They said: "For an excuse before your Guardian, and perhaps they will guard themselves."
قَالُوا۟ مَعْذِرَةً إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمْ وَلَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ -

And the excuse-makers, among the notables, came so that permission might be granted them, while those who lied to God and His messenger remained seated.
وَجَآءَ ٱلْمُعَذِّرُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ لِيُؤْذَنَ لَهُمْ وَقَعَدَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَبُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ -

قَالَ إِن سَأَلْتُكَ عَن شَىْءٍۭ بَعْدَهَا فَلَا تُصَٰحِبْنِى قَدْ بَلَغْتَ مِن لَّدُنِّى عُذْرًۭا -

فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢ لَّا يَنفَعُ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ -

We surely help Our messengers and those who believe, in the present life and on the day the witnesses rise, the day the excuse of the wrongdoers will not benefit them; theirs will be the curse, and theirs the worst of abodes.
إِنَّا لَنَنصُرُ رُسُلَنَا وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَيَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلْأَشْهَٰدُ يَوْمَ لَا يَنفَعُ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ وَلَهُمُ ٱللَّعْنَةُ وَلَهُمْ سُوٓءُ ٱلدَّارِ -

In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. By those sent forth in succession, and those scattering violently, and those deploying far and wide, and those separating distinctly, and those addressing a reminder, as justification or as warning: indeed, what you are promised will surely befall.
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ وَٱلْمُرْسَلَٰتِ عُرْفًۭا فَٱلْعَٰصِفَٰتِ عَصْفًۭا وَٱلنَّٰشِرَٰتِ نَشْرًۭا فَٱلْفَٰرِقَٰتِ فَرْقًۭا فَٱلْمُلْقِيَٰتِ ذِكْرًا عُذْرًا أَوْ نُذْرًا إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَوَٰقِعٌۭ
