Sourate An-Najm (53) original (rasm)

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Benevolent. By the star when it sets: your companion has not strayed, nor has he erred. He does not speak from emotion — it is nothing but a revelation revealed.i 4

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم والنجم اذا هوي ما ضل صاحبكم وما غوي وما ينطق عن الهوي ان هو الا وحي يوحي

One of intense strength, of sound vigor, taught him, 6

علمه شديد القوي ذو مره

then he appeared in his full stature, at the highest horizon. 7

فاستوي وهو بالافق الاعلي

Then he drew near, and came closer still, until he was at the distance of two bow-lengths, or nearer. 9

ثم دنا فتدلي فكان قاب قوسين او ادني

He then revealed to His obedient one what He revealed. 10

فاوحي الي عبده ما اوحي

The Conscience did not lie about what it saw.i 11

ما كذب الفواد ما راي

Will you then dispute with him over what he sees? 12

افتمرونه علي ما يري

He saw him, in truth, another time, near the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary — near which lies the Garden of Refuge — when the Lote Tree was enveloped by what enveloped it. 16

ولقد راه نزله اخري عند سدره المنتهي عندها جنه الماوي اذ يغشي السدره ما يغشي

The gaze did not turn aside, nor did it transgress. 17

ما زاغ البصر وما طغي

He saw, in truth, one of the greatest signs of his Guardian. 18

لقد راي من ايت ربه الكبري

Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-Uzza, and Manat, the third, the other? Would the male be for you, and for Him the female? 21

افريتم اللت والعزي ومنوه الثالثه الاخري الكم الذكر وله الانثي

That, then, would be an unjust division. 22

تلك اذا قسمه ضيزي

They are nothing but names you have invented, you and your forefathers; God has sent down no authority for them. 23

ان هي الا اسما سميتموها انتم واباوكم ما انزل الله بها من سلطن

They follow nothing but conjecture, and what the Selves desire. 23

ان يتبعون الا الظن وما تهوي الانفس

Though guidance has indeed come to them from their Guardian. 23

ولقد جاهم من ربهم الهدي

Or does the human being get whatever he wishes? 24

ام للانسن ما تمني

For to God belong the last and the first. 25

فلله الاخره والاولي

How many Agents are there in the heavens whose intercession avails nothing, except after God has permitted it, for whom He wills and approves.i 26

وكم من ملك في السموت لا تغني شفعتهم شيا الا من بعد ان ياذن الله لمن يشا ويرضي

Those who do not believe in the Hereafter indeed give the Agents archetypes of the feminine.i 27

ان الذين لا يومنون بالاخره ليسمون المليكه تسميه الانثي

Yet they have no knowledge of it. 28

وما لهم به من علم

They follow nothing but conjecture. 28

ان يتبعون الا الظن

And conjecture avails nothing against the truth. 28

وان الظن لا يغني من الحق شيا

So turn away from whoever has turned away from Our Reminder and desired nothing but the present life. 29

فاعرض عن من تولي عن ذكرنا ولم يرد الا الحيوه الدنيا

That is the extent of their knowledge. 30

ذلك مبلغهم من العلم

Your Guardian indeed knows best who has strayed from His way, 30

ان ربك هو اعلم بمن ضل عن سبيله

and He knows best who has been guided. 30

وهو اعلم بمن اهتدي

To God belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth, so that He may recompense those who did evil for what they did, and recompense those who did good with the best [reward]. 31

ولله ما في السموت وما في الارض ليجزي الذين اسوا بما عملوا ويجزي الذين احسنوا بالحسني

Those who avoid the major transgressions and indecencies, except minor lapses. 32

الذين يجتنبون كبير الاثم والفوحش الا اللمم

Your Guardian is indeed vast in forgiveness. 32

ان ربك وسع المغفره

He knows you best, when He brought you forth from the earth, and when you were embryos in your mothers' wombs. 32

هو اعلم بكم اذ انشاكم من الارض واذ انتم اجنه في بطون امهتكم

So do not claim yourselves to be pure.i 32

فلا تزكوا انفسكم

He knows best who has remained mindful. 32

هو اعلم بمن اتقي

Have you then seen the one who turned away, gave a little, then stopped? 34

افريت الذي تولي واعطي قليلا واكدي

Does he have knowledge of what escapes the senses, so that he sees?i 35

اعنده علم الغيب فهو يري

Or has he not been informed of what is in the pages of Moussa, and of Ibrahim, who fulfilled [his mission]: that no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another,i 38

ام لم ينبا بما في صحف موسي وابرهيم الذي وفي الا تزر وازره وزر اخري

and that the human being will have nothing but what he strove for, 39

وان ليس للانسن الا ما سعي

and that his effort will soon be shown, 40

وان سعيه سوف يري

then he will be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense, 41

ثم يجزيه الجزا الاوفي

and that to your Guardian is the final boundary, 42

وان الي ربك المنتهي

and that it is He who causes laughter and weeping, 43

وانه هو اضحك وابكي

and that it is He who causes death and gives life, 44

وانه هو امات واحيا

and that He created the two mates, the male and the female, from a drop of fluid when it is deposited, 46

وانه خلق الزوجين الذكر والانثي من نطفه اذا تمني

and that upon Him rests the other genesis, 47

وان عليه النشاه الاخري

and that it is He who enriched and granted lasting possession, 48

وانه هو اغني واقني

and that it is He, the Guardian of Sirius, 49

وانه هو رب الشعري

and that He destroyed the Recidivists [Aad], the first, and Thamud, leaving nothing behind, and the people of Nuh before that —i 52

وانه اهلك عادا الاولي وثمودا فما ابقي وقوم نوح من قبل

for they were, indeed, more unjust and more transgressing. 52

انهم كانوا هم اظلم واطغي

And the overturned [city], He cast it down.i 53

والموتفكه اهوي

Then covered it with what covered it. 54

فغشيها ما غشي

So which of your Guardian's favors do you doubt? 55

فباي الا ربك تتماري

This is a warner among the warners of old. 56

هذا نذير من النذر الاولي

The Imminent has drawn near. 57

ازفت الازفه

None besides God can unveil it. 58

ليس لها من دون الله كاشفه

Is it then this discourse that you marvel at, laughing, not weeping, while you remain heedless? 61

افمن هذا الحديث تعجبون وتضحكون ولا تبكون وانتم سمدون

So prostrate to God, and obey [Him]. 62

فاسجدوا لله واعبدوا
