a lesson for whoever holds [Him] in awe.
ان في ذلك لعبره لمن يخشيAre you more difficult to create, or is the sky?
انتم اشد خلقا ام السماHe built it, raised its vault, and balanced it; and He darkened its night and brought forth its morning light.
بنيها رفع سمكها فسويها واغطش ليلها واخرج ضحيهاAnd the earth, after that, He made it hatch forth: He brought forth from it its water and its pasture, and the mountains, He anchored them — as provision for you and your livestock.
والارض بعد ذلك دحيها اخرج منها ماها ومرعيها والجبال ارسيها متعا لكم ولانعمكمThen, when the greatest Overwhelming Event comes — the Day the human being will remember what he strove for, and the Blaze will be laid open for all to see,
فاذا جات الطامه الكبري يوم يتذكر الانسن ما سعي وبرزت الجحيم لمن يريas for him who exceeded all measure and preferred the present life, then the Blaze will be his refuge;
فاما من طغي واثر الحيوه الدنيا فان الجحيم هي الماويbut as for him who feared standing before his Guardian, and forbade the Self emotion, then the Garden will be his refuge.
واما من خاف مقام ربه ونهي النفس عن الهوي فان الجنه هي الماويThey ask you about the Hour: when will it drop anchor?
يسلونك عن الساعه ايان مرسيهاWhat have you to do with mentioning it?
فيم انت من ذكريهاTo your Guardian is its final boundary.
الي ربك منتهيهاYou are only the warner of whoever holds it in awe.
انما انت منذر من يخشيهاIt will seem to them, the Day they see it, as though they had remained no more than an evening, or its morning.
كانهم يوم يرونها لم يلبثوا الا عشيه او ضحيها
