Sourate Al-Muddaththir (74) original (rasm)

In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. O you who are covered in a cloak! Arise and warn,i 2

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم يايها المدثر قم فانذر

and your Guardian, magnify, 3

وربك فكبر

and your garments, purify, 4

وثيابك فطهر

and impurity, avoid, 5

والرجز فاهجر

and do not confer favor seeking more in return, 6

ولا تمنن تستكثر

and for your Guardian, be patient. 7

ولربك فاصبر

Then, when the trumpet is sounded, that Day will be a difficult day, not easy for the deniers. 10

فاذا نقر في الناقور فذلك يوميذ يوم عسير علي الكفرين غير يسير

Leave Me with the one I created alone, and gave him extensive wealth, and children present with him, and spread everything before him, easing his life — then he desires that I should add more. No! 16

ذرني ومن خلقت وحيدا وجعلت له مالا ممدودا وبنين شهودا ومهدت له تمهيدا ثم يطمع ان ازيد كلا

Indeed, he has been, toward Our signs, obstinate. 16

انه كان لايتنا عنيدا

I will cover him with a mounting torment. 17

سارهقه صعودا

Indeed, he thought and calculated. So may he be destroyed, how he calculated! Again, may he be destroyed, how he calculated! Then he considered; then he frowned and scowled; then he turned back and was arrogant, and said, "This is nothing but illusion passed down; this is nothing but the word of a human being."i 25

انه فكر وقدر فقتل كيف قدر ثم قتل كيف قدر ثم نظر ثم عبس وبسر ثم ادبر واستكبر فقال ان هذا الا سحر يوثر ان هذا الا قول البشر

I will drive him into Saqar. 26

ساصليه سقر

And what can make you know what Saqar is? 27

وما ادريك ما سقر

It leaves nothing and spares nothing, 28

لا تبقي ولا تذر

scorching the flesh of humans. 29

لواحه للبشر

Over it are nineteen. 30

عليها تسعه عشر

And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except Agents,i 31

وما جعلنا اصحب النار الا مليكه

and We have not made their number except as a trial for those who reject — that those given the Writ may be certain, and those who believe may increase in faith, and those given the Writ and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose cores is a sickness and the deniers may say, "What did God intend by this as an example?"i 31

وما جعلنا عدتهم الا فتنه للذين كفروا ليستيقن الذين اوتوا الكتب ويزداد الذين امنوا ايمنا ولا يرتاب الذين اوتوا الكتب والمومنون وليقول الذين في قلوبهم مرض والكفرون ماذا اراد الله بهذا مثلا

Thus does God leave astray whom He wills and guide whom He wills. 31

كذلك يضل الله من يشا ويهدي من يشا

And none knows the soldiers of your Guardian except Him. 31

وما يعلم جنود ربك الا هو

And it is not but a reminder to humanity. 31

وما هي الا ذكري للبشر

No indeed! By the moon, and the night as it departs, and the dawn as it shines forth — indeed, it is one of the greatest signs, a warning to humanity, to whoever among you wills to advance or to remain behind. 37

كلا والقمر واليل اذ ادبر والصبح اذا اسفر انها لاحدي الكبر نذيرا للبشر لمن شا منكم ان يتقدم او يتاخر

Every Self is a pledge for what it has earned, except the companions of the right, 39

كل نفس بما كسبت رهينه الا اصحب اليمين

in gardens, they will ask one another about the severed: 42

في جنت يتسالون عن المجرمين ما سلككم في سقر

They will say, "We were not of those who maintained the Contact, nor did we used to feed the destitute, and we used to indulge with those who indulged, and we used to deny the Day of Recompense, until certainty came to us."i 47

قالوا لم نك من المصلين ولم نك نطعم المسكين وكنا نخوض مع الخايضين وكنا نكذب بيوم الدين حتي اتينا اليقين

So there will not benefit them the intercession of any intercessors. 48

فما تنفعهم شفعه الشفعين

So what is with them that they turn away from the reminder, as if they were terrified donkeys, fleeing from a lion? 51

فما لهم عن التذكره معرضين كانهم حمر مستنفره فرت من قسوره

Rather, every one of them desires that he would be given scrolls unrolled. 52

بل يريد كل امري منهم ان يوتي صحفا منشره

No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. 53

كلا بل لا يخافون الاخره

No indeed! Truly, this is a reminder; 54

كلا انه تذكره

so whoever wills may remember it. 55

فمن شا ذكره

And they will not remember except that God wills. 56

وما يذكرون الا ان يشا الله

He is worthy that one guard oneself before Him, and He is worthy to forgive.i 56

هو اهل التقوي واهل المغفره
