Their Skins Will Testify
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Ḥa. Mim.
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم حمA revealed descent from the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent: a Scripture whose signs are made distinct, a flawless recitation for a people who know, bearing good tidings and warning,
تنزيل من الرحمن الرحيم كتب فصلت ءايته قرءانا عربيا لقوم يعلمون بشيرا ونذيراyet most of them turn away, so that they do not hear.
فاعرض اكثرهم فهم لا يسمعونThey say: "Our cores are under coverings against what you call us to, and there is a deafness in our ears, and between us and you a veil. So act — we too are acting [on our side]."
وقالوا قلوبنا في اكنة مما تدعونا اليه وفي ءاذاننا وقر ومن بيننا وبينك حجاب فاعمل اننا عملونSay: "I am only a human like you; it is revealed to me that your deity is a single deity. So stand straight toward Him and ask His forgiveness."
قل انما انا بشر مثلكم يوحى الى انما الهكم اله وحد فاستقيموا اليه واستغفروهWoe to those who associate, who do not give the purifying alms and who disown the last life!
وويل للمشركين الذين لا يوتون الزكوة وهم بالءاخرة هم كفرونThose who have believed and done righteous deeds will have a reward never interrupted.
ان الذين ءامنوا وعملوا الصلحت لهم اجر غير ممنونSay: "Do you then disown the One who created the earth in two days, and set up equals to Him?"
قل اينكم لتكفرون بالذي خلق الارض في يومين وتجعلون له انداداThat is the Guardian of all beings.
ذلك رب العلمينHe placed firmly-set mountains upon it, blessed it, and apportioned its provisions in it, in four equal days, for those who ask.
وجعل فيها روسي من فوقها وبرك فيها وقدر فيها اقوتها في اربعة ايام سواء للسايلينThen He established Himself toward the sky, which was smoke, and said to it and to the earth: "Come, both of you, willingly or unwillingly."
ثم استوى الى السماء وهي دخان فقال لها وللارض ايتيا طوعا او كرهاThey said: "We come obediently."
قالتا اتينا طايعينSo He completed them as seven skies in two days, and inspired to each sky its command.
فقضىهن سبع سموات في يومين واوحى في كل سماء امرهاAnd We adorned the nearest sky with lamps,
وزينا السماء الدنيا بمصبيحand with protection.
وحفظاThat is the measure of the All-Powerful, the All-Knowing.
ذلك تقدير العزيز العليمIf they turn away, say: "I warn you of a thunderbolt like the thunderbolt of the Recidivists [Aad] and the Depleters [Thamud]", when the messengers came to them, from before them and from behind them: "Obey none but God."
فان اعرضوا فقل انذرتكم صعقة مثل صعقة عاد وثمود اذ جاءتهم الرسل من بين ايديهم ومن خلفهم الا تعبدوا الا اللهThey said: "Had our Guardian willed, He would have sent down Agents. So we disown what you have been sent with."
قالوا لو شاء ربنا لانزل مليكة فانا بما ارسلتم به كفرونAs for the Recidivists [Aad], they were arrogant on the earth without right, and said: "Who is stronger than us in might?"
فاما عاد فاستكبروا في الارض بغير الحق وقالوا من اشد منا قوةDid they not see that God, who created them, is stronger than them in might?
اولم يروا ان الله الذي خلقهم هو اشد منهم قوةAnd they used to stubbornly reject Our signs.
وكانوا بايتنا يجحدونSo We sent upon them an icy wind, during ill-omened days, to make them taste the punishment of disgrace in the present life;
فارسلنا عليهم ريحا صرصرا في ايام نحسات لنذيقهم عذاب الخزي في الحيوة الدنياand the punishment of the last life is more disgraceful still, and they will not be helped.
ولعذاب الءاخرة اخزى وهم لا ينصرونAs for the Depleters [Thamud], We guided them, but they preferred blindness over guidance, so the thunderbolt of the humiliating punishment seized them for what they used to earn.
واما ثمود فهدينهم فاستحبوا العمى على الهدى فاخذتهم صعقة العذاب الهون بما كانوا يكسبونAnd We saved those who believed and guarded themselves.
ونجينا الذين ءامنوا وكانوا يتقونThe day We gather the enemies of God toward the Fire, they will be arranged in ranks,
ويوم يحشر اعداء الله الى النار فهم يوزعونuntil, when they reach it, their hearing, their sights, and their skins will testify against them about what they used to do.
حتى اذا ما جاءوها شهد عليهم سمعهم وابصرهم وجلودهم بما كانوا يعملونThey will say to their skins: "Why did you testify against us?"
وقالوا لجلودهم لم شهدتم عليناThey will say: "God, who makes everything speak, made us speak. It is He who created you the first time, and to Him you are returned."
قالوا انطقنا الله الذي انطق كل شىء وهو خلقكم اول مرة واليه ترجعونYou were not hiding [in thinking] that your hearing, your sights, and your skins would not testify against you;
وما كنتم تستترون ان يشهد عليكم سمعكم ولا ابصركم ولا جلودكمbut you thought that God did not know much of what you were doing.
ولكن ظننتم ان الله لا يعلم كثيرا مما تعملونThat is the thought you had of your Guardian; it has ruined you, and you have become among the losers.
وذلكم ظنكم الذي ظننتم بربكم اردىكم فاصبحتم من الخسرينIf they endure, the Fire is their dwelling;
فان يصبروا فالنار مثوى لهمand if they ask to be accepted again, they will not be among those accepted again.
وان يستعتبوا فما هم من المعتبينAnd We assigned to them companions who made attractive to them what was before them and what was behind them,
وقيضنا لهم قرناء فزينوا لهم ما بين ايديهم وما خلفهمand the word proved true against them, among communities of the Occulted and humans that had already passed away before them;
وحق عليهم القول في امم قد خلت من قبلهم من الجن والانسthey were indeed losers.
انهم كانوا خسرينThose who disown said: "Do not listen to this recitation, and drown it out, so that you may prevail."
وقال الذين كفروا لا تسمعوا لهذا القرءان والغوا فيه لعلكم تغلبونWe will surely make those who disown taste a severe punishment, and We will surely repay them the worst of what they used to do.
فلنذيقن الذين كفروا عذابا شديدا ولنجزينهم اسوا الذي كانوا يعملونThat is the recompense of the enemies of God: the Fire;
ذلك جزاء اعداء الله النارthey have therein the home of eternity,
لهم فيها دار الخلدa recompense for their stubbornly rejecting Our signs.
جزاء بما كانوا بايتنا يجحدونThose who disown will say: "Our Guardian, show us those who misled us among the Occulted and humans, that we may put them beneath our feet, so that they may be among the lowest."
وقال الذين كفروا ربنا ارنا الذين اضلانا من الجن والانس نجعلهما تحت اقدامنا ليكونا من الاسفلينThose who say: "Our Guardian is God," then stand straight — the Agents descend upon them: "Do not fear and do not grieve; rejoice in the Garden that you were promised."
ان الذين قالوا ربنا الله ثم استقموا تتنزل عليهم المليكة الا تخافوا ولا تحزنوا وابشروا بالجنة التي كنتم توعدونWe are your protectors in the present life and in the last life;
نحن اولياوكم في الحيوة الدنيا وفي الءاخرةand you will have therein whatever your Selves desire, and you will have therein whatever you ask for, as a welcome from One Most-Forgiving, Benevolent.
ولكم فيها ما تشتهي انفسكم ولكم فيها ما تدعون نزلا من غفور رحيمAnd who speaks better than one who calls to God, does what is right, and says: "I am indeed among those true to God alone"?
ومن احسن قولا ممن دعا الى الله وعمل صلحا وقال انني من المسلمينThe good deed and the bad deed are not equal.
ولا تستوي الحسنة ولا السييةRepel with what is better; then the one between you and whom there was enmity will be like a warm friend.
ادفع بالتي هي احسن فاذا الذي بينك وبينه عدوة كانه ولي حميمBut this is received only by those who endure,
وما يلقىها الا الذين صبرواand it is received only by one who has an immense share.
وما يلقىها الا ذو حظ عظيمAnd if an incitement from the Diverter incites you [to evil], seek refuge in God;
واما ينزغنك من الشيطن نزغ فاستعذ باللهit is indeed He, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
انه هو السميع العليمAnd among His signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon.
ومن ءايته اليل والنهار والشمس والقمرDo not prostrate to the sun or to the moon,
لا تسجدوا للشمس ولا للقمرbut prostrate to God, who created them, if it is Him that you obey.
واسجدوا لله الذي خلقهن ان كنتم اياه تعبدونIf they are arrogant, then those who are with your Guardian glorify Him night and day, without growing weary.
فان استكبروا فالذين عند ربك يسبحون له باليل والنهار وهم لا يسمونAnd among His signs: you see the earth humble; then, when We send down water upon it, it stirs and swells.
ومن ءايته انك ترى الارض خشعة فاذا انزلنا عليها الماء اهتزت وربتHe who gave it life is surely the One who gives life to the dead;
ان الذي احياها لمحي الموتىHe is indeed capable of all things.
انه على كل شىء قديرThose who deviate concerning Our signs are not hidden from Us.
ان الذين يلحدون في ءايتنا لا يخفون عليناIs one who is thrown into the Fire better, or one who comes secure on the Day of Appearance?
افمن يلقى في النار خير ام من ياتي ءامنا يوم القيمةDo what you wish,
اعملوا ما شيتمHe indeed sees perfectly what you do.
انه بما تعملون بصيرThose who disown the Reminder when it has come to them [will bear the consequences]; and it is indeed an impregnable Scripture, which falsehood cannot reach from before it or from behind it,
ان الذين كفروا بالذكر لما جاءهم وانه لكتب عزيز لا ياتيه البطل من بين يديه ولا من خلفهa revealed descent from One Wise, Praiseworthy.
تنزيل من حكيم حميدNothing is said to you except what was already said to the messengers before you;
ما يقال لك الا ما قد قيل للرسل من قبلكyour Guardian is surely possessor of forgiveness and possessor of painful sanction.
ان ربك لذو مغفرة وذو عقاب اليمHad We made it a confused recitation, they would have said: "Why were its signs not made distinct?"
ولو جعلنه قرءانا اعجميا لقالوا لولا فصلت ءايتهConfused and flawless at once?
ءاعجمي وعربيSay: "It is, for those who believe, guidance and healing;
قل هو للذين ءامنوا هدى وشفاءand those who do not believe have a deafness in their ears, and it is upon them a blindness;
والذين لا يومنون في ءاذانهم وقر وهو عليهم عمىthose are called from a distant place."
اوليك ينادون من مكان بعيدWe have indeed given Moussa the Scripture, and there was divergence about it;
ولقد ءاتينا موسى الكتب فاختلف فيهand had it not been for a word that preceded from your Guardian, it would already have been settled between them;
ولولا كلمة سبقت من ربك لقضي بينهمand they are surely, about it, in a troubling doubt.
وانهم لفي شك منه مريبWhoever does what is right, it is for his own Self;
من عمل صلحا فلنفسهand whoever does wrong, it is against his own Self;
ومن اساء فعليهاand your Guardian is not unjust to the constrained [under compulsion].
وما ربك بظلم للعبيدTo Him is referred the knowledge of the Hour;
اليه يرد علم الساعةno fruit comes out of its sheath, nor does any female conceive or give birth, except with His knowledge;
وما تخرج من ثمرت من اكمامها وما تحمل من انثى ولا تضع الا بعلمهand the day He calls out to them: "Where are My partners?", they will say: "We inform You that there is not among us any witness."
ويوم يناديهم اين شركاءي قالوا ءاذنك ما منا من شهيدWhat they used to invoke before will stray away from them, and they will know that they have no escape.
وضل عنهم ما كانوا يدعون من قبل وظنوا ما لهم من محيصThe human being does not tire of calling for good;
لا يسم الانسن من دعاء الخيرbut if evil touches him, he becomes hopeless, disheartened.
وان مسه الشر فيوس قنوطAnd if We let him taste benevolence from Us after hardship that touched him, he will surely say: "This is mine by right, and I do not think the Hour is coming; and if I am returned to my Guardian, I will indeed have the best with Him."
ولين اذقنه رحمة منا من بعد ضراء مسته ليقولن هذا لي وما اظن الساعة قايمة ولين رجعت الى ربي ان لي عنده للحسنىWe will surely inform those who disown of what they did, and We will surely make them taste a harsh punishment.
فلننبين الذين كفروا بما عملوا ولنذيقنهم من عذاب غليظAnd when We favor the human being with blessings, he turns away and withdraws to his side;
واذا انعمنا على الانسن اعرض ونا بجانبهand when evil touches him, he is full of endless calling.
واذا مسه الشر فذو دعاء عريضSay: "Have you considered? If this is from God and you disown it, who is more astray than one who is in a deep rupture?"
قل ارءيتم ان كان من عند الله ثم كفرتم به من اضل ممن هو في شقاق بعيدWe will show them Our signs in the horizons and in themselves, until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth.
سنريهم ءايتنا في الءافاق وفي انفسهم حتى يتبين لهم انه الحقIs it not enough that your Guardian is witness over all things?
اولم يكف بربك انه على كل شىء شهيدIndeed, they are in doubt about the meeting with their Guardian;
الا انهم في مرية من لقاء ربهمindeed, He encompasses all things.
الا انه بكل شىء محيط
