My Guardian Is God
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Ḥa. Mim.
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم حمThe descent of the Scripture comes from God, the All-Powerful, the All-Knowing, He who forgives offense and accepts repentance, severe in sanction, possessor of largesse,
تنزيل الكتب من الله العزيز العليم غافر الذنب وقابل التوب شديد العقاب ذي الطولthere is no deity but Him;
لا اله الا هوto Him is the destination.
اليه المصيرOnly those who disown argue concerning the signs of God;
ما يجدل في ءايت الله الا الذين كفرواso let not their bustling about through the lands deceive you.
فلا يغررك تقلبهم في البلدBefore them, the people of Nuh denied, and the parties after them,
كذبت قبلهم قوم نوح والاحزاب من بعدهمand every community intended to seize its messenger,
وهمت كل امة برسولهم لياخذوهarguing by falsehood to refute the truth with it — so I seized them:
وجدلوا بالبطل ليدحضوا به الحق فاخذتهمhow was My sanction!
فكيف كان عقابThus did the word of your Guardian prove true against those who disown: they are the companions of the Fire.
وكذلك حقت كلمت ربك على الذين كفروا انهم اصحب النارThose who bear the Edifice and those around it glorify their Guardian with praise, believe in Him, and ask forgiveness for those who believe:
الذين يحملون العرش ومن حوله يسبحون بحمد ربهم ويومنون به ويستغفرون للذين ءامنوا"Our Guardian, You encompass all things in benevolence and knowledge; so forgive those who repent and follow Your path, and protect them from the punishment of the Blaze;
ربنا وسعت كل شىء رحمة وعلما فاغفر للذين تابوا واتبعوا سبيلك وقهم عذاب الجحيمOur Guardian, admit them into the gardens of permanent abode that You have promised them, along with whoever acted rightly among their fathers, their spouses, and their offspring;
ربنا وادخلهم جنت عدن التي وعدتهم ومن صلح من ءابايهم وازوجهم وذريتهمYou, indeed, are the All-Powerful, the Wise.
انك انت العزيز الحكيمAnd protect them from evil deeds;
وقهم السياتwhoever You protect from evil deeds that day, You have shown him benevolence,
ومن تق السيات يوميذ فقد رحمتهand that is the immense triumph."
وذلك هو الفوز العظيمThose who disown will be called out to: "God's detestation is greater than your own detestation of yourselves, when you were called to faith and you disowned."
ان الذين كفروا ينادون لمقت الله اكبر من مقتكم انفسكم اذ تدعون الى الايمن فتكفرونThey will say: "Our Guardian, You made us die twice and made us live twice; we acknowledge our offenses — is there then any way out?"
قالوا ربنا امتنا اثنتين واحييتنا اثنتين فاعترفنا بذنوبنا فهل الى خروج من سبيلThat is because, when God alone was invoked, you disowned, and when something was associated with Him, you believed;
ذلكم بانه اذا دعي الله وحده كفرتم وان يشرك به تومنواso judgment belongs to God, the Most High, the Great.
فالحكم لله العلي الكبيرIt is He who shows you His signs and sends down provision for you from the sky;
هو الذي يريكم ءايته وينزل لكم من السماء رزقاbut only he who turns back [to Him] takes heed.
وما يتذكر الا من ينيبSo call upon God, devoting the Law exclusively to Him, however much those who disown detest it.
فادعوا الله مخلصين له الدين ولو كره الكفرونHe is the Raiser of ranks, possessor of the Edifice;
رفيع الدرجت ذو العرشHe casts the Influx of His command upon whom He wills among His obedient ones, to warn of the Day of Meeting, the day they will appear exposed,
يلقي الروح من امره على من يشاء من عباده لينذر يوم التلاق يوم هم برزونnothing of them is hidden from God.
لا يخفى على الله منهم شىءTo whom belongs the dominion today?
لمن الملك اليومTo God, the One, the Overpowering.
لله الوحد القهارToday every Self will be recompensed for what it earned;
اليوم تجزى كل نفس بما كسبتno injustice today;
لا ظلم اليومGod is indeed swift in reckoning.
ان الله سريع الحسابWarn them of the imminent Day, when the cores will be at the throats, choked with distress,
وانذرهم يوم الءازفة اذ القلوب لدى الحناجر كظمينthe wrongdoers will have neither a warm friend nor an intercessor who is heeded.
ما للظلمين من حميم ولا شفيع يطاعHe knows the treachery of glances and what the chests conceal.
يعلم خاينة الاعين وما تخفي الصدورGod judges with truth,
والله يقضي بالحقwhile those they invoke besides Him judge nothing;
والذين يدعون من دونه لا يقضون بشىءGod is indeed the All-Hearing, the One who sees perfectly.
ان الله هو السميع البصيرHave they not traveled through the earth to see how the end was of those before them?
اولم يسيروا في الارض فينظروا كيف كان عقبة الذين كانوا من قبلهمThey were stronger than them in might and in traces left on the earth, and God seized them for their offenses;
كانوا هم اشد منهم قوة وءاثارا في الارض فاخذهم الله بذنوبهمno protector defended them against God.
وما كان لهم من الله من واقThat was because their messengers used to bring them clear proofs, but they disowned; so God seized them:
ذلك بانهم كانت تاتيهم رسلهم بالبينت فكفروا فاخذهم اللهHe is indeed strong, severe in sanction.
انه قوي شديد العقابWe certainly sent Moussa with Our signs and a clear authority, to Fir'awn, Haman, and Qaroon; they said: "A worker of illusion, a great liar."
ولقد ارسلنا موسى بايتنا وسلطن مبين الى فرعون وهمن وقرون فقالوا سحر كذابThen, when he brought them the truth from Us, they said: "Kill the sons of those who believed with him, and violate the modesty of their women";
فلما جاءهم بالحق من عندنا قالوا اقتلوا ابناء الذين ءامنوا معه واستحيوا نساءهمbut the scheming of those who disown is only in error.
وما كيد الكفرين الا في ضللFir'awn said: "Leave me to kill Moussa, and let him call upon his Guardian! I fear he may change your Law and bring about corruption in the land."
وقال فرعون ذروني اقتل موسى وليدع ربه اني اخاف ان يبدل دينكم او ان يظهر في الارض الفسادMoussa said: "I take refuge in my Guardian and your Guardian from every arrogant one who does not believe in the Day of Reckoning."
وقال موسى اني عذت بربي وربكم من كل متكبر لا يومن بيوم الحسابA believing man from the clan of Fir'awn, who concealed his faith, said: "Will you kill a man for saying, 'My Guardian is God,' when he has brought you clear proofs from your Guardian? If he is lying, his lie is upon him; and if he is truthful, some of what he threatens you with will befall you."
وقال رجل مومن من ءال فرعون يكتم ايمنه اتقتلون رجلا ان يقول ربي الله وقد جاءكم بالبينت من ربكم وان يك كذبا فعليه كذبه وان يك صادقا يصبكم بعض الذي يعدكمGod does not guide one who is excessive, a great liar.
ان الله لا يهدي من هو مسرف كذاب"O my people, the dominion is yours today, you are dominant in the land; but who will help us against God's rigor if it comes upon us?"
يقوم لكم الملك اليوم ظهرين في الارض فمن ينصرنا من باس الله ان جاءناFir'awn said: "I show you only what I myself see, and I guide you only to the path of rectitude."
قال فرعون ما اريكم الا ما ارى وما اهديكم الا سبيل الرشادThe one who had believed said: "O my people, I fear for you a day like that of the parties, like the fate of the people of Nuh, the Recidivists [Aad], the Depleters [Thamud], and those who came after them;
وقال الذي ءامن يقوم اني اخاف عليكم مثل يوم الاحزاب مثل داب قوم نوح وعاد وثمود والذين من بعدهمand God does not intend any injustice for the obedient ones."
وما الله يريد ظلما للعبادO my people, I fear for you the Day of Mutual Calling, the day you will turn your backs fleeing, with no preserver for you against God;
ويقوم اني اخاف عليكم يوم التناد يوم تولون مدبرين ما لكم من الله من عاصمand whoever God sends astray has no guide.
ومن يضلل الله فما له من هادYoussof certainly came to you before with clear proofs, and you did not cease to be in doubt about what he brought you, until, when he perished, you said: 'God will not send a messenger after him';
ولقد جاءكم يوسف من قبل بالبينت فما زلتم في شك مما جاءكم به حتى اذا هلك قلتم لن يبعث الله من بعده رسولاthus does God send astray whoever is excessive, full of doubt —
كذلك يضل الله من هو مسرف مرتابthose who argue concerning the signs of God without any authority having come to them;
الذين يجدلون في ءايت الله بغير سلطن اتىهمit is a grave thing in detestation, in the sight of God and of those who believe.
كبر مقتا عند الله وعند الذين ءامنواThus does God seal the core of every arrogant tyrant.
كذلك يطبع الله على كل قلب متكبر جبارFir'awn said: "O Haman, build me a tower, that I may reach the passages, the passages to the heavens, and glimpse the deity of Moussa; I certainly think he is lying."
وقال فرعون يهمن ابن لي صرحا لعلي ابلغ الاسبب اسبب السموت فاطلع الى اله موسى واني لاظنه كذباThus was the evil of his deed made appealing to Fir'awn, and he was turned away from the path;
وكذلك زين لفرعون سوء عمله وصد عن السبيلFir'awn's scheming was nothing but ruin.
وما كيد فرعون الا في تبابThe one who had believed said: "O my people, follow me; I will guide you to the path of rectitude;
وقال الذي ءامن يقوم اتبعون اهدكم سبيل الرشادO my people, the present life is only fleeting enjoyment,
يقوم انما هذه الحيوة الدنيا متعwhile the last life is the home of permanence.
وان الءاخرة هي دار القرارWhoever does an evil deed is recompensed only its equivalent,
من عمل سيية فلا يجزى الا مثلهاand whoever does what is right, male or female, while being a believer, those will enter the Garden, provided for therein without account.
ومن عمل صلحا من ذكر او انثى وهو مومن فاوليك يدخلون الجنة يرزقون فيها بغير حسابO my people, why is it that I call you to salvation while you call me to the Fire?
ويقوم ما لي ادعوكم الى النجوة وتدعونني الى النارYou call me to disown God and to associate with Him what I have no knowledge of, while I call you to the All-Powerful, the Great Forgiver;
تدعونني لاكفر بالله واشرك به ما ليس لي به علم وانا ادعوكم الى العزيز الغفرthere is no doubt that what you call me to has no call in the present life or in the last life, that our return is to God, and that the excessive ones are the companions of the Fire.
لا جرم انما تدعونني اليه ليس له دعوة في الدنيا ولا في الءاخرة وان مردنا الى الله وان المسرفين هم اصحب النارYou will soon remember what I say to you;
فستذكرون ما اقول لكمI entrust my affair to God;
وافوض امري الى اللهGod sees perfectly the obedient ones.
ان الله بصير بالعبادSo God protected him from the evils of what they plotted,
فوقىه الله سيات ما مكرواand the worst punishment enveloped the clan of Fir'awn:
وحاق بال فرعون سوء العذابthe Fire, to which they are exposed morning and evening,
النار يعرضون عليها غدوا وعشياand the day the Hour rises: "Admit the clan of Fir'awn into the most severe punishment."
ويوم تقوم الساعة ادخلوا ءال فرعون اشد العذابAnd when they dispute with one another in the Fire, the weak will say to those who were arrogant: "We were your followers; can you then spare us a share of the Fire?"
واذ يتحاجون في النار فيقول الضعفوا للذين استكبروا انا كنا لكم تبعا فهل انتم مغنون عنا نصيبا من النارThose who were arrogant will say: "We are all in it; God has already judged between the obedient ones."
قال الذين استكبروا انا كل فيها ان الله قد حكم بين العبادThose in the Fire will say to the keepers of Jahannam: "Call upon your Guardian to lighten for us, even for one day, the punishment."
وقال الذين في النار لخزنة جهنم ادعوا ربكم يخفف عنا يوما من العذابThey will say: "Did your messengers not bring you clear proofs?" They will say: "Yes indeed." They will say: "Then call [yourselves]."
قالوا اولم تك تاتيكم رسلكم بالبينت قالوا بلى قالوا فادعواBut the calling of those who disown is only in error.
وما دعوا الكفرين الا في ضللWe surely help Our messengers and those who believe, in the present life and on the day the witnesses rise, the day the excuse of the wrongdoers will not benefit them; theirs will be the curse, and theirs the worst of homes.
انا لننصر رسلنا والذين ءامنوا في الحيوة الدنيا ويوم يقوم الاشهد يوم لا ينفع الظلمين معذرتهم ولهم اللعنة ولهم سوء الدارWe certainly gave Moussa the guidance, and made the Sons of Israel inherit the Scripture, a guidance and a reminder for the possessors of intelligence.
ولقد ءاتينا موسى الهدى واورثنا بني اسرءيل الكتب هدى وذكرى لاولي الالببSo be patient: God's promise is indeed truth;
فاصبر ان وعد الله حقask forgiveness for your offense, and glorify, with praise, your Guardian, in the evening and the morning.
واستغفر لذنبك وسبح بحمد ربك بالعشي والابكرThose who argue concerning the signs of God without any authority having come to them have in their chests nothing but pride they will never attain;
ان الذين يجدلون في ءايت الله بغير سلطن اتىهم ان في صدورهم الا كبر ما هم ببلغيهso seek refuge in God:
فاستعذ باللهit is indeed He, the All-Hearing, the One who sees perfectly.
انه هو السميع البصيرThe creation of the heavens and the earth is indeed greater than the creation of mankind,
لخلق السموت والارض اكبر من خلق الناسbut most people do not know.
ولكن اكثر الناس لا يعلمونThe blind and the seeing are not equal, nor are those who have believed and done righteous deeds and the evildoer;
وما يستوي الاعمى والبصير والذين ءامنوا وعملوا الصلحت ولا المسيءlittle do they remember.
قليلا ما تتذكرونThe Hour is surely coming, no doubt about it,
ان الساعة لءاتية لا ريب فيهاbut most people do not believe.
ولكن اكثر الناس لا يومنونYour Guardian has said: "Call upon Me, I will answer you;
وقال ربكم ادعوني استجب لكمthose who are too arrogant to obey Me will soon enter Jahannam, humiliated."
ان الذين يستكبرون عن عبادتي سيدخلون جهنم داخرينGod is He who made for you the night that you may rest in it, and the day for seeing clearly;
الله الذي جعل لكم اليل لتسكنوا فيه والنهار مبصراGod surely holds a favor toward mankind,
ان الله لذو فضل على الناسbut most people are not grateful.
ولكن اكثر الناس لا يشكرونThat is God, your Guardian,
ذلكم الله ربكمcreator of all things;
خلق كل شىءthere is no deity but Him;
لا اله الا هوhow then are you turned away?
فانى توفكونThus are turned away those who used to stubbornly reject the signs of God.
كذلك يوفك الذين كانوا بايت الله يجحدونGod is He who made for you the earth a stable ground and the sky a structure, who shaped you and made your forms excellent, and provided you with good things;
الله الذي جعل لكم الارض قرارا والسماء بناء وصوركم فاحسن صوركم ورزقكم من الطيبتthat is God, your Guardian;
ذلكم الله ربكمblessed is God, Guardian of all beings.
فتبارك الله رب العلمينHe is the Living;
هو الحىthere is no deity but Him;
لا اله الا هوso call upon Him, devoting the Law exclusively to Him;
فادعوه مخلصين له الدينpraise belongs to God, Guardian of all beings.
الحمد لله رب العلمينSay: "I have been forbidden to obey those you invoke besides God, since the clear proofs have come to me from my Guardian; and I have been commanded to be true to the Guardian of all beings alone."
قل اني نهيت ان اعبد الذين تدعون من دون الله لما جاءني البينت من ربي وامرت ان اسلم لرب العلمينIt is He who created you from dust, then from a drop, then from a clinging form, then brings you out as a child, then lets you reach your full strength, then become old men —
هو الذي خلقكم من تراب ثم من نطفة ثم من علقة ثم يخرجكم طفلا ثم لتبلغوا اشدكم ثم لتكونوا شيوخاand some of you die before — so that you may reach an appointed term, and perhaps you will reason.
ومنكم من يتوفى من قبل ولتبلغوا اجلا مسمى ولعلكم تعقلونIt is He who gives life and causes death;
هو الذي يحي ويميتand when He decrees a matter, He only says to it: "Be,"
فاذا قضى امرا فانما يقول له كنand it is.
فيكونHave you not seen those who argue concerning the signs of God, how they are turned away?
الم تر الى الذين يجدلون في ءايت الله انى يصرفونThose who denied the Scripture and that with which We sent Our messengers will soon know, when the shackles are on their necks, along with the chains,
الذين كذبوا بالكتب وبما ارسلنا به رسلنا فسوف يعلمون اذ الاغلل في اعنقهم والسلسلthey will be dragged through boiling water, then burned in the fire.
يسحبون في الحميم ثم في النار يسجرونThen it will be said to them: "Where are those you used to associate besides God?"
ثم قيل لهم اين ما كنتم تشركون من دون اللهThey will say: "They have strayed from us; in fact, we were not calling upon anything before."
قالوا ضلوا عنا بل لم نكن ندعوا من قبل شياThus does God send astray those who disown.
كذلك يضل الله الكفرينThat is for having rejoiced on the earth without right, and for having been insolent;
ذلكم بما كنتم تفرحون في الارض بغير الحق وبما كنتم تمرحونenter the gates of Jahannam, to abide therein eternally:
ادخلوا ابوب جهنم خلدين فيهاhow wretched is the dwelling of the arrogant!
فبيس مثوى المتكبرينSo be patient: God's promise is indeed truth;
فاصبر ان وعد الله حقwhether We show you some of what We threaten them with, or We take you in death, it is to Us they will be returned.
فاما نرينك بعض الذي نعدهم او نتوفينك فالينا يرجعونWe certainly sent messengers before you; some We have told you about, and some We have not told you about;
ولقد ارسلنا رسلا من قبلك منهم من قصصنا عليك ومنهم من لم نقصص عليكand it is not for any messenger to bring a sign except by God's permission;
وما كان لرسول ان ياتي باية الا باذن اللهand when God's command comes, it is decided in truth, and there the partisans of falsehood are the losers.
فاذا جاء امر الله قضي بالحق وخسر هنالك المبطلونGod is He who made for you the cattle, that you may ride some of them and eat others;
الله الذي جعل لكم الانعم لتركبوا منها ومنها تاكلونand you have in them benefits,
ولكم فيها منفعand that you may satisfy on them a need in your chests,
ولتبلغوا عليها حاجة في صدوركمand on them, as on ships, you are carried.
وعليها وعلى الفلك تحملونHe shows you His signs;
ويريكم ءايتهso which of God's signs do you deny?
فاى ءايت الله تنكرونHave they not traveled through the earth to see how the end was of those before them?
افلم يسيروا في الارض فينظروا كيف كان عقبة الذين من قبلهمThey were more numerous than them and stronger in might and in traces left on the earth; but what they used to earn availed them nothing.
كانوا اكثر منهم واشد قوة وءاثارا في الارض فما اغنى عنهم ما كانوا يكسبونThen, when their messengers brought them clear proofs, they rejoiced in the knowledge they already possessed;
فلما جاءتهم رسلهم بالبينت فرحوا بما عندهم من العلمand that which they used to mock enveloped them.
وحاق بهم ما كانوا به يستهزءونThen, when they saw Our rigor, they said: "We believe in God alone, and we disown what we used to associate with Him."
فلما راوا باسنا قالوا ءامنا بالله وحده وكفرنا بما كنا به مشركينBut their faith did not benefit them once they saw Our rigor —
فلم يك ينفعهم ايمنهم لما راوا باسناsuch is God's norm, already past among His obedient ones;
سنت الله التي قد خلت في عبادهand there those who used to disown were the losers.
وخسر هنالك الكفرون
