Ad-Dukhan
You Will Relapse
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Ḥa. Mim.
By the clear Scripture! We sent it down in a blessed night; We are warners.
In it, every wise matter is decided, a command from Us.
We are indeed senders [of Our messengers], a benevolence from your Guardian.
It is indeed He, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
إنه هو ٱلسميع ٱلعليمthe Guardian of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you have certainty.
There is no deity but Him.
He gives life and causes death,
يحي ويميتyour Guardian and the Guardian of your forefathers.
But they play in doubt.
So watch for the day when the sky brings a clear smoke that envelops the people,
فٱرتقب يوم تأتي ٱلسمآء بدخان مبين يغشى ٱلناسthis is a painful punishment.
Our Guardian, remove the punishment from us; we believe."
How would the reminder benefit them, when a clear messenger had come to them, then they turned away from him and said: "One taught [by others], deranged"?
We will indeed remove the punishment for a little while,
إنا كاشفوا ٱلعذاب قليلاbut you will indeed relapse.
The day We strike the greatest Strike,
We will indeed take vengeance.
Before them, We tried the people of Fir'awn, and a noble messenger came to them: "Hand over to me the obedient ones of God; I am for you a trustworthy messenger; and do not exalt yourselves against God — I bring you clear authority; and I take refuge in my Guardian and yours against your banishing me; and if you do not give me credit, then keep away from me."
So he called upon his Guardian: "These are a severed people."
Set out with My obedient ones by night; you will be pursued. And leave the sea parted, still."
They are indeed an army that will be drowned.
How many gardens and springs they left behind, and crops, and noble residences, and comforts in which they took delight.
Thus.
We made another people inherit them.
Neither the sky nor the earth wept over them, and they were granted no reprieve.
We saved the Sons of Israel from the degrading punishment [coming] from Fir'awn.
He was indeed, among the excessive, a haughty one.
We chose them, knowingly, above all beings, and We gave them, among the signs, that which held a clear testing.
These say: "There is nothing but our first death, and we will not be deployed. Bring back our forefathers, if you are truthful."
Are they better, or the people of Tubba'?
And those before them — We annihilated them.
They were indeed a severed people.
We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them in play.
We created them only with truth,
ما خلقنهمآ إلا بٱلحقbut most of them do not know.
The Day of Separation is the appointed time for them all — a day when no guarantor will be of any use to [another] guarantor, and they will not be helped, except those on whom God has benevolence.
He is indeed the All-Powerful, the Benevolent.
Indeed, the tree of Zaqqoum is the food of the hardened transgressor; like molten metal, it boils in the bellies as boiling water boils.
Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Blaze, then pour over his head the punishment of boiling water. Taste!"
You, yes you, the mighty, the noble!"
This is indeed what you used to doubt.
Those who guard themselves will be in a secure place, in gardens and springs, dressed in fine silk and brocade, facing one another.
Thus.
We will unite them with companions of listening and support.
They will call therein for every savoury fruit, secure.
They will not taste death therein,
لا يذوقون فيها ٱلموتexcept the first death.
He will have shielded them from the punishment of the Blaze, as a favor from your Guardian.
That is the immense triumph.
We have only made it easy in your tongue, so that they may remember.
So watch,
فٱرتقبthey too are watching.
