Four Women as Examples
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. O Prophet! Why do you forbid what God has made lawful for you, seeking the approval of your wives?
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم يايها النبي لم تحرم ما احل الله لك تبتغي مرضات ازوجكAnd God is Most-Forgiving, Benevolent.
والله غفور رحيمGod has prescribed for you the release from your oaths,
قد فرض الله لكم تحلة ايمنكمand God is your nearest Guarantor.
والله مولىكمAnd He is the All-Knowing, the Wise.
وهو العليم الحكيمAnd when the Prophet confided a matter in secret to one of his wives,
واذ اسر النبي الى بعض ازوجه حديثاand she disclosed it, and God made it known to him, he made known part of it and passed over another part.
فلما نبات به واظهره الله عليه عرف بعضه واعرض عن بعضThen, when he told her of it, she said: 'Who informed you of this?' He said: 'The All-Knowing, the Informed informed me.'
فلما نباها به قالت من انباك هذا قال نباني العليم الخبيرIf you two turn to God in repentance — for your cores have indeed swerved —
ان تتوبا الى الله فقد صغت قلوبكماbut if you support one another against him, then God is his nearest Guarantor, and Gabriel, and the righteous among the believers,
وان تظهرا عليه فان الله هو مولىه وجبريل وصلح المومنينand the Agents, moreover, are his support.
والمليكة بعد ذلك ظهيرIt may be that his Guardian, if he divorces you, will give him in exchange wives better than you: true to God alone, believing, devoted, repentant, obedient, free in their movement, previously married or virgins.
عسى ربه ان طلقكن ان يبدله ازوجا خيرا منكن مسلمت مومنت قنتت تيبت عبدت سيحت ثيبت وابكاراO you who have believed! Guard your Selves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are Agents, harsh and severe, who do not disobey God in what He commands them, and who do what they are commanded.
يايها الذين ءامنوا قوا انفسكم واهليكم نارا وقودها الناس والحجارة عليها مليكة غلاظ شداد لا يعصون الله ما امرهم ويفعلون ما يومرونO you who disowned! Do not make excuses today: you are only being recompensed for what you used to do.
يايها الذين كفروا لا تعتذروا اليوم انما تجزون ما كنتم تعملونO you who have believed! Turn to God in sincere repentance. It may be that your Guardian will cover your misdeeds and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow, on the day when God will not disgrace the Prophet nor those who believed with him; their light will run before them and on their right.
يايها الذين ءامنوا توبوا الى الله توبة نصوحا عسى ربكم ان يكفر عنكم سياتكم ويدخلكم جنت تجري من تحتها الانهر يوم لا يخزي الله النبي والذين ءامنوا معه نورهم يسعى بين ايديهم وبايمنهمThey will say: 'Our Guardian, complete our light for us and forgive us.'
يقولون ربنا اتمم لنا نورنا واغفر لناYou are indeed capable of all things.
انك على كل شىء قديرO Prophet! Strive against those who disown and the hypocrites, and be firm with them.
يايها النبي جهد الكفار والمنفقين واغلظ عليهمTheir refuge is Jahannam,
وماوىهم جهنمand what an evil destination!
وبيس المصيرGod multiplies examples for those who disowned: the wife of Nuh and the wife of Lut.
ضرب الله مثلا للذين كفروا امرات نوح وامرات لوطthey were under two of Our righteous obedient ones, yet they betrayed them, so those two were of no avail to them against God,
كانتا تحت عبدين من عبادنا صلحين فخانتاهما فلم يغنيا عنهما من الله شياand it was said: 'Enter, both of you, the Fire with those who enter.'
وقيل ادخلا النار مع الدخلينAnd God multiplies examples for those who believe: the wife of Fir'awn, when she said: 'My Guardian, build for me, near You, a home in the Garden, and save me from Fir'awn and his doing, and save me from the wrongdoing people.'
وضرب الله مثلا للذين ءامنوا امرات فرعون اذ قالت رب ابن لي عندك بيتا في الجنة ونجني من فرعون وعمله ونجني من القوم الظلمينAnd Maryam, daughter of Imran, who protected her intimacy; We breathed into it of Our Influx. She declared true the words of her Guardian and His scriptures, and was among the devoted.
ومريم ابنت عمرن التي احصنت فرجها فنفخنا فيه من روحنا وصدقت بكلمت ربها وكتبه وكانت من القنتين
