The Recitation Made Easy
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has split.
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم اقتربت الساعة وانشق القمرAnd if they see a sign, they turn away and say: 'A persistent illusion.'
وان يروا ءاية يعرضوا ويقولوا سحر مستمرThey denied, and followed their emotions.
وكذبوا واتبعوا اهواءهمYet every matter finds its settled term.
وكل امر مستقرThere had indeed come to them, among the pieces of information, that which should deter [them],
ولقد جاءهم من الانباء ما فيه مزدجرa consummate wisdom —
حكمة بلغةbut of what avail are warnings [to them]?
فما تغن النذرSo turn away from them.
فتول عنهمThe Day the Caller calls to something unheard-of, their eyes humble, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading out, rushing toward the Caller,
يوم يدع الداع الى شىء نكر خشعا ابصرهم يخرجون من الاجداث كانهم جراد منتشر مهطعين الى الداعThose who disown will say: 'This is a difficult day.'
يقول الكفرون هذا يوم عسرBefore them, the people of Nuh denied: they denied Our obedient one and said, 'He is deranged,' and he was violently repelled.
كذبت قبلهم قوم نوح فكذبوا عبدنا وقالوا مجنون وازدجرSo he called upon his Guardian: 'I am overpowered, so grant [me] help.'
فدعا ربه اني مغلوب فانتصرSo We opened the gates of heaven with pouring water,
ففتحنا ابوب السماء بماء منهمرand caused the earth to burst forth in springs, so the waters met according to a matter already decreed.
وفجرنا الارض عيونا فالتقى الماء على امر قد قدرAnd We carried him upon a vessel of planks and nails,
وحملنه على ذات الوح ودسرIt sailed under Our eyes, a recompense for the one who had been disowned.
تجري باعيننا جزاء لمن كان كفرWe have indeed left it as a sign: is there then anyone to remember?
ولقد تركنها ءاية فهل من مدكرSo how were My punishment and My warnings?
فكيف كان عذابي ونذرWe have indeed made the Recitation easy for remembrance: is there then anyone to remember?
ولقد يسرنا القرءان للذكر فهل من مدكرThe Recidivists [Aad] denied. So how were My punishment and My warnings?
كذبت عاد فكيف كان عذابي ونذرWe sent upon them an icy wind, on a day of persistent misfortune, tearing people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees.
انا ارسلنا عليهم ريحا صرصرا في يوم نحس مستمر تنزع الناس كانهم اعجاز نخل منقعرSo how were My punishment and My warnings?
فكيف كان عذابي ونذرWe have indeed made the Recitation easy for remembrance: is there then anyone to remember?
ولقد يسرنا القرءان للذكر فهل من مدكرthe Depleters [Thamud] denied the warnings.
كذبت ثمود بالنذرThey said: 'Shall we follow a single human from among us? We would then be in error and madness. Has the Reminder been cast upon him alone, among us? Rather, he is a boastful liar.'
فقالوا ابشرا منا وحدا نتبعه انا اذا لفي ضلل وسعر اءلقي الذكر عليه من بيننا بل هو كذاب اشرThey will know tomorrow who is the boastful liar.
سيعلمون غدا من الكذاب الاشرWe are indeed sending the she-camel as a trial for them, so watch them and be patient.
انا مرسلوا الناقة فتنة لهم فارتقبهم واصطبرAnd inform them that the water is to be shared between them,
ونبيهم ان الماء قسمة بينهمeach turn of drinking attended in its time.
كل شرب محتضرSo they called their companion, and he seized her and hamstrung her.
فنادوا صاحبهم فتعاطى فعقرSo how were My punishment and My warnings?
فكيف كان عذابي ونذرWe sent upon them a single cry, and they became like the dry twigs of a pen-builder.
انا ارسلنا عليهم صيحة وحدة فكانوا كهشيم المحتظرWe have indeed made the Recitation easy for remembrance: is there then anyone to remember?
ولقد يسرنا القرءان للذكر فهل من مدكرThe people of Lut denied the warnings.
كذبت قوم لوط بالنذرWe sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lut, whom We saved before dawn,
انا ارسلنا عليهم حاصبا الا ءال لوط نجينهم بسحرa blessing from Us.
نعمة من عندناThus do We recompense whoever is grateful.
كذلك نجزي من شكرHe had indeed warned them of Our Strike, but they doubted the warnings.
ولقد انذرهم بطشتنا فتماروا بالنذرThey sought to turn him away from his guests, so We blinded their eyes: 'Taste, then, My punishment and My warnings.'
ولقد رودوه عن ضيفه فطمسنا اعينهم فذوقوا عذابي ونذرA settled punishment indeed overtook them at early morning,
ولقد صبحهم بكرة عذاب مستقر'Taste, then, My punishment and My warnings.'
فذوقوا عذابي ونذرWe have indeed made the Recitation easy for remembrance: is there then anyone to remember?
ولقد يسرنا القرءان للذكر فهل من مدكرThe warnings had indeed come to Fir'awn's clan.
ولقد جاء ءال فرعون النذرThey denied all Our signs, so We seized them with the seizing of an All-Powerful, Capable One.
كذبوا بايتنا كلها فاخذنهم اخذ عزيز مقتدرAre those of you who disown better than those, or do you have an exemption in the Formularies?
اكفاركم خير من اوليكم ام لكم براءة في الزبرOr do they say: 'We are a united group, [we will be] helped'?
ام يقولون نحن جميع منتصرThe group will be defeated, and they will turn their backs [in flight].
سيهزم الجمع ويولون الدبرRather, the Hour is their appointed time,
بل الساعة موعدهمand the Hour is more terrible and more bitter.
والساعة ادهى وامرThe severed are indeed in error and madness, the Day they are dragged into the Fire upon their faces: 'Taste the touch of Saqar.'
ان المجرمين في ضلل وسعر يوم يسحبون في النار على وجوههم ذوقوا مس سقرWe have indeed created every thing according to a measure.
انا كل شىء خلقنه بقدرAnd Our command is but one, like the blink of an eye.
وما امرنا الا وحدة كلمح بالبصرWe have indeed annihilated your likes: is there then anyone to remember?
ولقد اهلكنا اشياعكم فهل من مدكرAnd everything they did is [recorded] in the Formularies.
وكل شىء فعلوه في الزبرAnd everything, small or great, is inscribed.
وكل صغير وكبير مستطرThose who guard themselves are indeed in gardens and by a river, in a seat of truth, near a Sovereign, Capable.
ان المتقين في جنت ونهر في مقعد صدق عند مليك مقتدر
