Al-Ahzab
A Single Core
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. O Prophet, guard yourself before God,
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم يايها النبي اتق اللهand do not obey those who disown nor the hypocrites.
ولا تطع الكفرين والمنفقينGod is indeed All-Knowing, Wise.
ان الله كان عليما حكيماAnd follow what is revealed to you from your Guardian.
واتبع ما يوحى اليك من ربكGod is indeed Informed of what you do.
ان الله كان بما تعملون خبيراAnd rely upon God:
وتوكل على اللهGod suffices as a trustee.
وكفى بالله وكيلاGod has not assigned to any man two cores within his chest.
ما جعل الله لرجل من قلبين في جوفهNor has He made your wives — those against whom you pronounce the exclusion formula — your mothers,
وما جعل ازوجكم الي تظهرون منهن امهتكمnor has He made your adopted sons your [true] sons.
وما جعل ادعياءكم ابناءكمThat is only your saying, [uttered] by your mouths;
ذلكم قولكم بافوهكمand God speaks the truth, and it is He who guides to the way.
والله يقول الحق وهو يهدي السبيلCall them by their fathers' names: that is more equitable with God.
ادعوهم لءابايهم هو اقسط عند اللهAnd if you do not know their fathers, then they are your brothers in the Law, and your allies.
فان لم تعلموا ءاباءهم فاخونكم في الدين وموليكمAnd there is no fault upon you in what you may have gotten wrong,
وليس عليكم جناح فيما اخطاتم بهbut rather in what your cores have premeditated.
ولكن ما تعمدت قلوبكمAnd God is Most-Forgiving, Benevolent.
وكان الله غفورا رحيماThe Prophet has, over the believers, more right than they have over themselves,
النبي اولى بالمومنين من انفسهمand his wives are their mothers.
وازوجه امهتهمAnd those bound by kinship have, toward one another, more right under God's Code than the [unrelated] believers and the emigrants — except that you do what is recognized toward your allies.
واولوا الارحام بعضهم اولى ببعض في كتب الله من المومنين والمهجرين الا ان تفعلوا الى اوليايكم معروفاThat was recorded in the Scripture.
كان ذلك في الكتب مسطوراAnd [recall] when We took from the prophets their solemn engagement, and from you, and from Nuh, Ibrahim, Moussa, and Issa, son of Maryam —
واذ اخذنا من النبين ميثقهم ومنك ومن نوح وابرهيم وموسى وعيسى ابن مريمand We took from them a solemn and firm engagement, so that He might question the truthful about their truthfulness;
واخذنا منهم ميثقا غليظا ليسل الصدقين عن صدقهمand He has prepared for those who disown a painful punishment.
واعد للكفرين عذابا اليماO you who have believed! remember God's blessing upon you, when armies came against you, and We sent upon them a wind and armies you did not see.
يايها الذين ءامنوا اذكروا نعمة الله عليكم اذ جاءتكم جنود فارسلنا عليهم ريحا وجنودا لم تروهاAnd God is All-Seeing of what you do.
وكان الله بما تعملون بصيراremember when they came upon you from above you and from below you,
اذ جاءوكم من فوقكم ومن اسفل منكمand when eyes turned aside, and cores reached the throats, and you conjectured about God all manner of conjectures.
واذ زاغت الابصر وبلغت القلوب الحناجر وتظنون بالله الظنوناThere the believers were tested, and shaken with a violent shaking.
هنالك ابتلي المومنون وزلزلوا زلزالا شديداAnd when the hypocrites, and those in whose cores is a sickness, said, "God and His messenger promised us nothing but delusion,"
واذ يقول المنفقون والذين في قلوبهم مرض ما وعدنا الله ورسوله الا غروراand when a party among them said, "O people of Yathrib, there is no place for you [here]; go back,"
واذ قالت طايفة منهم ياهل يثرب لا مقام لكم فارجعواand a party among them was asking the Prophet's leave, saying, "Our houses lack privacy" — when they did not:
ويستذن فريق منهم النبي يقولون ان بيوتنا عورة وما هي بعورةthey wanted nothing but to flee.
ان يريدون الا فراراAnd if [the city] had been entered from all its sides, and they had then been asked to betray, they would have done it, and would have hesitated but a little.
ولو دخلت عليهم من اقطارها ثم سيلوا الفتنة لءاتوها وما تلبثوا بها الا يسيراAnd they had certainly made a pact with God before, not to turn their backs [in battle];
ولقد كانوا عهدوا الله من قبل لا يولون الادبرand for God's pact one will be held to account.
وكان عهد الله مسولاSay, "Flight will not benefit you if you flee from death or killing,
قل لن ينفعكم الفرار ان فررتم من الموت او القتلand then you would only enjoy [life] a little."
واذا لا تمتعون الا قليلاSay, "Who is it that could shield you from God, should He intend for you harm, or intend for you benevolence?"
قل من ذا الذي يعصمكم من الله ان اراد بكم سوءا او اراد بكم رحمةAnd they will find, besides God, neither ally nor helper.
ولا يجدون لهم من دون الله وليا ولا نصيراGod certainly knows those among you who obstruct, and those who say to their brothers, "Come to us," and who come to the fight only a little, being greedy toward you.
قد يعلم الله المعوقين منكم والقايلين لاخونهم هلم الينا ولا ياتون الباس الا قليلا اشحة عليكمThen, when fear comes, you see them looking at you, their eyes rolling like one overcome by fainting from death.
فاذا جاء الخوف رايتهم ينظرون اليك تدور اعينهم كالذي يغشى عليه من الموتThen, when the fear departs, they assail you with sharp tongues, greedy for any good.
فاذا ذهب الخوف سلقوكم بالسنة حداد اشحة على الخيرThose have not believed, so God has voided their deeds,
اوليك لم يومنوا فاحبط الله اعملهمand that is, for God, an easy thing.
وكان ذلك على الله يسيراThey think the parties have not gone;
يحسبون الاحزاب لم يذهبواand were the parties to come [again], they would wish they had withdrawn among the notables,
وان يات الاحزاب يودوا لو انهم بادون في الاعرابasking about your news; and were they among you, they would have fought only a little.
يسلون عن انبايكم ولو كانوا فيكم ما قتلوا الا قليلاYou have certainly had, in the messenger of God, a beautiful example for whoever hopes for [the meeting with] God and the Last Day, and remembers God much.
لقد كان لكم في رسول الله اسوة حسنة لمن كان يرجوا الله واليوم الءاخر وذكر الله كثيراAnd when the believers saw the parties, they said, "This is what God and His messenger promised us, and God and His messenger spoke truly,"
ولما رءا المومنون الاحزاب قالوا هذا ما وعدنا الله ورسوله وصدق الله ورسولهand it only increased them in faith and [trusting] submission.
وما زادهم الا ايمنا وتسليماAmong the believers are men who have been true to the pact they made with God:
من المومنين رجال صدقوا ما عهدوا الله عليهsome of them have fulfilled their vow [unto death], and some of them are waiting,
فمنهم من قضى نحبه ومنهم من ينتظرand they have not changed in the least — so that God may recompense the truthful for their truthfulness, and punish the hypocrites, if He wills, or turn to them [in forgiveness].
وما بدلوا تبديلا ليجزي الله الصدقين بصدقهم ويعذب المنفقين ان شاء او يتوب عليهمGod is indeed Most-Forgiving, Benevolent.
ان الله كان غفورا رحيماAnd God turned back those who disowned, in their rage, without their obtaining any good;
ورد الله الذين كفروا بغيظهم لم ينالوا خيراand God spared the believers the fight.
وكفى الله المومنين القتالAnd God is Strong, All-Powerful.
وكان الله قويا عزيزاAnd He brought down from their strongholds those, among the People of the Scripture, who had supported them, and cast terror into their cores:
وانزل الذين ظهروهم من اهل الكتب من صياصيهم وقذف في قلوبهم الرعبone party you were killing, and another party you were taking captive;
فريقا تقتلون وتاسرون فريقاand He made you inherit their land, their abodes, and their goods, and a land you had not trodden.
واورثكم ارضهم وديرهم وامولهم وارضا لم تطوهاAnd God is capable of all things.
وكان الله على كل شىء قديراO Prophet, say to your wives, "If you desire the present life and its adornment, come, I will grant you provision and release you with a fitting release;
يايها النبي قل لازوجك ان كنتن تردن الحيوة الدنيا وزينتها فتعالين امتعكن واسرحكن سراحا جميلاbut if you desire God, His messenger, and the last abode, then God has prepared, for those among you who do good, an immense reward."
وان كنتن تردن الله ورسوله والدار الءاخرة فان الله اعد للمحسنت منكن اجرا عظيماO wives of the Prophet, whoever among you commits a manifest indecency, the punishment would be doubled for her, twice over;
ينساء النبي من يات منكن بفحشة مبينة يضعف لها العذاب ضعفينand that is, for God, an easy thing.
وكان ذلك على الله يسيراAnd whoever among you is devoted to God and His messenger and does righteousness, We will give her reward twice, and We have prepared for her a generous provision.
ومن يقنت منكن لله ورسوله وتعمل صلحا نوتها اجرها مرتين واعتدنا لها رزقا كريماO wives of the Prophet, you are not like any other of women, if you guard yourselves [before Him].
ينساء النبي لستن كاحد من النساء ان اتقيتنSo do not be complaisant in saying, lest he in whose core is a sickness should covet; and speak a recognized saying, and remain in your houses,
فلا تخضعن بالقول فيطمع الذي في قلبه مرض وقلن قولا معروفا وقرن في بيوتكنand do not flaunt yourselves as was flaunted in the former ignorance.
ولا تبرجن تبرج الجهلية الاولىMaintain the Contact, and give the purifying alms,
واقمن الصلوة وءاتين الزكوةand obey God and His messenger.
واطعن الله ورسولهGod only intends to remove from you impurity, People of the House, and to purify you completely.
انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس اهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيراAnd remember what is recited in your houses of God's signs and wisdom.
واذكرن ما يتلى في بيوتكن من ءايت الله والحكمةGod is indeed Subtle, Informed.
ان الله كان لطيفا خبيراMen true to God alone and women true to God alone, believing men and believing women, devoted men and devoted women, truthful men and truthful women, enduring men and enduring women, humble men and humble women, men who give alms and women who give alms, men and women who abstain from vain speech, men who preserve their private parts and women who preserve them, men who remember God much and women who remember Him — God has prepared for them forgiveness and an immense reward.
ان المسلمين والمسلمت والمومنين والمومنت والقنتين والقنتت والصدقين والصدقت والصبرين والصبرت والخشعين والخشعت والمتصدقين والمتصدقت والصيمين والصيمت والحفظين فروجهم والحفظت والذكرين الله كثيرا والذكرت اعد الله لهم مغفرة واجرا عظيماAnd it is not for any believing man or believing woman, when God and His messenger have decided a matter, to have the choice in their own affair.
وما كان لمومن ولا مومنة اذا قضى الله ورسوله امرا ان يكون لهم الخيرة من امرهمAnd whoever disobeys God and His messenger has strayed into manifest error.
ومن يعص الله ورسوله فقد ضل ضللا مبيناAnd [recall] when you said to the one God had favored and you had favored, "Keep your wife and guard yourself before God," while concealing within yourself what God was going to make known, and dreading the people, when God is more deserving that you dread Him.
واذ تقول للذي انعم الله عليه وانعمت عليه امسك عليك زوجك واتق الله وتخفي في نفسك ما الله مبديه وتخشى الناس والله احق ان تخشىهThen when Zayd had ended all engagement toward her, We gave her to you in marriage, so that there would be no discomfort for the believers concerning the wives of their adopted sons, once they have ended all engagement toward them.
فلما قضى زيد منها وطرا زوجنكها لكى لا يكون على المومنين حرج في ازوج ادعيايهم اذا قضوا منهن وطراAnd God's command is [always] carried out.
وكان امر الله مفعولاThere is no discomfort for the Prophet in what God has ordained for him —
ما كان على النبي من حرج فيما فرض الله لهsuch was God's norm with those who passed before.
سنة الله في الذين خلوا من قبلAnd God's command is a decree determined.
وكان امر الله قدرا مقدوراThose who deliver God's messages, and dread Him, and dread no one but God —
الذين يبلغون رسلت الله ويخشونه ولا يخشون احدا الا اللهand God suffices as an accountant.
وكفى بالله حسيباMuhammad is not the father of any of your men,
ما كان محمد ابا احد من رجالكمbut rather the messenger of God and the seal of the prophets.
ولكن رسول الله وخاتم النبينAnd God is All-Knowing of all things.
وكان الله بكل شىء عليماO you who have believed! remember God much, and glorify Him morning and evening.
يايها الذين ءامنوا اذكروا الله ذكرا كثيرا وسبحوه بكرة واصيلاIt is He who is in contact with you, He and His Agents, so as to bring you out of the darknesses into the light;
هو الذي يصلي عليكم ومليكته ليخرجكم من الظلمت الى النورand He is, toward the believers, Benevolent.
وكان بالمومنين رحيماTheir greeting, the day they meet Him, will be, "Peace."
تحيتهم يوم يلقونه سلمAnd He has prepared for them a generous reward.
واعد لهم اجرا كريماO Prophet, We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of good tidings, and a warner, as one calling to God by His permission, and as an illuminating torch.
يايها النبي انا ارسلنك شهدا ومبشرا ونذيرا وداعيا الى الله باذنه وسراجا منيراAnd give the believers the good news that they will have, from God, great favor.
وبشر المومنين بان لهم من الله فضلا كبيراAnd do not obey those who disown nor the hypocrites,
ولا تطع الكفرين والمنفقينand disregard their nuisance,
ودع اذىهمand rely upon God:
وتوكل على اللهGod suffices as a trustee.
وكفى بالله وكيلاO you who have believed! when you marry believing women and then divorce them before you have touched them, you have no waiting period against them for you to count.
يايها الذين ءامنوا اذا نكحتم المومنت ثم طلقتموهن من قبل ان تمسوهن فما لكم عليهن من عدة تعتدونهاSo grant them provision, and release them with a fitting release.
فمتعوهن وسرحوهن سراحا جميلاO Prophet, We have made lawful to you your wives to whom you have given their bridal gifts, she who is bound to you by pledge among what God has granted you, and the daughters of your paternal uncle, the daughters of your paternal aunts, the daughters of your maternal uncle, and the daughters of your maternal aunts who emigrated with you, and any believing woman if she gives herself to the Prophet — provided the Prophet wishes to marry her:
يايها النبي انا احللنا لك ازوجك التي ءاتيت اجورهن وما ملكت يمينك مما افاء الله عليك وبنات عمك وبنات عمتك وبنات خالك وبنات خلتك التي هاجرن معك وامراة مومنة ان وهبت نفسها للنبي ان اراد النبي ان يستنكحهاexclusively for you, and not for the [other] believers.
خالصة لك من دون المومنينWe certainly know what We have ordained for them concerning their wives and those bound to them by pledge, so that there may be no discomfort for you;
قد علمنا ما فرضنا عليهم في ازوجهم وما ملكت ايمنهم لكيلا يكون عليك حرجand God is Most-Forgiving, Benevolent.
وكان الله غفورا رحيماYou may defer whom you will of them, and take to yourself whom you will;
ترجي من تشاء منهن وتوي اليك من تشاءand whomever you desire of those you had set aside, no blame attaches to you.
ومن ابتغيت ممن عزلت فلا جناح عليكThat is more fitting so that their gaze may settle, and they not grieve, and they be content, all of them, with what you give them.
ذلك ادنى ان تقر اعينهن ولا يحزن ويرضين بما ءاتيتهن كلهنAnd God knows what is in your cores;
والله يعلم ما في قلوبكمand God is All-Knowing, Forbearing.
وكان الله عليما حليماIt is not lawful for you [to marry other] women after this, nor to exchange them for other wives, even were their beauty to please you — except she who is bound to you by pledge.
لا يحل لك النساء من بعد ولا ان تبدل بهن من ازوج ولو اعجبك حسنهن الا ما ملكت يمينكAnd God watches over all things.
وكان الله على كل شىء رقيباO you who have believed! do not enter the houses of the Prophet unless permission is given you for food, without awaiting its readiness;
يايها الذين ءامنوا لا تدخلوا بيوت النبي الا ان يوذن لكم الى طعام غير نظرين انىهbut when you are invited, enter; and when you have fed, deploy, without lingering for discourse.
ولكن اذا دعيتم فادخلوا فاذا طعمتم فانتشروا ولا مستنسين لحديثThat used to trouble the Prophet, though he felt shy toward you,
ان ذلكم كان يوذي النبي فيستحي منكمwhereas God is not shy of the truth.
والله لا يستحي من الحقAnd when you ask them for an item, ask them from behind a screen:
واذا سالتموهن متعا فسلوهن من وراء حجابthat is purer for your cores and their cores.
ذلكم اطهر لقلوبكم وقلوبهنAnd it is not for you to trouble the messenger of God, nor to marry his wives after him, ever;
وما كان لكم ان توذوا رسول الله ولا ان تنكحوا ازوجه من بعده ابداthat is indeed, with God, immense.
ان ذلكم كان عند الله عظيماWhether you disclose a thing or conceal it, God is All-Knowing of all things.
ان تبدوا شيا او تخفوه فان الله كان بكل شىء عليماThere is no blame upon them concerning their fathers, nor their sons, nor their brothers, nor their brothers' sons, nor their sisters' sons, nor the women of their own circle, nor those bound to them by pledge.
لا جناح عليهن في ءابايهن ولا ابنايهن ولا اخونهن ولا ابناء اخونهن ولا ابناء اخوتهن ولا نسايهن ولا ما ملكت ايمنهنAnd guard yourselves before God:
واتقين اللهGod is indeed, over all things, a witness.
ان الله كان على كل شىء شهيداGod and His Agents are in constant contact with the Prophet.
ان الله ومليكته يصلون على النبيO you who have believed! be in contact with him, and greet him with a [peaceful] salutation.
يايها الذين ءامنوا صلوا عليه وسلموا تسليماThose who trouble God and His messenger — God has cursed them in the present life and the last life, and has prepared for them a degrading punishment.
ان الذين يوذون الله ورسوله لعنهم الله في الدنيا والءاخرة واعد لهم عذابا مهيناAnd those who trouble believing men and believing women for anything other than what they have earned bear the weight of slander and manifest transgression.
والذين يوذون المومنين والمومنت بغير ما اكتسبوا فقد احتملوا بهتنا واثما مبيناO Prophet, tell your wives, your daughters, and the women of the believers to draw over themselves part of their outer garments:
يايها النبي قل لازوجك وبناتك ونساء المومنين يدنين عليهن من جلبيبهنthat is more fitting so that they will be recognized and not be troubled.
ذلك ادنى ان يعرفن فلا يوذينAnd God is Most-Forgiving, Benevolent.
وكان الله غفورا رحيماIf the hypocrites, those in whose cores is a sickness, and the rumor-mongers in the Capital do not cease, We will certainly incite you against them; then they will not remain your neighbors there except a little, being cursed.
لين لم ينته المنفقون والذين في قلوبهم مرض والمرجفون في المدينة لنغرينك بهم ثم لا يجاورونك فيها الا قليلا ملعونينWherever they are found, they will be seized and massacred in an utter massacre.
اينما ثقفوا اخذوا وقتلوا تقتيلا[Such was] God's norm with those who passed before,
سنة الله في الذين خلوا من قبلand you will never find in God's norm any change.
ولن تجد لسنة الله تبديلاThe people ask you about the Hour.
يسلك الناس عن الساعةSay, "Knowledge of it is only with God,
قل انما علمها عند اللهand what gives you an idea?
وما يدريكPerhaps the Hour is near."
لعل الساعة تكون قريباGod has indeed cursed those who disown, and has prepared for them an Inferno in which they will abide eternally, forever, finding neither ally nor helper —
ان الله لعن الكفرين واعد لهم سعيرا خلدين فيها ابدا لا يجدون وليا ولا نصيراthe day their direction is overturned in the Fire, they will say, "Would that we had obeyed God and obeyed the messenger!"
يوم تقلب وجوههم في النار يقولون يليتنا اطعنا الله واطعنا الرسولاAnd they will say, "Our Guardian, we obeyed our chiefs and our great ones, and they led us astray from the way.
وقالوا ربنا انا اطعنا سادتنا وكبراءنا فاضلونا السبيلاOur Guardian, give them double punishment, and curse them with a many-fold curse."
ربنا ءاتهم ضعفين من العذاب والعنهم لعنا كبيراO you who have believed! do not be like those who troubled Moussa; God declared him innocent of what they said,
يايها الذين ءامنوا لا تكونوا كالذين ءاذوا موسى فبراه الله مما قالواand he was, with God, of high standing.
وكان عند الله وجيهاO you who have believed! guard yourselves toward God and speak a straight saying: He will set right your deeds for you and forgive you your offenses.
يايها الذين ءامنوا اتقوا الله وقولوا قولا سديدا يصلح لكم اعملكم ويغفر لكم ذنوبكمAnd whoever obeys God and His messenger has attained an immense triumph.
ومن يطع الله ورسوله فقد فاز فوزا عظيماWe offered the trust to the heavens, the earth, and the mountains; they refused to bear it and were apprehensive of it,
انا عرضنا الامانة على السموت والارض والجبال فابين ان يحملنها واشفقن منهاand the human being bore it: he was indeed deeply unjust, deeply ignorant — so that God may punish the hypocrites, men and women, and those who associate [others with God], men and women, and turn in forgiveness to the believing men and the believing women.
وحملها الانسن انه كان ظلوما جهولا ليعذب الله المنفقين والمنفقت والمشركين والمشركت ويتوب الله على المومنين والمومنتAnd God is Most-Forgiving, Benevolent.
وكان الله غفورا رحيما
