Al-Qiyama

No! I swear by the Day of Appearance; and no! I swear by the self-censuring Self.

لا اقسم بيوم القيمة ولا اقسم بالنفس اللوامة

We are able to proportion even his phalanges.

قدرين على ان نسوي بنانه

But the human being wants to persist in depravity, there, before him.

بل يريد الانسن ليفجر امامه

He asks, "When will the Day of Appearance be?"

يسل ايان يوم القيمة

So when the sight is blinded with glare, and the moon eclipses, and the sun and the moon are joined together, the human being will say on that Day, "Where to flee?"

فاذا برق البصر وخسف القمر وجمع الشمس والقمر يقول الانسن يوميذ اين المفر

By no means! There is no bulwark.

كلا لا وزر

To your Guardian, that Day, will be the stable place.

الى ربك يوميذ المستقر

The human being will be informed, that Day, of what he put forward and kept back.

ينبوا الانسن يوميذ بما قدم واخر

Rather, the human being is clear-sighted over himself, even if he puts forward his excuses.

بل الانسن على نفسه بصيرة ولو القى معاذيره

Do not move your tongue with it to hasten it;

لا تحرك به لسانك لتعجل به

for upon Us is its assembling and its recitation.

ان علينا جمعه وقرءانه

then, when We have read it, follow its recitation; then, indeed, upon Us is its explanation.

فاذا قرانه فاتبع قرءانه ثم ان علينا بيانه

By no means! But they love the immediate life, and forsake the last life.

كلا بل تحبون العاجلة وتذرون الءاخرة

Some faces, that Day, will be radiant, looking toward their Guardian.

وجوه يوميذ ناضرة الى ربها ناظرة

And some faces, that Day, will be gloomy, presuming that a catastrophe is about to be inflicted on them.

ووجوه يوميذ باسرة تظن ان يفعل بها فاقرة

By no means! When it reaches the collarbones, and it is said, "Who will raise up?" and he presumes that it is the parting, and the leg is intertwined with the leg — to your Guardian, that Day, will be the drive.

كلا اذا بلغت التراقي وقيل من راق وظن انه الفراق والتفت الساق بالساق الى ربك يوميذ المساق

For he neither declared true, nor made the Contact,

فلا صدق ولا صلى

but he denied and turned his back,

ولكن كذب وتولى

then he went to his people, walking in vain pride.

ثم ذهب الى اهله يتمطى

Closer to you, and closer! Then closer to you, and closer!

اولى لك فاولى ثم اولى لك فاولى

Does the human being think that he will be left without purpose?

ايحسب الانسن ان يترك سدى

Was he not a drop of emitted semen? Then he was a clinging form; then He created and proportioned him, and made of him two mates, the male and the female.

الم يك نطفة من مني يمنى ثم كان علقة فخلق فسوى فجعل منه الزوجين الذكر والانثى

Is that One not able to bring the dead back to life?

اليس ذلك بقدر على ان يحي الموتى
