Al-Mutaffifin
The Rigged Measure
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Woe to the defrauders, who, when they take a measure from people, exact full measure, and when they measure or weigh for them, cause loss.
Do they not think that they will be resurrected for an immense Day, the Day when mankind will stand before the Guardian of all beings?
By no means! Surely, the record of the depraved is in Sijjin.
And what will make you know what Sijjin is? A written record.
Woe, that Day, to the deniers, those who deny the Day of Retribution.
And none denies it except every crosser of limits, a transgressor; when Our signs are read to him, he says, "Legends of the ancients!"
By no means! Rather, what they were earning has rusted their cores.
By no means! Surely, from their Guardian, that Day, they will be veiled.
Then surely, they will burn in the Blaze.
Then it will be said, "This is what you used to deny."
By no means! Surely, the record of the virtuous is in 'Illiyyun.
And what will make you know what 'Illiyyun is? A written record, witnessed by those brought near.
Surely, the virtuous will be in bliss, on adorned couches, observing; you will recognize in their faces the radiance of bliss; they will be given drink from a sealed nectar, whose seal is musk.
And for this let the competitors compete.
And its mixture is of Tasnim, a spring from which those brought near drink.
Indeed, those who cut themselves off used to laugh at those who believed, and when they passed by them, they winked at one another, and when they returned to their people, they returned delighting, and when they saw them, they said, "Indeed, these are truly astray" — while they had not been sent as guardians over them.
So today those who believed are laughing at the disowners, upon adorned couches.
Observing: have the disowners received the return of what they used to do?
