A Good Word
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Alif. Lam. Ra.
بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم الرA Scripture that We have sent down to you, so that you may bring the people out of the darknesses into the light, with the permission of their Guardian, to the path of the All-Powerful, the Praiseworthy.
كتب أنزلنه إليك لتخرج ٱلناس من ٱلظلمت إلى ٱلنور بإذن ربهم إلى صرط ٱلعزيز ٱلحميدGod, to whom belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth.
ٱلله ٱلذي له ما في ٱلسموت وما في ٱلأرضAnd woe to those who disown, from a severe punishment —
وويل للكفرين من عذاب شديدthose who prefer the present life to the last life, who turn [others] away from God's path and seek to make it crooked: those are the ones in deep error.
ٱلذين يستحبون ٱلحيوة ٱلدنيا على ٱلءاخرة ويصدون عن سبيل ٱلله ويبغونها عوجا أولئك في ضلل بعيدWe have sent no messenger except in the language of his people, so that he might make [the message] clear to them;
ومآ أرسلنا من رسول إلا بلسان قومه ليبين لهمGod then lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills:
فيضل ٱلله من يشآء ويهدي من يشآءHe is the All-Powerful, the Wise.
وهو ٱلعزيز ٱلحكيمWe have indeed sent Moussa with Our signs: "Bring your people out of the darknesses into the light, and remind them of the days of God."
ولقد أرسلنا موسى بايتنآ أن أخرج قومك من ٱلظلمت إلى ٱلنور وذكرهم بأيىم ٱللهThere are surely in that signs for every very patient, very grateful one.
إن في ذلك لءايت لكل صبار شكورAnd [recall] when Moussa said to his people: "Remember God's blessing upon you, when He saved you from the people of Fir'awn, who inflicted upon you the worst punishment, slaughtering your sons and violating the modesty of your women:
وإذ قال موسى لقومه ٱذكروا نعمة ٱلله عليكم إذ أنجىكم من ءال فرعون يسومونكم سوء ٱلعذاب ويذبحون أبنآءكم ويستحيون نسآءكمand there was in that, from your Guardian, an immense testing."
وفي ذلكم بلآء من ربكم عظيمAnd [recall] when your Guardian made known: "If you are grateful, I shall surely increase you; but if you disown, My punishment is indeed severe."
وإذ تأذن ربكم لئن شكرتم لأزيدنكم ولئن كفرتم إن عذابي لشديدAnd Moussa said: "If you disown, you and all who are on the earth, God is self-sufficient, He is praiseworthy."
وقال موسى إن تكفروا أنتم ومن في ٱلأرض جميعا فإن ٱلله لغني حميدHas there not reached you the information concerning those before you, the people of Nuh, of the Recidivists [Aad] and the Depleters [Thamud], and those who came after them,
ألم يأتكم نبؤا ٱلذين من قبلكم قوم نوح وعاد وثمود وٱلذين من بعدهمwhom only God knows?
لا يعلمهم إلا ٱللهTheir messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they put their hands to their mouths and said: "We disown that with which you have been sent, and we are indeed in a troubling doubt about what you call us to."
جآءتهم رسلهم بٱلبينت فردوا أيديهم في أفوههم وقالوا إنا كفرنا بمآ أرسلتم به وإنا لفي شك مما تدعوننآ إليه مريبTheir messengers said: "Is there doubt about God, the Originator of the heavens and the earth? He calls you so as to forgive you some of your offenses and grant you a delay until an appointed term."
قالت رسلهم أفي ٱلله شك فاطر ٱلسموت وٱلأرض يدعوكم ليغفر لكم من ذنوبكم ويؤخركم إلى أجل مسمىThey said: "You are only humans like us; you want to turn us away from what our ancestors obeyed. So bring us a manifest authority."
قالوا إن أنتم إلا بشر مثلنا تريدون أن تصدونا عما كان يعبد ءابآؤنا فأتونا بسلطن مبينTheir messengers said to them: "We are only humans like you, but God bestows grace upon whom He wills among His obedient ones.
قالت لهم رسلهم إن نحن إلا بشر مثلكم ولكن ٱلله يمن على من يشآء من عبادهIt is not for us to bring you an authority, except with God's permission.
وما كان لنآ أن نأتيكم بسلطن إلا بإذن ٱللهSo let the believers rely upon God."
وعلى ٱلله فليتوكل ٱلمؤمنونAnd why should we not rely upon God, when He has guided us on our paths?
وما لنآ ألا نتوكل على ٱلله وقد هدىنا سبلناWe shall surely be patient in the face of the harm you do us;
ولنصبرن على مآ ءاذيتموناso let those who rely [upon God] rely upon God."
وعلى ٱلله فليتوكل ٱلمتوكلونAnd those who disown said to their messengers: "We shall surely expel you from our land, or you will return to our doctrine!"
وقال ٱلذين كفروا لرسلهم لنخرجنكم من أرضنآ أو لتعودن في ملتناTheir Guardian then revealed to them: "We shall surely annihilate the wrongdoers, and We shall surely establish you on this land after them.
فأوحى إليهم ربهم لنهلكن ٱلظلمين ولنسكننكم ٱلأرض من بعدهمThat is for whoever fears My position, and fears My threat."
ذلك لمن خاف مقامي وخاف وعيدAnd they [all] sought the decisive judgment,
وٱستفتحواand every stubborn tyrant was disappointed; behind him, Jahannam, and he will be given to drink there a purulent water, which he will gulp down without almost being able to swallow it; death will come to him from every side without his dying; and behind that, a harsh punishment.
وخاب كل جبار عنيد من ورآئه جهنم ويسقى من مآء صديد يتجرعه ولا يكاد يسيغه ويأتيه ٱلموت من كل مكان وما هو بميت ومن ورآئه عذاب غليظThe example of those who disown their Guardian:
مثل ٱلذين كفروا بربهمtheir deeds are like ashes that the wind whips violently, on a stormy day: they can hold on to nothing of what they earned.
أعملهم كرماد ٱشتدت به ٱلريح في يوم عاصف لا يقدرون مما كسبوا على شىءThat is the deep error.
ذلك هو ٱلضلل ٱلبعيدHave you not seen that God created the heavens and the earth with truth?
ألم تر أن ٱلله خلق ٱلسموت وٱلأرض بٱلحقIf He willed, He would make you disappear and bring a new creation,
إن يشأ يذهبكم ويأت بخلق جديدand that is not at all difficult for God.
وما ذلك على ٱلله بعزيزAnd they will all appear before God, and the weak will say to those who were arrogant: "We were your followers; can you then be of any use to us, against God's punishment?"
وبرزوا لله جميعا فقال ٱلضعفؤا للذين ٱستكبروا إنا كنا لكم تبعا فهل أنتم مغنون عنا من عذاب ٱلله من شىءThey will say: "Had God guided us, we would certainly have guided you.
قالوا لو هدىنا ٱلله لهدينكمIt is the same for us, whether we are impatient or patient: we have no escape."
سوآء علينآ أجزعنآ أم صبرنا ما لنا من محيصAnd the Diverter will say, when the matter is decided: "God made you a true promise, and I made you a promise, but I failed you; I had no authority over you, except to call you, and you answered me. So do not blame me, but blame yourselves: I cannot answer your cry, nor can you answer mine. I disown that you associated me with God before."
وقال ٱلشيطن لما قضي ٱلأمر إن ٱلله وعدكم وعد ٱلحق ووعدتكم فأخلفتكم وما كان لي عليكم من سلطن إلآ أن دعوتكم فٱستجبتم لي فلا تلوموني ولوموا أنفسكم مآ أنا بمصرخكم ومآ أنتم بمصرخي إني كفرت بمآ أشركتمون من قبلThe wrongdoers will indeed have a painful punishment.
إن ٱلظلمين لهم عذاب أليمAnd those who have believed and done righteous deeds will be admitted into gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide eternally, with the permission of their Guardian.
وأدخل ٱلذين ءامنوا وعملوا ٱلصلحت جنت تجري من تحتها ٱلأنهر خلدين فيها بإذن ربهمTheir greeting, there, will be: "Peace!"
تحيتهم فيها سلمHave you not seen how God multiplies an example? A good word is like a good tree, whose root is firm and whose branches are in the sky, giving its fruit at every moment, with the permission of its Guardian.
ألم تر كيف ضرب ٱلله مثلا كلمة طيبة كشجرة طيبة أصلها ثابت وفرعها في ٱلسمآء تؤتي أكلها كل حين بإذن ربهاAnd God multiplies the examples for the people, perhaps they will remember.
ويضرب ٱلله ٱلأمثال للناس لعلهم يتذكرونAnd the example of a bad word is like a bad tree, uprooted from the surface of the earth, having no stability.
ومثل كلمة خبيثة كشجرة خبيثة ٱجتثت من فوق ٱلأرض ما لها من قرارGod makes firm those who believe by the firm word, in the present life and in the last life,
يثبت ٱلله ٱلذين ءامنوا بٱلقول ٱلثابت في ٱلحيوة ٱلدنيا وفي ٱلءاخرةand God lets the wrongdoers go astray,
ويضل ٱلله ٱلظلمينand God does what He wills.
ويفعل ٱلله ما يشآءHave you not seen those who exchanged God's blessing for disowning, and settled their people in the abode of ruin — Jahannam, wherein they will burn:
ألم تر إلى ٱلذين بدلوا نعمت ٱلله كفرا وأحلوا قومهم دار ٱلبوار جهنم يصلونهاwhat a detestable resting-place!
وبئس ٱلقرارAnd they assigned rivals to God, so as to mislead from His path:
وجعلوا لله أندادا ليضلوا عن سبيلهSay: "Enjoy yourselves, for your destination is the Fire."
قل تمتعوا فإن مصيركم إلى ٱلنارTell My obedient ones who believe to maintain the Contact and to spend from what We have provided them, secretly and openly, before a day comes wherein there will be neither trade nor friendship.
قل لعبادي ٱلذين ءامنوا يقيموا ٱلصلوة وينفقوا مما رزقنهم سرا وعلانية من قبل أن يأتي يوم لا بيع فيه ولا خللGod is the One who created the heavens and the earth, and who sent down from the sky a water, by which He brought forth fruits as provision for you, and He subjected for you the vessel, so that it might sail upon the sea by His command,
ٱلله ٱلذي خلق ٱلسموت وٱلأرض وأنزل من ٱلسمآء مآء فأخرج به من ٱلثمرت رزقا لكم وسخر لكم ٱلفلك لتجري في ٱلبحر بأمرهand He subjected for you the rivers.
وسخر لكم ٱلأنهرAnd He subjected for you the sun and the moon, constant in their course,
وسخر لكم ٱلشمس وٱلقمر دآئبينand He subjected for you the night and the day.
وسخر لكم ٱليل وٱلنهارAnd He gave you of everything you asked of Him;
وءاتىكم من كل ما سألتموهand if you counted God's blessing, you could not enumerate it.
وإن تعدوا نعمت ٱلله لا تحصوهآThe human being is surely quite unjust, a great disowner.
إن ٱلإنسن لظلوم كفارAnd [recall] when Ibrahim said: "My Guardian, make this land a secure place, and keep me and my sons away from obeying idols.
وإذ قال إبرهيم رب ٱجعل هذا ٱلبلد ءامنا وٱجنبني وبني أن نعبد ٱلأصنامMy Guardian, they have led astray a great number of people. Whoever follows me is then of mine, and whoever disobeys me — You are then Most-Forgiving, Benevolent.
رب إنهن أضللن كثيرا من ٱلناس فمن تبعني فإنه مني ومن عصاني فإنك غفور رحيمOur Guardian, I have settled part of my progeny in a valley without cultivation, near Your Forbidden House,
ربنآ إني أسكنت من ذريتي بواد غير ذي زرع عند بيتك ٱلمحرمOur Guardian, so that they may maintain the Contact; so make Consciences, among the people, incline toward them, and provide them with fruits, perhaps they will be grateful.
ربنا ليقيموا ٱلصلوة فٱجعل أفدة من ٱلناس تهوي إليهم وٱرزقهم من ٱلثمرت لعلهم يشكرونOur Guardian, You indeed know what we keep hidden and what we disclose;
ربنآ إنك تعلم ما نخفي وما نعلنand nothing escapes God, neither on earth nor in the sky.
وما يخفى على ٱلله من شىء في ٱلأرض ولا في ٱلسمآءPraise be to God, who has granted me, despite old age, Ismail and Ishaq!
ٱلحمد لله ٱلذي وهب لي على ٱلكبر إسمعيل وإسحقMy Guardian surely hears the call.
إن ربي لسميع ٱلدعآءMy Guardian, make me one who maintains the Contact, and of my progeny too;
رب ٱجعلني مقيم ٱلصلوة ومن ذريتيour Guardian, and accept my call.
ربنا وتقبل دعآءOur Guardian, forgive me, and my two parents, and the believers, on the day the Reckoning stands up."
ربنا ٱغفر لي ولولدى وللمؤمنين يوم يقوم ٱلحسابAnd do not ever think that God is heedless of what the wrongdoers do:
ولا تحسبن ٱلله غفلا عما يعمل ٱلظلمونHe only defers them until a day when the gazes will be fixed, [people] rushing forward, heads raised, their gaze never returning to them, and their Consciences will be void.
إنما يؤخرهم ليوم تشخص فيه ٱلأبصر مهطعين مقنعي رءوسهم لا يرتد إليهم طرفهم وأفدتهم هوآءAnd warn the people of the day the punishment will come to them, and those who were unjust will say: "Our Guardian, grant us a delay until a near term: we will answer Your call and follow the messengers."
وأنذر ٱلناس يوم يأتيهم ٱلعذاب فيقول ٱلذين ظلموا ربنآ أخرنآ إلى أجل قريب نجب دعوتك ونتبع ٱلرسل"Had you not sworn, before, that you would know no decline?
أولم تكونوا أقسمتم من قبل ما لكم من زوالAnd you dwelt in the abodes of those who were unjust to themselves, and it became clear to you how We dealt with them, and We multiplied the examples for you."
وسكنتم في مسكن ٱلذين ظلموا أنفسهم وتبين لكم كيف فعلنا بهم وضربنا لكم ٱلأمثالThey indeed plotted their plot,
وقد مكروا مكرهمbut their plot is [known] with God,
وعند ٱلله مكرهمeven if their plot were of a kind to make the mountains vanish.
وإن كان مكرهم لتزول منه ٱلجبالSo do not ever think that God fails His promise to His messengers:
فلا تحسبن ٱلله مخلف وعده رسلهGod is indeed All-Powerful, possessor of vengeance.
إن ٱلله عزيز ذو ٱنتقامThe Day the earth will be changed into another earth, and the heavens too,
يوم تبدل ٱلأرض غير ٱلأرض وٱلسموتand they will appear before God, the One, the Subjugator.
وبرزوا لله ٱلوحد ٱلقهارAnd you will see the severed, that Day, bound together in chains, their garments of tar, and the fire covering their faces, so that God may recompense every Self according to what it earned:
وترى ٱلمجرمين يومئذ مقرنين في ٱلأصفاد سرابيلهم من قطران وتغشى وجوههم ٱلنار ليجزي ٱلله كل نفس ما كسبتGod is indeed swift in reckoning.
إن ٱلله سريع ٱلحسابThis is a transmission for the people, so that they may be warned by it, know that He is but a single deity, and that the possessors of intelligence may remember.
هذا بلغ للناس ولينذروا به وليعلموا أنما هو إله وحد وليذكر أولوا ٱلألبب
