Sourate Al-Mulk (67) unvowelled

In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Benevolent. Blessed is He in whose hand is the dominion, and He is capable of all things,i 1

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم تبرك الذي بيده الملك وهو على كل شىء قدير

who created death and life to test you: which of you does best in deeds. 2

الذي خلق الموت والحيوة ليبلوكم ايكم احسن عملا

And He is the All-Powerful, the Forgiving.i 2

وهو العزيز الغفور

He who created seven heavens in layers. 3

الذي خلق سبع سموت طباقا

You do not see in the creation of the Most Compassionate any disharmony. 3

ما ترى في خلق الرحمن من تفوت

Return your gaze: do you see any flaw? 3

فارجع البصر هل ترى من فطور

Then return your gaze twice more: your gaze will return to you humbled and exhausted. 4

ثم ارجع البصر كرتين ينقلب اليك البصر خاسيا وهو حسير

We have indeed adorned the nearest heaven with lamps, and made them missiles against the Diverters, and We have prepared for them the punishment of the Blaze.i 5

ولقد زينا السماء الدنيا بمصبيح وجعلنها رجوما للشيطين واعتدنا لهم عذاب السعير

And for those who denied [the truth about] their Guardian is the punishment of Jahannam,i 6

وللذين كفروا بربهم عذاب جهنم

and what a wretched destination! 6

وبيس المصير

When they are thrown into it, they will hear it roaring as it boils, almost bursting with fury. 8

اذا القوا فيها سمعوا لها شهيقا وهي تفور تكاد تميز من الغيظ

Every time a group is thrown into it, its keepers will ask them: 'Did no warner come to you?' 8

كلما القي فيها فوج سالهم خزنتها الم ياتكم نذير

They will say: 'Yes, a warner did come to us, but we denied him and said: God has not sent down anything, you are only in great error.' 9

قالوا بلى قد جاءنا نذير فكذبنا وقلنا ما نزل الله من شىء ان انتم الا في ضلل كبير

And they will say: 'If we had listened or reasoned, we would not be among the companions of the Blaze.' 10

وقالوا لو كنا نسمع او نعقل ما كنا في اصحب السعير

So they will acknowledge their wrong: 11

فاعترفوا بذنبهم

so away with the companions of the Blaze! 11

فسحقا لاصحب السعير

Those who fear their Guardian without seeing Him will have forgiveness and a great reward.i 12

ان الذين يخشون ربهم بالغيب لهم مغفرة واجر كبير

Whether you keep your speech secret or proclaim it, 13

واسروا قولكم او اجهروا به

He is Knower of what is in the breasts. 13

انه عليم بذات الصدور

Would He who created not know, while He is the Subtle, the All-Aware? 14

الا يعلم من خلق وهو اللطيف الخبير

It is He who made the earth manageable for you; so walk through its expanses and eat from His provision. 15

هو الذي جعل لكم الارض ذلولا فامشوا في مناكبها وكلوا من رزقه

And to Him is the Awakening.i 15

واليه النشور

Do you feel secure that He who is in the heaven will not cause the earth to swallow you, whereupon it sways? 16

ءامنتم من في السماء ان يخسف بكم الارض فاذا هي تمور

Or do you feel secure that He who is in the heaven will not send against you a violent storm of stones? 17

ام امنتم من في السماء ان يرسل عليكم حاصبا

Then you will know how My warning was. 17

فستعلمون كيف نذير

Those before them certainly denied, 18

ولقد كذب الذين من قبلهم

and how was My rejection! 18

فكيف كان نكير

Have they not observed the birds above them, spreading and folding their wings? 19

اولم يروا الى الطير فوقهم صفت ويقبضن

Nothing holds them up except the Most Compassionate. 19

ما يمسكهن الا الرحمن

He is, of all things, All-Seeing. 19

انه بكل شىء بصير

Or who is it that would be an army for you and help you, besides the Most Compassionate? 20

امن هذا الذي هو جند لكم ينصركم من دون الرحمن

Those who deny are only in delusion.i 20

ان الكفرون الا في غرور

Or who is it that would provide for you, if He withheld His provision? 21

امن هذا الذي يرزقكم ان امسك رزقه

Yet they persist in insolence and aversion. 21

بل لجوا في عتو ونفور

Is he who walks fallen on his face better guided, or he who walks upright on a straight path? 22

افمن يمشي مكبا على وجهه اهدى امن يمشي سويا على صرط مستقيم

Say: 'It is He who brought you into being and gave you hearing, sight, and inner awareness.' 23

قل هو الذي انشاكم وجعل لكم السمع والابصر والافدة

Little do you give thanks. 23

قليلا ما تشكرون

Say: 'It is He who scattered you upon the earth, and to Him you will be gathered.' 24

قل هو الذي ذراكم في الارض واليه تحشرون

And they say: 'When will this promise be, if you are truthful?' 25

ويقولون متى هذا الوعد ان كنتم صدقين

Say: 'The knowledge is only with God; I am only a clear warner.' 26

قل انما العلم عند الله وانما انا نذير مبين

Then, when they see it near, the faces of those who denied will be grieved, and it will be said: 'This is what you used to call for.'i 27

فلما راوه زلفة سيت وجوه الذين كفروا وقيل هذا الذي كنتم به تدعون

Say: 'Consider: whether God destroys me and those with me, or has benevolence on us, who will shield those who deny from a painful punishment?' 28

قل ارءيتم ان اهلكني الله ومن معي او رحمنا فمن يجير الكفرين من عذاب اليم

Say: 'He is the Most Compassionate; we believe in Him and upon Him we place our trust.' 29

قل هو الرحمن ءامنا به وعليه توكلنا

You will soon know who is in manifest error. 29

فستعلمون من هو في ضلل مبين

Say: 'Consider: if your water were to sink into the ground, who then would bring you clear flowing water?' 30

قل ارءيتم ان اصبح ماوكم غورا فمن ياتيكم بماء معين
