Ash-Shu'ara

A Sound Core

  • In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Ṭa. Sin. Mim.

  • These are the signs of the explicit Scripture.

  • Perhaps you will consume yourself with grief because they are not believers.

  • If We willed, We could send down upon them a sign from the sky before which their necks would stay bowed.

  • No new reminder comes to them from the All-Benevolent without them turning away from it.

  • Yet they have denied; the news of what they used to mock will soon reach them.

  • Have they not seen the earth, how much We have made grow in it of every generous pair?

  • In that, there is indeed a sign.

  • But most of them are not believers.

  • And your Guardian is indeed the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.

  • And recall when your Guardian called out to Moussa: 'Go to the unjust people, the people of Fir'awn.

  • Will they not guard themselves?'

  • He said [Moussa]: 'My Guardian, I fear they will deny me, that my chest will tighten and my tongue will not loosen; so send to Harun. They hold a grievance against me, and I fear they will kill me.'

  • He said [God]: 'By no means!

  • Go, both of you, with Our signs; We are with you, listening.'

  • 'Go then to Fir'awn and say: We are the messengers of the Guardian of all beings; let the Sons of Israel go with us.'

  • He said [Fir'awn]: 'Did we not raise you among us as a child, and did you not stay among us for years of your life? You committed the act you committed, and you are among those who disown.'

  • He said [Moussa]: 'I did it then, while I was among the astray.

  • So I fled from you when I feared you; then my Guardian granted me judgment and made me one of the messengers.

  • And this blessing you reproach me with is that you enslaved the Sons of Israel!'

  • Fir'awn said: 'And what is the Guardian of all beings?'

  • He said [Moussa]: 'The Guardian of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you are of those who are certain.'

  • He said [Fir'awn] to those around him: 'Do you not listen?'

  • He said [Moussa]: 'Your Guardian and the Guardian of your earliest forefathers.'

  • He said [Fir'awn]: 'Your messenger who has been sent to you is certainly deranged.'

  • He said [Moussa]: 'The Guardian of the east and the west and what is between them, if you would reason.'

  • He said [Fir'awn]: 'If you take a deity other than me, I will certainly put you among the imprisoned.'

  • He said [Moussa]: 'Even if I brought you something explicit?'

  • He said [Fir'awn]: 'Bring it then, if you are among the truthful.'

  • He threw down his staff, and behold, it was a clear serpent; and he drew out his hand, and behold, it was white to those who looked.

  • He said [Fir'awn] to the court around him: 'This one is truly a knowing worker of illusion, who wants to drive you out of your land by his illusion. What do you propose then?'

  • They said [Fir'awn's court]: 'Put him and his brother off, and send gatherers into the cities, who will bring you every great, knowing worker of illusion.'

  • The workers of illusion were gathered for the appointment of a known day.

  • And it was said to the people: 'Will you gather, so that we may follow the workers of illusion, if they are the victors?'

  • When the workers of illusion came, they said to Fir'awn: 'Will there truly be a reward for us, if we are the victors?'

  • He said [Fir'awn]: 'Yes, and you will then certainly be among those brought near.'

  • Moussa said to them: 'Throw what you have to throw.'

  • So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said: 'By the might of Fir'awn, it is we, indeed, who will be the victors!'

  • Then Moussa threw his staff, and behold, it swallowed up what they had fabricated as illusion.

  • The workers of illusion then fell down prostrate.

  • They said [the workers of illusion]: 'We believe in the Guardian of all beings, the Guardian of Moussa and Harun.'

  • He said [Fir'awn]: 'Have you given him credit before I gave you permission? He is certainly your chief, who taught you illusion.

  • You will soon know.

  • I will certainly cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, and crucify you all together.'

  • They said [the workers of illusion]: 'No harm!

  • It is to our Guardian that we are turning back.

  • We hope our Guardian will forgive us our faults, since we are the first of the believers.'

  • And We revealed to Moussa: 'Set out by night with My obedient ones; you will be pursued.'

  • Fir'awn then sent gatherers into the cities:

  • 'These are indeed a small band, and they enrage us, and we are, all together, a vigilant force.'

  • So We brought them out of gardens and springs, and treasures and a noble station.

  • Thus.

  • And We made the Sons of Israel inherit them, and they pursued them at sunrise.

  • And when the two groups saw each other, the companions of Moussa said: 'We are certainly overtaken!'

  • He said [Moussa]: 'By no means!

  • My Guardian is indeed with me; He will guide me.'

  • We then revealed to Moussa: 'Strike the sea with your staff.' It split, and each part was like an immense mountain.

  • And We brought the others close there.

  • And We saved Moussa and all those with him, then We drowned the others.

  • In that, there is indeed a sign.

  • But most of them are not believers.

  • And your Guardian is indeed the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.

  • And recite to them the account of Ibrahim, when he said to his father and his people: 'What do you obey?'

  • They said [Ibrahim's people]: 'We obey idols, and we remain posted by them.'

  • He said [Ibrahim]: 'Do they hear you when you call upon them, or do they benefit you, or do they harm you?'

  • They said [Ibrahim's people]: 'No, but we found our ancestors acting thus.'

  • He said [Ibrahim]: "Have you then seen what you used to obey, you and your most distant forefathers? They are indeed enemies to me,

  • except the Guardian of all beings, the one who created me and who guides me,

  • and the one who feeds me and gives me drink, and who, when I am ill, heals me,

  • and the one who will cause me to die then bring me back to life,

  • and the one from whom I hope forgiveness for my fault on the Day of Retribution.

  • My Guardian, grant me judgment and join me with the righteous,

  • and grant me a tongue of truth among those who come after,

  • and make me one of the heirs of the garden of bliss,

  • and forgive my father, for he was among the astray,

  • and do not disgrace me on the day they are resurrected, the day when neither goods nor sons will be of use, except to one who comes to God with a sound core.

  • And the Garden will be brought near to those who guard themselves,

  • and the Blaze will be shown to the misled.

  • And it will be said to them: 'Where are those you used to obey, besides God,

  • do they help you, or do they help themselves?'

  • They will be cast into it, they, the misled, and the troops of the Despairing One [Iblis], all together.

  • They will say, quarreling there: 'By God, we were indeed in explicit error, when we set you on the same level as the Guardian of all beings.

  • And it was only the severed who led us astray.

  • So we have neither intercessors, nor a warm friend.

  • If only we had a return, we would be among the believers!'

  • In that, there is indeed a sign.

  • But most of them are not believers.

  • And your Guardian is indeed the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.

  • The people of Nuh denied the messengers, when their brother Nuh said to them: 'Will you not guard yourselves? I am for you a trustworthy messenger.

  • So guard yourselves toward God and obey me.

    فاتقوا الله واطيعون
  • I ask you no reward for this;

    وما اسلكم عليه من اجر
  • my reward is incumbent only upon the Guardian of all beings.

  • So guard yourselves toward God and obey me.'

  • They said [Nuh's people]: 'Shall we give you credit while it is the most abject who have followed you?'

  • He said [Nuh]: 'What do I know of what they used to do?

  • Their account is due only to my Guardian, if only you could perceive it.

  • And I am not one to drive away the believers; I am only an explicit warner.'

  • Nuh's people said: "If you do not stop, O Nuh, you will certainly be among the banished."

  • He said [Nuh]: 'My Guardian, my people have denied me. Decide then between me and them decisively, and save me and those of the believers who are with me.'

  • So We saved him and those with him, in the laden vessel.

  • Then We drowned afterward those who remained.

  • In that, there is indeed a sign.

  • But most of them are not believers.

  • And your Guardian is indeed the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.

  • The Recidivists [Aad] denied the messengers, when their brother Hud said to them: 'Will you not guard yourselves? I am for you a trustworthy messenger.

  • So guard yourselves toward God and obey me.

    فاتقوا الله واطيعون
  • I ask you no reward for this;

    وما اسلكم عليه من اجر
  • my reward is incumbent only upon the Guardian of all beings.

  • Do you build on every height a monument, in play, and take for yourselves works in hope of lasting forever, and when you seize, you seize as tyrants?

  • So guard yourselves toward God and obey me.

  • And guard yourselves before the One who has provided you with what you know: He has provided you with livestock, sons, gardens and springs.

  • I fear for you the punishment of an immense day.'

  • They said [Aad's people]: 'It is the same to us whether you warn or are not among those who warn; this is only the custom of the ancients, and we shall not be punished.'

  • So they denied him, and We annihilated them.

  • In that, there is indeed a sign.

  • But most of them are not believers.

  • And your Guardian is indeed the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.

  • The Depleters [Thamud] denied the messengers, when their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not guard yourselves? I am for you a trustworthy messenger.

  • So guard yourselves toward God and obey me.

    فاتقوا الله واطيعون
  • I ask you no reward for this;

    وما اسلكم عليه من اجر
  • my reward is incumbent only upon the Guardian of all beings.

  • Will you be left secure here, amid gardens and springs, and crops and date-palms with tender clusters, while you carve houses out of the mountains, skilled and expert?

  • So guard yourselves toward God and obey me.

  • And do not obey the command of the excessive, who spread corruption on the earth and set nothing right.

  • They said [Thamud's people]: 'You are only among those abused by illusion; you are only a human like us; bring then a sign, if you are among the truthful.'

  • He said [Salih]: 'Here is a she-camel; she has a right to drink,

  • and you have a right to drink on a known day.

  • Do her no harm, or the punishment of an immense day will seize you.'

  • Yet they hamstrung her, then found themselves full of regret, and the punishment seized them.

  • In that, there is indeed a sign.

  • But most of them are not believers.

  • And your Guardian is indeed the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.

  • The people of Lut denied the messengers, when their brother Lut said to them: 'Will you not guard yourselves? I am for you a trustworthy messenger.

  • So guard yourselves toward God and obey me.

    فاتقوا الله واطيعون
  • I ask you no reward for this;

    وما اسلكم عليه من اجر
  • my reward is incumbent only upon the Guardian of all beings.

  • Do you approach males, among all beings, and leave what your Guardian has created for you as spouses?

  • You are rather a people who cross the limits.

  • They said [Lut's people]: 'If you do not stop, O Lut, you will certainly be among those expelled.'

  • He said [Lut]: 'I am certainly, toward your conduct, among those who abhor.

  • My Guardian, save me, and my family, from what they do.'

  • So We saved him, and all his family, except an old woman, among those who remained behind; then We destroyed afterward the others.

  • And We rained down upon them a rain;

    وامطرنا عليهم مطرا
  • how evil was the rain of those who had been warned!

  • In that, there is indeed a sign.

  • But most of them are not believers.

  • And your Guardian is indeed the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.

  • The companions of the Thicket denied the messengers, when Shu'ayb said to them: 'Will you not guard yourselves? I am for you a trustworthy messenger.

  • So guard yourselves toward God and obey me.

    فاتقوا الله واطيعون
  • I ask you no reward for this;

    وما اسلكم عليه من اجر
  • my reward is incumbent only upon the Guardian of all beings.

  • Give full measure,

  • and do not be among those who cause loss.

  • Weigh with the exact scale,

  • and do not deprive people of their things,

  • and do not spread corruption on the earth as troublemakers.

  • Guard yourselves before the One who created you, and the earlier generations.

  • They said [the people of the Thicket]: 'You are only among those abused by illusion; you are only a human like us, and we certainly consider you among the liars. So cause a fragment of the sky to fall upon us, if you are among the truthful.'

  • He said [Shu'ayb]: 'My Guardian knows best what you do.'

  • So they denied him, and the punishment of the day of shadow seized them.

  • It was certainly the punishment of an immense day.

  • In that, there is indeed a sign.

  • But most of them are not believers.

  • And your Guardian is indeed the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.

  • And this is indeed a revelation from the Guardian of all beings.

  • The trustworthy Influx came down with it, upon your core, so that you may be among the warners, in impeccable, explicit tongue.

  • And this is indeed found in the Formularies of the ancients.

  • Is it not a sign for them, that the scholars of the Sons of Israel know it?

  • And if We had sent it down upon one of those whose tongue is not impeccable, and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed in it.

  • Thus We have made it penetrate the cores of the severed; they will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment, which will come to them suddenly, without their perceiving it, and they will say then: 'Will we be granted a delay?'

  • Is it then Our punishment that they seek to hasten?

  • Do you see? If We granted them enjoyment for years, then what they were promised came to them, of what use to them was the enjoyment they were granted?

  • And We did not annihilate any city without it having had warners, as a reminder;

  • and We have never been unjust.

  • And it is not the Diverters who descended with it; that does not suit them, and they cannot do it.

  • They are indeed kept away from all listening.

  • So do not invoke, alongside God, another deity, or you would be among the punished.

  • And warn your closest clan, and lower your wing toward those who follow you, among the believers.

  • If they disobey you, say then: 'I am clear of what you do.'

  • 26:219🖼

And rely upon the All-Powerful, the Benevolent, the One who sees you when you stand, and your movement among those who prostrate.

  • It is He, indeed, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

  • Shall I inform you upon whom the Diverters descend? They descend upon every inveterate liar, laden with transgressions, who lend an ear, and most of them are liars.

  • And the beguiling rhetoricians, it is the misled who follow them.

  • Have you not seen that they ramble on about every subject, and that they say what they never do?

  • except those who have believed, done righteous deeds, remembered God much, and defended themselves after being wronged;

  • and those who have done injustice will soon know to what turning point they will turn.
