Oaths as a Shield
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. When the hypocrites come to you, they say: We testify that you are surely the messenger of God.
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم اذا جاءك المنفقون قالوا نشهد انك لرسول اللهAnd God knows that you are surely His messenger.
والله يعلم انك لرسولهAnd God testifies that the hypocrites are surely liars.
والله يشهد ان المنفقين لكذبونThey have taken their oaths as a shield and turned [people] away from the way of God.
اتخذوا ايمنهم جنة فصدوا عن سبيل اللهHow evil indeed is what they used to do!
انهم ساء ما كانوا يعملونThat is because they believed, then disowned; so a seal was set upon their cores, and they do not understand.
ذلك بانهم ءامنوا ثم كفروا فطبع على قلوبهم فهم لا يفقهونAnd when you see them, their appearance pleases you,
واذا رايتهم تعجبك اجسامهمand if they speak, you listen to their speech; they are like propped-up pieces of wood.
وان يقولوا تسمع لقولهم كانهم خشب مسندةThey think every shout is against them.
يحسبون كل صيحة عليهمThey are the enemy.
هم العدوSo beware of them.
فاحذرهمMay God combat them!
قتلهم اللهHow are they deluded!
انى يوفكونAnd when it is said to them: Come, that the messenger of God may ask forgiveness for you, they turn their heads aside, and you see them withdrawing while they are arrogant.
واذا قيل لهم تعالوا يستغفر لكم رسول الله لووا رءوسهم ورايتهم يصدون وهم مستكبرونIt is the same for them whether you ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for them.
سواء عليهم استغفرت لهم ام لم تستغفر لهمGod will never forgive them.
لن يغفر الله لهمIndeed, God does not guide the overstepping people.
ان الله لا يهدي القوم الفسقينThey are the ones who say: Do not spend on those who are with the messenger of God until they disperse.
هم الذين يقولون لا تنفقوا على من عند رسول الله حتى ينفضواBut to God belong the treasures of the heavens and the earth,
ولله خزاين السموت والارضbut the hypocrites do not understand.
ولكن المنفقين لا يفقهونThey say: If we return to the Capital, the mightier will surely expel the more abased therefrom.
يقولون لين رجعنا الى المدينة ليخرجن الاعز منها الاذلBut to God belongs might, and to His messenger, and to the believers,
ولله العزة ولرسوله وللمومنينbut the hypocrites do not know.
ولكن المنفقين لا يعلمونO you who have believed! Let not your goods or your children distract you from the remembrance of God.
يايها الذين ءامنوا لا تلهكم امولكم ولا اولدكم عن ذكر اللهAnd whoever does that — those are the losers.
ومن يفعل ذلك فاوليك هم الخسرونAnd spend from what We have provided you before death comes to one of you, and he says: My Guardian, if only You would delay me for a short term, that I might give charity and be among the righteous.
وانفقوا من ما رزقنكم من قبل ان ياتي احدكم الموت فيقول رب لولا اخرتني الى اجل قريب فاصدق واكن من الصلحينBut God will never delay a Self when its term has come.
ولن يوخر الله نفسا اذا جاء اجلهاAnd God is Informed of what you do.
والله خبير بما تعملون
