سورة 15
۞
Al-Hijr
-
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Alif. Lam. Ra.i 1
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم الر -
These are the signs of the Scripture, and of a clear Recitation.i 1
تلك ايت الكتب وقران مبين -
It may often be that those who deny wish they had been true to God alone.i 2
ربما يود الذين كفروا لو كانوا مسلمين -
Leave them to eat, enjoy themselves, and let hope distract them: 3
ذرهم ياكلوا ويتمتعوا ويلههم الامل -
they will soon know. 3
فسوف يعلمون -
without it having had, concerning it, a known register.i 4
وما اهلكنا من قريه الا ولها كتاب معلوم -
No community precedes its term, nor delays it.i 5
ما تسبق من امه اجلها وما يستخرون -
And they said: "O you upon whom the Reminder has been sent down, you are indeed deranged! Why do you not bring us the Agents, if you are among the truthful?"i 7
وقالوا يايها الذي نزل عليه الذكر انك لمجنون لو ما تاتينا بالمليكه ان كنت من الصدقين -
We do not send down the Agents except with truth,i 8
ما ننزل المليكه الا بالحق -
and then, they would be granted no reprieve. 8
وما كانوا اذا منظرين -
It is indeed We who have sent down the Reminder,i 9
انا نحن نزلنا الذكر -
and it is We who are indeed its preservers. 9
وانا له لحفظون -
We have indeed sent, before you, [messengers] among the factions of the ancients,i 10
ولقد ارسلنا من قبلك في شيع الاولين -
and no messenger came to them without their mocking him. 11
وما ياتيهم من رسول الا كانوا به يستهزون -
Thus We insinuate it into the Cores of the severed: they do not believe in it, though the precedent of the ancients has already come to pass.i 13
كذلك نسلكه في قلوب المجرمين لا يومنون به وقد خلت سنه الاولين -
And even if We opened for them a gate of the sky, through which they kept ascending, they would say: "Our sight is only obnubilated; we are rather a people abused by illusion."i 15
ولو فتحنا عليهم بابا من السما فظلوا فيه يعرجون لقالوا انما سكرت ابصرنا بل نحن قوم مسحورون -
We have indeed placed in the sky constellations, and adorned them for those who look, and preserved them from every banished Diverter — except one who steals a furtive hearing, and is then pursued by a clear, blazing projectile.i 18
ولقد جعلنا في السما بروجا وزينها للنظرين وحفظنها من كل شيطن رجيم الا من استرق السمع فاتبعه شهاب مبين -
And the earth, We spread it out, and cast upon it firmly-anchored mountains, and caused to grow upon it everything in due measure, and We gave you therein means of livelihood,i 20
والارض مددنها والقينا فيها روسي وانبتنا فيها من كل شي موزون وجعلنا لكم فيها معيش -
as well as to those you do not provide for. 20
ومن لستم له برزقين -
There is nothing whose treasures We do not hold, 21
وان من شي الا عندنا خزاينه -
and We send it down only according to a known measure. 21
وما ننزله الا بقدر معلوم -
And We sent the fecundating winds, and then sent down from the sky a water with which We gave you drink, and which you do not hold in reserve.i 22
وارسلنا الريح لوقح فانزلنا من السما ما فاسقينكموه وما انتم له بخزنين -
And it is indeed We who give life and give death, and it is We who are the heirs. 23
وانا لنحن نحي ونميت ونحن الورثون -
We indeed know those among you who go first, and We indeed know those who lag behind.i 24
ولقد علمنا المستقدمين منكم ولقد علمنا المستخرين -
And it is your Guardian who will gather them: 25
وان ربك هو يحشرهم -
He is Wise, Knowing. 25
انه حكيم عليم -
We have indeed created the human being from resonant clay, like pottery, [drawn] from molded mud,i 26
ولقد خلقنا الانسن من صلصل من حما مسنون -
and the Occulted, We had created them before, from a fire of scorching wind.i 27
والجان خلقنه من قبل من نار السموم -
And [recall] when your Guardian said to the Agents: "I am going to create a human being from resonant clay, like pottery, [drawn] from molded mud; when I have formed him and breathed into him of My Influx, fall down before him in prostration."i 29
واذ قال ربك للمليكه اني خلق بشرا من صلصل من حما مسنون فاذا سويته ونفخت فيه من روحي فقعوا له سجدين -
The Agents then prostrated, all together, except the Despairing One [Iblis]: he refused to be among those who prostrated.i 31
فسجد المليكه كلهم اجمعون الا ابليس ابي ان يكون مع السجدين -
He said: "O Iblis, what is with you, that you are not among those who prostrate?"i 32
قال يابليس ما لك الا تكون مع السجدين -
He said: "I am not [made] to prostrate before a human being You created from resonant clay, like pottery, [drawn] from molded mud." 33
قال لم اكن لاسجد لبشر خلقته من صلصل من حما مسنون -
He said: "Get out of here, for you are now banished, and the banishment will weigh upon you until the Day of Retribution."i 35
قال فاخرج منها فانك رجيم وان عليك اللعنه الي يوم الدين -
He said: "My Guardian, grant me then a respite until the day they are raised up." 36
قال رب فانظرني الي يوم يبعثون -
He said: "You are then among those granted a respite, until the day of the known moment." 38
قال فانك من المنظرين الي يوم الوقت المعلوم -
He said: "My Guardian, for having let me go astray, I shall surely make [evil] appear pleasing to them on earth, and I shall surely mislead them all, except Your obedient ones among them who are purified."i 40
قال رب بما اغويتني لازينن لهم في الارض ولاغوينهم اجمعين الا عبادك منهم المخلصين -
He said: "This is a path incumbent upon Me, a straight path. 41
قال هذا صرط علي مستقيم -
Over My obedient ones, you have no authority, except over whoever follows you among the misled."i 42
ان عبادي ليس لك عليهم سلطن الا من اتبعك من الغاوين -
And Jahannam is indeed their meeting-place, all of them; it has seven gates, 44
وان جهنم لموعدهم اجمعين لها سبعه ابوب -
to each gate belongs a determined portion of them. 44
لكل باب منهم جز مقسوم -
Those who guarded themselves will be in gardens and springs: "Enter therein in peace, in security." 46
ان المتقين في جنت وعيون ادخلوها بسلم امنين -
And We shall have removed from their chests all rancor,i 47
ونزعنا ما في صدورهم من غل -
[they will be] brothers, upon couches, facing one another. 47
اخونا علي سرر متقبلين -
No fatigue will touch them therein, 48
لا يمسهم فيها نصب -
and they will never be expelled from it. 48
وما هم منها بمخرجين -
Inform My obedient ones that it is I, the Most-Forgiving, the Benevolent, and that My punishment is the painful punishment. 50
نبي عبادي اني انا الغفور الرحيم وان عذابي هو العذاب الاليم -
And inform them about the guests of Ibrahim, when they entered upon him and said: "Peace!"i 52
ونبيهم عن ضيف ابرهيم اذ دخلوا عليه فقالوا سلما -
He said: "We are, of you, apprehensive."i 52
قال انا منكم وجلون -
They said: "Do not be apprehensive: we bring you glad tidings of a knowledgeable boy." 53
قالوا لا توجل انا نبشرك بغلم عليم -
He said: "Do you give me this glad tiding, when old age has touched me? Of what then do you give me tidings?" 54
قال ابشرتموني علي ان مسني الكبر فبم تبشرون -
They said: "We bring you this glad tiding in truth: so do not be among those who despair."i 55
قالوا بشرنك بالحق فلا تكن من القنطين -
He said: "And who despairs of his Guardian's benevolence, except the astray?" 56
قال ومن يقنط من رحمه ربه الا الضالون -
He said: "What then is your errand, O envoys?" 57
قال فما خطبكم ايها المرسلون -
They said: "We are sent to a severed people, except the family of Lut.i 59
قالوا انا ارسلنا الي قوم مجرمين الا ال لوط -
We shall surely save them all, except his wife: We have determined that she is indeed among those who remain behind."i 60
انا لمنجوهم اجمعين الا امراته قدرنا انها لمن الغبرين -
And when the envoys came to the family of Lut, he said: "You are people I do not recognize."i 62
فلما جا ال لوط المرسلون قال انكم قوم منكرون -
They said: "We bring you rather that about which they were in doubt. We have come to you with the truth, and we are indeed truthful. 64
قالوا بل جينك بما كانوا فيه يمترون واتينك بالحق وانا لصدقون -
So depart with your family, at a time of the night, and follow behind them, and let none of you turn around, and go where you are commanded."i 65
فاسر باهلك بقطع من اليل واتبع ادبرهم ولا يلتفت منكم احد وامضوا حيث تومرون -
And We conveyed to him this decree: the last remnant of those people would be cut off, by morning.i 66
وقضينا اليه ذلك الامر ان دابر هولا مقطوع مصبحين -
And the people of the Capital came, rejoicing.i 67
وجا اهل المدينه يستبشرون -
He said: "These are my guests: do not disgrace me, 68
قال ان هولا ضيفي فلا تفضحون -
and guard yourselves before God, and do not humiliate me." 69
واتقوا الله ولا تخزون -
They said: "Did we not forbid you [to receive] anyone from among all beings?"i 70
قالوا اولم ننهك عن العلمين -
He said: "Here are my daughters, if you must act."i 71
قال هولا بناتي ان كنتم فعلين -
By your life, they were indeed wandering, blinded, in their intoxication.i 72
لعمرك انهم لفي سكرتهم يعمهون -
The Cry then seized them at daybreak, and We made the top [of their city] its bottom, and rained upon them stones of hardened clay.i 74
فاخذتهم الصيحه مشرقين فجعلنا عليها سافلها وامطرنا عليهم حجاره من سجيل -
There are indeed in that signs for those who can read the marks.i 75
ان في ذلك لايت للمتوسمين -
And it is indeed upon a path that endures. 76
وانها لبسبيل مقيم -
There is indeed in that a sign for the believers. 77
ان في ذلك لايه للمومنين -
And the companions of the Thicket were indeed unjust,i 78
وان كان اصحب الايكه لظلمين -
so We took vengeance upon them, 79
فانتقمنا منهم -
and these two [cities] are indeed upon a manifest path.i 79
وانهما لبامام مبين -
The companions of al-Hijr indeed denied the messengers,i 80
ولقد كذب اصحب الحجر المرسلين -
And We gave them Our signs, but they turned away from them. 81
واتينهم ايتنا فكانوا عنها معرضين -
And they carved, in the mountains, houses, in complete security. 82
وكانوا ينحتون من الجبال بيوتا امنين -
The Cry then seized them in the morning, 83
فاخذتهم الصيحه مصبحين -
and what they had earned availed them nothing. 84
فما اغني عنهم ما كانوا يكسبون -
We created the heavens, the earth, and what is between them, only with truth. 85
وما خلقنا السموت والارض وما بينهما الا بالحق -
And the Hour is indeed coming: 85
وان الساعه لاتيه -
so overlook, with a fine overlooking.i 85
فاصفح الصفح الجميل -
Your Guardian is indeed the Great Creator, the Knowing. 86
ان ربك هو الخلق العليم -
We have indeed given you seven iterative [verses], and the immense Recitation.i 87
ولقد اتينك سبعا من المثاني والقران العظيم -
Do not extend your eyes toward what We have granted some pairs among them to enjoy,i 88
لا تمدن عينيك الي ما متعنا به ازوجا منهم -
and do not grieve over them, 88
ولا تحزن عليهم -
and lower your wing for the believers. 88
واخفض جناحك للمومنين -
And say: "I am, indeed, the clear warner" — as We sent it down upon those who divided it, those who made of this Recitation disparate fragments.i 91
وقل اني انا النذير المبين كما انزلنا علي المقتسمين الذين جعلوا القران عضين -
By your Guardian, We shall surely question them all about what they used to do. 93
فوربك لنسلنهم اجمعين عما كانوا يعملون -
So proclaim openly what you are commanded,i 94
فاصدع بما تومر -
and turn away from those who associate. 94
واعرض عن المشركين -
We have indeed sufficed you against the mockers, those who place, alongside God, another deity: 96
انا كفينك المستهزين الذين يجعلون مع الله الها اخر -
they will soon know. 96
فسوف يعلمون -
We shall indeed know that your chest tightens from what they say:i 97
ولقد نعلم انك يضيق صدرك بما يقولون -
so glorify, in praise, [the glory of] your Guardian, and be among those who prostrate, 98
فسبح بحمد ربك وكن من السجدين -
and obey your Guardian until certainty comes to you.i 99
واعبد ربك حتي ياتيك اليقين
