My Guardian Is God
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent.
Ḥa. Mim.
حم
The descent of the Scripture comes from God, the All-Powerful, the All-Knowing, He who forgives offense and accepts repentance, severe in sanction, possessor of largesse,
تنزيل الكتب من الله العزيز العليم غافر الذنب وقابل التوب شديد العقاب ذي الطول
there is no deity but Him;
لا اله الا هو
to Him is the destination.
اليه المصير
Only those who disown argue concerning the signs of God;
ما يجدل في ءايت الله الا الذين كفروا
so let not their movements through the lands delude you.
فلا يغررك تقلبهم في البلد
Before them, the people of Nuh denied, and the parties after them,
كذبت قبلهم قوم نوح والاحزاب من بعدهم
and every community was minded to seize its messenger,
وهمت كل امة برسولهم لياخذوه
and they argued by falsehood to refute the truth with it — so I seized them:
وجدلوا بالبطل ليدحضوا به الحق فاخذتهم
and what then was My sanction?
فكيف كان عقاب
Thus did the word of your Guardian prove true against those who disown: they are the companions of the Fire.
وكذلك حقت كلمت ربك على الذين كفروا انهم اصحب النار
Those who bear the Edifice and those around it glorify their Guardian with praise, believe in Him, and ask forgiveness for those who believe:
الذين يحملون العرش ومن حوله يسبحون بحمد ربهم ويومنون به ويستغفرون للذين ءامنوا
"Our Guardian, You embrace all things in benevolence and knowledge; so forgive those who turn back and follow Your way, and protect them from the punishment of the Blaze;
ربنا وسعت كل شىء رحمة وعلما فاغفر للذين تابوا واتبعوا سبيلك وقهم عذاب الجحيم
Our Guardian, admit them into the Gardens of permanence that You have promised them, along with whoever was sound among their fathers, their spouses, and their descendants;
ربنا وادخلهم جنت عدن التي وعدتهم ومن صلح من ءابايهم وازوجهم وذريتهم
You, indeed, are the All-Powerful, the Wise.
انك انت العزيز الحكيم
And protect them from evil deeds;
وقهم السيات
and whoever You protect from evil deeds that day, You have shown him benevolence,
ومن تق السيات يوميذ فقد رحمته
and that is the immense triumph."
وذلك هو الفوز العظيم
Those who disown will be called out to: "God's loathing is surely greater than your own loathing of yourselves, when you were called to faith and you disowned."
ان الذين كفروا ينادون لمقت الله اكبر من مقتكم انفسكم اذ تدعون الى الايمن فتكفرون
They will say: "Our Guardian, You made us die twice and made us live twice; we acknowledge our offenses — is there then any way out?"
قالوا ربنا امتنا اثنتين واحييتنا اثنتين فاعترفنا بذنوبنا فهل الى خروج من سبيل
That is because, when God alone was invoked, you disowned, and when something was associated with Him, you believed;
ذلكم بانه اذا دعي الله وحده كفرتم وان يشرك به تومنوا
so judgment belongs to God, the Most High, the Great.
فالحكم لله العلي الكبير
It is He who shows you His signs and sends down provision for you from the sky;
هو الذي يريكم ءايته وينزل لكم من السماء رزقا
but only he who has recourse to Him remembers.
وما يتذكر الا من ينيب
So call upon God, devoting the Law exclusively to Him, however much those who disown detest it.
فادعوا الله مخلصين له الدين ولو كره الكفرون
He is the One who elevates in degrees, possessor of the Edifice;
رفيع الدرجت ذو العرش
He casts the Influx of His command upon whom He wills among His obedient ones, to warn of the Day of Meeting, the day they will come out exposed,
يلقي الروح من امره على من يشاء من عباده لينذر يوم التلاق يوم هم برزون
nothing of them is hidden from God.
لا يخفى على الله منهم شىء
To whom belongs the dominion today?
لمن الملك اليوم
To God, the One, the Subjugator.
لله الوحد القهار
Today every Self will be recompensed for what it earned;
اليوم تجزى كل نفس بما كسبت
no wrong today;
لا ظلم اليوم
God is indeed swift in reckoning.
ان الله سريع الحساب
And warn them of the Day of the Imminent, when the cores will be at the throats, choked with distress,
وانذرهم يوم الءازفة اذ القلوب لدى الحناجر كظمين
the wrongdoers will have neither a warm friend nor an intercessor who is deferred to.
ما للظلمين من حميم ولا شفيع يطاع
He knows the betrayal of the eyes and what the chests hide.
يعلم خاينة الاعين وما تخفي الصدور
God decides with truth,
والله يقضي بالحق
while those they invoke besides Him decide nothing;
والذين يدعون من دونه لا يقضون بشىء
God is indeed the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.
ان الله هو السميع البصير
Have they not traveled through the earth and looked at what was the end of those before them?
اولم يسيروا في الارض فينظروا كيف كان عقبة الذين كانوا من قبلهم
They were superior to them in strength and in traces left on the earth, and God seized them for their offenses;
كانوا هم اشد منهم قوة وءاثارا في الارض فاخذهم الله بذنوبهم
and they had, against God, no one to guard them.
وما كان لهم من الله من واق
That was because their messengers used to bring them clear proofs, but they disowned; so God seized them:
ذلك بانهم كانت تاتيهم رسلهم بالبينت فكفروا فاخذهم الله
He is indeed strong, severe in sanction.
انه قوي شديد العقاب
We certainly sent Moussa with Our signs and a manifest authority, to Fir'awn, Haman, and Qaroon; they said: "A worker of illusion, a great liar."
ولقد ارسلنا موسى بايتنا وسلطن مبين الى فرعون وهمن وقرون فقالوا سحر كذاب
Then, when he brought them the truth from Us, they said: "Kill the sons of those who believed with him, and violate the modesty of their women";
فلما جاءهم بالحق من عندنا قالوا اقتلوا ابناء الذين ءامنوا معه واستحيوا نساءهم
but the scheming of those who disown is only in error.
وما كيد الكفرين الا في ضلل
And Fir'awn said: "Leave me to kill Moussa, and let him call upon his Guardian! I fear he may change your Law and uncover corruption in the land."
وقال فرعون ذروني اقتل موسى وليدع ربه اني اخاف ان يبدل دينكم او ان يظهر في الارض الفساد
And Moussa said: "I indeed take refuge in my Guardian and your Guardian from every proud one who does not believe in the Day of Reckoning."
وقال موسى اني عذت بربي وربكم من كل متكبر لا يومن بيوم الحساب
And a believing man from the clan of Fir'awn, who withheld his faith, said: "Will you kill a man for saying, 'My Guardian is God,' when he has brought you clear proofs from your Guardian? If he is lying, his lie is upon him; and if he is veracious, some of what he promises you will strike you.
وقال رجل مومن من ءال فرعون يكتم ايمنه اتقتلون رجلا ان يقول ربي الله وقد جاءكم بالبينت من ربكم وان يك كذبا فعليه كذبه وان يك صادقا يصبكم بعض الذي يعدكم
God indeed does not guide one who is excessive, a great liar.
ان الله لا يهدي من هو مسرف كذاب
O my people, the dominion is yours today, you are dominant in the land; but who will help us against God's rigor if it comes upon us?"
يقوم لكم الملك اليوم ظهرين في الارض فمن ينصرنا من باس الله ان جاءنا
Fir'awn said: "I show you only what I see, and I guide you only to the way of rectitude."
قال فرعون ما اريكم الا ما ارى وما اهديكم الا سبيل الرشاد
And the one who had believed said: "O my people, I indeed fear for you a day like that of the parties, like the conduct of the people of Nuh, the Aad, the Thamud, and those who came after them;
وقال الذي ءامن يقوم اني اخاف عليكم مثل يوم الاحزاب مثل داب قوم نوح وعاد وثمود والذين من بعدهم
and God wants no wrong for the obedient ones."
وما الله يريد ظلما للعباد
"O my people, I indeed fear for you the Day of Mutual Calling, the day you will turn your backs fleeing, with no safeguard for you against God;
ويقوم اني اخاف عليكم يوم التناد يوم تولون مدبرين ما لكم من الله من عاصم
and whoever God sends astray has no guide.
ومن يضلل الله فما له من هاد
Youssof certainly came to you before with clear proofs, and you did not cease to be in doubt about what he brought you, until, when he perished, you said: 'God will not raise up a messenger after him';
ولقد جاءكم يوسف من قبل بالبينت فما زلتم في شك مما جاءكم به حتى اذا هلك قلتم لن يبعث الله من بعده رسولا
thus does God send astray whoever is excessive, full of doubt —
كذلك يضل الله من هو مسرف مرتاب
those who argue concerning the signs of God without any authority having come to them;
الذين يجدلون في ءايت الله بغير سلطن اتىهم
it is a great abomination with God and with those who believe.
كبر مقتا عند الله وعند الذين ءامنوا
Thus does God stamp the core of every proud tyrant."
كذلك يطبع الله على كل قلب متكبر جبار
And Fir'awn said: "O Haman, build me a belvedere, that I may reach the means, the means of the heavens, and glimpse the deity of Moussa; I surely presume he is lying."
وقال فرعون يهمن ابن لي صرحا لعلي ابلغ الاسبب اسبب السموت فاطلع الى اله موسى واني لاظنه كذبا
Thus was the evil of his deed made appealing to Fir'awn, and he was barred from the way;
وكذلك زين لفرعون سوء عمله وصد عن السبيل
Fir'awn's scheming was nothing but perdition.
وما كيد فرعون الا في تباب
And the one who had believed said: "O my people, follow me; I will guide you to the way of rectitude;
وقال الذي ءامن يقوم اتبعون اهدكم سبيل الرشاد
O my people, this present life is only enjoyment,
يقوم انما هذه الحيوة الدنيا متع
while the last life is indeed the abode of stability.
وان الءاخرة هي دار القرار
Whoever does an evil deed is recompensed only with its equivalent,
من عمل سيية فلا يجزى الا مثلها
and whoever does a sound deed, male or female, while being a believer, those will be admitted into the Garden, provided for therein without account.
ومن عمل صلحا من ذكر او انثى وهو مومن فاوليك يدخلون الجنة يرزقون فيها بغير حساب
O my people, why is it that I call you to salvation while you call me to the Fire?
ويقوم ما لي ادعوكم الى النجوة وتدعونني الى النار
You call me to disown God and to associate with Him what I have no knowledge of, while I call you to the All-Powerful, the Great Forgiver;
تدعونني لاكفر بالله واشرك به ما ليس لي به علم وانا ادعوكم الى العزيز الغفر
inevitably, what you call me to has no call in the present life or in the last life; it is to God that we will be brought back, and the excessive ones are the companions of the Fire.
لا جرم انما تدعونني اليه ليس له دعوة في الدنيا ولا في الءاخرة وان مردنا الى الله وان المسرفين هم اصحب النار
You will soon remember what I say to you;
فستذكرون ما اقول لكم
and I commit my affair to God;
وافوض امري الى الله
God is All-Seeing of the obedient ones."
ان الله بصير بالعباد
So God guarded him from the evils of what they plotted,
فوقىه الله سيات ما مكروا
and the worst punishment enveloped the clan of Fir'awn:
وحاق بال فرعون سوء العذاب
the Fire, to which they are exposed morning and evening,
النار يعرضون عليها غدوا وعشيا
and the day the Hour rises: "Enter, clan of Fir'awn, into the most severe punishment."
ويوم تقوم الساعة ادخلوا ءال فرعون اشد العذاب
And when they dispute with one another in the Fire, the weak will say to those who grew proud: "We were indeed your followers; can you then be of use to us against a portion of the Fire?"
واذ يتحاجون في النار فيقول الضعفوا للذين استكبروا انا كنا لكم تبعا فهل انتم مغنون عنا نصيبا من النار
Those who grew proud will say: "We are indeed all in it; God has already judged between the obedient ones."
قال الذين استكبروا انا كل فيها ان الله قد حكم بين العباد
And those in the Fire will say to the custodians of Jahannam: "Call upon your Guardian to lighten for us, even for one day, the punishment."
وقال الذين في النار لخزنة جهنم ادعوا ربكم يخفف عنا يوما من العذاب
They will say: "Did your messengers not bring you clear proofs?" They will say: "Yes." They will say: "Then call."
قالوا اولم تك تاتيكم رسلكم بالبينت قالوا بلى قالوا فادعوا
But the calling of those who disown is only in error.
وما دعوا الكفرين الا في ضلل
We surely help Our messengers and those who believe, in the present life and on the day the witnesses rise, the day the excuse of the wrongdoers will not benefit them; theirs will be the curse, and theirs the worst of abodes.
انا لننصر رسلنا والذين ءامنوا في الحيوة الدنيا ويوم يقوم الاشهد يوم لا ينفع الظلمين معذرتهم ولهم اللعنة ولهم سوء الدار
We certainly gave Moussa the guidance, and made the Sons of Israel inherit the Scripture, a guidance and a reminder for the possessors of intelligence.
ولقد ءاتينا موسى الهدى واورثنا بني اسرءيل الكتب هدى وذكرى لاولي الالبب
So be patient: God's promise is indeed truth;
فاصبر ان وعد الله حق
and ask forgiveness for your offense, and glorify, with praise, your Guardian, in the evening and the morning.
واستغفر لذنبك وسبح بحمد ربك بالعشي والابكر
Those who argue concerning the signs of God without any authority having come to them have in their chests nothing but pride they will never attain;
ان الذين يجدلون في ءايت الله بغير سلطن اتىهم ان في صدورهم الا كبر ما هم ببلغيه
so seek refuge in God:
فاستعذ بالله
it is indeed He, the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.
انه هو السميع البصير
The creation of the heavens and the earth is surely greater than the creation of mankind,
لخلق السموت والارض اكبر من خلق الناس
but most men do not know.
ولكن اكثر الناس لا يعلمون
The blind and the seeing are not equal, nor are those who have believed and done sound deeds and the evildoer;
وما يستوي الاعمى والبصير والذين ءامنوا وعملوا الصلحت ولا المسيء
little do they remember.
قليلا ما تتذكرون
The Hour is surely coming, no doubt about it,
ان الساعة لءاتية لا ريب فيها
but most men do not believe.
ولكن اكثر الناس لا يومنون
And your Guardian has said: "Call upon Me, I will answer you;
وقال ربكم ادعوني استجب لكم
those who grow too proud to obey Me will indeed soon enter Jahannam, abased."
ان الذين يستكبرون عن عبادتي سيدخلون جهنم داخرين
God is He who made for you the night that you may rest in it, and the day for seeing clearly;
الله الذي جعل لكم اليل لتسكنوا فيه والنهار مبصرا
God surely holds a favor toward mankind,
ان الله لذو فضل على الناس
but most men are not grateful.
ولكن اكثر الناس لا يشكرون
That is God, your Guardian,
ذلكم الله ربكم
Creator of all things;
خلق كل شىء
there is no deity but Him;
لا اله الا هو
how then are you turned away?
فانى توفكون
Thus are turned away those who used to stubbornly reject the signs of God.
كذلك يوفك الذين كانوا بايت الله يجحدون
God is He who made for you the earth a stable place and the sky a structure, who gave you form and made your forms excellent, and provided you with wholesome things;
الله الذي جعل لكم الارض قرارا والسماء بناء وصوركم فاحسن صوركم ورزقكم من الطيبت
that is God, your Guardian;
ذلكم الله ربكم
blessed is God, Guardian of all beings.
فتبارك الله رب العلمين
He is the Living;
هو الحى
there is no deity but Him;
لا اله الا هو
so call upon Him, devoting the Law exclusively to Him;
فادعوه مخلصين له الدين
praise be to God, Guardian of all beings.
الحمد لله رب العلمين
Say: "I have indeed been forbidden to obey those you invoke besides God, since the clear proofs have come to me from my Guardian; and I have been commanded to be true to the Guardian of all beings alone."
قل اني نهيت ان اعبد الذين تدعون من دون الله لما جاءني البينت من ربي وامرت ان اسلم لرب العلمين
It is He who created you from earth, then from a drop, then from a clinging form, then brings you out as a child, then lets you reach your full strength, then become old men —
هو الذي خلقكم من تراب ثم من نطفة ثم من علقة ثم يخرجكم طفلا ثم لتبلغوا اشدكم ثم لتكونوا شيوخا
and some of you are kept faithfully before — so that you may reach an appointed term, and perhaps you will reason.
ومنكم من يتوفى من قبل ولتبلغوا اجلا مسمى ولعلكم تعقلون
It is He who gives life and causes death;
هو الذي يحي ويميت
and when He decrees a matter, He only says to it: "Be",
فاذا قضى امرا فانما يقول له كن
and it is.
فيكون
Have you not seen those who argue concerning the signs of God, how they are turned away?
الم تر الى الذين يجدلون في ءايت الله انى يصرفون
Those who denied the Scripture and that with which We sent Our messengers will soon know, when the shackles are on their necks, along with the chains,
الذين كذبوا بالكتب وبما ارسلنا به رسلنا فسوف يعلمون اذ الاغلل في اعنقهم والسلسل
they will be dragged through boiling water, then set ablaze in the Fire.
يسحبون في الحميم ثم في النار يسجرون
Then it will be said to them: "Where are those you used to associate besides God?"
ثم قيل لهم اين ما كنتم تشركون من دون الله
They will say: "They have strayed away from us; in fact, we were not calling upon anything before."
قالوا ضلوا عنا بل لم نكن ندعوا من قبل شيا
Thus does God send astray those who disown.
كذلك يضل الله الكفرين
That is for having rejoiced on the earth without right, and for having strutted;
ذلكم بما كنتم تفرحون في الارض بغير الحق وبما كنتم تمرحون
enter the gates of Jahannam, to abide therein eternally:
ادخلوا ابوب جهنم خلدين فيها
how wretched is the sojourn of the proud!
فبيس مثوى المتكبرين
So be patient: God's promise is indeed truth;
فاصبر ان وعد الله حق
whether We show you some of what We promise them, or We keep you faithfully, it is to Us they will be returned.
فاما نرينك بعض الذي نعدهم او نتوفينك فالينا يرجعون
We certainly sent messengers before you; some whose account We have related to you, and some whose account We have not related to you;
ولقد ارسلنا رسلا من قبلك منهم من قصصنا عليك ومنهم من لم نقصص عليك
and it is not for any messenger to bring a sign except by God's permission;
وما كان لرسول ان ياتي باية الا باذن الله
and when God's command comes, it is decided in truth, and there the workers of falsehood are the losers.
فاذا جاء امر الله قضي بالحق وخسر هنالك المبطلون
God is He who made for you the cattle, that you may ride some of them and eat others;
الله الذي جعل لكم الانعم لتركبوا منها ومنها تاكلون
and you have in them benefits,
ولكم فيها منفع
and that you may satisfy on them a need in your chests,
ولتبلغوا عليها حاجة في صدوركم
and upon them as well as upon vessels you are carried.
وعليها وعلى الفلك تحملون
And He shows you His signs;
ويريكم ءايته
so which of God's signs do you disavow?
فاى ءايت الله تنكرون
Have they not traveled through the earth and looked at what was the end of those before them?
افلم يسيروا في الارض فينظروا كيف كان عقبة الذين من قبلهم
They were more numerous than them and superior in strength and in traces left on the earth; but what they used to earn availed them nothing.
كانوا اكثر منهم واشد قوة وءاثارا في الارض فما اغنى عنهم ما كانوا يكسبون
Then, when their messengers brought them clear proofs, they rejoiced in the knowledge they possessed;
فلما جاءتهم رسلهم بالبينت فرحوا بما عندهم من العلم
and that which they used to mock enveloped them.
وحاق بهم ما كانوا به يستهزءون
Then, when they saw Our rigor, they said: "We believe in God alone, and we disown what we used to associate with Him."
فلما راوا باسنا قالوا ءامنا بالله وحده وكفرنا بما كنا به مشركين
But their faith did not benefit them once they saw Our rigor —
فلم يك ينفعهم ايمنهم لما راوا باسنا
such is God's norm, already past among His obedient ones;
سنت الله التي قد خلت في عباده
and there those who used to disown were the losers.
وخسر هنالك الكفرون
