but righteousness is one who believes in God, the Last Day, the Agents, the Scripture, and the prophets, and who gives of his wealth, despite his love for it, to relatives, orphans, the destitute, the stranded traveler, those who ask, and for freeing those under the burden of a debt, who maintains the Contact and gives the purifying alms, 2:177

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلْبِرَّ مَنْ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِ وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ وَٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ وَءَاتَى ٱلْمَالَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِۦ ذَوِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَٱلْيَتَٰمَىٰ وَٱلْمَسَٰكِينَ وَٱبْنَ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَٱلسَّآئِلِينَ وَفِى ٱلرِّقَابِ وَأَقَامَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَى ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ

but righteousness is [that of] one who guards himself. 2:189

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلْبِرَّ مَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰ

but He will hold you to account for what your cores have earned. 2:225

وَلَٰكِن يُؤَاخِذُكُم بِمَا كَسَبَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْ

God knows that you will think of them; but do not promise them anything in secret, 2:235

عَلِمَ ٱللَّهُ أَنَّكُمْ سَتَذْكُرُونَهُنَّ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُوَاعِدُوهُنَّ سِرًّا

but most people are not grateful. 2:243

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ

but God holds a favor toward all beings. 2:251

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

but they diverged: 2:253

وَلَٰكِنِ ٱخْتَلَفُوا۟

but God does what He wills. 2:253

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَفْعَلُ مَا يُرِيدُ

He said: "Yes, indeed; it is only so that my core may find ease." 2:260

قَالَ بَلَىٰ وَلَٰكِن لِّيَطْمَئِنَّ قَلْبِى

but God guides whom He wills. 2:272

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ

Ibrahim was neither Reoriented nor a Helper, but he was wholly turned toward God, integral to Him, and he was not among those who associate. 3:67

مَا كَانَ إِبْرَٰهِيمُ يَهُودِيًّۭا وَلَا نَصْرَانِيًّۭا وَلَٰكِن كَانَ حَنِيفًۭا مُّسْلِمًۭا

It is not for any human being to whom God has given the Scripture, the judgment, and the prophecy, to then say to people: "Be obedient to me, besides God"; but rather: "Be spiritual masters, by reason of what you teach of the Scripture and what you study." 3:79

مَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ أَن يُؤْتِيَهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَٱلْحُكْمَ وَٱلنُّبُوَّةَ ثُمَّ يَقُولَ لِلنَّاسِ كُونُوا۟ عِبَادًۭا لِّى مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَٰكِن كُونُوا۟ رَبَّٰنِيِّـۧنَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تُعَلِّمُونَ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَبِمَا كُنتُمْ تَدْرُسُونَ

but it was themselves that they wronged. 3:117

وَلَٰكِنْ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

but God chooses, among His messengers, whom He wills. 3:179

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَجْتَبِى مِن رُّسُلِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ

but God cursed them for their denial-disowning, and they believe only a little. 4:46

وَلَٰكِن لَّعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِكُفْرِهِمْ فَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًۭا

when they did not kill him and did not crucify him, but a likeness was given to them. 4:157

وَمَا قَتَلُوهُ وَمَا صَلَبُوهُ وَلَٰكِن شُبِّهَ لَهُمْ

but He wants to purify you, and to complete His blessing upon you, perhaps you will be grateful. 5:6

وَلَٰكِن يُرِيدُ لِيُطَهِّرَكُمْ وَلِيُتِمَّ نِعْمَتَهُۥ عَلَيْكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ

but [He did not], so as to try you in what He has given you. 5:48

وَلَٰكِن لِّيَبْلُوَكُمْ فِى مَآ ءَاتَىٰكُمْ

but many of them are oversteppers. 5:81

وَلَٰكِنَّ كَثِيرًۭا مِّنْهُمْ فَٰسِقُونَ

but He will hold you to account for the oaths you have firmly concluded. 5:89

وَلَٰكِن يُؤَاخِذُكُم بِمَا عَقَّدتُّمُ ٱلْأَيْمَٰنَ

but those who deny-disown invent the lie against God, and most of them do not reason. 5:103

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ

but it is the signs of God that the unjust deny. 6:33

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ يَجْحَدُونَ

but most of them do not know. 6:37

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

But their cores hardened, and the Diverter embellished for them what they were doing. 6:43

وَلَٰكِن قَسَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ

except a reminder, perhaps they will guard themselves. 6:69

وَلَٰكِن ذِكْرَىٰ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ

but most of them are ignorant. 6:111

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ يَجْهَلُونَ

but you do not know." 7:38

وَلَٰكِن لَّا تَعْلَمُونَ

He said: "O my people! there is no error in me, but I am a messenger from the Guardian of all beings. 7:61

قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ لَيْسَ بِى ضَلَٰلَةٌۭ وَلَٰكِنِّى رَسُولٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

He said: "O my people! there is no foolishness in me, but I am a messenger from the Guardian of all beings. 7:67

قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ لَيْسَ بِى سَفَاهَةٌۭ وَلَٰكِنِّى رَسُولٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

but you do not love sincere advisors." 7:79

وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُحِبُّونَ ٱلنَّٰصِحِينَ

but they denied, and We then seized them for what they used to earn. 7:96

وَلَٰكِن كَذَّبُوا۟ فَأَخَذْنَٰهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ

But most of them do not know. 7:131

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

He said: "You will not see Me, but look at the mountain: if it remains in place, then you will see Me." 7:143

قَالَ لَن تَرَىٰنِى وَلَٰكِنِ ٱنظُرْ إِلَى ٱلْجَبَلِ فَإِنِ ٱسْتَقَرَّ مَكَانَهُۥ فَسَوْفَ تَرَىٰنِى

but it was to themselves that they did wrong. 7:160

وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

Had We willed, We would have raised him by these; but he clung to the earth and followed his emotion. 7:176

وَلَوْ شِئْنَا لَرَفَعْنَٰهُ بِهَا وَلَٰكِنَّهُۥٓ أَخْلَدَ إِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَىٰهُ

but most people do not know." 7:187

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

but it was God who killed them. 8:17

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَتَلَهُمْ

And you did not throw, when you threw, but it was God who threw, 8:17

وَمَا رَمَيْتَ إِذْ رَمَيْتَ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ رَمَىٰ

but most of them do not know. 8:34

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

but [it happened thus] so that God might accomplish a matter already decreed, so that whoever was to perish might perish upon clear evidence, and whoever was to live might live upon clear evidence. 8:42

وَلَٰكِن لِّيَقْضِىَ ٱللَّهُ أَمْرًۭا كَانَ مَفْعُولًۭا لِّيَهْلِكَ مَنْ هَلَكَ عَنۢ بَيِّنَةٍۢ وَيَحْيَىٰ مَنْ حَىَّ عَنۢ بَيِّنَةٍۢ

but God preserved [you from that]. 8:43

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَلَّمَ

but it is God who reconciled them. 8:63

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ أَلَّفَ بَيْنَهُمْ

Had it been a near gain and an easy journey, they would have followed you; but the distance seemed long to them. 9:42

لَوْ كَانَ عَرَضًۭا قَرِيبًۭا وَسَفَرًۭا قَاصِدًۭا لَّٱتَّبَعُوكَ وَلَٰكِنۢ بَعُدَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلشُّقَّةُ

but God was averse to their setting out, and He held them back, and it was said to them: "Stay with those who stay." 9:46

وَلَٰكِن كَرِهَ ٱللَّهُ ٱنۢبِعَاثَهُمْ فَثَبَّطَهُمْ وَقِيلَ ٱقْعُدُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلْقَٰعِدِينَ

They swear by God that they are indeed of you, when they are not of you; but they are a people who love to divide. 9:56

وَيَحْلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ إِنَّهُمْ لَمِنكُمْ وَمَا هُم مِّنكُمْ وَلَٰكِنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌۭ يَفْرَقُونَ

but it was themselves that they wronged. 9:70

وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

rather, it confirms what precedes it, and it details the Code — with no doubt possible — from the Guardian of all beings. 10:37

وَلَٰكِن تَصْدِيقَ ٱلَّذِى بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَتَفْصِيلَ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ مِن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

it is people who wrong themselves. 10:44

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلنَّاسَ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

but most of them do not know. 10:55

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

but most of them are not grateful. 10:60

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ

but I obey God, who will recall you to Him. 10:104

وَلَٰكِنْ أَعْبُدُ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِى يَتَوَفَّىٰكُمْ

it is the truth from your Guardian, but most people do not believe. 11:17

إِنَّهُ ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

but I see you a people given to ignorance. 11:29

وَلَٰكِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰكُمْ قَوْمًۭا تَجْهَلُونَ

And We did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves: 11:101

وَمَا ظَلَمْنَٰهُمْ وَلَٰكِن ظَلَمُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ

but most people do not know. 12:21

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

She said: "This is the one about whom you blamed me. 12:32

قَالَتْ فَذَٰلِكُنَّ ٱلَّذِى لُمْتُنَّنِى فِيهِ

but most people are not grateful. 12:38

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ

but most people do not know. 12:40

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

but the confirmation of what precedes it, the detail of everything, and a guidance and a benevolence for a people who believe. 12:111

وَلَٰكِن تَصْدِيقَ ٱلَّذِى بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَتَفْصِيلَ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ وَهُدًۭى وَرَحْمَةًۭ لِّقَوْمٍۢ يُؤْمِنُونَ

but most people do not believe. 13:1

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

Their envoys said to them: "We are only human beings like you, but God bestows grace upon whom He wills among His obedient ones. 14:11

قَالَتْ لَهُمْ رُسُلُهُمْ إِن نَّحْنُ إِلَّا بَشَرٌۭ مِّثْلُكُمْ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَمُنُّ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ

but they were unjust toward themselves. 16:33

وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

But yes indeed! It is a promise incumbent upon Him, in truth — but most people do not know — so that He may make clear to them that on which they differ, and so that those who deny may know that they were liars. 16:39

بَلَىٰ وَعْدًا عَلَيْهِ حَقًّۭا وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ لِيُبَيِّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يَخْتَلِفُونَ فِيهِ وَلِيَعْلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ كَٰذِبِينَ

but He defers them until an appointed term, 16:61

وَلَٰكِن يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍۢ مُّسَمًّۭى

but He lets go astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills, 16:93

وَلَٰكِن يُضِلُّ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ

but whoever opens his chest to denial, upon them falls a wrath from God, 16:106

وَلَٰكِن مَّن شَرَحَ بِٱلْكُفْرِ صَدْرًۭا فَعَلَيْهِمْ غَضَبٌۭ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ

but they were unjust toward themselves. 16:118

وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

but you do not understand their glorification. 17:44

وَلَٰكِن لَّا تَفْقَهُونَ تَسْبِيحَهُمْ

As for me, He is God, my Guardian, and I associate no one with my Guardian. 18:38

لَّٰكِنَّا۠ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ رَبِّى وَلَآ أُشْرِكُ بِرَبِّىٓ أَحَدًۭا

They said: «We did not break your appointment of our own will; but we were burdened with loads of the people's ornaments, and we cast them away, and thus did as-Samiri also throw.» 20:87

قَالُوا۟ مَآ أَخْلَفْنَا مَوْعِدَكَ بِمَلْكِنَا وَلَٰكِنَّا حُمِّلْنَآ أَوْزَارًۭا مِّن زِينَةِ ٱلْقَوْمِ فَقَذَفْنَٰهَا فَكَذَٰلِكَ أَلْقَى ٱلسَّامِرِىُّ

The Day you see it, every woman with a child in her care will forget the child she was caring for, and every pregnant one will deliver her burden, and you will see mankind as if drunk, though they are not drunk — but the punishment of God is severe. 22:2

يَوْمَ تَرَوْنَهَا تَذْهَلُ كُلُّ مُرْضِعَةٍ عَمَّآ أَرْضَعَتْ وَتَضَعُ كُلُّ ذَاتِ حَمْلٍ حَمْلَهَا وَتَرَى ٱلنَّاسَ سُكَٰرَىٰ وَمَا هُم بِسُكَٰرَىٰ وَلَٰكِنَّ عَذَابَ ٱللَّهِ شَدِيدٌۭ

Neither their meat nor their blood reaches God, but the guardedness from you reaches Him. 22:37

لَن يَنَالَ ٱللَّهَ لُحُومُهَا وَلَا دِمَآؤُهَا وَلَٰكِن يَنَالُهُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ مِنكُمْ

For it is not the eyes that are blind, but rather the Cores that are within the breasts. 22:46

فَإِنَّهَا لَا تَعْمَى ٱلْأَبْصَٰرُ وَلَٰكِن تَعْمَى ٱلْقُلُوبُ ٱلَّتِى فِى ٱلصُّدُورِ

but God purifies whom He wills, 24:21

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُزَكِّى مَن يَشَآءُ

but You granted them enjoyment, them and their ancestors, until they forgot the Reminder and became a ruined people. 25:18

وَلَٰكِن مَّتَّعْتَهُمْ وَءَابَآءَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ نَسُوا۟ ٱلذِّكْرَ وَكَانُوا۟ قَوْمًۢا بُورًۭا

but most of them do not acknowledge. 27:73

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ

but most of them do not know. 28:13

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

But We caused generations to arise whose lifespan grew long; 28:45

وَلَٰكِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَا قُرُونًۭا فَتَطَاوَلَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْعُمُرُ

but it is We who sent you. 28:45

وَلَٰكِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ

but it is a benevolence from your Guardian, so that you may warn a people to whom no warner had come before you, so that they might remember. 28:46

وَلَٰكِن رَّحْمَةًۭ مِّن رَّبِّكَ لِتُنذِرَ قَوْمًۭا مَّآ أَتَىٰهُم مِّن نَّذِيرٍۢ مِّن قَبْلِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ

but God guides whom He wills, 28:56

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ

But most of them do not know. 28:57

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

but it was themselves that they wronged. 29:40

وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

but most people do not know. 30:6

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

but they used to wrong themselves. 30:9

وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

Set your direction toward the Law, wholly turned toward God — the original nature God gave mankind, as He created them. There is no changing God's creation: that is the upright Law, but most people do not know — turning toward Him, guard yourselves toward Him, maintain the Contact, and do not be among those who associate partners with God, 30:32

فَأَقِمْ وَجْهَكَ لِلدِّينِ حَنِيفًۭا فِطْرَتَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّتِى فَطَرَ ٱلنَّاسَ عَلَيْهَا لَا تَبْدِيلَ لِخَلْقِ ٱللَّهِ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلدِّينُ ٱلْقَيِّمُ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ مُنِيبِينَ إِلَيْهِ وَٱتَّقُوهُ وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ فَرَّقُوا۟ دِينَهُمْ وَكَانُوا۟ شِيَعًۭا

so this is the Day of Deployment — but you did not know." 30:56

فَهَٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْبَعْثِ وَلَٰكِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

but My word has come true: "I will surely fill Jahannam with the Occulted and mankind, all together." 32:13

وَلَٰكِنْ حَقَّ ٱلْقَوْلُ مِنِّى لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنَ ٱلْجِنَّةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ

but rather in what your cores have premeditated. 33:5

وَلَٰكِن مَّا تَعَمَّدَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْ

but rather the messenger of God and the seal of the prophets. 33:40

وَلَٰكِن رَّسُولَ ٱللَّهِ وَخَاتَمَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ

but when you are invited, enter; and when you have eaten, disperse, without lingering for conversation. 33:53

وَلَٰكِنْ إِذَا دُعِيتُمْ فَٱدْخُلُوا۟ فَإِذَا طَعِمْتُمْ فَٱنتَشِرُوا۟ وَلَا مُسْتَـْٔنِسِينَ لِحَدِيثٍ

but most people do not know. 34:28

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

but He defers them until an appointed term. 35:45

وَلَٰكِن يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍۢ مُّسَمًّۭى

but most of them do not know. 39:49

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

They will say: "Indeed!" but the word of punishment will have been fulfilled against those who denied. 39:71

قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ وَلَٰكِنْ حَقَّتْ كَلِمَةُ ٱلْعَذَابِ عَلَى ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

but most people do not know. 40:57

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

but most people do not believe. 40:59

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

but most people are not grateful. 40:61

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ

but you thought that God did not know much of what you were doing. 41:22

وَلَٰكِن ظَنَنتُمْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَعْلَمُ كَثِيرًۭا مِّمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ

but He admits whom He wills into His benevolence; 42:8

وَلَٰكِن يُدْخِلُ مَن يَشَآءُ فِى رَحْمَتِهِۦ

but He sends down in due measure what He wills. 42:27

وَلَٰكِن يُنَزِّلُ بِقَدَرٍۢ مَّا يَشَآءُ

you did not know what the Scripture was, nor faith, but We made it a light by which We guide whom We will among Our obedient ones; 42:52

مَا كُنتَ تَدْرِى مَا ٱلْكِتَٰبُ وَلَا ٱلْإِيمَٰنُ وَلَٰكِن جَعَلْنَٰهُ نُورًۭا نَّهْدِى بِهِۦ مَن نَّشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا

but it was they who were the wrongdoers. 43:76

وَلَٰكِن كَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

but most of you had an aversion to the truth. 43:78

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَكُمْ لِلْحَقِّ كَٰرِهُونَ

but most of them do not know. 44:39

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

but most people do not know. 45:26

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

He said: "The knowledge [of that] is with God alone; I convey to you what I was sent with, but I see you to be a people who are ignorant." 46:23

قَالَ إِنَّمَا ٱلْعِلْمُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَأُبَلِّغُكُم مَّآ أُرْسِلْتُ بِهِۦ وَلَٰكِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰكُمْ قَوْمًۭا تَجْهَلُونَ

but [He does otherwise] so as to test some of you by means of others. 47:4

وَلَٰكِن لِّيَبْلُوَا۟ بَعْضَكُم بِبَعْضٍۢ

But God has made faith dear to you and made it appealing in your Cores, and has made you detest the denial [of the truth], overstepping, and disobedience. 49:7

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ حَبَّبَ إِلَيْكُمُ ٱلْإِيمَٰنَ وَزَيَّنَهُۥ فِى قُلُوبِكُمْ وَكَرَّهَ إِلَيْكُمُ ٱلْكُفْرَ وَٱلْفُسُوقَ وَٱلْعِصْيَانَ

The notables said: "We have believed." Say: "You have not believed; rather say: We have become true to God alone," for faith has not yet entered your Cores. 49:14

قَالَتِ ٱلْأَعْرَابُ ءَامَنَّا قُل لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ وَلَٰكِن قُولُوٓا۟ أَسْلَمْنَا وَلَمَّا يَدْخُلِ ٱلْإِيمَٰنُ فِى قُلُوبِكُمْ

His companion will say: 'Our Guardian, I did not make him transgress, but he was in deep error.' 50:27

قَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ رَبَّنَا مَآ أَطْغَيْتُهُۥ وَلَٰكِن كَانَ فِى ضَلَٰلٍۭ بَعِيدٍۢ

but most of them do not know. 52:47

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

Then why, when [the soul] reaches the throat, and you at that moment are looking on, and We are nearer to it than you, but you do not see — then why, if you were not subject to reckoning, do you not bring it back, if you are truthful? 56:87

فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍۢ تَنظُرُونَ وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ

They will say: "Yes, but you tempted yourselves, and awaited, and doubted, and false hopes deceived you until the command of God came, and the deceiver deceived you concerning God." 57:14

قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ وَلَٰكِنَّكُمْ فَتَنتُمْ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَتَرَبَّصْتُمْ وَٱرْتَبْتُمْ وَغَرَّتْكُمُ ٱلْأَمَانِىُّ حَتَّىٰ جَآءَ أَمْرُ ٱللَّهِ وَغَرَّكُم بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْغَرُورُ

But God gives His messengers power over whom He wills. 59:6

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُسَلِّطُ رُسُلَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُ

but the hypocrites do not understand. 63:7

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ

but the hypocrites do not know. 63:8

وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

but he denied and turned away, 75:32

وَلَٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
