Al-Muddaththir
Arise and Warn
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. O you who are covered in a cloak! Arise and warn,
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم يايها المدثر قم فانذرand your Guardian, proclaim His greatness,
وربك فكبرand your garments, purify,
وثيابك فطهرand defilement, avoid,
والرجز فاهجرand do not confer favor seeking more in return,
ولا تمنن تستكثرand for your Guardian, be patient.
ولربك فاصبرThen, when the trumpet is sounded, that Day will be a difficult day, not easy for the disowners.
فاذا نقر في الناقور فذلك يوميذ يوم عسير على الكفرين غير يسيرLeave Me with the one I created alone, and gave him extensive goods, and sons present with him, and spread everything before him, easing his life — then he desires that I should add more. By no means!
ذرني ومن خلقت وحيدا وجعلت له مالا ممدودا وبنين شهودا ومهدت له تمهيدا ثم يطمع ان ازيد كلاIndeed, he has been, toward Our signs, obstinate.
انه كان لءايتنا عنيداI will overburden him with a steep ascent.
سارهقه صعوداIndeed, he thought and determined. So may he perish, how he determined! Again, may he perish, how he determined! Then he considered; then he frowned and scowled; then he turned back and was arrogant, and said, "This is nothing but illusion passed down; this is nothing but the word of a human."
انه فكر وقدر فقتل كيف قدر ثم قتل كيف قدر ثم نظر ثم عبس وبسر ثم ادبر واستكبر فقال ان هذا الا سحر يوثر ان هذا الا قول البشرI will make him burn in Saqar.
ساصليه سقرAnd what will make you know what Saqar is?
وما ادرىك ما سقرIt leaves nothing and spares nothing,
لا تبقي ولا تذرvisibly altering the skin of humans.
لواحة للبشرOver it are nineteen.
عليها تسعة عشرAnd We have not made the companions of the Fire except Agents,
وما جعلنا اصحب النار الا مليكةand We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disown — that those given the Writ may be certain, and those who believe may increase in faith, and those given the Writ and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose cores is a sickness and the disowners may say, "What did God intend by this image?"
وما جعلنا عدتهم الا فتنة للذين كفروا ليستيقن الذين اوتوا الكتب ويزداد الذين ءامنوا ايمنا ولا يرتاب الذين اوتوا الكتب والمومنون وليقول الذين في قلوبهم مرض والكفرون ماذا اراد الله بهذا مثلاThus does God leave astray whom He wills and guide whom He wills.
كذلك يضل الله من يشاء ويهدي من يشاءAnd none knows the soldiers of your Guardian except Him.
وما يعلم جنود ربك الا هوAnd it is not but a reminder to humans.
وما هي الا ذكرى للبشرBy no means! By the moon, and the night as it departs, and the dawn as it shines forth — surely, it is one of the greatest [things], a warning to humans, to whoever among you wills to advance or to remain behind.
كلا والقمر واليل اذ ادبر والصبح اذا اسفر انها لاحدى الكبر نذيرا للبشر لمن شاء منكم ان يتقدم او يتاخرEvery Self is a pledge for what it has earned, except the companions of the right,
كل نفس بما كسبت رهينة الا اصحب اليمينin gardens, they will ask one another about the severed: "What has led you into Saqar?"
في جنت يتساءلون عن المجرمين ما سلككم في سقرThey will say, "We were not of those who made contact, nor did we use to feed the destitute, and we used to indulge with those who indulged, and we used to deny the Day of Retribution, until certainty came to us."
قالوا لم نك من المصلين ولم نك نطعم المسكين وكنا نخوض مع الخايضين وكنا نكذب بيوم الدين حتى اتىنا اليقينSo there will not benefit them the intercession of any intercessors.
فما تنفعهم شفعة الشفعينSo what is with them that they turn away from the reminder, as if they were terrified donkeys, fleeing from a lion?
فما لهم عن التذكرة معرضين كانهم حمر مستنفرة فرت من قسورةRather, every one of them desires that he would be given scrolls unrolled.
بل يريد كل امري منهم ان يوتى صحفا منشرةBy no means! But they do not fear the last life.
كلا بل لا يخافون الءاخرةBy no means! Indeed, this is a reminder;
كلا انه تذكرةso whoever wills may remember it.
فمن شاء ذكرهAnd they will not remember except that God wills.
وما يذكرون الا ان يشاء اللهHe is worthy that one guard oneself before Him, and He is worthy to forgive.
هو اهل التقوى واهل المغفرة
