And when it is said to them: "Believe in what God has sent down", they say: "We believe in what was sent down upon us"; and they deny-disown what came after. 2:91

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ ءَامِنُوا۟ بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ قَالُوا۟ نُؤْمِنُ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْنَا وَيَكْفُرُونَ بِمَا وَرَآءَهُۥ

And when a messenger came to them from God, confirming what is with them, a group of those to whom the Scripture was given cast the Scripture of God behind their backs, as if they did not know. 2:101

وَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌۭ مِّنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ مُصَدِّقٌۭ لِّمَا مَعَهُمْ نَبَذَ فَرِيقٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ كِتَٰبَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَآءَ ظُهُورِهِمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

And remember when God took the engagement of those to whom the Scripture was given: "You will certainly make it clear to mankind, and you will not hide it"; but they cast it behind their backs, and sold it for a small price. 3:187

وَإِذْ أَخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِيثَٰقَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ لَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُۥ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَكْتُمُونَهُۥ فَنَبَذُوهُ وَرَآءَ ظُهُورِهِمْ وَٱشْتَرَوْا۟ بِهِۦ ثَمَنًۭا قَلِيلًۭا

And made lawful to you are all beyond these categories, whom you seek with your possessions, as men who bind themselves in contract, not in debauchery. 4:24

وَأُحِلَّ لَكُم مَّا وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكُمْ أَن تَبْتَغُوا۟ بِأَمْوَٰلِكُم مُّحْصِنِينَ غَيْرَ مُسَٰفِحِينَ

Then, when they have prostrated, let them pass behind you, 4:102

فَإِذَا سَجَدُوا۟ فَلْيَكُونُوا۟ مِن وَرَآئِكُمْ

God then sent a raven, which scratched the earth, to show him how to conceal his brother's nakedness. 5:31

فَبَعَثَ ٱللَّهُ غُرَابًۭا يَبْحَثُ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيُرِيَهُۥ كَيْفَ يُوَٰرِى سَوْءَةَ أَخِيهِ

He said: "Woe to me! am I unable to be like this raven, and to conceal my brother's nakedness?" And he then became among those who regret. 5:32

قَالَ يَٰوَيْلَتَىٰٓ أَعَجَزْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِثْلَ هَٰذَا ٱلْغُرَابِ فَأُوَٰرِىَ سَوْءَةَ أَخِى فَأَصْبَحَ مِنَ ٱلنَّٰدِمِينَ مِنْ أَجْلِ ذَٰلِكَ

Here you have come to Us alone, as We created you the first time, and you have left behind what We had entrusted you with; 6:94

وَلَقَدْ جِئْتُمُونَا فُرَٰدَىٰ كَمَا خَلَقْنَٰكُمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍۢ وَتَرَكْتُم مَّا خَوَّلْنَٰكُمْ وَرَآءَ ظُهُورِكُمْ

But the Diverter whispered suggestions to them, so as to reveal to them what had been hidden from them of their nakedness, 7:20

فَوَسْوَسَ لَهُمَا ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ لِيُبْدِىَ لَهُمَا مَا وُۥرِىَ عَنْهُمَا مِن سَوْءَٰتِهِمَا

O children of Adam! We have sent down for you a garment that covers your nakedness, as well as an adornment; and the garment of guardedness — 7:26

يَٰبَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ قَدْ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكُمْ لِبَاسًۭا يُوَٰرِى سَوْءَٰتِكُمْ وَرِيشًۭا وَلِبَاسُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ

and, after Ishaq, Yaacoub. 11:71

وَمِن وَرَآءِ إِسْحَٰقَ يَعْقُوبَ

He said: "O my people, does my clan then weigh more with you than God, whom you have relegated behind your back? 11:92

قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ أَرَهْطِىٓ أَعَزُّ عَلَيْكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَٱتَّخَذْتُمُوهُ وَرَآءَكُمْ ظِهْرِيًّا

and every stubborn tyrant was disappointed; behind him, Jahannam, and he will be given to drink there a purulent water, which he will gulp down without almost being able to swallow it; death will come to him from every side without his dying; and behind that, an implacable punishment. 14:17

وَخَابَ كُلُّ جَبَّارٍ عَنِيدٍۢ مِّن وَرَآئِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ وَيُسْقَىٰ مِن مَّآءٍۢ صَدِيدٍۢ يَتَجَرَّعُهُۥ وَلَا يَكَادُ يُسِيغُهُۥ وَيَأْتِيهِ ٱلْمَوْتُ مِن كُلِّ مَكَانٍۢ وَمَا هُوَ بِمَيِّتٍۢ وَمِن وَرَآئِهِۦ عَذَابٌ غَلِيظٌۭ

And when one of them receives the news of a daughter, his face darkens, and he is filled with suppressed distress; he hides himself from the people, because of the ill news he was given: 16:59

وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم بِٱلْأُنثَىٰ ظَلَّ وَجْهُهُۥ مُسْوَدًّۭا وَهُوَ كَظِيمٌۭ يَتَوَٰرَىٰ مِنَ ٱلْقَوْمِ مِن سُوٓءِ مَا بُشِّرَ بِهِۦٓ

As for the boat, it belonged to destitute people working at sea; I wanted to damage it, for behind them was a king who was seizing every [sound] boat by force. 18:79

أَمَّا ٱلسَّفِينَةُ فَكَانَتْ لِمَسَٰكِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ فَأَرَدتُّ أَنْ أَعِيبَهَا وَكَانَ وَرَآءَهُم مَّلِكٌۭ يَأْخُذُ كُلَّ سَفِينَةٍ غَصْبًۭا

I have feared for my kin after me, and my wife is barren. So grant me, from Yourself, an heir who will inherit from me and inherit from the line of Yaacoub, 19:6

وَإِنِّى خِفْتُ ٱلْمَوَٰلِىَ مِن وَرَآءِى وَكَانَتِ ٱمْرَأَتِى عَاقِرًۭا فَهَبْ لِى مِن لَّدُنكَ وَلِيًّۭا يَرِثُنِى وَيَرِثُ مِنْ ءَالِ يَعْقُوبَ

whoever seeks beyond that — those are the transgressors. 23:7

فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ

and behind them there is a barrier, until the day they are raised up. 23:100

وَمِن وَرَآئِهِم بَرْزَخٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ

And when you ask them for an item, ask them from behind a screen: 33:53

وَإِذَا سَأَلْتُمُوهُنَّ مَتَٰعًۭا فَسْـَٔلُوهُنَّ مِن وَرَآءِ حِجَابٍۢ

When there were displayed to him, at dusk, the standing, well-bred horses, he said: "I have preferred the love of good over the remembrance of my Guardian," until they withdrew behind the veil. 38:32

إِذْ عُرِضَ عَلَيْهِ بِٱلْعَشِىِّ ٱلصَّٰفِنَٰتُ ٱلْجِيَادُ فَقَالَ إِنِّىٓ أَحْبَبْتُ حُبَّ ٱلْخَيْرِ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّى حَتَّىٰ تَوَارَتْ بِٱلْحِجَابِ

It is not for any human being that God should speak to him, except by revelation, or from behind a veil, or by sending a messenger who reveals, by His leave, what He wills; 42:51

وَمَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ أَن يُكَلِّمَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا وَحْيًا أَوْ مِن وَرَآئِ حِجَابٍ أَوْ يُرْسِلَ رَسُولًۭا فَيُوحِىَ بِإِذْنِهِۦ مَا يَشَآءُ

Behind them is Jahannam; and what they earned will not avail them at all, nor will what they took as protectors besides God. 45:10

مِّن وَرَآئِهِمْ جَهَنَّمُ وَلَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُم مَّا كَسَبُوا۟ شَيْـًۭٔا وَلَا مَا ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْلِيَآءَ

Those who call out to you from behind the private chambers, most of them do not reason. 49:4

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُنَادُونَكَ مِن وَرَآءِ ٱلْحُجُرَٰتِ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ

Have you considered the fire that you kindle? Is it you who caused its tree to grow, or are We the Grower? 56:72

أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى تُورُونَ ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ

The Day the hypocrite men and hypocrite women will say to those who believed: "Wait for us that we may borrow from your light." It will be said: "Go back behind you and seek a light." 57:13

يَوْمَ يَقُولُ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقُونَ وَٱلْمُنَٰفِقَٰتُ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱنظُرُونَا نَقْتَبِسْ مِن نُّورِكُمْ قِيلَ ٱرْجِعُوا۟ وَرَآءَكُمْ فَٱلْتَمِسُوا۟ نُورًۭا

They will not fight you all together except entrenched in fortified towns or behind walls. 59:14

لَا يُقَٰتِلُونَكُمْ جَمِيعًا إِلَّا فِى قُرًۭى مُّحَصَّنَةٍ أَوْ مِن وَرَآءِ جُدُرٍۭ

but whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors; 70:31

فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ

Indeed, these love the fleeting life, and leave behind them a heavy Day. 76:27

إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ يُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ وَيَذَرُونَ وَرَآءَهُمْ يَوْمًۭا ثَقِيلًۭا

But as for him who is given his record behind his back, he will cry out for destruction, and he will burn in a blazing fire. 84:12

وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهْرِهِۦ فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُوا۟ ثُبُورًۭا وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا

Yet those who reject the truth persist in denial, and God encompasses them from behind. 85:20

بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى تَكْذِيبٍۢ وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطٌۢ

In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. By those who transgress, panting, who strike the spark through their clashes, who launch the assault at dawn, stirring up the dust, to plunge thereby into the heart of a host! Man is, toward his Guardian, rebelliously ungrateful, and he is himself a witness to that, and for the love of wealth he is fierce. 100:8

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ وَٱلْعَٰدِيَٰتِ ضَبْحًۭا فَٱلْمُورِيَٰتِ قَدْحًۭا فَٱلْمُغِيرَٰتِ صُبْحًۭا فَأَثَرْنَ بِهِۦ نَقْعًۭا فَوَسَطْنَ بِهِۦ جَمْعًا إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لِرَبِّهِۦ لَكَنُودٌۭ وَإِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ لَشَهِيدٌۭ وَإِنَّهُۥ لِحُبِّ ٱلْخَيْرِ لَشَدِيدٌ
