The Original Nature
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Alif. Lam. Mim.
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم المThe Romans were victorious, in the nearest land; but after their victory, they will be defeated, within a few years —
غلبت الروم في ادنى الارض وهم من بعد غلبهم سيغلبون في بضع سنينto God belongs the command, before and after.
لله الامر من قبل ومن بعدAnd on that day the believers will rejoice in God's help —
ويوميذ يفرح المومنون بنصر اللهHe helps whom He wills;
ينصر من يشاءand He is the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.
وهو العزيز الرحيم[It is] God's promise: God does not fail His promise,
وعد الله لا يخلف الله وعدهbut most people do not know.
ولكن اكثر الناس لا يعلمونThey know only an outward aspect of the present life, while of the last life they are heedless.
يعلمون ظهرا من الحيوة الدنيا وهم عن الءاخرة هم غفلونHave they not reflected within themselves?
اولم يتفكروا في انفسهمGod did not create the heavens and the earth, and what is between them, except in truth and for an appointed term;
ما خلق الله السموت والارض وما بينهما الا بالحق واجل مسمىand surely many people disown the meeting with their Guardian.
وان كثيرا من الناس بلقاي ربهم لكفرونHave they not traveled through the earth and looked at how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than them, and they tilled the earth
اولم يسيروا في الارض فينظروا كيف كان عقبة الذين من قبلهم كانوا اشد منهم قوة واثاروا الارضand inhabited it more than they have inhabited it; and their messengers came to them with clear proofs,
وعمروها اكثر مما عمروها وجاءتهم رسلهم بالبينتand it was not God who wronged them,
فما كان الله ليظلمهمbut they used to wrong themselves.
ولكن كانوا انفسهم يظلمونThen the end of those who did evil was the worst, for they denied the signs of God and used to mock them.
ثم كان عقبة الذين اسوا السواى ان كذبوا بايت الله وكانوا بها يستهزءونGod originates the creation, then remakes it, then to Him you will be returned.
الله يبدوا الخلق ثم يعيده ثم اليه ترجعونAnd on the day the Hour rises, the severed will be plunged into despair, and they will have, among their associates, no intercessors; and even their own associates, they will disown.
ويوم تقوم الساعة يبلس المجرمون ولم يكن لهم من شركايهم شفعوا وكانوا بشركايهم كفرينAnd on the day the Hour rises, that day they will be separated [into groups]:
ويوم تقوم الساعة يوميذ يتفرقونas for those who believed and did righteous deeds, they will be delighted in a garden;
فاما الذين ءامنوا وعملوا الصلحت فهم في روضة يحبرونand as for those who disowned and denied Our signs and the meeting of the last life, those will be brought forward into the punishment.
واما الذين كفروا وكذبوا بايتنا ولقاي الءاخرة فاوليك في العذاب محضرونSo glory be to God when you enter the evening and when you enter the morning!
فسبحن الله حين تمسون وحين تصبحونAnd to Him is praise in the heavens and the earth, and at the day's decline, and when you enter midday.
وله الحمد في السموت والارض وعشيا وحين تظهرونHe brings the living out of the dead, and brings the dead out of the living, and gives life to the earth after its death;
يخرج الحى من الميت ويخرج الميت من الحى ويحي الارض بعد موتهاand thus will you be brought forth [from your graves].
وكذلك تخرجونAnd among His signs is that He created you from dust; then, behold, you are humans deploying [on the earth].
ومن ءايته ان خلقكم من تراب ثم اذا انتم بشر تنتشرونAnd among His signs is that He created for you, from yourselves, spouses, so that you might find rest in them, and He placed between you affection and benevolence;
ومن ءايته ان خلق لكم من انفسكم ازوجا لتسكنوا اليها وجعل بينكم مودة ورحمةthere are surely in that signs for a people who reflect.
ان في ذلك لءايت لقوم يتفكرونAnd among His signs are the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the diversity of your tongues and your colors;
ومن ءايته خلق السموت والارض واختلف السنتكم والونكمthere are surely in that signs for those who know.
ان في ذلك لءايت للعلمينAnd among His signs are your sleep by night and by day, and your seeking of His favor;
ومن ءايته منامكم باليل والنهار وابتغاوكم من فضلهthere are surely in that signs for a people who listen.
ان في ذلك لءايت لقوم يسمعونAnd among His signs is that He shows you the lightning, arousing fear and hope, and sends down water from the sky by which He gives life to the earth after its death;
ومن ءايته يريكم البرق خوفا وطمعا وينزل من السماء ماء فيحي به الارض بعد موتهاthere are surely in that signs for a people who reason.
ان في ذلك لءايت لقوم يعقلونAnd among His signs is that the sky and the earth stand by His command;
ومن ءايته ان تقوم السماء والارض بامرهthen, when He calls you with a single call from the earth, behold, you will come forth.
ثم اذا دعاكم دعوة من الارض اذا انتم تخرجونAnd to Him belongs whoever is in the heavens and the earth;
وله من في السموت والارضall are devoted to Him.
كل له قنتونAnd it is He who originates the creation, then remakes it — a matter yet easier for Him;
وهو الذي يبدوا الخلق ثم يعيده وهو اهون عليهand to Him belongs the highest example, in the heavens and the earth;
وله المثل الاعلى في السموت والارضand He is the All-Powerful, the Wise.
وهو العزيز الحكيمHe proposes to you an example drawn from yourselves: do you have, among those bound to you by pledge, any partners in what We have provided you, such that you would be equal in that, fearing them as you fear one another?
ضرب لكم مثلا من انفسكم هل لكم من ما ملكت ايمنكم من شركاء في ما رزقنكم فانتم فيه سواء تخافونهم كخيفتكم انفسكمThus do We detail the signs for a people who reason.
كذلك نفصل الءايت لقوم يعقلونThose who did wrong rather followed their emotions, without knowledge.
بل اتبع الذين ظلموا اهواءهم بغير علمSo who will guide the one God has left astray?
فمن يهدي من اضل اللهAnd they will have no helpers.
وما لهم من نصرينSet your direction toward the Law, wholly turned toward God — the original nature God gave mankind, as He originated them. There is no changing God's creation: that is the upright Law, but most people do not know — ever turning back to Him, guard yourselves toward Him, maintain the Contact, and do not be among those who associate partners with God,
فاقم وجهك للدين حنيفا فطرت الله التي فطر الناس عليها لا تبديل لخلق الله ذلك الدين القيم ولكن اكثر الناس لا يعلمون منيبين اليه واتقوه واقيموا الصلوة ولا تكونوا من المشركين من الذين فرقوا دينهم وكانوا شيعاamong those who split up their Law and became factions, each party rejoicing in what it has.
كل حزب بما لديهم فرحونAnd when harm touches people, they call upon their Guardian, turning back to Him;
واذا مس الناس ضر دعوا ربهم منيبين اليهthen when He lets them taste a benevolence from Him, behold, a party among them associates [partners] with their Guardian,
ثم اذا اذاقهم منه رحمة اذا فريق منهم بربهم يشركونso as to disown what We have given them.
ليكفروا بما ءاتينهمEnjoy yourselves, then: soon you will know.
فتمتعوا فسوف تعلمونOr have We sent down upon them an authority which speaks in favor of what they associate with Him?
ام انزلنا عليهم سلطنا فهو يتكلم بما كانوا به يشركونAnd when We let people taste a benevolence, they rejoice in it;
واذا اذقنا الناس رحمة فرحوا بهاbut if evil befalls them for what their own hands have prepared, behold, they lose heart.
وان تصبهم سيية بما قدمت ايديهم اذا هم يقنطونHave they not seen that God extends provision to whom He wills, and measures it?
اولم يروا ان الله يبسط الرزق لمن يشاء ويقدرThere are surely in that signs for a people who believe.
ان في ذلك لءايت لقوم يومنونSo give the close relative his due, and the destitute, and the stranded traveler;
فات ذا القربى حقه والمسكين وابن السبيلthat is better for those who seek the direction of God,
ذلك خير للذين يريدون وجه اللهand those are the ones who succeed.
واوليك هم المفلحونAnd whatever you give as a loan with guaranteed principal, that it may increase through the goods of people, does not increase with God;
وما ءاتيتم من ربا ليربوا في امول الناس فلا يربوا عند اللهbut whatever you give in purifying alms, seeking the direction of God — it is they whose reward is multiplied.
وما ءاتيتم من زكوة تريدون وجه الله فاوليك هم المضعفونGod is He who created you, then provided for you, then will cause you to die, then will bring you to life.
الله الذي خلقكم ثم رزقكم ثم يميتكم ثم يحييكمIs there among your associates one who does any of that?
هل من شركايكم من يفعل من ذلكم من شىءGlory be to Him, He is far above what they associate with Him.
سبحنه وتعلى عما يشركونCorruption has appeared on land and sea because of what people's hands have earned, so that He may let them taste some of what they have done, that they might return.
ظهر الفساد في البر والبحر بما كسبت ايدي الناس ليذيقهم بعض الذي عملوا لعلهم يرجعونSay, "Travel through the earth and look at what was the end of those before [you]."
قل سيروا في الارض فانظروا كيف كان عقبة الذين من قبلMost of them were associators.
كان اكثرهم مشركينSo set your direction toward the upright Law, before there comes, from God, a day that cannot be turned back:
فاقم وجهك للدين القيم من قبل ان ياتي يوم لا مرد له من اللهthat day, they will be split apart.
يوميذ يصدعونWhoever disowns, his disowning falls back upon him;
من كفر فعليه كفرهand whoever does righteousness — those prepare a place for themselves — so that He may recompense, out of His favor, those who believed and did righteous deeds.
ومن عمل صلحا فلانفسهم يمهدون ليجزي الذين ءامنوا وعملوا الصلحت من فضلهHe indeed does not love those who disown.
انه لا يحب الكفرينAnd among His signs is that He sends the winds as bearers of good news, so as to let you taste of His benevolence, and so that the ships may sail by His command, and so that you may seek His favor, and that you may be grateful.
ومن ءايته ان يرسل الرياح مبشرت وليذيقكم من رحمته ولتجري الفلك بامره ولتبتغوا من فضله ولعلكم تشكرونAnd We certainly sent, before you, messengers to their people; they came to them with clear proofs, and We took vengeance upon those who cut themselves off;
ولقد ارسلنا من قبلك رسلا الى قومهم فجاءوهم بالبينت فانتقمنا من الذين اجرمواand it was incumbent upon Us to help the believers.
وكان حقا علينا نصر المومنينGod is He who sends the winds; they stir up clouds, which He spreads in the sky as He wills, and breaks into fragments; then you see the shower come forth from their midst.
الله الذي يرسل الريح فتثير سحابا فيبسطه في السماء كيف يشاء ويجعله كسفا فترى الودق يخرج من خللهThen when He causes it to reach whom He wills of His obedient ones, behold, they exult,
فاذا اصاب به من يشاء من عباده اذا هم يستبشرونeven though before that, before it was sent down upon them, they were in despair.
وان كانوا من قبل ان ينزل عليهم من قبله لمبلسينSo look at the trace of God's benevolence: how He gives life to the earth after its death;
فانظر الى ءاثر رحمت الله كيف يحي الارض بعد موتهاthat is He who will surely give life to the dead,
ان ذلك لمحي الموتىand He is capable of all things.
وهو على كل شىء قديرAnd if We sent a wind, and they saw [what has grown] turn yellow, they would persist, after that, in disowning.
ولين ارسلنا ريحا فراوه مصفرا لظلوا من بعده يكفرونYou indeed cannot make the dead hear, nor make the deaf hear the call, when they turn their backs, retreating.
فانك لا تسمع الموتى ولا تسمع الصم الدعاء اذا ولوا مدبرينAnd you are not the one who guides the blind out of their error;
وما انت بهد العمي عن ضللتهمyou can make hear only those who believe in Our signs, and who are true to God alone.
ان تسمع الا من يومن بايتنا فهم مسلمونGod is He who created you from weakness, then made, after weakness, strength, then made, after strength, weakness and old age;
الله الذي خلقكم من ضعف ثم جعل من بعد ضعف قوة ثم جعل من بعد قوة ضعفا وشيبةHe creates what He wills,
يخلق ما يشاءand He is the All-Knowing, the Able.
وهو العليم القديرAnd on the day the Hour rises, the severed will swear they remained but an hour;
ويوم تقوم الساعة يقسم المجرمون ما لبثوا غير ساعةthus were they turned away [from the truth].
كذلك كانوا يوفكونAnd those who were given knowledge and faith will say, "You have certainly remained, under God's Code, until the Day of Raising;
وقال الذين اوتوا العلم والايمن لقد لبثتم في كتب الله الى يوم البعثso this is the Day of Raising — but you did not know."
فهذا يوم البعث ولكنكم كنتم لا تعلمونThat day, the excuse of the wrongdoers will not benefit them, nor will they be asked to make amends.
فيوميذ لا ينفع الذين ظلموا معذرتهم ولا هم يستعتبونAnd We have certainly set forth for people, in this Recitation, every kind of example;
ولقد ضربنا للناس في هذا القرءان من كل مثلand if you bring them a sign, those who disown will certainly say, "You are nothing but workers of falsehood."
ولين جيتهم باية ليقولن الذين كفروا ان انتم الا مبطلونThus does God seal the cores of those who do not know.
كذلك يطبع الله على قلوب الذين لا يعلمونSo be patient:
فاصبرGod's promise is indeed truth;
ان وعد الله حقand do not let those who lack certainty shake you.
ولا يستخفنك الذين لا يوقنون
